Ryan Lindqvist was supposed to lead the team. Not fall for his best friend's sister.

After years as one of the NHL's most dependable players, he's drafted to the Phoenix Sidewinders—an expansion team in a city that wants hockey back . . . but isn't convinced it won't get burned again. Now he's wearing the C, leading a locker room half full of strangers, and carrying the weight of a second chance no one believes will last.

The one thing keeping him motivated? Griffin Callahan. Best friend. Teammate. Goalie. The only guy who actually wanted to be here. Which is exactly why Ryan should stay far away from Griffin's little sister.

Maren Callahan is a physical therapist, a Scottsdale native, and completely off-limits. She's sharp, grounded, and sees through Ryan's captain façade like it's nothing. Worse, she's everywhere—and every moment with her chips away at the control he's built his life on.

It starts small. A look. A touch. Something neither of them can ignore. Ryan knows what this could cost him—his best friend, his team, the fragile trust of a city already waiting for them to fail. Maren knows what it feels like to be someone's secret—and she won't do it again.

But the closer they get, the harder it is to walk away. And when the truth comes out, Ryan won't just lose Griffin. He might lose everything.

Contains mature themes.

I swear hockey players see the words "best friend's little sister" and immediately lose every ounce of common sense they've ever possessed.

Ryan, babe. You are the CAPTAIN. You have an expansion team to lead, a whole city waiting to see if this hockey thing is going to implode, and your best friend is the goalie.

So naturally you look at his little sister and think, "Yes. This seems like an excellent idea."

Sir.

Ryan wasn't even planning on being captain of the Phoenix Sidewinders, but suddenly he's wearing the C and trying to hold together a brand-new team full of strangers while carrying approximately seventeen tonnes of responsibility on his shoulders.

The one person he can rely on is Griffin, his best friend and teammate.

Which makes developing feelings for Griffin's sister Maren slightly inconvenient.

And by slightly, I mean VERY.

Maren is a physical therapist, knows exactly what she wants, and has no intention of being anybody's dirty little secret.

THANK YOU, MAREN. Meanwhile Ryan is desperately trying to keep everything under control while every interaction with her chips away at that control a little more.

Ryan: "This is a terrible idea."
Also, Ryan: "But what if I did it anyway?"

Ahhh. Romance.

I liked Ryan and Maren together. There was chemistry, banter, tension, and I really liked that Maren had boundaries and wasn't prepared to quietly accept whatever Ryan decided was safest for everyone else. She's been someone's secret before and she is NOT doing that again.

As she should.

The hockey side was fun too. I liked the expansion-team setup and Ryan having to figure out how to lead people who haven't really become a team yet. There was pressure coming from every direction, and I enjoyed watching him slowly settle into the captain role while simultaneously making his personal life considerably more complicated than necessary.

Because apparently one crisis at a time is for amateurs.

Where this sat around 3 to 3.5 stars for me was mostly the length and pacing. At 464 pages, there were stretches where I felt like we were taking the scenic route to places I already knew we were going. I liked Ryan. I liked Maren. I wanted them together.

My Kindle and I were just occasionally sitting there going, "Yes. We understand. Can we perhaps proceed?"

And with the whole best-friend's-little-sister situation, you KNOW the truth is eventually going to come marching through the door wearing steel-capped boots. So, there was definitely some waiting for the inevitable explosion.

Griffin finding out?

Me: "Well. This should go beautifully."

Spoiler: nobody has ever said that sentence before something went beautifully.

Overall, I had a good time with Offside. Ryan and Maren were easy to root for, I enjoyed the hockey and team dynamics, and there was enough romance, chemistry and potential disaster to keep me happily reading.

Was I FERALLY clutching my Kindle and threatening anyone who interrupted me?
No.

Was I invested enough to keep turning pages and wondering exactly how spectacularly this whole "I'm secretly involved with my best friend's sister" plan was going to blow up?
Absolutely.

Fun hockey romance, stubborn heroine, stressed captain, protective brother and one relationship that came with a giant flashing THIS WILL DEFINITELY CAUSE PROBLEMS LATER sign.

Ryan saw the sign.
Ryan ignored the sign.

Honestly, that's romance.

Spice level: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
Lots of spicy scenes but tastefully done

Totally has me jumping on the hockey romance bandwagon!! This was exactly the book I needed after finishing off-campus.

Both MCs are so incredibly loveable, you are cheering them on since the prequel. Ryan is the calm, cool, collected Captain of a new hockey team, and Maren is the fiery but sweet new Director of Sports Medicine for the same team, who also happens to be his best friend’s sister. Of course, it was trouble from the very beginning, but the yearning, stolen glances, and every hidden moment were top notch. I swear I spent half my time squealing in delight every time they moved things along.

Teammates were amazing and so was her bff Paige and her parents. Fav teammate besides Ryan? Obviously, Cole is hilarious. Great pacing, written well, mini 3rd act breakup, and perfect epilogue. AND another blonde MMC that is hitting all the green flags.

Totally recommend if you’re into dual POV, quiet but decisive MMC, under appreciated superstar FMC, hockey & workplace romances, second chances, found family, and best friend’s sister trope.

Note: Thank you to the author for sharing this eARC with me.

Absolutely love this! With hockey season beginning I wanted a cute hockey romance. This one delivered on all accounts. I loved Ryan and his commitment to the game and the potential of the new franchise. Maren is also a driven woman who wants to create the right sports therapy/medicine program for this new team. I loved seeing the new romance grow throughout the book. That it is his best friend's sister was the added conflict but also the sweetest win for him. I loved when Ryan went home or talked with his mom and dad. their little sayings they have were just the sweetest. If you are looking for a best friend's sister hockey romance, this is so for you! I will be continuing with this series!

After reading the prequel, I was so excited to start this book!

The story picks up about nine years after In the Crease ends. Ryan, Maren, and Griffin are all back in the same city for the first time. Ryan is now the captain of the Phoenix Sidewinders expansion team, Griffin is the new goalie, and Maren is the Director of Sports Medicine.

I really love Maren and Ryan. They’re steady, loyal, and focused, and that spark between them never really went away. Seeing them try to fight it for the sake of Griffin, the hockey bro code, and Maren’s job made for such a good slow burn. When they finally give in, their secret relationship adds a whole new layer of tension.

Things really start to speed up around 70% when the risk of being found out grows. The tension and anticipation were fantastic! Knowing everything was about to unravel but not when, kept me flipping pages and I loved it!

I did struggle at times throughout the book. The timeline got a little fuzzy toward the end, and there was quite a bit of repetition in phrasing and character descriptions. It sometimes pulled me out of the story and made me wish the reader was trusted a bit more.

Even with that, I loved the characters and the world Amy Briggs built. The setup was strong, the ending was so sweet, and I’m curious to see how Eli’s story unfolds. I’d love to stay invested in this team if the next book’s style feels a little more streamlined and varied.

Amy Briggs, thank you so much for this ARC!

I want to say that overall I did enjoy this and I loved certain parts of this book. The characters were amazing, there wasn't one I didn't love. The whole slow burn build up of tension from the prequel was top tier and the ending was fantastic. That said, I did find it very frustrating at times, it was very repetitive with the description of events and I found the time line seemed to jump about making it feel like time had passed one sentence but then it turns out it actually hadn't, leaving me a bit confused and not really knowing if it was an oversight. I did still love it and will probably go on to read the next books in the series once they're published.

ARC Review

Offside is a new hockey romance series and I am so excited for all of it! I absolutely love that this series is based out of Arizona and bringing a NHL team back to the state. If only we could get that to happen in real life.
We met Ryan and Maren in the prequel In the Crease. This is a very important book to read because it gives the back story of how Maren goes to visit her brother Griffin at his last year of college and meets his best friend Ryan. Their story is so cute with how they met but they both held the line because it just wasn’t the right time. Ryan is her brother’s best friend. He’s about to leave to be in the NHL and Maren is only 18 with a lot of life to still live and learn from.
Flash forward years later to when Maren and Ryan are both headed to the Phoenix Sidewinders new team. Ryan is the captain and Maren is the new physical therapist. They are still drawn to each other but still have that line drawn of now working for the same team and Griffin still the brother between them. That pull between them is impossible to ignore and Ryan is ready to risk it all.
I absolutely fell in love with Ryan and Maren. The tension between them is everything. And when they finally collide, it’s so worth it! Not only do you get an amazing story between them but you get a whole team of side characters that you just can’t help falling in love with. The banter is so good. The found family of a new team coming together was my favorite. This is going to be such an amazing series and I can’t wait to read all about it.

Offside is the first instalment in the new Phoenix Sidewinders Hockey series by Amy Briggs. This proved to be a fast-paced slap-shot of a read where sports drama meets a forbidden romance. Ms. Briggs scores big with fully-realised, interesting characters, tense game-day stakes, and heartfelt moments that kept me cheering right till the final whistle. But what happens when secrets are revealed? What unfolds makes for a fun story.

Format: 📖 ARC from the author

For the plot:
This was a really cute, delightful, and sweet hockey romance. Ryan, the Swedish, sweet-talking man you are 🥵
Ryan and Maren met nine years ago. He is her brother's (Griffin) best friend. It was instant chemistry and attraction, but due to the brother's best friend situation, and because she is a few years younger and they were in college, they didn't pursue anything. This moment left a mark on both of them.

Were they celibate during those nine years? No, and I appreciated that it was a tale of Maren being the one pining while Ryan slept with everyone. It doesn't sound like he was a super playboy, but I got the impression he had his moments, but that fizzled out a long time ago. He wanted more.
Maren was in a relationship with a dirtbag who didn't deserve her, and she was thankfully out of it. However, he did a number on her self-esteem.

Nine years later, Maren is the director of sports medicine for the Phoenix Sidewinders Hockey Team. Ryan has been recruited as captain, and Griffin has also been recruited. She wasn't sure if Ryan remembered her, or maybe she was trying not to seem like their "moment" nine years ago left a mark, but when she sees him again, she introduces herself and shakes his hand 😅

They couldn't deny the chemistry and attraction. Eventually, after trying to keep each other at arm's length, they couldn't. They gave in to their feelings. Maren pushed to keep the relationship quiet, and initially I was annoyed, but I understood when she explained why: Being a woman in the field is already tough enough, but sleeping with the captain would only make it harder for her. Thus began their secret relationship. They had such sweet, unguarded moments that were really precious to read.
Of course, Griffin finds out in the worst way, and there's a bit of a third-act stressor, but I wouldn't classify it as a breakup. It wasn't, but there was a week or so of little contact. Explanations on loves and no loves below.

😍 Ryan. He was so sweet. His Swedish terms of endearment got me every time. I was straight up googling them. He was NOT really an F-boy. Seems like early in his career, when he was young, he slept around a little, but he hadn't been that way for a long time.
👎Griffin. First of all, I'm sure he's going to have a book at some point, and since he's an F-boy, I doubt I will read it. I seriously do not get the volume of books written about F-boys. I do not find it endearing or attractive when authors write an MMC who has slept with everyone, especially athletes who have a hole to poke in every city (It's why Mile High was a DNF for me). How are we supposed to believe that suddenly he's going to drop all that tail for one chick...especially when he's on the road for days and days at a time?
😍 Ryan wasn't shy about wanting Maren and his feelings or intentions about her.
😍 Maren was a cool chick. She was an FMC I actually liked!
👎 The story pacing or timeline seemed off. There were several times when something was referenced, then chapters later talked about again as if it happened. For example, Ryan, the team, and Maren and her friend are out at a bar. Griffin, in the dark about Ryan and Maren, brings a chick over to Ryan. Said chick is into Ryan, obviously looking to hook up, but Ryan is not interested. The chick sits close and touches him. He is between a rock and a hard place, allows her to sit there, and does talk to her, but moves her hand and tries to communicate he's not interested. Griffin is confused, but Ryan tries to just shrug it off to he's not into random hook-ups anymore. Of course, Maren is front row to this situation, and while she understands why Ryan can't do anything or say anything, she's still hurt and mad. So he goes to talk to her...then a chapter or two later, it is referenced like it just happened, but it was days ago. It was like the conversation was happening again...it was weird.
The timeline kept feeling off, and it maybe could have been more closely edited. EX: In one part, Maren was w/ her ex for 2 years, then it was 1. Ryan and Cole (a teammate) had a conversation about Maren and something going on and how Ryan needed to tell Griffin before he found out another way-then had the same convo all over again as if it didn't happen.
😍 The side characters, for the most part, are going to be fun. The single dad, Eli, is next, and I think his story will be good. I'd totally read it.
😍 Griffin and Maren's parents were so cool, and welcoming.
😍 and 👎: I loved that when Griffin found out about Maren and Ryan, they were "solid" in that they didn't totally run from each other, but stayed together that night, professing full feelings and how real their relationship is. However, the 👎 comes in for a few reasons:
1. Griffin's response was a bit childish. Yes, he had every right to be upset that he was kept in the dark, but his response put an even more sour taste in my mouth for him. He pouted and shut them out, caving sooner for Maren. But also 👎 b/c Ryan was supposed to talk to him several times before he found out and didn't, always let something get in the way. Then, after Griffin knew, he was supposed to clear it up ASAP and didn't. I'm talking like a week or two. During this time, Maren has pulled back b/c she doesn't want to be the reason for them fighting or the team falling apart, but also SHE IS HURT THAT RYAN HASN'T TAKEN THE LEAD. He keeps texting and promising he's going to talk to him, but then it is days and days. That really would have set my anxiety off.
Eventually, he does and is clear to make her feel chosen, but it wasn't good enough for my liking.
Also, I felt like AI was involved in this in some way. There were a lot of repetitive phrases and parts that weren't typical of actual people's conversations, if that makes sense?

Truly, this is a very cute, sweet story of people who both had some healing and found each other again. Both comparing everyone to each other w/o even realizing it. I really liked Ryan so much, can't wait for the rest of the books!

I absolutely fell in love with this team. Not just Maren and Ryan but all the guys on the team. Their dynamic personalities just drew me in. I will say, COLE IS MINE! I licked him and I am claiming him! This book plays into second chance and forbidden romance tropes so well. I enjoyed seeing how things developed and came to light. I became invested in seeing things through and found it so hard to put the book down needing to know how things would happen. I love that this is just the start. I am so excited for what is to come with the Sidewinders.

What a delightful, hockey romance! I curled up, cozy, warm rooting for Maren and Ryan the whole time!
Spicy, tense with lots of great Hockey banter this book is so good. For the fan favourite of hockey or those like me who just love a well written romance that ends well, this book is for you!

From the start Maren and Ryan are attracted to one another, nine years prior they had a 'moment' one that left a mark on both of them, but leading different lives and having Griffin, Maren's brother as a best friend in his hockey team does not bode well for them both. When an opportunity comes up for Ryan to move to Phoenix, Griffin's hometown he takes it as the new Captain, Griffin too follows! Life couldn't be better.
Now closer than ever, Ryan being Griffin's best friend they see one another all the time. To make matters worse Maren is appointed as the Director of Sports Medicine and as the teams physical therapist she is very hands on with Ryan.. Their feelings are growing, so much to lose but you can'r deny true love! Reading you just know the more things progress the nore the hurt will grow not only for Griffin, the team as a whole as they should be united as a team. The Sidewinders are a diverse team, young players and experienced players like Griffin and Ryan, so they shoukd be role models. I loved how the team pulled together, their banter was so funny, I giggled so much.

I mean what can really happen , the no sister rule between friends is crazy 😅 You feel the tension, the players feel it too as it all comes to a head? I was shouting all the way, tell him!
Th0e spice is so hot, the feral mouth of Swedish Ryan who talks dirty in his native tongue, holy moly!
I couldn't put this down, the first book I have read by Amy but certainly won't be my last. A family of hockey players that each have their unique characters that are begging to be heard.
A great start to the Phoenix Sidewinders series. Well written in such a way it was like talking to a friend, as I coild imagine jumping straight into this world. Thanks to Amy for an ARC copy. All opinions are my own.

⭐⭐⭐⭐

Offside was such a fun and addictive start to the Phoenix Sidewinders series. While Ryan and Maren's romance is the heart of the story, what made this book work for me was how much attention was given to who they are as individuals and what they bring into their relationship.

Maren was probably my favorite part of the book. She is ambitious, capable, and determined to build a career on her own terms, but there is also vulnerability underneath that confidence. I especially liked watching her learn to separate what other people expect from her from what she actually wants. She never felt like a heroine who simply existed to support the hero, which made her easy to root for.

Ryan, meanwhile, is the kind of hero who quietly sneaks up on you. He is reserved and thoughtful rather than constantly trying to dominate every scene, and his actions often speak louder than his words. His loyalty is one of his strongest qualities, although I liked that the story also allowed him to make mistakes. His tendency to decide what is best for others creates believable friction between them, especially because Maren is perfectly capable of telling him when he is wrong.

Their chemistry was fantastic. The slow build, lingering attraction, and emotional history gave their relationship more weight than simply throwing two characters together. I also loved the little personal details between them, which made their connection feel intimate and genuinely theirs.

The supporting cast was another highlight. The team already has such distinct personalities, and the friendships and growing sense of family made me just as interested in what comes next. I can already see the potential for some very entertaining future romances.

My main criticism is that the middle occasionally felt repetitive, particularly when the same emotions or situations were revisited. A few parts could have been tighter, but it didn't take away from how much I enjoyed the overall story.

Thank you to Amy Briggs for the ARC copy!

Great start to a new series.

Ryan and Griffin have been friends since college. When the opportunity with an expansion team puts them back together as teammates, everything seemed perfect. Until her.

See, nine years ago, Griffin's sister visited him at college and there was some sparks with Ryan. But he pushed them down since not only was she his best friend's sister, she was four years younger and he was headed to the NHL.

Those feelings are still there, and finding out she is going to be working for the team, Ryan is going to make every effort to make her his. One thing though, the golden rule about sisters of best friends and teammates.

Maren got out of a bad relationship and took her dream job. She doesn't want anything to stand in her way or make people think she got special treatment. But Ryan is not just anything. He is the one she wanted nine years ago and still wants

They start things slow and then decide to hide their relationship from everyone, including Griffin.
As time progresses and their feelings get stronger, they both know they need to tell him. Ryan wants to talk to him first.

But what happens when Griffin finds out before they tell? Will this ruin everything?

Book starts slow, it does give a good background of the team as it is the first in the series. But once it gets going it is a total page turner.

Can't wait for the next one.

Advance Reader copy book from the Author.

This is a new to me Author. This book was sweet.

Ryan is traded to a new team in Arizona. He’s adjusting to the weather a new team. He’s also the captain of the hockey team. Along with his best friend Griffin. He’s observant poised. But the moment he sees Maren his best friend sister he is doing everything in his power to stay his away.. it all started with one kiss.

Maren is their team Physical therapist Griffins little sister.
Who has a major crush for Ryan for nine years. But swore off getting close to anyone or being in a relationship after a bad break up. It starts off with one kiss. One thing leads to another and she’s falling. Until Griffin finds out.

Ryan and Maren are both super sweet. Him calling her cute Swedish names of endearments swoon. They do go through all of the obstacles to keep it a secret, try not to fall for each other. But they do they get their beautiful HEA.

This was the second book by this author I had read, and I've now become a lifelong fan. It’s the first book in the Phoenix Sidewinders Hockey Series, and if you think you don't have time to get addicted to a new series, I am asking you to change your mind. Ryan is the team captain, and Maren is the team's physical therapist. I love a man who can handle the pressure of an entire hockey team but starts malfunctioning the second one specific woman walks into the room. A big THANK YOU to Maren for having standards, since I can't stand it when another woman agrees to be somebody's dirty little secret just because he has a nice face and questionable intentions. The little sister of his best friend is the ideal combination for my needy little heart. The idea of Ryan trying to lead, protect his friendships, and keep his hands to himself at the same time feels like a fantastic mess, and I was happy to watch every second of it. Who knew a Swedish-American hockey captain with a filthy mouth is apparently one of my very specific weaknesses? If you need me, I'll be right here, emotionally invested in fictional hockey players and wondering how many book boyfriends I now have while I wait for the next book.

This was a huge love for me. Ryan and Maren her being Griffins sister, him being Griffins friend and teammates. It mashes Maren off limits. And although they’re both attracted to one another, they know it’s dot the best. So they move on and live their lives. When they run into one another again, it was too cute. Maren introducing herself like roach wouldn’t remember her lol. These two were so great. I loved seeing them catch up after so long. The connection they had was awesome. I truly enjoyed this story. It brought fun and sweetness. Great banter and steamy moments. Absolutely loved this.

ARC Review
This book came during the busiest season of my life and as much as I wanted to finish it in a couple days life didn't let me.

This book pulled me and had me in a chokehold! The chemistry between Ryan and Maren was top notch, but not only between them but it truly felt like I was part of the Sidewinders team.

Happy Release Day and thank you for the chance to read such a steamy hockey romance!

Offsides by Amy Briggs was such a fun romance! I’m always a sucker for good chemistry, banter, and characters who make me want to yell, “Just admit you like each other already!”

I really enjoyed getting wrapped up in their story and watching everything unfold. It was sweet, entertaining, and gave me exactly the kind of light romance I love getting lost in. Definitely a fun read!

Brothers best friend is one of my favorites. It was easy to fall in love with Ryan and Maren. It was also easy to fall in love with the Phoenix Sidewinders. A new team in a city that lost hockey made a statement showing the city why they belong. Ryan showed Maren what she deserves. The chemistry was good and it was well written.

Review copy was provided by the author.

Found family, spiciness, best friend’s little sister — it’s everything you’d want in a cute and spicy hockey romance book. If you’ve been in a funk since Off-Campus and Briar U, this would be a good introduction to more of the hockey romance universe. The spice was there and you won’t be disappointed.

Maren and Ryan were adorable and the yearning was there’s however, I found myself getting distracted at points in the book because I found there was a lot of repetition or descriptions that did not necessarily need to be there. However, I loved the idea of a best friend’s little sister and captain of the hockey team. It was great and really pushed that narrative forward without losing sight of it.

I loved having strong characters right off the bat and I can’t wait to read more about this universe especially with who have met in the first book alone.

“Alltid din….always yours”

“Offside” is the first book in Amy’s new series “A Phoenix Sidewinders Hockey Romance.” This is a spicy contemporary hockey romance featuring a Swedish-American captain with a filthy mouth, a heroine who refuses to be anyone’s secret, and a protective older brother who sees everything.

Ryan Lindqvist has been drafted to the new team in the NHL, the Phoenix Sidewinders as part of the expansion draft. “A franchise that looked at me and said you're the one we want at the center of it. An organization willing to pay what the Sidewinders had paid to make that happen.” Phoenix is a town that wants hockey back! His best friend since college, Griffin Callahan, has also been drafted to the Sidewinders….they are teammates again. Maren Callahan, Griffin’s sister, has also been employed as the Director of Sports Medicine at the Sidewinder’s. Nine years ago when she came to visit her brother at college, Ryan and Maren met each other….neither have forgotten each other.

“You know what you do to me, Maren. What you’ve always done to me. And it’s getting harder to remember what the right thing to do is here. Especially now.” He was right, but I couldn’t stop. “Why now?” “Because you're the most beautiful woman in every room. I can't keep my eyes off you. I'm clocking you all the time, making sure I get even just a glimpse of you. The things you do to me… Do I need to go on?”

There is never a dull moment! This is everything you expect from a sports romance with a touch of alpha male plus brother’s best friend thrown in. I am very happily hooked - I did not want it to end! Once I started reading, I could not put this book down! At times you will laugh, you will cry, get angry and frustrated - most of all, you will love the twists! This book will charm “the pants off you” and leave you going back for more. It has fun, laughs, intrigue, twists that you do not expect, and physical attraction. You will fall in love with Ryan and Maren. What will happen when Griffin finds out about their relationship?

“I cannot keep my hands off you,” I said. It came out rougher than I intended. “Three hours. Do you have any idea—” “I know.” She pulled me flush to her, and she had to feel how hard I was. “I know—” I kissed her again, deeper, walked her back two steps until she was against the wall and pressed the length of myself against her so she could feel exactly what three hours of watching her across a room had done. She exhaled sharply through her nose.”

I thoroughly enjoyed this beautiful love story, with all the ups, the downs, the friendship, the heartaches and most of all, what love can overcome. From page to page, chapter to chapter, from cover to cover - you will enjoy this beautiful story! This book will not disappoint! Highly recommended 😊

Arc review. I really enjoyed the storyline but the writing style is just not what I usually would go for so I did find it a little hard to get into the story at times. There was a lot of inner monologue where we were just getting facts and we didn’t really get to see friendships really build between any of the characters in my opinion. The main characters were really well thought out and the foundation of their relationship was written really well where you could see this is a relationship that will last. The book was set up to give us the foundation for the rest in the series by giving us information around the other 4 I assume will have books. I did have issues with the timelines in some spots but I assume that will all be ironed out by the time the book comes out!

Ryan the man that you are 🥵

Obsessed with this whole book! I can’t wait to see what this series becomes !! Ryan was brought to Arizona to see what can happen by starting off as the first Captain of this new tea, along with his best friend Griff, but is also reminded that Griffin is originally from AZ. His family has always welcomed him with open arms, but since college he’s been trying to put his crush on Griffs sister on the back burner. Well- his sister is now the head of the sports medicine dept for his new team… and they are once again in each other’s orbit. She also has been hiding her feelings for Ryan. Their chemistry burns bright and hot… it’s epic. Amazing love story of Will they won’t they, with 3.5 🌶️ rating !

Oh how deeply I wanted to love this. The prequel set up such lovely tension beteeen Ryan and Maren, and I had the highest of hopes for this book and they just were not met, sadly.

Things started out okay. Areas were a bit wordy, and had some unnecessary repetition in others. When they finally got together, things sorta fell apart. There was a lot of inconsistency timeline-wise that definitely took you out of the story. When they got together Maren didn’t want to tell anyone because of a) her brother and b) she didn’t want anyone to discount her abilities because she was sleeping with a player. Sure, that makes plenty of sense. They never really talk about that again sans the longterm convos of “should we go public” and “my bother is gonna lose it” pieces. Next think you know, it’s suddenly Ryan’s fault and he’s keeping her a secret and operating on his own timeline and not taking into consideration Maren’s feelings?!?!

All in all, there was a lot left to be desired in many departments, and while I did receive this as an arc and I’m optimistic that several of the errors/inconsistencies/wordiness is fixed in the final prose, the writing style just simply was not for me. I do not plan on continuing the series.

I recieved an advanced ebook copy from the author in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
