The chance of a lifetime... When Sophie Henshall answers an advertisement in the The Lady to be the live-in Nanny for a New York family, she could never have known just how much her world was about to change.
Luxury beyond her wildest dreams...
Transported to the Big Apple and thrown into a glamorous world of palatial homes, designer clothes and fast cars, Sophie feels out of her depth and yet excited at what the future holds.
Can you keep a secret...
Her hosts are flirtatious, irresistibly attractive and Sophie cannot resist the temptations that they put in her way. But all is not as it seems, and the mysterious Parkers have secrets to share.
I'm not crazy about the story, but I'm going to give this 3 stars because Jenna Ellis can seriously write. The sexual tension was so intense and done so well. I couldn't tear my eyes from the pages.
The beginning starts with Sophie dancing at a club. Her dancing makes you want to be her... And then you don't want to be her because of her sexual cravings. I wanted to tell her... 'What the hell are you thinking?'
When she gets a new job in New York, she leaves everything behind to work as a nanny for a wealthy couple. A lot of strange things happen between them.
Again, I wasn't blown away by the story. There's a lot of oddness and some mystery that just didn't do it for me. I even took about a 4 week break from the book because I didn't like the plot. But I got back into it, and the strange sex scenes were worth it.
I picked this up at the library based on the description, which indicated this was a mystery. Not even close. The description said Sophie Henshaw is a young British woman who accepts a job as a nanny for a wealthy New York Couple. But the couple hold secrets which could threaten everything she knows-that kind of thing (not exact wording). This is really a book meant for the 50 shades of Gray audience or erotica light. The writer is a good writer so I decided to finish the book. I liked: the descriptions of living a wealthy life. I enjoyed the writer's describing the art work, the sailboat, the beautiful views, the nightclubs, the designer clothes.
I didn't like: Everything else. The basic story is that Sophie is kind of drifting alone in Manchester, England and interviews for a job as a nanny to a wealthy couple Edward and Marnie (the name Edward is everywhere). When she arrives she is whisked away in a limo to a secluded estate only to find the children are away at camp and won't return for a period of time. She first meets the handsome Edward, who surprises her by inviting her to a club, sending her a beautiful dress and having a makeup and hair artist 'transform' for. She is still reeling from that when she meets the beautiful Marnie who treats her to some naughty lingerie and asks her to model for a photo shoot.
The couple wine, dine and sexually seduce Sophie while no mention is made of the children, wages, duties, or much of anything. Of course, she falls in love with the handsome Edward and equally becomes entralled with Marnie. I won't reveal the secret since it is incredibly lame considering the looks and wealth of the people involved. There is a sub plot with a journalist who wants to meet Sophie with information about the couple, and this could have been interesting but ends up amounting to nothing. I also wondered why the key sex scene was told in flashback and not given the details the other scenes were. I would not recommend unless you are a fan of light erotica, and I didn't even find the erotica all that interesting. Giving 2 stars because I liked the earlier descriptions.
Well I am surprised my small town library stocked this book- * clutches pearls*. Innocent old me picked it up thinking would be some kind of intriguing, thriller type mystery book. Well no. Possibly should have checked out the odd review first as now I am dreading facing the grey haired librarian and handing it back in. I can possibly never face the library again after I skipped out holding this " erotica".
Joking aside this book is terrible. She basically knocks one out at any opportunity and innocently sleeps with both husband and wife, acting as shocked as a nun in a Blackpool strip club when they demand a threesome. She only finds it slightly odd having being hired as a nanny that no kids are anywhere to be seen for about a week. However having massive vibrators delivered to her door or accidentally ending up in nipple tassels and a thong casually doing a strip tease for the lady of the house doesn't even cause her to blink.
I did finish this book as I wanted to know what the damn secret was.

What an absolute shame that I wasn't aware that this book wasn't a stand-alone but in fact part of a series. What a shame that it took 60% of the book before things got good, started running smoothly, made it a read that kept you wanting. What a shame that it is in fact slightly clichéd and cheesy instead of hot and haunting. And there is nothing worse than a heroine that you dislike.
Sophie Henshaw is a character in which you see through straight away, the naivety, the ridiculousness, the boringness. To me she ruined the book, to me the ending with her running into a second book sounds like just maybe the negatives that grate on you from her may be replaced by a new confidence that is not arrogance and a head of knowledge that would not make the most obvious of things so well hidden.
I want to rate this book high, but I can't. I can't take away the arrogant confidence of the heroine, the blatantly obvious answers to the plot, and the cringe worthy cliched times that you read about. The end 40% of the book was completely different. The vibe, the flow and the honesty. This makes me want to read the second book, this makes me want to recommend the book to people. But I can't stop thinking that's 40% is just not good enough.
Feeling stifled by all that life has to offer in Britain, Sophie jumps at the chance to go and nanny for a couple in America. The position requires complete discretion as the couple demand privacy.
The house is very luxurious . Whilst she is waiting for the boys to arrive Sophie has free time to enjoy all the house and it's surrounding area has to offer..The couple take her on various trips and work associated events and expose her to the glamour of photoshoots and exhibitions. They are a very sensual couple.
I hadn't realised this was an erotica book when I requested it- and it's really not my usual genre. I did wonder where the storyline was going and just what secrets were about to be unearthed.
I just love it when I think I'm picking up a thriller and it turns out to be porn. I mean, if it's your thing...you do you. But there needs to be at least SOME hint of what I'm getting before I start reading, be it the book jacket summary, title, cover even, etc. Also, the protagonist could think of nothing other than sex to begin with. (Really? Getting jealous of the people on the airplane because they were doing it and she wasn't....wut?). Even without that, the protagonist clearly gets taken advantage of and then seems happy about it at the end. I flipped to later pages, got an idea of what happened, and just...yeah, no thanks.
On a positive note, this is one of my favorite covers in recent book history. The color combo and the elegant fonts? Love.
I initially picked this one up at my local library intrigued by the cover and description of an English girl who gets hired to nanny the children of a private and incredibly wealthy family in the U.S.
While I enjoyed the light erotica (after reading a few chapters to realize the tone of the book), I felt the pacing of the story was just too slow. I found myself being very frustrated with Sophie's naivety - for me the big 'secret', the real reason she was hired by the Parkers, was just so glaringly obvious. More than 300 pages in the book when she finally realizes! While I knew exactly where the story was heading, Sophie's lack of intuition and frankly common sense made it a frustrating read at times. But then again, I guess that is her character - feeling adrift in life and unsure of herself, unable to fully trust her own instinct.
Overall I enjoyed the description of the upstate N.Y. location and the author's ability to create serious sexual tension between the characters. The ending I felt was rushed and didn't understand why the most pivotal sex scenes in the book were glossed over and told as a flashback instead of in the moment. But I wonder if this is a tactic to make the reader feel like Sophie - intensely wrapped up in the moment and then suddenly it's just gone, and we are left with the confusion and hunger Sophie feels. Like everything is just "a little secret." I would be curious to read a sequel.

Sophie is a young impressionable girl who takes a chance on wanting to escape from her mundane life in Manchester to end up as a nanny in New York City for a super Rich elusive couple - The Parkers and then the rest of the story plays out very predictably.
I think what I don’t really like is Sophie as a character and feel her will is just not strong enough to behave in a certain way.
Also didn’t like how it ended . Good parts are the characters of the Parkers , Edward and Marnie , contrasting couple very much in love with each other. They sort of remain mysterious till the end.
I will start this review off by saying I enjoy books taking place in a more luxurious setting of New York, so in a way I was somewhat biased. I finished this is one day because I could not put the book down. Jenna Ellis' writing captures the perfect amount of detail to feel you are the character herself going through these ordeals. Additionally, I found the more mature parts tasteful compared to some other risqué reads that are popular. The ending is what really made me love this book, because even though I had an idea of what it could be, how it is written was much better.
I really liked this book. It was along the lines of 50 Shades of Gray but so much better, in my opinion. I loved the writing style! My husband is not a book reader. He reads his daily paper and sports stuff. I just knew he would like this book (wonder why *wink*). I had him read a section of the steamy parts and he agreed to read it. He likes it although he is on page 26 and I have completed 2 full books since he started.
Didn't like the character or the story much. A naive girl from manchester would not react to the stuff that happens to her in the way she does. Too much 'navel gazing' and trying to get into people's heads to make sense of it all, making the story too padded. Lots of repetitive writing (similar to the lip-biting stuff in 50 Shades) and much cliché. Quite liked the twist at the end though. Couldn't identify with any of the characters and didn't care about them either.
I purchased this book from a library sale based on the description on the back of the book. An English nanny takes up a position for a wealthy US couple, to take care of their two sons.
The story is something else entirely. I didn't realise the novel was light erotica, but I set any expectations aside and accepted the story for what it was. For its genre, it is written well and I believe it delivered a nice little twist at the end.
I only finished reading this book because I wanted to know what the "little secret" was.
It was easy to see a mile away what was going on and the journey to get there was filled with an empty storyline. The sexual/sensual scenes through out the book is the only thing this book had going for it and at times they got to be a bit cringy
Why is the journalist even in the story? There was no point to him being in the novel at all... what did I read? It had one or two steamy-ish encounters but nothing interesting. It felt initially like it was going to be fun, and there's so much more the author could have done in the story but didn't. Overall a disappointment.
I just randomly picked up this book at the library. This book kept my interest and I kept wanting to read the next chapter The plot was different but at the same time, parts felt familiar. Reminded me of 50 Shades of Grey. This appeared to be the author's first book but the ending leads you to believe there could be follow up stories the the same character.
I thought this was going to be a mystery … but found out pretty quickly it wasn’t. It was a book that kept you in suspense though - wondering how it was going to end. I think I read it in about 3 days.
Didn’t like how descriptive it was, but I liked the mystery aspect and thought it was very fast paced which I liked. Felt like they ran out of time tho at the end,, very detailed at the start and the last scenes with the Parker’s seemed abit rushed over
DNF'D 30 pages in. Award for STUPIDEST beginning goes to this book. I really want to just know what her secret was but honestly not worth my time. NEXT.
There is no doubt about it. Jenna Ellis is one hell of a writer. She has a very sleek and smooth writing style with witty humour added here and there for good measure, and I found myself enjoying reading the way in which the author chose to put her sentences together. I know it sounds odd, and probably like such a simple thing, but they were so pleasing and made my reading of Our Little Secret a real treat.
In terms of the plot, I had a few issues. I felt as if I were waiting for almost more than half of the novel to figure out what exactly was going on with Sophie and her new strange and mysterious circumstances in the luxurious home of the Parkers. If the author had been hoping to achieve some serious suspense for the reader by doing this, then I cannot fault her for achieving exactly that, but for me, I felt like the mystery and the secrets behind the Parkers were drawn out for far too long. I love a touch of mystery, don't get me wrong, but I think it came to a point where I was growing frustrated with myself for not being able to pinpoint exactly what was going on.
Jenna, when the plot began to grow deliciously steamy, was a complete pro it appeared. Her descriptions were absolutely fantastic, drawing me further into the strange goings-on within the Parker household and completely mystifying me at the same time. It was clear that the Parkers, who had hired Sophie as their live-in nanny, were not your everyday couple. They were glamorous, lived an extraordinarily luxurious life and it was all completely brand new to Sophie, and such a blatant contrast to the world which she'd left behind. I couldn't blame Sophie at all for being so awe-struck once she'd arrived at the Parkers' home, because I would have been staring with wide eyes in exactly the same way. Again, Jenna's brilliant use of imagery came into play here, creating a perfect image in my mind of the couple and their home. There were a couple of plot twists along the way which had me trying to fit the pieces of the puzzle together, hints towards what the Parkers were really all about, but again, I felt as if I was left waiting for too long to get my answers, which I wanted so, so badly.
Having said that, my comments above wouldn't put me off reading another novel by Jenna Ellis. Despite my impatience with the plot and the pace of Our Little Secret, it's impossible to deny that Jenna has a certain way with words which I'd happily read again. I particularly enjoyed the ending of this novel, but I wouldn't want to give anything away so I'll zip it. Becca's Books is awarding Our Little Secret by Jenna Ellis with three gorgeous cupcakes! I wouldn't say no to more Jenna Ellis in the future!
It's not something that I would read usually, I happened to come across it on my friends bookshelf.
I read the blurb and somehow pictured it to look really fun and mysterious. I can safely say that's exactly what it was, thrown in with a whole lot of sex.
For me it was quite racy, and in typical English style i felt quite embarrassed reading it anywhere other then home. Usually I'm more of a hopeless romantic book lover, the plot usually goes like; main girl gets crushed after heartbreak of horrid boyfriend and goes rogue, she then meets the man of her dreams somehow, after an epic catalogue of embarrassing, yet funny situations, she would have got herself into, to end up meet/bumping into him. But then after all the inital funny parts, it all goes wrong, the boy and girl some how separate, the girl is really upset & doesn't understand how she can like someone that much, in such a short space of time and she realises she never truly loved the first boyfriend.
Then their friends hatch a plan to get them both together again, then after this their eyes lock and they realise actually they love each other & all ends well.
So this book was quite the opposite to what I usually enjoy reading. I have to give credit to Jenna for this though, as I was strangely intrigued to find out what was going to happen & how? She kept me hooked through the sexual tension and chemistry she builds up in her characters and this is somewhat addictive to read.
I felt myself believing it all and urging for them to just get on, as I couldn't bare the tension.
It's also quite clever how she leads you to be suspicious of her new hosts, yet they seem so trustworthy, so you're intrigued and want to find out what it is they're hiding? You don't know what it is, you just know that it is something. So you want to keep reading.
With all this in mind, the ending for me seems quite abrupt & strangely makes little sense. I felt like there could have been more of an explanation, but it kind of ends on: will there be another book to follow?
Overall, I felt the build up was really good, as was the sexual chemistry between the characters, but I think after all that waiting the book ends quite suddenly after such a big build up.
I must say that I was slightly disappointed with the book. I expected a lot more and more interesting to read. Sophie wants a change in the lives of so sign up for a nanny to work in new york. She is excited at what the future holds. An all of sudden suranded with luxurious homes, designer clothes and fast cars. there are also Parkers full of mystery and strange desires. Characters did not convince me, and also not the story itself. There is WAY too much description of for me unimportant things (place, etc).I skipped a few pages while reading. I was not convinced by the erotic scene, given that this is erotica. Scene hasn't been many and were poorly written. The end was unusual, I would've like it to end differently. *ARC provided by Netgalley in exchange for an honest review
All I can say is, "WOW!" This book definitely took me for a ride and I couldn't put it down. This was my first time reading a book by Jenna Ellis and all I can say is that I look forward to reading more of her work.
This book revolved around Sophie, a young women from Manchester who just wants to escape her life and get out there. She takes a chance on a "nanny" position in the States and is surprised with all the sensual things she encounters while there. The Parkers (Marnie and Edward) are both very charismatic and the dynamic they have is just amazing. The ending definitely blindsided me but it was great!
Overall, this book was a great read and I highly recommend it.
I really wanted to love this book but it just missed the mark for me. The description hooked me but the plot fell flat. As I was expecting, the sex scenes were hot and off the charts. I feel that the mystery surrounding the Parkers was overdone and Sophie seemed too willing for someone who appeared so naive. I would give another book by Jenna Ellis a try in the future even though this one didn't quite work for me because it did have its moments.
