Maya is looking for protection, that might end up being in the form of a mate, but she is hanging with the wrong crowd.
Max is the head of the lion pride and not a nice kitty. He thinks he owns Maya, but Maya wants nothing more to do with him. The pride is into some illegal things and Maya wants out. Max just won't listen. A fight breaks out in the bar they are at and everyone is thrown in jail. Maya included.
Theo is looking for an "in" into the Pride. Trying to get a foot in the door, he wrecks his car in a drag and gets thrown in jail. Not a place he wants to be, but he has to stick it out. Then a female is put in his cell because the jail ran out of room. This really isn't a good idea.
Can Maya help Theo? Can Theo help Maya? There is more to this relationship then just mutual want and things heat up fast.
Looking forward to reading more.

In the story you will find awesome, impressive and engaging characters, banter, fabulous story-line, powerful vivid scene descriptions, shifter confrontation, pent-up desires spiral, knock your socks off heart-throbbing romance, and an ending leaving you curious for the answers you desire from the next book.
Fascinating fast paced well written read by a truly gifted author. When I was a teen I used to watch the illegal drag racing on the sly; was it dangerous most definitely, should I have been there no, but it was spine-chilling and fun to watch. The intermix of authenticity and fantasy make this an exciting read and I loved it from start to finish. The characters were more than convincing as well as praise-worthy. {I received an arc for a completely honest review}. In the world of shifter romance the possibilities are endless and always fascinating. Without reservations I highly recommend this book.

Vera Lark has surprised me. She is new author that new to the shifter world, but I can assure you that can not tell it in her writing. I absolutely loved this book and can not wait for the next one to be released.
Theo was a bear shifter who finds himself locked up for racing. He is one that has the need for speed and loves to race. Theo has not shifted in a while and now he finds himself locked up in a small cell with a strong need to shift. There is nothing he can really do about it but try to do his time and wait it out. There is much more to Theo that meets the eye, but you will have to read the book to find out.
Myra who is a beautiful plus size woman who hangs around the “Pride” which are a bunch of Lion shifters finds herself in the same jail cell with a bear shifter. Can Theo help Myra with a problem that she has? Can Myra keep Theo from shifting while they are in the cell together? Will things get hot and heavy between Theo and Myra?
This book has so many surprises and some truly hot smoking scenes. You will find your self need a cold shower from time to time. If you love fast cars, shifters, and romance you will love this book. Congrats Vera on writing such an awesome read.

Theo and Myra have an interesting first meeting in a jail cell. Myra was in the middle of a fight among some lion shifters. Theo is a bear shifter who was caught drag racing. Theo has some other activities he hasn't disclosed and Myra needs a protector from her ex when they enter into a bargain. Myra has been with a lot of shifters and has low self esteem about not being thin. Her ex encouraged those feelings. The sex starts very quickly after their meeting. It is intense.
The author has provided a good storyline and features a character you don't usually see get much actual writing time. Most of the women into hanging out with shifters in bars are presented in a less than positive way and are only about the sex. You get to see why she is this way and that it hadn't brought her happiness. There is a cliffhanger ending and it will be interesting to see how this all unfolds. I would give it 4.5 stars for being a different take on this kind of character and an interesting beginning to a new series.

This is the first time I have read anything by Verk Lark and I was pleasantly surprised. I'm adding her to my must read list! This book is part of the fast and furryous series. I can't wait to read the rest of them.
Starts off with Theo Parsons being held in a jail cell going nuts because he put off shifting to long added to being in the small cell. In this series (world) humans and shifters know of one another but the shifter seems like a 2nd class being. If a shifter changes in public he/she goes to a all shifter jail called the pound once in your not the same anymore.
Now since the cells are all filled up they put a human woman in his cell. I know what your thinking but it's a long story as to why once you read you will get it lol So her name is Myra and........
Yea any more and I'll give away the good stuff!

This is a short story but it certainly packs a punch.
From the very beginning it grabs your attention with danger and some incredibly hot sex involving an equally hot bear shifter.
Even tho this is a quick read you get a good feel for the characters and it has a strong interesting storyline.
I was totally engrossed in the story unfolding involving a street race and an undercover bear shifter trying to protect Myra, his new found and unexpected mate, from a pride of dangerous lions suspected of being involved in drug trafficking who's prime has decided Myra is to be his whether she wants to or not, then the book finished ! Noooooo, Vera Lark you are mean ending it there lol I HAVE to have book 2 NOW.

This is the first book in a new series where the fast and the furious meets shifters. Theo is thrown in jail because he was tweet racing and he crashed a car but he has been in there too long and needs to shift or mate maybe even both. Maya is placed in a cell with him because she is the cause of barroom brawl. She senses his need to mate and allows him to " use her" to satisfy his bear. When they are released Max, Maya's ex shows up and a challenge is made. Theo makes Maya his mate but there is still the matter of the challenge. This book ends in a cliffhanger but at the time of my review the next part is available. I can't wait to see what happens next.

This is my first read by author Vera Lark but I thoroughly enjoyed this opening short story in a new series. If you like your paranormal romance with raw and smoking hot sex scenes, high action scenes and surprising twists and turns like I do then this certainly is a book for you. I was sucked right into this series and seriously can't wait to see how this series plays out!
After not shifting and letting his bear out in over a month, shifter Theo finds himself confined with the luscious and curvy Myra after illegally racing and wrecking his suped up classic. Can Theo keep himself and his bear in control long enough to not hurt or claim the sweet Myra?

I received this book for an honest review. This was a short quick read that I found entertaining. Theo Parsons is a bear shifter who lands in jail for Drag racing as he sits in jail he's in danger of shifting which is not good. When Myra gets thrown in the cell with him he is not sure that it's a good idea. Maya is looking for protection she wants out of the Lion pride that she is in, but the head of the pride doesn't want to let her go, after a bar fight breaks out she winds up in jail with Theo who is looking for away into the pride and Maya may be his way in. This was a good beginning to a new series for me and I am looking forward to reading the rest of this series.

I received this book for an honest review with that being said. I like the story well enough it had just enough to keep me entertained character seems nice but the story itself to me felt kind rush. Myra just left a bad relationship but she was already ready to jump into another one with a man that she barely knows she should've had red warning flags in her head because that's what got her in the predicament in the first place by rushing into things and not thinking things through I know this is based upon a series so I'll be looking forward to see what's going to happen next maybe then it will make a little bit more sense to me.

Myra left Max and has been trying to be on her own for a while but he never gives up because he claims she is his mate but hasn't marked her yet. Now it is racing for pink slips as a way into the pride.
The characters were very good and the interaction made the story a good read.

Bear shifters are my favorite!!! First time reading this author and it won’t be the last. I love that she picked a racing geek as her hero (Theo), my personal favorite, and the heroine was strong willed with a hint of shyness (Maya), also my favorite. We get a small taste of the villain in this one, it’s more about our two love birds coming together, but I have a feeling the next book will have more on the brutish lion called Max. The sex if off the charts hot but doesn’t overshadow the story line, she added just the right amount to enhance the connection between the two characters. I loved all of it, the story, the characters and I can’t wait for the next installment.

I received Engine Roar as an ARC. The gifting did not determine the review/rating, which reflects my honest opinion. I enjoyed the first installment to a serial/novella (40 pages or so) and the two main characters were a good match for each other. I am pretty critical of grammar issues and proper editing, and the ARC/beta version I read needed more polish. Grammar geeks should view the "Closer Look" preview pane to make your own decision before buying. Also: As this is a serial installment be prepared for an open ending. (Read May 28th 2015)

Theo is a bear stuck in a tiny jail for drag racing. Overdue for a shift, he's fighting for control of his bear. When curvy Myra is put in there with him, smelling like lions, he knows he's not going to be able to maintain. When Myra makes a selfless act to stop him from shifting, they both get more than they bargained for.
This is a quick and hot read. While a lot was including in a very short amount of pages, it was worth the read. I look forward to reading more in this series.

I liked the concept of this story and the characters seemed nice but this story was weak and felt rushed at times. There were parts that worked and parts that didn't. At one point Myra talks about what kind of person Theo is, how would she know what his like she's barely known him for a day. The editing was bad. I understand that others may love this book but for me it just didn't work!

Interesting and very original
Bear shifter Theo meets his mate in a jail cell while she’s covered in Lion smells. How it got there was on an undercover job to infiltrate the Lions while racing cars. But his car got smashed and he got to go to jail and now he’s trying to hold his bear in. Then there’s the problem of the lead Lion, MAX, thinks Myra is his not that he real wants her. Very original and interesting to read this installment.

and its too short and ends with a cliffhanger!!!!!
Other than tht the story seems promising and starts really powerfull...still the cliffhanger after 20 pages sucked big time.

Hot dog! Oh I mean Hot Bear! Fast and the fouious just went furry. Theo is your average bear shifter who love to drag race. When he gets pulled in for a underground job for racing. He is all over it. He meets a women in a cell who asks him for help for helping him out. What will happen when his helping her out? Will he be able to keep her or will he lose her?

Myra is trying to shake a lion that she don't want. When she lands in jail she meets Theo and knows a bear shifter just might be what she needs. This book has fast cars, drugs, two hot alpha males and some hot sex. A must read

Great Read
I liked how this story started. The characters are developing during the story. There is a verbal argument that is as close to violence that there is. The sex scenes are hot and graphic. I'm looking forward to the next story.

This was a different type of shifter story than what I'm used to but that isn't a bad thing. The pace was fast and does end in a cliffhanger.

Really short but good what there was of it. I am not much for cliffhangers. But if you like them you will like this. “I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review”.
