Ai Yazawa (Japanese: 矢沢あい, Yazawa Ai) is a Japanese manga author and illustrator. Her pen name comes from singer Eikichi Yazawa, of whom she is a fan. Yazawa started her comics career in 1985. She specialises in shojo manga (girls' comics). Most of her works have been serialised in the magazines 'Ribon', 'Cookie' and 'Zipper'. Yazawa's stories focus on young, often rebellious women and their relationships. The characters are always very stylish, and Yazawa herself is known for her sense of fashion. (She even attended a fashion school for some time after high school.) Among her most famous manga are Tenshi Nanka Ja Nai (I'm No Angel, 1992–1995), Neighborhood Story (1995-1998), Paradise Kiss (1999-2004), and Nana (2000-2009), the latter awarded a Shogakukan Manga Award in 2003. Some of these works have been adapted into anime and live action movies.
Finally snagged one of these beauties. I wish i could say i read japanese but nope, it’s just me and my translation app against the world. So it’s gonna be a lil slow adventure:’)
A bit boring to read because there isn’t much interesting material to find out, just a lot of curiosities and silly stuff. Btw the design is always top notch and it is a must for every die-hard Yazawa lover. Finding out that Yazawa loves Takumi can be a bit of a shock, but honestly I get it and it casts a new light on him. Takumi, just like all the other characters, isn’t only evil (just like others aren’t only good), all the characters are very human and they have some inherited contradictions in their attitude and behaviour. Nana isn’t a simplistic shojo and that is what I love most about it 🖤
I was expecting something different from this special number, a bit less "silly stuff" and more a behind the scenes of the manga. Nevertheless, it was pleasant to read, but nothing exceptional.
This was a fabulous manga series. The characters were really in-depth and the plot was superbly entertaining. I love the two Nana's and how their stories intermix.
