Jean Stafford was an American short story writer and novelist, who won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction for The Collected Stories of Jean Stafford in 1970.
Currently devouring everything I can find by Jean Stafford (whose Mountain Lion I read about 30 years ago). A Reading Problem in one of her books of collected stories. Can't determine what year it was written. First published in The New Yorker. Would take too much time to determine what year. Emily is as unique as Frankie, in Carson McCuller's A Member of the Wedding, (1946) altho other than living in small Southern towns, they are nothing alike. Emily, age 10, just wants a comfortable quiet place to read.
