Broken Survivor by Jennifer Labelle was an emotional 5 star read.
Romance, Ugly cry, Mind F#ck, Hot Alpha

Zander Harrison is the light to her darkness

I’m emotionally spent. This was a difficult story with a positive ending.

This is Holly's story told in her POV.
Holly witnesses her mom's murder at a young age and has a deadbeat dad who is never there. He loves his alcohol and drugs more. Holly and her sister Crystal become the adults in the family.
But sometimes even love isn’t enough to heal a shattered soul. And all the hard work in the world can’t save...A broken survivor.

Holly struggles with many ups and downs dealing with her guilt of feeling like she caused her mother's death.
When Holly meets Zander you can feel an instant connection. There is something about him that helps chase her demons away. Will his love and support help put Holly back together?

“Keep love in your heart. A life without it is like a sunless garden when the flowers are dead. The consciousness of loving and being loved brings a warmth and a richness to life that nothing else can bring.”

This was a true survival story. Of course the ugly cry made an appearance here and there. Jennifer really pulls you in with her writing. This was such a realistic story with some great secondary characters that added a great element. I loved how everything was brought together in the end, a truly HEA for Holly. The epilogue was perfect.

This story should come with a box of tissues tucked into the cover for both the sad and the happy tears. It kept me up late at night to continue to read, to agonize with Holly and to hope with her. What better compliment can one give a story than to say how pulled into it you were, how immersed you became that in the end reading the story inspired you to fight harder, to live fuller, and to strive to better myself.

This is a story about survival. Period. Yes there is struggle and romance and all sorts of other things, but overall, the overriding story is about how a woman overcame more than most of us can even fathom. It will move you to tears and force you to smile in between bouts of anger at the injustices of the world. I can only equate reading this story to reading stories about war. Having no point of reference to what happened to the main character is my luxury. So, I felt what I could of Holly’s unimaginable pain, knowing I would never fully know what she went through. Still, this story rang with such a brutal truth, told in such a fashion that I could identify as much as I could, sympathize, and cry right along with Holly as she suffered and celebrate with her when she triumphed against unbelievable odds.

Holly was a fully fleshed out character, and though her eyes, thanks to many little details, a reader gets to know her and those around her from her mother and her big sister to the man who gave her life only to hurt her in many ways and the man who loved her enough to help her survive it all. The plot was complete, a true hero’s journey with so many twists and turns that you can’t imagine how Holly went on. Hence the perfect title, Broken Survivor.

This author is amazing. I’m no stranger to Jennifer Labelle’s work, have enjoyed her stories in the past, but with this story she has more than outdone herself. The tale touched me again and again, amazed me, and left me breathless at both the good and the bad events in Holly’s life. And Zander, well let me just say I wanted to pull him from the pages of the book to give him a huge hug more than once. Honestly I could go on and on, but I don’t want to give too much away, so let me just end by saying that if I could I’d give it more than just five stars.

This story takes you on Holly's emotional journey from her childhood into adulthood. She has an unfair and very rough home life and becomes passed around from house to house. Then she meets Zander, the one solid thing in her life. He is loving, charming, handsome, and a constant in her life. Labelle orchestrates the two key characters beautifully as she weaves them in and out of each others lives and creates a lasting relationship.

There are some hard issues addressed in the book, abuse, drugs, growing up in a dysfunctional home...but these things exist in the world and unfortunately some have had to endure them. Broken Survivor is a tale that takes you from the hopeless depths of mourning a loved one to the exciting and blissful event of giving birth.

It's an entertaining read with a sweet love story at the heart of it.

Really enjoyed following Holly through many hardships and happiness. This story of ultimate survival teaches us we can not only survive but thrive in a life full of ups and downs. Murder and heartache follow this young woman through life and make the reader cry and get completely involved. The main reason for the 4* instead of 5 is all in Holly. It is really hard at times to follow her real age and maturity. The writing was good, I simply felt the heroines actions werent indicative to her life and age. I felt a little lost when it came to her behaviors and thinking.
Aside from the above it was a wonderful story. So many roller coasters full of emotion. You cant decide whether to wait for the proverbial other shoe to fall, OR think shes finally past her "cursed" luck.

This book is not for the faint-hearted, but I highly recommend it. Holly’s story is hard to read and my heart just broke for her and all the things she had to go through.

There was no fantasy or easy ways out here: this is an extremely realistic story. Holly is a great protagonist and Zander was wonderful. They had to deal with some very difficult situations at a young age and came through thanks to the love they had for each other.

Jennifer Labelle has told an important and difficult story and I look forward to reading more of her books.

Holly is broken in so many ways. After seeing her Mother's dead body in front of her the only person she can blame is herself... after all Holly is the one that told her Mom everything she overheard. This leaves Holly moving from place to place and finally getting a break when she meets Zander. Will Holly finally get a happily ever after or will she loose him too?

Not my kind of story

Fairly well written book but I prefer crime drama so this emotional family story was not really my style. A mixture of different characters view points and diary type scenes jump through a dysfunctional life

OMG what an emotional rollercoaster! Jennifer Labelle takes us into the life of poor Holly Hewitt. After witnessing her mother's brutal murder at a young age, Holly faces a life full of demons that she can't outrun. With a dead beat dad who'd rather get high than be a parent, Holly and her older sister Crystal have to grow up. And fast.

After bouncing around for a while trying to find her place, Holly meets Zander and he starts to help heal old wounds. He holds her when she cries and helps chase the demons away that haunt her dreams.

I found myself tearing up, a lot as I read this heartbreaking story of pain, loneliness, loss and ultimately the struggle Holly faced to put herself back together as she let go of the guilt and tried to move on with her life.

Jennifer is a marvel and I can almost guarantee you'll be reaching for the box of tissues as you read this one (Chocolate is a requirement).

I received a copy of the book for my honest review. I absolutely loved this book. Holly was one strong lady. After watching her mom get murdered and getting put in a foster home. Zander is a guy who try's to protect her and show her love exists and that she can trust him. Will she give in or is she to broken to be saved ?
