Love from Christmas Tree Farm is a tender, quietly uplifting festive novel about grief, unexpected connection, and the small miracles that arrive when life feels most uncertain. Gwen has spent years building a home, a business, and a sense of belonging at Christmas Tree Farm — a place threaded with memories of her beloved husband, Paddy. But after his death, downsizing feels inevitable, even if her heart isn’t ready to let go.

Everything shifts when nine‑year‑old Willow, a distant relative of Paddy’s, arrives on Gwen’s doorstep in urgent need of somewhere safe to stay. Their connection is immediate and gently moving, and the author captures beautifully how grief can soften into purpose when someone needs you. With her new property purchase falling through and money suddenly tight, Gwen decides to reopen her Christmas tree business for one final season — a last hurrah she never expected to share with Willow, Horse (his mum’s wonderfully eccentric friend), and Lara, the steady, kind social worker who becomes part of Gwen’s makeshift support system.

The contrast between Gwen’s tranquil, heartfelt offering and the looming presence of mega‑corporate Christmas Tree World next door adds a lovely thread of tension. It’s the classic battle of charm versus commercial flash, and watching Gwen fight for her little corner of magic is one of the book’s most endearing elements. The farm itself feels alive — cosy, nostalgic, and full of the kind of quiet beauty that can’t be manufactured.

What shines most is the emotional warmth. This is Gwen’s last Christmas at the farm, and the story honours that bittersweetness without ever becoming heavy. Endings, the book reminds us, can open doors rather than close them. Love, friendship, and belonging often arrive in unexpected shapes — a child who needs you, neighbours who become family, a community that remembers what truly matters.

Gentle, heartfelt, and full of festive charm, Love from Christmas Tree Farm is a story about healing, hope, and the courage to begin again. A perfect cosy read for the season.

This is a perfect seasonal read but don't just wait until Christmas.; it's a gentle lead up to the business of the celebrations.
Since her husband died, Gwen has been struggling to manage the Christmas tree farm and has come to the unhappy conclusion that she must sell up and move into a much smaller, modern property. Influencer Scarlett is keen to move in with her partner Luke so all is set for a change of lifestyle. However, Gwen's thoughts of moving on are thrown into turmoil when social worker Lara tells her about Will, a nine year old boy, related to her late husband, who is in need of a place to stay until he finds his forever home. Suddenly, life as she knew it has changed and Gwen has promised Will one last Christmas at the farm. With willing support from Lara and Luke, along with Paddy, who's known Will since he was small, new life is breathed into her sad existence.
A heart warming story, just right for the cold winter months.
Thank you to the publishers and NetGalley for the preview copy.

Since her husband’s death, Gwen found their Christmas Tree Farm a burden and a struggle. This led her to the heartbreaking decision to sell up and move to a new-build flat for a simpler life. Just as she was coming to terms with this, her world was turned upside down by the arrival of nine-year-old Will.

Life as she knew it had changed completely, but perhaps this unexpected new chapter was exactly what she needed. 💚

What a lovely, heartwarming story! I fell in love with the characters and wanted nothing but the best for them all. I especially enjoyed the addition of the little robin and the masterful way the author weaved the story in just the direction you wanted it to go.

The perfect cosy Christmas book to devour in one sitting. I did so on a sunny autumnal day, despite my usual slow reading pace. Jo Thomas’ books are like warm hugs – I can’t believe I’ve only recently discovered her!

I do love a Jo Thomas book, and I love Christmas, so this is the ideal combination for me.
Gwen is a widow, who has inherited her husband’s family farm and is about to sell up and move into a sensible flat, when she acquires guardianship of a 9 year old cousin of her husband,
Willow has had a tough life, and initially Gwen offers to take care of him while his social worker finds him a forever family, but obviously life has a way of working out in Jo’s books, and a little loving family forms around Will, as he, Gwen, and an assortment of other people help to resurrect the farm’s Christmas tree farm for one last hurrah.
Along the way, there’s a bit of cosy romance, and Jo’s usual lovely foodie additions - Will loves Indian food so that’s the focus here.
Like a warm hug in book form. Very festive, very moving and lots of heart.

- Jo Thomas plus Christmas equals perfection- what a gorgeous, heartwarming read. This has to be one of the more emotional books of Jos I’ve read, it was written so beautifully.

It had the perfect mix of characters who all blended together effortlessly. The story was around kinship, love, hope, community and second chances. It was written so tenderly and I developed such a love for Will, Gwen and Horse and their relationships.

I loved how the story focused around bringing people together in the kitchen too, a unique but brilliant take as it is in all of Jos books.

This is the most perfect warm, tender, festive read and I am absolutely in love with it.

This is the first book that I have read by this author and I was pleasantly surprised by it, as I was expecting more lovey dovey.
I loved the story of Will and his fostering, feeling this was very thought out and was accurately portrayed. The message I take from this book is that families come in all shapes and sizes and you don’t even need to be related to become one.

Such a beautiful, beautiful story by Jo Thomas that I devoured in one sitting, falling in love with each of the characters and simply unable to put it down. Apart from when I had to take a min or two to sob into a tissue! Happy tears, I promise! Highly recommend this one for a heartfelt Christmas book that is centred on all the things Christmas should be about.

Another fantastic Christmas read from Jo Thomas.

After the loss of her husband, Gwen is all set to sell their Christmas tree farm and move into a small flat. However that all changes when she meets Willow.

What follows is a beautiful story with a tremendous bunch of characters. I loved how they all came together and supported each other. I fell in love with Willow and it was so nice to see Willow come out of his shell as he began to feel secure.

Once again the recipes in the story had me salivating and I have already attempted a chicken curry and will try samosas next.

An amazing story of the power of friendship, family and the true meaning of Christmas.

This was a lovely, funny and surprisingly moving Christmas read.

At the heart of the story is Gwen, who is preparing to sell the Christmas tree farm she shared with her late husband, Paddy. Since his death, the farm has become too big for her to manage on her own and she feels it is time to move somewhere smaller and start again, even though she doesn't really want to.

Then nine-year-old Willow comes into the picture. He is a distant relative of Paddy’s rather than Gwen’s, and Gwen is effectively his last chance of somewhere stable to stay for his future. I found that part of the story genuinely sad and touching, particularly because Gwen is already not really dealing with her own grief and trying to work out what comes next for her.

There is plenty of humour alongside the more emotional parts. I particularly enjoyed the rather Essex-girl-style influencer who wants to buy the Christmas Tree Farm and flatten it to make way for stables, and the contrast between her and her much more down-to-earth boyfriend/assistant/member of staff. He gradually becomes a much bigger part of the unlikely found family forming at the farm, as well as a new friend to Lara, the social worker, who doesn't really need to keep being there but somehow keeps finding herself drawn back.

There is also the difference between tradition and something very shiny, and what people want/need is not what you expected!

I loved the wonderful story of the dogs - and how they help everyone form the family... and the plan to save the farm!

Although this is a festive romance, for me the strongest part was the sense of found family and belonging. Gwen doesn’t have to take responsibility for Willow, but gradually the farm becomes about much more than selling Christmas trees for one last season. People who have no obvious reason to belong together slowly start to do exactly that.

This is another lovely book to read by the fire and devour, and maybe think of the special tree that Gwen and her new friend-family have put together, and make one for yourself!
