Britannia Hunts is the next thrilling novel of The Britannia Series, continuing the events of the award-winning alternate history books, Britannia Rises and Britannia Strikes.
King Alfred is back in charge and Outpost is his focus. Leo is hiding away, struggling to make a decision about his future after the failure at Nampo, which is a major concern for his brother, Chris. Meanwhile, the Asian Coalition is suspicious about the circumstances and Genghis is on the hunt for clues. Jamie Bayston is continuing his training with Ed MacLoughlin in England. Part of that training involves helping the Republican movement gain intelligence and momentum. And also members. All three are activities which can draw unwanted attention. With Leo missing, his team try to continue his work. They have identified Bayston and MacLoughlin as key threats within the Republican ranks. And they always have plans to eliminate threats. In Nepal, Pearl and the Dayak monks are trying to rebuild under the nose of the East India Company. But with so many losses, and so many people in pain, it looks like an impossible task. Until an opportunity appears…in the form of revenge. It’s something the Dayak would never have considered. But that was before. This is now. Trevor Layttle is living peacefully in Italy, happy to have left his previous life, and the world of espionage, in the past. However, the past never really stays there, not with his history. And that of the woman he loves. This is Russell Dumper's fourth novel and the third in The Britannia Series. The first book, Britannia Rises, won awards for Debut Author, Thriller Novel and Historical Novel. The second has been receiving rave reviews. His standalone novel, The Hero Virus, also won an award for Best Sci-Fi novel. He still lives in East England, with his wife and two sons. He is still working hard on the rest of this highly acclaimed and exciting series.
Britannia Hunts is book 3 in the Britannia series. If you’re a fan of anything altrnate history, action packed, political warfare, kill or be killed type reads then this one will be right up your street. Russel has got a way of telling a story where it feels like you’re doing a jigsaw puzzle. Each chapter you read you pick up a little piece of the story and by the end of the book you step back and you’re looking at another part of the story that’s been built. Britannia Hunts in particular builds more of the political ins and outs and a little less of the action packet scenarios that came with the first two books. You’re also getting the aftermath of book 2 and how everyone is moving forward with the outcome of that situation. This one is much more politically motivated and intelligence based plus you go through all the little details that create the bigger picture. Leo’s steps, Bayston and MacLoughlin playing their part and Pearl literally trying to do the impossible of rebuilding what’s left. Everyone working on little missions trying to prepare themselves for the next inevitable steps. It’s like reading a 007 book. I thoroughly enjoyed it and I honestly can’t wait to see how this ends. It feels like there’s a lot riding on the outcome of this and Russel is really giving us all the little details in preparation for the result. Roll on book 4 because I can’t wait 🙌
A thriller set in an alternate history? Yes please.
It's the third installment in the Britannia Series. A story of spies, government agencies, politics and worldwide action set in a world parallel to ours, an alternate history leading to a scary alternate future.
Following events in BRITANNIA RISES and BRITANNIA STRIKES comes the third book in this explosive series, BRITANNIA HUNTS.
The cast of characters is now huge and thankfully there's a cast list at the beginning to help readers keep track. We'll all have our favourites and it's always a worry whether they will make it to the end of the book as we've seen some big characters come and go in the previous volumes. The most relatable is Jamie Bayston who has found himself on the run and helping the resistance in the fight against the evil Empire.
The plot moves swiftly, taking in multiple viewpoints with constant changes in location, and there is a lot more political intrigue and maneuvering and less action in this book, as the plot progresses towards the next volume. There are still action sequences in Britannia Hunts with a couple of particularly stand-out sequences that had me on the edge of my seat.
I do advise reading the books in order or it will be difficult to keep track of what is going on. For fans of the first two this is a must read.
It's very much plot-led which keeps things fast-paced with the only downside being that locations often aren't fleshed out or we don't spend long enough in one place, but it's a minor quibble as there are a lot of interesting characters and there's a good amount of mystery and intrigue to go along with the action.
It's an amazing accomplishment to have a series like this from an independent author and I'm already looking forward to where the story goes next as there are some major revelations towards the end of this book.
I honestly flew through this one. After picking it up, I was straight back into the world of the Britannia series, and the little recap at the beginning was perfect. It gave me just enough of a reminder of what had happened previously. And then it just flows. The pacing was so easy to get into, and I found myself completely caught up in the story. I read the whole thing in less than 24 hours over two sittings, which pretty much says it all! I particularly loved the way the story is structured. There are so many little twists and turns along the way, and the ending of each chapter feels like its own mini cliffhanger. Just when you think you're about to get the answer you've been waiting for, you jump to what someone else is doing... and then you're left desperate to get back to that storyline. It kept me turning the pages because I constantly needed to know what happened next. There's also something I really enjoy about returning to a series and getting that feeling of familiarity with the characters and the world. It was so easy to slip straight back into the story, and I loved seeing everything continue to unfold. Definitely one of those books where you tell yourself "just one more chapter" and suddenly you've read half the book and can't keep your eyes open.
Britannia Hunts is the third in a series of thrillers by this author. I have found that from page one, there is something about his writing style that commands the reader's attention. The atmosphere and tension are there, and you know you're going to be reading an action packed thriller.
I would say that if you haven't read the previous books, you might be a little bit confused, and you need to follow the story closely to keep track of what's going on, but it's worth it. The characters are interesting and well developed, and at times there's a sprinkle of humour that lightens the mood.
If I had to pick something that this series reminds me of, I would say Larsson's Millennium Trilogy, not in terms of the story, characters or setting, but in a sense of being a good escape, and a series I could go back to, if I want some wholesome thrillers to sink my bookish teeth into.
If you enjoy political thrillers and espionage, and you haven't read this series yet, add it to your TBR. Thank you to the author for my ARC copy.
“They don't deserve your protection or allegiance. They deserve nothing from you.” 📚 Britannia Hunts is the third book in the Britannia series and, although it's not my usual genre, I've really enjoyed this series!
Yes, it's complicated, and there are a lot (and I mean a lot) of characters, but as soon as I started reading, I soon remembered them all – well, mostly! 😂 Each location brings its own set of characters and seemingly separate stories, but when you start to read between the lines, you realise that everyone has their own agenda, which ultimately leads to a much bigger picture. 🕵️♀️
⚡ Fast-paced, as we jump from England to Nepal, Italy to America and beyond, this alternate, parallel world to our own could be frighteningly accurate, considering the way the world is right now. 🌍 The story is political, violent, intriguing and addictive. Russell's writing is exceptional and, even when I got lost in the plot, his skill at putting words on the page just kept me reading. ✍️ There are lots of little cheeky and humorous snippets that had me giggling, and I have to disagree with the PG Tips comment – it's the best tea there is! ☕😂
I'd recommend reading the series in order, otherwise you'll get totally lost! 🤯 But if this is your genre, give it a go and let me know what you think. 📖💬
Thank you to the author for the free copy of Britannia Hunts. All thoughts are entirely my own. 💖
Plenty of intrigue and action, a whole cast of characters and numerous locations across the world keep this suspenseful thriller moving along nicely.
Royalty, rebellion, religion, politics, power and plans all come together to form a great adventure and addition to the Britannia series - the only problem is that now I have to wait for the next one…!
I’ve read the other books in the Britannia series, so I was looking forward to carrying on with this one! There’s a lot going on, with different characters and storylines taking us from England to Nepal and Italy, but it all comes together really well. I’ve really enjoyed the mix of alternate history, action and espionage throughout this series, and by this point I’m definitely invested in the characters and what happens to them! I wouldn’t recommend starting here as there’s a lot of backstory from the previous books, but if you’ve already read those, this is another enjoyable addition to the series.
This is the third installment in the Britannia series, and it is packed with action, danger, love, and loss. It proves that the past can never truly be left behind. There are a lot of characters in this story, but the helpful character index makes it easy to keep track of everyone. Each character plays an important role, and despite the large cast, they all have distinct personalities that make them easy to connect with and remember. Each chapter takes the reader to a different location, creating a real sense of adventure and keeping the story fresh and engaging. This is another thrilling addition to the series, and I really appreciate the extensive research that must have gone into writing it. I thoroughly enjoyed the blend of history, suspense, and dark storytelling, and I would highly recommend it to fans of historical thrillers.
This is the third book in the Britannia series. It is full of action and conflict. With some brutal parts. I loved the character index at the front which I did use often as there are a lot of characters within the story. Spread over different locations. You can tell how much research has gone in to the writing.
