All Artemus Newton wanted after 32 years in the Army was a nice, quiet retirement. But, he is about to cross paths with a real scoundrel.
Artemus Newton is about to face his biggest challenges yet in SCOUNDREL…
Good ol' Bill Hennick, whom Artemus Newton befriended in a nursing home in the year 2012 in CHIEF, is still a young man in 1948 when the prologue takes place in East Berlin. CIA officer Bill Hennick is up against NKVD and SMERSH agents and a battalion of Soviet infantrymen as he tries to escape from the Soviet Zone with secret information. Sixty-five years later, Artemus Newton has taken a peaceful job at his favorite grocery store to supplement his Army pension and is finally beginning to enjoy his retirement as he and his faithful cat, Gus live the good life in a nice apartment in a far northwestern suburb of Chicago. The only stress in Newton’s retired life is that he is still taken with the dynamic young C.I.A. Clandestine Services Officer Alexis Lee and he fears that she is about to become engaged to be married to her boss, Isaac Jordan. But, he does not realize that he and an unlikely ally will soon be embroiled in a battle with old enemies and new adversaries, more deadly than any that he has ever encountered and that the only thing that can save him and the entire country may be some of the same people that Bill Hennick fought against during the height of the Cold War.
