What happens when a person doesn’t believe in any limitations? An internationally renowned professional cyclist, Leah Goldstein has raced towards finish lines all her life. Her life lessons however extend beyond her achievements on a bike―from a young World Kickboxing Champion, to a trainer of elite Israeli soldiers including the commandos; from breaking glass ceilings by entering Israel’s Undercover Police Unit to breaking records as a professional athlete.
Having faced fear many times, Goldstein has learnt that no matter how genuine the actual danger we confront may be, we have two choices: fight or flight. Yet, some of us have fallen into a third, much more dangerous category, by simply freezing. We do nothing, and therefore risk neither failure nor success. Full of tragedies and triumphs, crashes and podiums, Leah Goldstein’s life has been a long series of fights and even a few flights. Her fascinating story is not about being fearless but about being unstoppable.
The Amazon warrior of Greek mythology has nothing on Leah. She is the modern day equivalent in the form of an elite competitor (or the Terminator), for that matter. She is relentless. Her story is fascinating and I read it in one sitting. I wish that Krakauer had been the one to write this as he would have given us the kind of insight into personality that only he can, the one that looks beneath the action into the psyche as well. Nevertheless, it is a great story and one worth reading. Every young woman should read it just when they are passing through their " I am not good enough phase" as it elevates us all.
Action-packed and very motivating. Do what scares you as you will always succeed in one way or another. Not for the faint of heart! Some pretty visual descriptions of her race crashes. I found myself trying to "look away" from the book as I was reading. Easy-to-read writing style that puts you right in the story. Leah Goldstein is an admirable person who really does have "no limits".
