This is a new release of a previously published edition.
With her first book, this smart author provided a wonderful summer read for me. Lake Effect not only brings an engaging combination of love, loss, and romance, it's sprinkled with delightful twists of humor and leaves you wanting more. Days after I finished reading every word, I found myself still thinking about the characters, almost as if I knew them and cared about them personally. Touched by her ability to weave words together like artwork, I'll be waiting for more from this brilliant author.
This is a great story with realistic characters. I had a hard time putting it down. Bryson's characters are people you have met, dealt with, or want to meet. The setting is interesting and brings the reader into the story. This certainly is not my "typical" genre or read, but I more than thoroughly enjoyed the story. I was drawn in by the characters, drawn in by the story and look forward to her next literary creation. Well Done!
My genre is usually mysteries which include a dog as one of the characters. This romantic book which did include a dog was a fun enjoyable read. I enjoyed the setting and all the characters. The ending was very predicable but that was part of the enjoyment. There’s a wicked witch which added to the novel. I just wondered how the main character would stand up to her! The book kept my interest to a high that I finished the book in two sittings!

This short romance packs an emotional wallop. Shading into Women's Fiction, Johannah Bryson writes a haunting story focused on Shelby Aylesworth, a young woman burdened by her past. When one of New York City's most eligible bachelors, moves to her island home on Lake Erie, Shelby must decide whether to trust herself to move forward or to retreat further into the safety of memory.
Bryson's use of detail stand out and helps bring her characters to life. I hope this is not the last story of Whiskey Island she'll share with her readers.
This is a well written, easy read. It has a typical love story plot line so you know where the story is going. I enjoyed the book.....until the end. The ending is 2 short chapters. The author did such a great job of pulling you into the story with lots of details. The ending seems like an afterthought. It was short and not detailed at all. It would have been nice for the books final chapters to be as detailed as the rest of the story. Just a couple more pages!
Sweet but a tad predictable. I found this book In Prime Reading and tried it because it was free. I wish author would have developed the characters more instead of following the "old" formula- a cute meeting, fall in love, a dust up- and getting back together- oh, and throw in a dog. None of my friends burst into tears when they got engaged - neither did I.
This book was a fun, light anytime-you-need-to-feel-good read. I usually read historical romance, but enjoyed returning to present time for a good love story. Special thanks to the author for the little glimpse in to the future at the end. So often the characters just barely get together and the book is over. This one left me feeling happy and satisfied.
Very quick read, but very enjoyable. Shelby's losses, and her reactions to them, seemed realistic. The way the main characters met was cute. The fairy-tale ending didn't seem realistic but the book was an uplifting read. Loved Norman. He was perfect and added to the story.
Pretty Woman -minus the "profession", An Officer and A Gentleman -minus the uniform, Fifty Shades of Grey -minus the whips and chains. In other words...predictable.
