Noble Charms: MM Fantasy Romance

Rate this book
A cozy, spicy, D&D-inspired mm romcom for fans of When Harry Met Sally.

Aria Charms is an uptight, small-town elven bard and Noble Yves St. Clair is a scandal-prone human who is twelfth in line for the throne. Their first meeting makes two things clear: they have nothing in common, and they could never be friends.

When their paths cross a second time, both are reeling from cheating exes and social scandals, and they decide to ally together to repair their now-sullied reputations. As the cozy autumn days turn to chilly winter weeks, this newfound kinship becomes flirty in a way neither expected. But indulging in these growing feelings could cost them their friendship and their fresh start in high society.

As they grapple with what they want from one another and from the rest of their lives, one truth remains: they could never be friends.

A magical elf and the descendant of a sun god and yet somehow the most relatable and deeply human characters ever. This book gave me all my favorite romance trope moments but they felt fresh and brand new because the characters feel like real people. Aria and Noble are complex and layered and had me laughing out loud one minute and then in my feelings the next.

As a reader, I am especially drawn to beautiful prose, and Charlie absolutely delivers in that area. My ARC ebook is full of bookmarks and highlights of lines that had me gasping or tearing up. Can’t wait to get a paperback to annotate.

The worldbuilding in Noble Charms is lush and expansive. The world felt lived in. I could see every setting in my mind, and it always felt like there was more interesting stuff just around the corner. I’m SO pleased that there will be more books set in this world!

"As the sky outside turned pink from the rising sun, Noble saw only Aria's beautiful eyes, and the stars, and, somehow, the source of magic itself. It was gold. Beautiful. A shining light that surrounded them both."

Follows the story of demigod Noble and Aria an elven bard through years and how they seems to find each other in different times.

Let me preface this by saying, this was a great debut novel, and Charlie Amen's gonna be on my radar from now on.

Take everything I wrote here with a grain of salt as I am a romance reader, not a romantasy/fantasy reader.

I think I went into this expecting different things, but I got a different set of things. So I was struggling wtih that aspect. It's not a bad thing though, but I was expecting fake dating cutesy romcom between a demigod and an elf.

As with me and fantasy books, I have to take my time reading the first few chapters to get into the story, but I was a bit confuse ngl. But that's a me problem. Once I understand the world system and the world, it got easier to read. I didn't care much of the story until 50% and it took probably more than 100 pages for me to get invested in this.

Both characters have depth to them. I love Aria, and I found Noble to be a bit too charming and trusting for my liking but they did complement each other in ways that I didn't expect. We get to see them making acquaintances with not-so-good first impressions, then we saw them grew up became adults and how life has not been good with them. When they became friends, they clicked. It's like right person, wrong time at first. But *cue in Invisible Strings by Taylor Swift lol.

I love seeing their journey individually and together, they were so wholesome and they were perfect for each other.

Noble Charms by Charlie Amen starts off with one of the strongest chapters I have read this year. I won’t spoil it, but I did tear up. The emotion conveyed and the grief being carried was palpable. Absolutely tugged on my heartstrings and captured me to want to read more.

There are very few novels that can really sink their hook into me by chapter one and Novel Charms did just that. The world was intriguing and the main character was adorable and lovable.

I also want to praise how this book is snap shots overtime but still continue to flow as a full story without any gaps or awkwardness. And how the growth of the characters were shown instead of just told. Charlie Amen has such a way of showing through their writing, she isn’t just telling you what is happening in New Heiroph but spinning and crafting the story so you are apart of it.

The chapters are cleverly broken into Aria and Nobles POVs and really does weave the story together in a magical and impactful way.

I think the best way to describe the book is at least the brick was kissed before it was thrown. The later chapters really did tear me apart, made me cry, and then slowly built me back together.

This is a STUNNING debut. A world I will revisit and think about often. This book made me so excited to read again! I couldn’t put it down and I was constantly counting down the minutes I could pick it back up again. Charlie Amen has made their way onto my auto-buy author with this book.

"Aria Charms is an uptight, small-town elven bard.

This was the sweetest story. Definitely right person, wrong time.

I loved almost everything about it. I say almost because I admit I feel a little greedy and wanted more of their time together enjoying their love, just a little more.

I loved how their story played out over time. From not really liking each other to friends to best friends to lovers. Noble and Aria always managed to find each other. It felt very serendipitous.

Aria was such a sweet character who loved love and wanted to be loved properly. Oh my heart.

Noble is very much the playboy but when he fell he fell hard, he just need a little help in communicating but he got there.

Oh my stars and the epilogue!!! I screamed it explained soooo much!!!

The world Charlie Amen wrote was described so perfect I could picture everything as if I was watching a movie.

I look forward to more of Noble Fates & Fortune

This was such a cozy sort of hate to friends to lovers book! As a huge Captive Prince fan, I'm more or less on the hunt for romantasy books and I'm so glad that more and more authors are going in this direction. Again, I had to get into the third person narration a bit, which took me a few pages, but I quickly got into it and into the story itself.

Both characters - Noble and Aria were so cute, but so different. I absolutely loved how Noble perceived Aria as a soft, but not weak elf and how he gave him comfort and support when he needed it most. Aria was such a sensitive soul, I absolutely loved his approach to love and how he hasn't changed over the years (the complete opposite of Noble at first).

I wish the ending had been a little longer and we had a chance to see how their relationship would have developed when they finally got their happy ending, but I was still very happy that they finally found their way back to each other despite the previous misunderstandings and years of being apart. 🥹

This novel was like soup. 1) it was cozy, 2) it was spicy, 3) I want more.

When Harry Met Sally is one of my favorite movies and I rewatch it every year. This adaptation took from the source material enough that you can locate it if you want to but it did borrow so much from it that it’s overwhelming. So many retellings can be so distracting that can’t get lost in the story. This one has the perfect amount of being faithful to the source material and expanding it.
Speaking of getting lost, I could revisit this world over and over again. It was so lovingly crafted and immersive that it colors the whole story. The world building is so atmospheric and whimsical. I can’t wait for the rest of the series so I can return to it.

From start to finish, Noble Charms is charming (heh), full of lovable characters and so, so much heart!!

The story spans several decades and seeing the two main characters grow and revolve around each other in such interesting and utterly human ways was a joy to read! The book never lost its soft and gentle core while being heartbreakingly raw and real in places. I found myself laughing and crying alongside the characters, found myself rooting and cheering for them all the same. I treasure each part of this book because the love that went into it drips from its every word.

It was a privilege to read this before its publication!!

These two were precious, a slow burn relationship over the course of a decade+ The initial dislike and disagreements eventually led Noble and Aria to realize they had more in common than they thought after almost 10 years. Their souls yearn for each other but they're both hopelessly stubborn about doing anything about it. I really enjoyed getting to see the development of their relationship over time. Charlie's debut will give you all the cute and cozy feels, think an MM fantasy version of When Harry Met Sally, and take you on a trip to get these two to realize they were meant to be. Great world building continued from Charlie's novella Hawk and March. 4.5⭐️ 1.5🌶

I think it was a good story, but I really expected an MM. It is, but Noble is having a lot of affairs with women and there is some explicit content (MF) that I did not expect.
Those who don't like the cheating trope, please don't pickup this book, your heart will be hurt.

This story is the perfect example of : right person, wrong time. It took a LONG (a bit too long for me) time for them to get even close to each other, going from enemies to friends to lovers. The ending was quite cute and endearing, but overall I think I had different expectations regarding this book. It was still an enjoyable read!

Him, said Aria’s soul. Ugh, said Aria’s mind.

this book, to me, is about relationships - platonic, familial, romantic. about standing up after a fall to try again, and about staying true to yourself even when the whole world is trying to make you live a lie. can you tell i loved it??

aria is my precious baby and noble is also my baby who i sometimes, ngl, wanted to strangle throughout this book. and honestly every side character could get their own book, they're all so interesting.

oh and the steam 😏 is steamyyyy. 10/10 nobody does it like charlie

this had that sweet romcom feel with a lush fantasy setting

I have been craving a good, fun read to get lost in and this one fully delivered! It was the perfect blend of a cozy fantasy world and a protagonist trying to chase his dreams and being knocked down at every turn. The conflict never felt forced and Aria’s struggle with being an adame was heartbreaking. The dynamic between Aria and Noble was entertaining immediately from the beginning. I could read another 300 pages of these two just arguing with each other

Soft DNF.

I didn’t want to leave a star rating because I only got 57% of the way through, but this book unfortunately wasn’t for me. The main characters spend most of the time with other people (explicitly) and at 57% they’re still dating and having sex with other people. Again, it’s not for me, but that’s just a personal preference.

The writing was lovely and I enjoyed the characters. Maybe I’ll pick the book up again at a later date.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book! The setting was so fun and the story so sweet! I gave it four stars because I wanted more 😭 I wish there was a touch more depth or that some scenes were on page instead of talked about later, otherwise it would have been five stars! Will definitely be reading the next one 🫶🏻

I loved the world-building in this one and the beautiful writing style. The reason why I'm not giving this a five-star review is because I could not fully connect to both MCs and their romance. That is of course a very personal preference and has nothing to do with the quality of the writing. Will definitely try more by this author.

Pining! I loved this. It had what I liked of Hawk & March, but the length to make it even more wonderful. One of my favourite reads of the year.

Definitely will be keeping Charlie Amen on my radar.

P.S. I hate book comps, but I think fans of R. Cooper's Suitable Verse would like this one (if you don't, boo!)

Noble Charms is a delightful read. Charlie did a wonderful job of balancing all of the cozy and cute moments with really heartfelt and emotional character arcs that managed to be realistic, even in such a magical world. The setting is rich and feels lived in; and the spice was impactful and well-earned! I can't wait to explore more of this world!

Noble is the most insufferable book character that I've ever came across. Somehow made it to page 59 and I just cannot force myself to continue.
