When a group of rogue djinn attack the sanctuary of Taos, New Mexico, Jessica Monroe has no choice but to activate the device that was designed to destroy the elementals’ supernatural powers. With her lover Jace and the other friendly djinn in Taos doomed to a weakened half-life as long as the machine is active, Jessica and the other members of the community launch a desperate mission to retrieve the one man who might be able to help them — Miles Odekirk, the scientist in Los Alamos who invented the device in the first place.
The threat of retaliation by the Los Alamos survivors is only one of the perils facing Jessica, however. For Jace has his own enemies, and when an ancient rival returns to seek his own revenge, Jessica may have to make the ultimate sacrifice to save not only the man she loves, but everyone in the Taos community, human and djinn alike.
A native of Southern California, Christine Pope has been writing stories ever since she commandeered her family’s Smith-Corona typewriter back in the sixth grade. Many reams of dead trees later, she’s happy to announce that her debut novel, Fringe Benefits, was published by Pink Petal Books on April 8, 2010. Her short fiction has appeared in Astonishing Adventures, Luna Station Quarterly, and the new journal of dark fiction, Dark Valentine. Her paranormal novella, Playing With Fire, was released on August 5, 2010.
While Fringe Benefits is a straight contemporary romance, she writes in a variety of genres, including paranormal romance, fantasy, horror, science fiction, and historical romance. She blames this on being easily distracted by bright, shiny objects, which could also account for the size of her shoe collection.
After spending many years in the magazine publishing industry, she now works as a freelance editor in addition to writing fiction. She lives with her husband and an explosively fluffy Pomeranian mix. Her house is pink, but don’t hold that against her.
Well the story is dragging for me now. So Jace is only a half djinn and has a full djinn brother. Jessica is planing children and a new world yet they still have a major fight coming. It just seems like not a lot happens in this one apart from talking and planning. I haven't got the next book and unfortunately I don't think I will.

About the same feelings I had with the second one. Never felt connection with the other characters so when any losses happened I couldn't get myself to care. Again though, Christine has a nice clear voice and I think the entire series was a great idea.
This is an ok read, if you don't have anything better handy. It's not bad, but it's just not terribly good either. There isn't much in the way of plot twists, and the solutions to the problems aren't clever or interesting. In this book the two main problems resolve themselves mostly due to circumstances with very little forethought or planning from the lead characters.
In this third book, the majority djinn move in to now threaten the existence of the minority group and their Chosen humans, trying to stay out of the way and live in peace. Jessica must lead a strategy to get the technology from the Los Alamos group and use it in some way, if possible, to stop the angry djinn from destroying the Djinn/human piarings group, modeling a way to a better future shared by both types of beings.
These books are often slow going, not enough action for me and too many details every time the dog needs a walk or a pat on the head, or someone takes a bite of some new cuisine created by the chef. I thought it was a trilogy; now I see it goes on and on and on. I have had my fill.
Was first introduced to this book via Bad Magic: Novels of Demons, Djinn, Witches, Warlocks, Vampires, and Gods Gone Rogue. I loved the books but only felt the need to purchase additional books for a few of them. This happened to be one of them. I loved them although I only bought books 1-4. My only problem with them was how accepting some of the people were regarding everyone they knew dying. Realistically I think people would have been a bit more distraught watching everyone die and turn to dust. A little romance does not counteract that much loss. Other than that, I loved them!
Volume three follows on from volume 2, so please read them in order. Being reunited, Jess and Jace and their friends (?) continue to be threatened from various sides. Again there are some disturbing scenes in this book, so be warned. However, the story is well written and I found it very engaging - and yes at the end of this volume the series finally comes to a romantic conclusion (and a novel solution to housework) :-)
Fallen (The Djinn Wars Book 3) by Christine Pope. The group at Taos are attacked but are saved when Jessica activates the box to control the Djinn. They couldn’t live like that so they kidnap the scientist from Los Alamos. Then the device failed and the rogue Djinn attacked again and, to save everyone else, Jessica said she would go with them but the Djinn elders had been alerted and rounded up all the rogues.
I enjoyed and loved reading the Dijinn Wars, books by Christine Pope. They are based on a different story line that i am used to reading...These three books, which are based on Jessica and Jace; Jace who is from another world and Jessica a human. How they found a love for one another and the trials that they went though.
This book was filled with hopes and dreams. Coming to terms with the Dying and starting over. The Djinn and their chosen are starting new lives when out of nowhere they are attacked by a band of Rogue Djinn. The fight for survival is on. Will they get through this or perish. I absolutely loved this book.
This third book was everything I hoped for. While there was cruelty and violence there was also justice. I found bigotry but the love was so much more. Jessica and Jace were the primary couple but there were others. It was that balance that has stayed with me.
This one was not as hard to finish as the 2nd one because there's a happy ending. It still puts you through some tough emotions though, and is still well worth the reread.
A nice romance woven into a fantasy world inhabited by the Djinn. Good characters and a solid storyline that spans 3 books and continues with books that focus on other characters stories.
A love story in dystopian northern New Mexico, at some points very intimate. The Djinn are here and they are making a home among the humans. This story documents the difficulties in making that happen, especially given that there are two powerful forces opposing them.
This book was very good, kept me on my toes. Cannot wait to read the rest in this series. Have already purchased them thank you Christine for very good writing.
Phrases like “thrilling conclusion” are often bandied about when reviewing the third book in a trilogy. After all, this is what we’ve been waiting for, to find out what happens at the end, who lives and dies and who gets a happy ending. Though Fallen is not the final book in The Djinn Wars series, it certainly fits the model of the ending of a fantasy epic. The lovers’ foes, both personal and political, are faced-off against, and some must sacrifice their lives to earn the victories. Some of the plots are tied up in bows, while others are left for the reader to wonder about until the next book comes out. Overall, though, the important questions are answered, and very well too.
When I say it fits the epic model, this is not to say that the book is formulaic. Not at all, in fact, there are several mysteries to uncover with clues from all three books, and plenty of twists along the way. When I got my review copy, I was torn between wanting to read it right away and knowing that once I started, I wouldn’t be able to stop. Once I began reading, I discovered my hopes were completely justified. I devoured the first several chapters of the book in one sitting, only stopping when sleep became absolutely required. Old friends from the second book return, each with something special to offer. The book is full of a variety of strong characters, male and female, including some unlikely allies.
Fans of Pope’s paranormal romance know to expect sparks to fly, and not just in the bedroom, as Jace and Jessica have to fight a war on two fronts, finding out if their bond is strong enough to save their lives.
(I received a digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.)
Fallen is the finale in Christine Popes’ Djinn Wars series featuring Jace and Jessica. We fall right back into the story where book 2 ended.
The communities of Taos (Djinn and their chosen) and Los Alamos ( Survivors) are on track for all out war. When rogue Djinn attack Taos, Jessica is left with no choice but to activate the stregth sapping device Dr Odekirk had created. With their Djinn protectors at a disadvantage, plans are made to try and have the devices creator adapt the device so that those within the field are unaffected.
A select few make their way to Los Alamos and abduct Odekirk. With the help of Lauren he sets about adapting the device, as he has seen first hand the Commanders cruelty against Julie, one of his own people, and no longer wants anything to do with him. But when rogue Djinn break through a weakened field, Jessica faces a horrific choice. Will she give up her love for Jace to protect their community? Will the rogues succeed in removing the 1000 and their chosen from the planet?
Christine has created characters which are strong and earthy but that have also grown over the last 3 books. They have not stood still on their defined roles but have grown and adapted throughout the books. This is a romance where the heroine kicks as much ass as the hero, just in different ways. They are both willing to try all avenues to rescue their people . There are some plot twists and new characters. However I hope this is not the last we have seen of the Taos gang, I really want to know what happens with Julia and between Miles and Lauren!!!!.
Much happier with the ending on this book. It does indeed stand alone. Thoroughly enjoyed all the twists and turns and will likely read the next one to keep in touch with the characters that I've grown to love.
Book 3 didn't flow as well as book 1, but better than book 2 & even at the end of book 3, there still a lot of things left hanging (unanswered questions or situations etc) that I've given up on being answered. Those unanswered questions or situations still pulled me out of the story too. I did like the ending for Jessica & Jace, it felt like a HEA for them. I still feel Jessica seemed to be too talented in general, like she can do no wrong, made her not as realistic. The editing was not great, I'm surprised a published book would have so many mistakes, like wrong words, too many words, words in the wrong order, etc. That definitely interrupts the flow of reading, having to backtrack to clarify what I was reading versus what should have been there.
As a side note, if an author chooses to use a lot of wording that I have to constantly google the meaning of in a book (I think they are trying to impress by using big words or just trying to find different words to use than standard used words to make the story unique), that takes the fun out of reading as well as pulls me out of the story. I don’t read to broaden my vocabulary but to immerse into the story. I relate better if it’s more like the natural spoken/usually used words than words I’ve never heard used before in my nearly 60 years (and I’m not an ignorant or uneducated individual, having had college English courses as well as life experiences).
Continuing on where Taken left off, Jessica has become more courageous and determined. The few Djinn and their chosen are at war with the survivors. The only was to survive is to activate the device that will weaken them, but create a barrier to protect them. Knowing the barrier will not last forever, they continue to search ways to survive.
When rougue Djinn break through, the only hope is Jace. Would you sacrifice your true love so others will live?
Loaded with so many twists and turns, this will not disappoint. If you have enjoyed the first two, you will be pleased with this one.
This series is set in an apocalyptic world scenario with a twist. I thoroughly enjoyed the well written characters and storyline. The situations and strategies for sustainable living are well planned and believable, and that's important because that would have been a deal breaker for me. I'm glad to see that the humans can fight back against the superior forces. If I had to choose one thing that I could change, it would be that all the survivors wouldn't be gorgeous and physically perfect. I can't wait to read the next one! Excellent!
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Christine Pope has done it again. I loved it. Fallen was a great installment to the Djinn Wars Series. I loved the ending and I'm excited for the next one..
This series have been the best and most interesting books I have read in a long time. The idea of another race taking over our world is something that someday could happen . Hopefully it would end as these books have. I just loved these stories.
This book kept the action flowing and not always in the direction expected. I will be interested in seeing if the 2 main characters play significant rolls in the next of this series. One always needs to explore new avenues to peace.
