Three short stories about shape shifters. The sex scenes were not as erotic as I expected, not special.

3 stars for CARNAL INSTINCT by Michelle M. Pillow.
This was the best of the three. I loved the beginning. Fiona’s boyfriend stole her money and possessions, ran up her credit card debt, cheated on her, and left her. She sheepishly asked her father for help. He required she work in the animal preserve. She’s not good at it. The beginning scenes have her complaining to the lion about her life. At one point the lion roared and she ran away screaming, scaring the little kid visitors. The lion happens to be a shape shifter. He visited her that evening as a man. The first half was very good. I enjoyed the characters and dialogue, but not the last half. It was predictable, done before, a copy of other stories.

Data:
Story length: 71 pages. Swearing language: mild. Sexual language: strong. Number of sex scenes: 4. Setting: current day probably U.S. Copyright: 2005. Genre: paranormal romance.

2 stars for DANCE OF SOULS by Mandy M. Roth.
Chan lives in a shifter and magic community. When someone near her dies, she tries to protect them from evil spirits so their soul will go to heaven. She battles evil spirits. She is at risk of going to hell during these battles. Mason is a wolf shifter who can also battle these spirits. He meets Chan while traveling. They are destined to be mates.

The paranormal characters and abilities were not well defined. Chan’s fight with bad wolf shifters was not well done. After Chan and Mason have sex and claim each other, they have two STUPID arguments/fights. I wanted to throw the book. Here’s one. He bit her during sex (claimed her) which means she is now his mate. The next morning she says I don’t know anything about you. Are you married? He says yes. (He doesn’t say yes to you. He lets her think he is married to someone else.) She kicks him out. She is mad.

Data:
Story length: 62 pages. Swearing language: moderate. Sexual language: strong. Number of sex scenes: 2. Setting: unknown. Copyright: 2005. Genre: paranormal romance.

2 stars for REVENGE II by Jaycee Clark.
Reya and Lorenzo (Lo) are shape shifters. Reya was imprisoned over a hundred years ago by a demon. She escaped and wounded him. Now she and Lo are unofficially married. She is having premonitions and dreams about the demon. She drives three hours to visit an artist to purchase his jewelry for sale in her gallery. Lo and her coworker offer to go with her, but she won’t let them. She wants to feel independent. The artist is the demon who now recaptures her. (I’m not giving this away since the reader is in the demon’s head prior to Reya’s arrival.)

Everything was weak: plot, actions, characters, flashbacks. Reya wouldn’t tell Lo or anyone about her premonitions and dreams. That did not interest me.

Data:
Story length: 94 pages. Swearing language: moderate. Sexual language: strong. Number of sex scenes: 3. Setting: 1806 Istanbul and current day Taos, New Mexico. Copyright: 2005. Genre: paranormal romance.

This may have been an I corrected proof. The book was ok, it’s three short novellas and while they were enjoyable, the authors clearly assumed that the reader had read other books in the “world”. It felt like being dropped out of a helicopter into a steamy jungle with no map.

I loved it! I had a lot of fun reading it. i know I will reread it many more times. It just kept me turning pages. If there are any more I hope to find them that go with some of the stories in there. In fact, I'm rereading the first one again as soon as I'm done here, then this one again.

I only liked Carnal Instinct by Michelle M. Pillow. It's hard for me to review erotica short stories. When an author shortens an erotica story, it seems they cut the story out and just leave the sex scenes. I find myself not having any connection to the characters and thus, not caring about the sex scenes.
