It's become the norm to complain that we're always tired. In Dr. Holly Phi llips' Exhaustion Solution, Dr. Holly aims to end this accepted state of exhaustion and send a message to readers that they do not have to be drained of energy just because they have a demanding job, a family, or an active social life—or all three. She also explains the insidious nature of fatigue, educating readers on the havoc that persistent tiredness wreaks on the body and mind, from weight gain and cognitive impairment to even a higher risk of heart attack and stroke.
Dr. Holly's passion for the subject stems from the quest to cure her own constant weariness—which she struggled with for more than 20 years—as well as the countless complaints of chronic tiredness she hears from patients each day in her internal medicine practice. While a few readers might find a link between their fatigue and a medical condition such as chronic fatigue syndrome or fibromyalgia, Dr. Holly knows that many more will discover that diet, exercise, and sleep habits are contributing to their lack of energy.
This guide will help readers understand their exhaustion, rule out any underlying illnesses, correct any allergies or hormonal issues that may be contributing to extreme tiredness, and incorporate lifestyle factors and alternative therapies that will improve overall energy. Clear, comprehensive, and practical, Dr. Holly Phillips' Exhaustion Solution shines a bright light on an issue many people have simply accepted—but that they don't have to any longer.
Helpful book but the title is a victim of overzealous marketers. There is no breakthrough here. That said, there is good information, starting with the basics like sleep habits and also reviewing diet, exercise and medical causes of fatigue. I found it helpful, but as some Amazon reviews pointed out, it is definitely written for women (and to some extent rightfully so, since we are much more commonly diagnosed with fatigue inducing disorders). Many of the recommendations end with "see your doctor," which makes some sense as long as you have a doctor who will take you seriously. Net result is that I have used some of the advice and am somewhat less tired but this was not a miracle cure by any means.
I see where Ms Phillips is coming from, and my therapist was recommending almost everything she had to say, but I am wary of accepting anything as gospel truth. She recommends kicking your pets out of bed while you sleep, and I am sorry, that is not going to happen. I have also seen her advice to read outside of bed when insomnia hits. That might not happen very soon for me either. Just saying...
In my experience, when you're bone tired, pets and significant others can do whatever they want to you. But perhaps it is valid information though.
Everything you have already heard about exhaustion and its remedies all in one place. Good, sound advice. The only problem is that when you are exhausted, even considering taking on changes in eating, sleeping, exercise, etc., can seem too much. I would suggest implementing only one little thing at a time. This will not relieve exhaustion but at least it will not be compounded.
This book is a collection of all the things that could be responsible for causing fatigue. The detail is similar to what one would find researching the Mayo Clinic's website or similar sites. The patient stories fills the book out somewhat.
Well, it's comprehensive, but I didn't personally find any new or helpful information. If someone is dealing with mysterious fatigue, this book may be a good starting place to help figure out what tests to get, or what life changes to try
Another book that encouraged me to try thyroid meds. Also has strict dietary recommendations and I’m very tired of sorting through dietary restrictions.
I wish I could say this book was valuable to me. Ms. Phillips certainly conducted a significant amount of research during her studies, but, the solutions are far from effective for an average reader. It is focused on women which I could certainly appreciate. The issue was that it was list and after list after list of what "could be causing fatigue". The laundry list helps you to identify potential causes but it is so extensive that it was like searching the web for an answer by typing in "What causes fatigue?"
I belive she could do well within her own business by analyzing issues of individuals and coming up with a solution, but as a reader and a long time fatigue sufferer, it is a bit overwhelming to have to decipher the code.
Great book that examines many of the symptoms and causes of exhaustion. Dr. Holly Phillips unmasks the possible underlying causes such as sleep habits, stress, eating and drinking habits, exercise, hormones, autoimmune diseases, and depression. She gives suggestions of vitamins and super foods to eat and excercises to help with your symptoms. She writes honestly as someone who has battled fatigue for many years. A very good read and great information for anyone that has dealt with chronic fatigue.
Nothing new here. I did not find anything that helped me with my fatigue...I have certainly tried all the above. I agree with the one person who mentioned that when one is totally fatigued is not the time to try so many new challenges...nor even to read a book, at times. I think it is best to follow the advice of Dr Lucinda Bateman at the Bateman Clinic in Salt Lake City, or Dr Nancy Klimas in Florida. They are on top of all the latest research about fatigue disorders. They work tirelessly to find a solution.
Geared toward women, especially working moms. Clearly written and full of sound explanations and reasonable recommendations. I appreciated the author's tone and liked that her advice comes both from medical acumen and personal experience. I plan to take on Dr. Phillips's 7 Day Fatigue Study and will report back...
