Really Like the series but this book is my least favorite and not because of how dark it was.

This series was really good but I’m trying to process why I didn’t like this book as much as I liked the previous ones in this series.

I went in with extremely high expectations that this book didn’t really meet. With her other series, I think I expected them to not be perfect, to irk me, and to follow a pattern that she established so I’m not really let down or disappointed. With this series it started off so different and good and just kept getting greater, that I stopped expecting the character and plot flaws that always seem to piss me off.

I think both MCs are taken too far past redeemable without significant on-page character growth. Erica starts off mid and devolves but there are little glimmers that make you think maybe somewhere along the line she is learning and will grow from her bad decisions. It sucks cause not only does she not learn, she turns into a willing punching bag. I wanted her to grow soooo bad but she didn’t. This flaw falls in line with ADG making her blk FMC’s these doormats for the Yt MMC that I thought wasn’t going to be in this series based on how Erica started out in the beginning. That was disappointing to me.

King starts off really good. It was sad but interesting to see his slow decline and learn about his tragic beginning but there was a lesson to be learned and possible growth from his redemption arc for his character too. I was waiting for it. Instead he also devolve into prolly one of her worst MMCs. He was way too mean to the point of being cruel and brutal. I really wanted to like King thru to the end especially since he was such a complex character but the personality flip was too jarring and off putting.

Their de-evolution made me not want and HEA for this story. They were better before they met each other and I was kind of hoping that was the sacrifice, realizing they were not good together. When you look at the series as a whole you realize they never worked. There are very few good moments between them. There are just a lot of moments that we as the reader hope is where their love story start to blossom but as you keep reading those glimpses never grow into anything else.

This book does wrap up a lot of the plot holes but not really in a fulfilling way. There was a lot going on. I didn’t have any problem with the dark or pitch black content as much as I didn’t like how the story was over loaded with plot points. There was waaaaay too much going on in this book. Maybe something should have been left out so other plot points could have been better fleshed out. Idk.

The spicy scenes are surprisingly uncomfortable. One thing I think ADG does well in her other different series is the spice. She is really good about building up the anticipation, the tension, forbidden factor, and she is also good about talking the readers thru the MCs finally snapping and ravaging each other. The spice in this book read more like assault and battery and not in a kinky sexy way more of like a class 1 felony kind of way. King in spice scenes was the equivalent of Sid in Toy Story to toys or insects. It got to a point where I didn’t want the MCs to have sex anymore cause he was that brutal. The MC is Work Wife was kinky brutal. King is just Brutal brutal.

Overall I really liked the series, just really didn’t like this book. I feel like it went in a weird direction. At first I wanted more now I’m ok with the series ending. I still really like the author and most definitely will read whatever comes next.

This Just Felt....Off

I did not like this book. It felt disjointed, rushed, like a new story out of nowhere. I know the Arthur gave clues im past books. This is the first time I am disappointed in an ADG ending.

Mostly, I just never liked the FMC at all. There were very dark themes and I just didn'r care because of the FMC. I just thought....its fiction.

I think the biggest thing that felt off was the overall pacing. It was slow until the last book. I dunno. At least we got closure.

Never Disappoints

I almost rage quit the series. ADG writes in a way that made me very invested in her characters. I am so glad I pushed through. What an amazing story and an interesting view of love. Thank you for this series and may your writing process continue to be Blessed.

This entire series has my whole soul. The slow burn and character/world building, were top notch. It made me love King and Erica even more. The way ADG mirrored their actions throughout the series, was brilliant. They’re both 2 parts of one soul. The bond was so strong that it overwhelmed them at times.

There were heartbreaking parts where I was sobbing. But there was also fun times (Fish/Fishes/Feesh 🥹😂) and so much love. Even when they were in denial, it was so clear that these two were destined. Between storms and mysterious ghost cats, the universe kept bringing them together. 💫

The second part of this book was brutal. King received some massive karma for his actions towards Erica, in Spawn and the beginning of Sacrifice. He got to see the woman that he just realized he was in love with the whole time, succumbing to the same drug that almost made him kill her (and himself) in Spawn.

Him having to see and experience Erica under the influence of paradise,- watching Bo have sex with a high Erica and then her telling Bo that she loves him, and then watching Erica overdose… that karma was BRILLIANT. And extremely rough to read. Bc now King fully sees and feels the pain he put Erica through.

There was a point in this story where I could barely read the words bc I was crying so hard. But despite it all, these two are soulmates.

In Stigma, King says: “We’re going to get through this together, but we both have to face the fire.” They faced that fire and it almost consumed them. But their unconditional love for each other, got them through that.

This series will stay on my mind, probably for the rest of my life. I know that I’ll read it over and over again. And I can’t wait to see what new stories brings to the LHS universe. Hopefully we’ll get a glimpse of King and Erica 🤞🏾🤍💫🥁🌪️🪽🐈‍⬛⛈️☔️✨.

This book was a bit of a let down. Seemed very rushed with a LOT thrown in the mix. One thing that really pissed me off was if King KNEW that taking the paradise drug wouldn't effect him the same way that it did Erica, why didn't he take it? He could have done that and maybe prevented what happened to her, or am I trippin? Is this really a love bond between the two of them? Also, given the immense gravity of the events they went through, where was the therapy? That's a big problem that doesn't really get addressed at all, and it really could have. Then the love would actually be earned rather than given based on their proximity to each other.

a review of the whole series

So the first book is SLLLLOOOOWWW you’re going to have to force yourself to finish. It picks up after that. The FMC spent 85% of the series mismanaging her coochie. Her Thot behavior is a major catalyst in everyone’s downfall. I don’t know what kinda church this is but EVERYONE is in EVERYONES business. The main characters get their Happy Ending but there is countless side quest. Love this authors books but this is my least favorite of all her series.

I loved reading this whole series and I expected Book 6 to be what it was but I don’t not expect book 7 to have yet another drawn out dark storyline. I thought it would be more about them coming back to each other after his recovery. The Bo chapters drew on way too long for me and i’m still not sure what the paranormal part at the end was about with Kings cat and then the black cat from childhood. Also, what was with the reference to her dad’s age and looks constantly? I didn’t understand what ADG was trying to infer…

Epic

What a series this has been! This is some of the author's best writing. I loved the finale apart from the Bo parts. Erica and King are two of the best characters I have read and their relationship is beautiful. Brilliant read!

Redemption is a beautiful thing

I thoroughly enjoyed this series. It was raw, relatable and realistic. Everything wrapped up nicely and provided closure for in the end.
