KcLu's review posted at Guilty Pleasures Book Reviews

There are some series that stay with you long after you finish each book. For me Men in Blue is that series. From the first moments in Night is Darkest I have been hooked big time. This book lives up to that love and more. These characters have had my heart for a while now, but seeing them lean on each other to mend their hearts and minds is truly a work of art. Romantic Suspense is not my genre of choice, but there are a small handful of authors that can make me automatically dive into one. Jayne is at the top of that list.

Ellie is one of those female characters that you can just look up to. Her fierce determination to not let the past beat, makes you just route for her all the more. I love the feistiness that Lucas brings out in her, and how it surprises him to see those parts of her personality. The things that were done to her didn’t break her, and being with him makes even her see it.

Lucas is a man that needs to see that he didn’t loose himself, when he lost that chunk of his leg. While his body may have healed, his emotional state is what needs the work now. It is hard for him to get past either of their issues from the past, but I think Ellie is hardheaded enough to make him see that neither of them is truly broken.

I love this story of two would be “broken” people putting each other back together, to become even better than they were before. It is a wonderful journey to go on with them. The way they learn to lean on each other in a time of crisis is beyond wonderful to watch as the reader. I can’t recommend this book and series enough!!! I could continue telling all the greatness that I find wonderful about it, but I don’t want to spoil this greatness for you!! I hope you love it as much as I have.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

After reading Wounded Hearts, the fifth book in Jayne Rylon’s Men in Blue series, I am left with feelings of hope and love. This book touched my heart and soul with its story of two people not only surviving from tragedy beyond description, but through their strength and determination, rising above it to emerge stronger.

We first meet Ellie and Lucas in Mistress’s Master, the third book in the series. Ellie had been captured by the Scientist and forced to participate in experiments of SexOffender, a potent aphrodisiac designer drug with terrifying side effects. The Men in Blue helped rescue her but it was the heroic efforts of Lucas that ensured her escape. However, those efforts cost Lucas his leg ending the life he knew and the future he planned. Despite the long lasting effects, each felt a pull toward the other one. They needed to learn to love themselves in order to love each other.

Watching Ellie and Lucas come to terms with their new lives was beyond inspiring. Ms. Rylon has written an amazing tale of hope and healing that lifted my spirit. She was able to reach deep into their souls and pull out emotions that left me riding a roller coaster of my own feelings. I cried big sloppy tears every time Ellie had another nightmare. I cringed every time Lucas was insecure about his prosthesis. I smiled every time they made progress. And I swooned every time they made love.

Even within the confines of a fictional story, the thoughts and feelings that Ellie and Lucas experienced was authentic and real. It was easy to understand their insecurities. It all made sense which helped me lose myself in their story. I cheered so hard for them to reach their happy ending. If ever two people deserved to be happy, it was Ellie and Lucas.

I have read each book in this series, and with each new addition I fall more in love with Ms. Rylon’s storytelling style. She has created characters so well developed that you truly believe you know these people. The story flows easily and naturally and the descriptions are so vivid that you can easily picture the story in your mind as if it were a movie. Ms. Rylon has obviously done her research about amputees and prostheses because she was able to explain with great detail how losing his leg affected Lucas and the accommodations he had to make. These details helped me feel even more sympathy for Lucas yet never pity. He was a man to admire and respect and it was easy to understand how Ellie could love him.

Ellie. Wow. What she had to overcome and the strength she displayed in her survival showed a spirit that is unparalleled. It was so easy to admire and respect her. Together Ellie and Lucas made complete sense. I loved how Ms. Rylon showed their relationship, warts and all, as they struggled to overcome their fears.

While Wounded Hearts is part of the Men in Blue series, I still believe that you can read it as a standalone. You will still be able to appreciate the journey that these two amazing people have been through. And if you have read the series, then you will appreciate the appearance of the other Men in Blue and their ladies. Fortunately, it appears that Ms. Rylon has more in store for this group. I can’t wait to see what the future has in store for them.

5 Star Review Wounded Hearts by Jayne Rylon
This series is one of my all-time favourites. Every book in this series I have thoroughly loved. Each one seems to get better and better and this is no exception.

Wounded Hearts is book 5 in the Men in Blue series. Although this can be read as a standalone, I would suggest if you haven't read the previous books you do so as there are moments where previous happenings are referred to.

This is the story of Lucas and Ellie, or E as Lucas calls her, two tormented broken souls, both determined to heal each other and become one. They are destined to be together.
Circumstances bring danger to Ellie and it is when Lucas, her knight in shining armour steps in to help her that they finally get a chance to see where their relationship may go.

I love an alpha male, add in vulnerability and sheer determination to overcome and beat the odds and you get Lucas. Ellie has overcome absolute horrors recently and she is as damaged as Lucas. Her strength and determination to move forward no matter the obstacles was inspiring. Lucas is able to help Ellie fight the nightmares that plague her from her horrific past. A true hero in so many ways. He makes me melt.

The chemistry between Lucas and Ellie is scorching. The flames almost jump off the page as you read. It was heart-warming to watch their love grow throughout this book. I can't remember when I cheered so hard when a couple finally realised that what they had was forever.
So many emotions were evoked whilst reading. I laughed, I cried, I was fearful and I am so in love with Lucas and desperately want to be his E.

Another brilliant addition to what is one of my all-time favourite series. Well done Jayne Rylon you have another winner on your hands. I cannot wait for the next book in the series.

I highly recommend this book and wonderfully talented author. Take a chance if you haven't yet read this series, you won't be disappointed.

~~I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads~~

This is one of a series, and I had read a couple of them a while ago, so the background was familiar to me - I would recommend you do the same, as it is quite important to the story that you understand what Ellie was subjected to, and why. The rest of the review assumes that you are aware of the details.

Both Lucas and Ellie have deserved an HEA more than any of the other characters in this series, and that is saying something as there is some other pretty crazy badness addressed in previous books too! They both want each other, but they have demons which hold them back, both from guilt and from issues of poor self image. The set up for resolution is dramatic and gives the reader an adventure worthy of attention, let alone the wonderful sideline of a romance which is finally coming to fruition. The chemistry between the two of them is absolutely phenomenal, even without the SO effects. It is the little touches which really set Ms Rylon's work apart, as a word triggers memories for the reader as well as the protagonists. And the added bonus of knowing who are going to the be the centre of attention allows the book to end on a promise of more to come.

I held off on reading this one for a while, because I knew it was going to be lots of PTSD emotions.

Lucas lost a leg.
Ellie was kidnapped/tortured/raped/abused for over a year.

So having issues is a bit of an understatement.

I really liked it though. It didn't go too dark, nor trivialize their issues. It wasn't an instant HEA either.

I was never overly fond of the Sex Offender plot, which sadly... was most of this series. (it was just too... fantastical.) However, it is really nice to see it wrapping up a bit (should be all wrapped up with the next book, since that will be the final people who dealt with it, and if she continues the Men In Blue series, it'll have to be a new plot arc)

Also it felt a bit like 'how can I merge ALL my other series?!', she mentioned the Hot Rods, and also mentioned the Play Doctor series. Which yes, the Play Doctor series had been previously connected, but Hot Rods hadn't. I don't know if I like the connections or not. *shrugs* guess we'll have to see where it goes.

All in all, it was enjoyable, and I do look forward to the next one now.

Let me start out by saying that fans of the Men in Blue series love this book. All you need to do is check out the reviews around me and you'll find a sea of 4 and 5 star ratings. I say this first because before I started reading, I had no experience with this series. I was intrigued by the cover and sold by the blurb. I had no idea this was the fifth book in an erotic suspense series featuring BDSM and multiple menage stories. Thankfully (for me) those elements were only on the periphery here, but the erotic vibe is still very strong --and while there is a plot-- the sex was a much bigger part of the story than I expected.

I love a tortured hero story, especially a physically wounded one. I loved the idea of Lucas overcoming his adversity to save Ellie from danger. But there are a few things the blurb left out. Like the fact that in Ellie's captivity, she was forced to take a drug called ...wait for it... Sex Offender, which gave her an uncontrollable need to orgasm. One she still struggles with. See, right there, if I knew that one thing, I would have never picked this up.

This is one of those series where everyone's sex lives are just out there. The characters share more personal information with one another than most friends would. From knowing who tops between their two dominant friends, to multiple threesomes, to the array of sex toys the heroine needs. I like romance. I like sexual content. But it needs to be relatable for me on some level. This isn't.

Does the author deliver on the premise of our wounded hero? Yes. (Though I appreciate her clear aims at accuracy, it sometimes went into more detail of amputee life than I needed.) I could have been ok with most of the other stuff that raised my eyebrows, but for one thing. The heroine is a sexual abuse survivor... who is constantly horny and wants to have sex with the hero all the time. I simply couldn't wrap my brain around that. She was forced to have sex constantly with strangers, every which way, while held in captivity and less than a year later, she wants it more than a teenage boy without internet restrictions.

Add to that, I'm not sure what the Men in Blue exactly are. A special police group? Add to that, the suspension of disbelief required to buy into the plot, and I can say unresoundingly that this book was not for me.

I'll leave you with this quote from the book:

"Is it possible that when he comes in me, either in my mouth or my pussy, the Sex Offender effects are diminished?"

Shari couldn't help herself. "He's got magic jizz?"

"Oh. My. God." Ellie put her face in her palms. "I knew that was crazy, right?"

"Actually, no it's not."

YES IT IS. (*headdesk*) But his spunk cures her. Because they are in love. I just can't....

This book takes the long way to heaven. Lucas lost his job and his leg saving Ellie from a living nightmare a year ago. He has pushed away Ellie and his friends. He isn’t dealing with the changes in his life very well. Ellie too has had her share of problems coming back from the abuse she has suffered and the only man she wants won’t talk to her. Now there is a new threat to Ellie and Lucas is the only one who can keep her safe forcing them to work through their issues. Watching these two incredibly strong individuals help each other return to life is an amazing journey. This book will make you laugh, cry, scream and sigh. This is a fabulous addition to a terrific series. You can read this standalone but it will be much more enjoyable if you’ve read the rest of the series.

I loved the Men in Blue series when I read it a few years ago, and I was delighted to see that Jayne was going to continue on with the series by giving us a new book. I've wanted to know what happened with Lucas, so I was pretty excited to get my hands on Wounded Hearts. Now if you are new to this series, you really need to read it prior to reading Wounded Hearts or you might be a tad bit confused. There are a lot of crossover characters and issues from the previous books. I think this confusion could have been cleared up had there been a prologue to lead into the story. It would have also helped those of us who haven't read the books in awhile given how long it has been between releases, but that's just my opinion. So my thoughts on Wounded Hearts overall. Well I did enjoy reading this story, but...I just didn't love it as much as I had anticipated.

Instantly I could tell that Jayne was channeling her cover model, Alex Minsky, with her character for Lucas even down to his Don't Laugh tattoo. I do love Alex and his positive outlook on life, so I was happy to have a good visual for Lucas. He was definitely a character you could admire, and although I liked that we get a deeper glimpse into the life of an amputee, I also think some of the focus on that detracted away from the bigger emotional issues he was dealing with that were more important to me.

He and Ellie both are fighting their own personal battles they need to overcome, and I loved it when they realized they were better off fighting together. I do think things progressed a bit too quickly given their full year apart, but life is very far from perfect for them and they handled it well with effective communication that I found quite funny most of the time. They also had an undeniable amount of sexual chemistry going on that was incredibly hot.

Now I would have liked to see more in the way of suspense given that the bad guy was pretty easy to figure out, but it was still good. I think the biggest issue that brought the book down for me had to do with Ellie. I loved that she was a fighter, so don't get me wrong here because she survived something I couldn't even imagine. It was the repercussions of it that I found to be just a bit far fetched. Mostly it was the fact that his spunk seemed to settle her down because it was from someone she "loved." That made me roll my eyes, and it's never a good sign.

So even though I didn't love this book, you can see that I did enjoy quite a bit of it. But knowing that Lucas was framed after Alex just made this story all the better in my opinion. *winks* We get a pretty good glimpse as to where the next book is going to go, so I'm excited that we might have another mmf menage to read in the future from this group with Ellie's brother, Ben, and Shari. I just hope that it doesn't have the same rushed together feeling that this book had.

Sweet but with a definite edge, this book was near perfection!

It is a definite balance to tell a story about ones so damaged by all that was done to them and not get melancholy. This book definitely carries that off, yet still conveys the pain that still lingers with our characters

Ellie and Lucas were tied together when she was rescued from a slave ring that used chemicals to make sex slaves. Somehow Ellie didn't become addicted or die, but she most definitely was used and abused. The chemical has now also altered her chemically sexually. As one of the scientists who developed the drug, unknowing what it's final purpose was, she was trapped before she knew what was going on

Her brother never gave up on her, and that ended up with Lucas saving her from the dungeon during the rescue when everything fell apart. Lucas irreparably damaged his leg in the rescue, and eventually it was amputated. He feels like less of a man, Ellie feels responsible. Neither can deny the attraction between them, but Lucas handles this by cutting himself off from Ellie as all times. She thinks it is because of all the things she did sexually while on the drug and because she is the reason he lost his leg

Messed up stuff right? Yet, the authour doesn't get us caught in the weeds, and when something comes up, it is explained an resolved. None of the back and forth and rehashing of the same things. It also doesn't get bogged down so the story moves along at a good pace

And can we just admire and gush over the cover??? Holy moly, that is one of the most perfect covers I have ever seen, on any book, ever - completely on story, on point and unbelievably perfect!

Needless to say, I loved Ellie and Lucas' story, and while there is a wide cast of characters in supporting roles, the entire story is how these two figure out their lives, their relationship and move forward with their imperfect being!

With that being said, I only have one issue with this book....I can't decide if this is my favorite of Jayne Rylon's series or if Hotrods is still my favorite.

In order to fully understand this newest book, you need to read the previous Men in Blue books. It is a continuation of previous cases. It is hard to understand where Ellie has been in the past without the previous books. She escaped from a scientist that created a very powerful date rape drug and continually used it on her as a test subject. Lucas was there during her escape and it cost him part of his right leg.

Lucas has pretty much kept Ellie out of his life for the few last months because of his own self image. He has not come to terms with the loss of his career, the loss of his leg or the feelings that he has for Ellie. He thinks that no one deserves to be with him because he lost part of his leg.

Ellie just wants to get closer to Lucas, try to get her life back and deal with the side effects the drug has on her body. She has issues going out in public and trusting those around her, except Lucas.

A girl's outing brings Ellie in danger again and Lucas is there to help her. There are some surprises in here for sure. Just wait. My mouth dropped when I read them. Sorry no spoilers here. But Lucas and Ellie do come to terms with their wounded hearts.

This is a true must read, especially if you like suspense and erotica all in one. I am looking forward to Ryan's book. I hope it is next.

This has seriously became my favorite book in the MIB series I loved it! If you've read previous books (which I hope you have!) you'll know that Lucas lost part of his leg helping Ellie escape Moreselli's dungeon this is their story.

Lucas has pushed Ellie away because he doesn't like the way his new body is after his amputation but Ellie hasn't stopped having feelings for him. After a girls night out ends in excitement but also fear when Ellie is target by some bad guys, Lucas comes to the rescue to help her and in doing so begins to open up to her.

I love that Lucas is not your conventional Hero because he has a disability, the fact that I have a disability (although different from Lucas) makes this story really cool because authors don't really write stories about blind people or people in wheelchairs or amputees. I commend Jayne for taking a risk and writing a character that isn't perfect but is capable even with his handicap. I feel like more stories should be written about people who have to go through tremendous effort just to go through a normal day let alone be a secret military saving people and running through rough terrain and shooting bad guys.

This book is one of the best in the MIB series, there is hot sex, there is emotional connection, bad guys, actions, fights everything you could want in a book. We get to see all the past characters from the previous books and how they are doing. If you loved the previous books you will love this book!

Jayne Rylon has written a beautiful love story for Lucas and Ellie in Wounded Hearts, her latest in the Men in Blue series. These two have survived so much pain but together, they can love and live again. Lucas would do anything to protect Ellie, even trying to distance himself as he is having a difficult time handling his disability; he's afraid of her reaction to his missing limb. I loved how Ellie proved him wrong and that she was able to help him feel more comfortable in his own skin. In turn, Lucas was so tender and loving with Ellie as he helped her heal from the horrific acts she had to endure that it just melted my heart. The author did a terrific job portraying all the different emotions these characters experience and I found myself drawn more and more into their story. Their strength, courage and determination in overcoming life's obstacles was heartwarming to see and you couldn't help but root for them to persevere. These two had incredible chemistry and the sex scorched the pages. Another thing I really enjoyed about this story and series is the action and suspenseful elements which I'm a huge fan of and Lucas sure proved that he's a tough hero no matter what and no one can stop him from saving his woman. I also loved seeing the rest of the gang in action again which put a huge smile on my face. This book is a terrific addition to this series and I cannot wait to read more.

Lucas and Ellie have a past. Lucas once saved Ellie from a madman who held her prisoner and used her for testing his drug that turns a person into a lust crazed sex addict. Since the rescue, Lucas has distanced himself from Ellie. Since Ellie gained her freedom, she only has eyes for Lucas. Unfortunately Lucas won’t even return her telephone calls.

Several months after her ordeal, Ellie’s friends convince her to go out to the casino for a night of fun. Ellie gets lucky and hits a major jackpot. After all of the excitement, they decide to call it a night and take Ellie home. Unfortunately someone is waiting for her. The only thing that saves her is the fact that Lucas was called and asked to go and keep an eye on her until morning since she was carrying her winnings in cash. Did a random person just follower her home after she won or is it someone from her past with other motives?

Follow the twists and turns of this story and find out who is after Ellie and why. Is it random or is there another motive? Will Lucas stay and help her or will he distance himself again and let someone else cover Ellie. Will Lucas and Ellie end up together or is there is too much history between them that will keep them apart.

Jayne Rylon has once again written a great story that has intrigue, mystery, suspense, and hot sex that will keep you turning the pages until the end. I highly recommend not only this story but the series. You will not be disappointed.

This is such an amazing love story, but it was not an easy road for Ellie and Lucas to get there.

Lucas lost part of his leg saving Ellie from basically a mad scientist, because of his loss, he has pulled away from his friends and most of all Ellie. Even though he feels a strong attraction to her, he doesn’t think he can be man enough for her now.

Ellie was used by the mad scientist in a very deplorable way, but she fought back, she never let them take her soul, they may take her body but not the fundamental part that is all Ellie.

When Ellie is in danger, Lucas comes to the rescue. And as they spend time together they both realize that they each survived and are still alive, love is just a touch away if they only let down their guard and rise above their insecurities.

I loved the strength of each of these characters, you could feel their struggles, whether it was Ellie’s nightmares or Lucas’s phantom pain. I wanted to reach out and hug them and tell them it was going to be ok, like they were both old friends. I couldn’t help but admire them as they overcome their doubts as they open their hearts and express their wants and needs and fears.

This was another great addition to an awesome series and I cannot wait to read more about these Men in Blue.

Wounded Hearts is another fantastic addition to the Men in Blue series. You can read it as a standalone since Jayne does such a great job recapping the previous story lines but I would recommend reading the entire series just because you grow to love each character as the series progresses.

So Ellie and Lucas! These two have had a very rough year but have tried in their own ways to survive, separately. Turns out, they are better together. Ellie said it best “they really were a hot mess. One she was beginning to appreciate… perfectly so.” The back and forth between all the characters flows very easily. I found myself laughing out loud, steaming up my glasses, tearing up and having an overall better understanding of those that have lost limbs (although, I know I will never be an expert). This was a very touching story and the mystery/thriller took a back seat for me. I really wanted to learn more about Lucas and Ellie’s development as a couple and Jayne delivered as she always does. I cannot wait for the next book in the series!!

Love this series

As I read the Lucas and Ellie characters in the previous book, I was under the impression that Lucas was a lot older but in fact he is not. I had to get past the obstacle while reading.
This was another smash hit from Ms Rylon. I love this series and each character she writes about. You really get to know them and their outrageous adventures.
Lucas was injured when they went in to save Ellie. Although he has never blamed her for his loss of his leg, Ellie has always feared that is why he has been pushing her away ever since that day.
He is actually pushing her away because he believes he is not man enough for her and that she deserves someone better. She went through a terrible ordeal with an experimental drug the drastically increases your sex drive. He was raped, abused and forced to do horrible things until the Men in Blue got her out.
It takes time and a new threat on her life to make both of them spill their feeling to each other and come together.
Great book! Can't wait for the next one!

Lucas, with his prosthetic leg and his body hang ups has been avoiding Ellie, the woman he rescued from captivity, for a year. During that time, Ellie has continually reached out to the man that saved her life, despite her ongoing battle with detoxing from the drug her criminal captors continually dosed her with and overcoming the PTSD she developed after her rescue. When Ellie is made an unknowing mule in a casino heist scheme by a criminal organization, Lucas is activated by the Men In Blue to keep her safe. Their passion burns hot and they both have to work to overcome the obstacles in their heads and the external criminal forces trying to tear them apart. This story is passionate, compassionate and so well-written that I didn't want to put it down! I highly recommend this story and this entire series!

Ellie and Lucas think they are not worthy of each other, but their friends think they are perfect for each other. Lucas thinks Ellie can't love him because he lost part of his leg. Ellie thinks Lucas hates her because she is the reason he lost his leg. Ellie is in danger and Lucas is the only one who can keep her safe. Will they be able to clear the air between them since Lucas won't let her out of his sight. Get ready for a adrenaline rush that will leave you wanting more.

If you decide you want to read this book, but have not read the other books in the Men In Blue series. I suggest you start with the first book in the series Night Is Darkest. You will not be disappointed.

This book has been in my TBR pile for almost a full year, but now that book 6 in the series is due out I needed to catch up on the Men in Blue. This book originally caught my attention not only because I have read the first four books in the series, but because the cover model, Alex Minsky, is a person I admire. I enjoyed how the author included much about him (physically) in the story, down to the "Don't Laugh" tattoo. Ellie was a scientist caught up in the Sex Offender drug issue and lost so much of herself and her life because of it. Lucas saved her, but lost much of his life also. This story was such a great HEA and it had me going through many emotions from anger, to laughter to sadness. Great Read!

This series just keeps getting better and better! I love the unique storyline, well developed characters that you'll love and are easy to relate to, lots of action, suspense, angst, violence, amazing friends that you wish you had, smokin' hot sex that will leave you breathless, and overall just a fantastic read! If you are new to this series, I strongly suggest that you start at the beginning. Yes, each are stand alone books, but you'll get not only amazing stories in each book but also a better understanding of the Men In Blue by reading them all. I hope you love them as much as I have!
I definitely recommend this book and series to everyone! (Over 18, of course!)

The story gave us a look at two wounded people who want each other but can't get past their own issues. with a push from family, friends and the bad guys they discover a deep connection and love.
Ellie has her much deserved emotional trauma and guilt about being the reason for Lucas being an amputee. Lucas is learning to be an amputee and how he is still the same man.
It is a good book considering it is the first one of this series I have read. I highly recommend that you start with the first book to better understand this one.

I was so excited to read this next installment in the Men in Blue series; it's been a while, and I was so thrilled that it lived up to my expectations! Loved it so much!

Heavy on emotions; a story of perseverance and the power of love; just enough action with one of the most bad-ass climax scenes I've read

Seriously, the more I think about it, the more I love it. I almost want to read it all over again.

ARC...
Lucas and Ellie, two broken souls, trying to reclaim their lives, overcome traumatic past, and letting go to find out that that two halves makes one perfect whole. They are perfect together. The trust, the love, their willingness to be opened and honest with each other was perfection. I love this beautiful story, I love this Amazing series!!!!

I loved this book and think it was my favorite of the series. Seeing Ellie and Lucas overcome all of the horrible stuff that happened to them and learn to love each other was incredible

Very good book!!! The past that they had and the way that they got to heal each other was mesmerising!! The writing is really good... I'm more of a mmf or a fantasy kind of reader but it was a book that sucked me in and didn't let me get up for air until it was through with me!! I will definitely will be reading more of her books!

***WARNING: PLEASE DO NOT READ THIS BOOK IF YOU HAVE ANY SENSITIVITY TO RAPE***

Man, what a bizarre book. This leapt from deeply disturbing (possibly too much so) to completely ridiculous.

I have not read any of the other books in this series. I'm glad, because it sounds like the events from earlier books were somehow even more disturbing than just hearing about them and seeing them in flashbacks in this book.
