RE: Monarch #4

Monarch IV: Ascension: A Progression Fantasy Epic

Rate this book
Discovery of a tragic death sends Cairn reeling from loss.

Still grappling with the realities of a drastically different kingdom than the one he remembers, he resolves to uncover the connected mysteries, as well as the identities of the mortal individuals involved.

But mortal threats are not the only dangers in store.

As most gods have long since abandoned this world, there are still many great powers that roam the land uncontested. Some good, neutral, and others forged from the purest of evils.

Read, as Cairn brings the collective power of his newly obtained regiment to bear, reconciles with old friends, and discovers the nature of an ancient peril that has been lurking beneath his boots, all along.

Book 4 of Monarch is finally here!

After cementing itself as one of the most beloved progression fantasy web serials on Royal Road, the series is now on Kindle, Kindle Unlimited, and Audible (narrated by Luke Daniels). Perfect for fans of Bryce O'Connor, Luke Chmilenko, and Cale Plamann.

Still like the characters but far from the original themes

I still like the characters and care what happens to them. I don't think there was a single reset in this book and the fighting was with enemies I never heard of before this book and really had no investment in seeing defeated. Seemed overly complex and introspective to me. Looking forward to the next book which seems like it will be back to core characters at least, well maybe not the core enemy but at least not spending what feels like multiple chapters on negotiations.

Worst book of the series

I’ve enjoyed the series so far, but this book was disappointing. Very little plot progression. The book was mostly filler. The MC spends half the book lost in his own thoughts. He just can’t seemed to stay focused on the task at hand. The rest of the book feelers with people discussing their emotions and processing their trauma. All healthy stuff. That said it makes for a terrible fantasy adventure.

This doesn't feel like the same series that I loved for the first 2.5 books. Other reviewers put it better than I will but it felt like a filler arc filled with melodrama. Hoping the next book is better.

Exceptional writing

A compelling story full of intrigue and well developed characters. I would highly recommend not only this book, but the author's other series Double Blind
