Fugitives from the law, Brennan will need all the survival skills Mikey learned in Terrenos to stay alive. But something has followed Mikey back, that's strong enough to tear the brothers apart.
Mikey & Brennan are still on the run from the human authorities, but more importantly, they're on the run from some crazy shit from Terrenos, as well.
A cool side story happening - their mom is starting to put two and two together and coming up with a pregnant daughter-in-law with wings from another dimension. Everything about that sentence gets me excited for the next volume!
I love Brennan. He's such a great character and such a good brother. But I love Mikey because he's so sketchy that I can never quite figure out what side he's actually on. Is he bad pretending to be good? Or is he good pretending to be bad pretending to be good? Or is he bad trying to be good, pretending to be good but still kind of bad? I don't know!
This is a really good story. <--and I never would have found it without my friends here on Goodreads.
I gave first volume 5 stars more for potential and interesting premise than current quality but it's not living up to it.Not really bad but story hasn't griped me yet and I don't care for any of the characters. That being said I do plan to continue the series since I still believe it can shape up to be really good.
This was a bit a of whirlwind. It seemed like I flew through it, but I didn't get much substance if that makes sense. I loved what we got, but I think it just continued story lines from the first volume without much else going on. I do love seeing the parents storyline, and I hope it becomes a bigger part as the series goes along. I'm invested for sure, so we'll see what comes with the third volume!
This series is absolutely fantastic. Great art and coloring. Amazing story. I can't wait to see where it's headed. Mikey and Brennan continue their hunt for the wizards from Terranos, and we learn some more of the secrets Mikey is keeping.
The adventure continues. Art remains strong. Story ok though feeding parents still a drag. Needs to begin explaining why Mikey is inhabited by the Dark Lord. I'll keep going.
Man oh man, it's hard to find someone to root for in this series.
Everyone seems like a dick. Everyone who is "good" has some evil plotting behind them. The glimpses into the past, about Mikey growing up, is real interesting. I also still love the art, I think it's solid as hell.
However the story feels all over the place. One second they're heading out to hunt. Next they're near a small town. The brothers together feel "okay" I never feel the real love of brothers there. The parents, which were great in the last volume, are barely here now.
It's a fun entertaining read but everytime I finish I can't help but feel "man this could be amazing" but I'll probably check out volume 3 regardless.
Reread: 14/6/21 The story continues with Mikey and Brennan on the run and after defeating Ward they encounter a bear and defeat it meanwhile the mages send some Diviner to attack them while they are trying to cure an injury that Brennan attained while they were trying to get "Blade of the forever fields". And the bulk of the volume is about Mikey and Brennan trying to fight this Diviner and through the course of the volume we learn who it is and what its purpose is and it shows the true nature of the Nevermind and what its doing to Mikey. Its a battle between Mikey and Diviner and Nevermind. What will happen? Who will survive? What choices will Brennan make? And whats going on with Rya? Great volume and continues the world building and sheds light on the nature of threats from Terrenos and showcases a new yet familial side of Mikey and his intentions and the art gets better, especially the flashback scenes on terrenos and epic things are coming! ___________________________________________________________________________ This book was another amazing one, as Brennan and Mikey continue they have to first find the blades of Field of Forever and they do kinda find it in some shop and to get it, they have to steal it and the girl owner Becca comes in with a gun while they are fighting, Mikey jumps at her and the gun goess of and hits Brennan. Meanwhile two other mages sent a DIVINER to go after them and it does and transforms the area outside the shop to well something resembling Terrenos and in a flashback we see them fight some Diviners, and Rook telling Mickey to never fight Diviners and in present well he does. Its a really cool fight and while they are fighting, we learn of the Diviners motivations and it cures Brennan and tells him about the Nevermind infecting Mikey and its a battle inside of it, and the Diviner wants to cleanse Mickey of it and as it does, it seems to kill him when it find Mickey let the Nevermind infect him and to save his brother, Brennan jumped in and killed the Diviner. Its an epic battle between the two and as their quest continues and we find out about the evil intentions of Nevermind.
This volume was good in the sense it spends no time wasting anything well and explores their quest and does a good job of bouncing back between the past and the present and giving the appropriate backstories to understand the context of the present. We learn more about Mikey and also Rya has some cool escape and she and her mother-in-law finally meet which was hilarious and its cool to see Wendy being an investigator. The art here just gets better and there are scenes in Terrenos which are so detailed! The art makes this book reading a worthwhile experience!

The second volume doesn't feel as strong as the first, but it's still a rollicking story, I want to know where it's going from here. Have I figured out a very important, later story twist? Probably. Still will be fun to watch it unfold (and the art is magnificent fun).
Good enough for a second volume. Nothing new was really introduced...mostly just treading water and solidifying the rules of the story.
The art and coloring are spectacular (again) and even though the story itself didn't blow me out of the water the action was top notch and made for a pretty right on way to spend 30 minutes.
This is a fantasy comic series, so naturally I love it. The back-and-forth storytelling keeps me completed invested, and I can't wait to see the mystery unravel in future volumes. Even though the art isn't necessarily my favorite style, the action sequences are so on point. I also appreciate the sibling relationship dynamic that was present in this particular volume, and hope to see more of it in the next installment.
4.5 stars A strong continuation from Vol. 1. I wish thre were more flashbacks to Mikey's time in Terrenos, but what ones there are are there for good reasons. And that's better than too many. I like that we get a little more time into what Sarah's doing (the mother.) I feel like all she did in volume 1 was ignore the reality of the situation without the writing actually delving into that. In this, she becomes a little more involved. Dad Aaron takes more of a backseat this round, while Brennan becomes somewhat of a hero.
Storyline wise, not much is accomplished in this arc. But that doesn't mean that what is there doesn't pack a punch. The action and mystery ramps up a bit more with less exposition, which altogether, makes for a much more enthralling tale than the first.
An amazing follow up collection to the first volume. Any Fantasy lover should really check out this series. Williamson's story of a boy, now man, being stuck in a mystical world, encountering surreal, and often frighteningly demonic creatures while wielding incredible sorcerous powers is a pure adrenaline rush here. All the while, his family searches for a lost son through the investigation of his written journals. Williamson's pacing is perfect and incredibly riveting. The artwork by Bressan is breathtaking, some of the best I've ever seen in graphic novel form. And Lucas' brilliant color palette, just wow. Looking forward to the next volume.
While still readable and fairly-enjoyable, this second volume is considerably weaker and less intriguing than the first.
What started as an interesting twist on the fantasy genre has become more of a by-the-numbers (and convoluted) mess, with little new information gained or growth for the characters.
A dejected 3-stars for this; here's hoping the title turns back around for Volume 3!
Nowhere near as revolutionary and exciting as the first volume; in fact, a little predictable, especially as the volume moved on. The artwork is still amazing however, and that's more than worth sticking around for. Hopefully the story moves into more dangerous territory rather than sticking with the usual fantasy tropes, especially considering it's a series that tries to turn the usual tropes on their collective head.
I wasn’t as captivated by this follow up volume, the Mikey and Brennan roadshow wasn’t as compelling as the missing child twists and turns of the first volume and the preggers wingèd lady smacked just a little too hard of Saga.
Another perfect issue of Birthright!! Another dang cliffhanger ending that makes me SO ANXIOUS for the next issue!!!!

I'm not even kidding or exaggerating.... This is THE BEST comic book on the stands right now!!!!!

After a 2 month break, I could not wait for this book!! This issue drags you right back into the story so well that you feel like part of it. There are still so many questions and I'm still not sure who to be rooting for, a fact that would normally infuriate me at this point but for some reason just draws me in even more. This issue also gives us a glimpse of the God King Lore in a glorious 2 page spread, and yes he is terrifying!! EVERYONE should be reading this comic!!
Its like Locke & Key on steroids. Also, this is finally a graphic novel that displays interesting alien fantasy creatures. As opposed to mundane background monsters with no visual swag. No more issues currently out. I am disappoint.
Good recommend there booooogie.....

This issue gave me some Y: The Last Man vibes with a Saga type surprise ending.. Good stuff.
What a ride! Courage and brotherhood continues to be tested as the Rhodes family grapple with their long lost son . In the meantime, the fantasy world continues in its subversion of earth.
I love this series! It's like Conan meets Dungeons & Dragons. It left a hell of a cliffhanger at the end of the book, and it's so making me look forward to reading volume 3 when it finally comes out!
Such an intriguing series. I am really loving it. The characters are so interesting. I am really enjoying the time jumping back and forth. It's pulling me more and more into the story.
After the first volume, I wouldn't have gone out and searched for this, but since I had already gotten it, I read it, in one train ride (~30 minutes).
It's a real quick read, and there's some fun strands of plot coming together -- Mikey's mom coming around to empathizing with him and then discovering his pregnant, fantasy-world mate promises a lot, not least of which is more role for female characters.
But I'm not seeing a lot to drag me on right now, as compared to some of the truly outstanding work out there.
Well, this is just tóó exciting!! Love everything about this... the characters.. the tense story.. the artwork... Everybody's on edge, on a war path, or on a rescue mission.... Just keep it comin' like this!!
