Those gorgeous boys, Elliot and Jack, are back in action in their second romantic adventure.
Their investigation business gets its first paying customer: a suburban housewife wants to know if her daughter is a witch. The answer isn't rocket science.
Elliot at least understands the fundamentals of rocket science. He knows slightly less about sex, but his long-time love (but only new lover) Jack is giving him a thorough grounding in that too.
Now, if only they can keep their mouths shut, not walk into danger again, save the day, and actually get paid, they'll be doing well.
NM Harris is the pen name under which Narrelle M Harris writes erotic fiction. In her erotic romance, Narrelle writes both straight and queer relationships.
The Secret Agents, Secret Lives series is her first, about Masterspy Phillip Marsden and his lover, Agent Martine Dubois.
Her second series, Talbott and Burns, is about two devil-may-care young men who engage in hijinks, investigate odd goings on in Melbourne, and love each other passionately.

I had high hopes for this book after reading and enjoying the first book in the series, but unfortunately it really didn't live up to the promise of Homecoming. I also felt that was a bit of a discrepancy between the story described in the Goodreads summary versus what the story actually was.
This book was heavy on sex but light on mystery. While the first story did a good job of balancing these two elements, I felt that A Paying Client put too much emphasis on sexytimes, at the expense of having a satisfying plot. I think I could have forgiven this if the sex seemed to be doing more to advance the characterization or the relationship, but although this is decent quality erotica, it was pretty generic and didn't help me understand Jack and Elliot as individuals or as a couple. From the blurb, I was hoping for more of the awkwardness and figuring things out with a new partner.
The central mystery felt very abrupt and overall made me pretty uncomfortable. I was not at all happy with Elliot's behavior in the situation - - and was left feeling unsatisfied with the resolution. I think this had the potential to be a really interesting and compelling mystery, given more time and space to address the issues that came up. The daughter was left in a pretty precarious situation, but it didn't seem as though this and other consequences of the plot events were given enough weight in the story.
I would be willing to give this series another chance, but A Paying Client just didn't work for me.
This book was supplied to me by the author under the DBML scheme in return for an unbiased review.
In a review of a previous book by this author, I said that I had a big problem because the book was too short. Well, the problem has just gotten bigger. This book is every bit as enjoyable as its predecessor and is still too short! Please N. M. Harris, write more!
The characters are as charming and credible as before - you really can believe that they might be living next door to you... and if they were then they would be great fun as neighbours. (Yes, even in the not so sunny Highlands of Scotland I can believe in these Australians!). The situations in which they find themselves make me wince in sympathy but also laugh out loud. The writing is still spare, elegant and a delight to read and then re-read. And the sex scenes are simultaneously erotic and engaging, such a difficult thing to achieve.
Buy this book - you will only be disappointed that it isn't longer and more developed.
The paying client. Written by Marion kuschelbooks.com This book was provided to me for free by the author in exchange for an honest review. It should be the first case of Elliot Talbott and Jack Burns, now engaged to finally earn money with their business. And I think they really do a great job although their client isn’t of the same opinion *lol*. I don’t want to tell more for not spoiling the story. But it’s really funny and great to read. It’s a-don’t-take-life-and-everything-in-it-so-seriously kind of story. So if you’re expecting a real mysterious detective or ghost story I’ve to disappoint you. But if you want a short fun read about two really lovely men I can only recommend the story.
Follows directly after Homecoming. Both Jack and Elliot have fallen into domestic bliss and Elliot has a job lined up in their joint new venture. The job seems a simple one but when the two go to investigate Elliot is impassioned about the findings. The investigation gets away from them but is somewhat successful.
Interesting installment in the series and it was nice getting to revisit the two under different circumstances. Elliot kind of rubbed me the wrong way and I didn't like how he stuck his foot in other's business even if he was kind of hired to do so.

I received a free copy of this book for an honest review. I loved getting to ready more about Elliot an Jack. Although this book is more of a short story, it had pretty well developed characters. I particularly liked the teenage girl who called the mom that was mad at her "badass" and "alright." That was cool as it showed a real relationship between them rather than playing to what could have been a stereotyped response of nastiness to a parents behaving as the mom did. Well done!
Due to the length, it would probably make sense to put Homecoming and A Paying Client as one book to give it a bit more meat. I can't wait to read more of their adventures!
A month has gone by and finally, Elliot and Jack have their first paying client lined up. After living through the horrors of driving to the suburbs, Elliot quickly solves the mystery only to be confronted with the fact that people sometimes just don't want to hear the truth. As usual, Jack steps in save Elliot from total mayhem. Ms. Harris' writing is at it's usual high level. A great short story.
I was given a free one in exchange for an honest review. I liked her writing so much, I am buying her other stories. I hope they are as funny and well written.

I really like the premise of these books but they are really too short. The investigations last maybe a couple of pages. The books aren't really developing the relationship between the 2 main MCs.
You just start to get into the story and its finished. Cute vinettes but need to be longer.
This is the second ebook that I received from the author, Narrelle M. Harris in exchange for an honest review.
I personally did not feel that the second Talbott and Burns story was as good as the first. It was a little too short for their to be any in depth involvement from the reader. By the time it had reached it's stride, it was pretty much over. I know I would have enjoyed it more if it had been longer.
Still, Talbott & Burns are great characters. I really do wish Narrelle would do a full length novel using them.
As before, male/male romance and erotica. Do not like/Do not read.
I have loved this second story just as much as the first and most certainly would love to read more about Jack, Elliot and their beautiful city. The style keeps on being engaging and the secondary characters are well fleshed out too. I wholeheartedly recommend this series!
