3.5 Never Underestimate the Love of a Kelly Stars
* * * 1/2 Spoiler Free
We all think Pretty, Beautiful people have it lucky...Everyone wants to know them, be next to them... love them. But what happens when tragedy strikes and the pretty girl is saved and recovers...but her pretty is now not so perfect. She has scars on the face all were in love with...How does she see herself now...How will others see her...

This is actually a serious question, not as superficial as it may seem at first glance. Because we grow up with our bodies and face... watching the changes which slowly evolve, becoming used to the reflection we see in the mirror; the reactions from friends and family and then the public and lovers. If you were thought to be this beauty, consider how hurtful and damaging it would be to overhear your "fiance" tell someone on the phone how he couldn't have a "maimed" wife...how it wouldn't fit with his game plan. And when confronted about this conversation he was having in the hospital where his Fiance was recovering from the accident he caused...Said asswipe told her yes, he felt that way and walked out.

This is what happened to Ariana.
She pulled herself together and joined her cousin on the Lavender farm, Champs de Lavande, the inheritance from their late aunt. It was a successful endeavor; the perfumeries and other companies which used the crop made it profitable to run. Ariana, though, brought something special to the business. She was a chemist by trade with years of experience in the industry. Together with her cousin, they were now making their own special blends of products with parts of the crop. Now with an adjacent ranch next door finally for sale, Ariana and Juliette wish to acquire it for possibilities... more crops or even a factory to produce in volume the latest cream Ariana was creating. There was only one hurdle in their way...

The Kelly's of Whiskey River, Texas.

They wanted this land to increase their award-winning stable, Kelly's Champs. They trained, boarded and bred the best in the business when it came to horses. The family was an institution and almost all of the business in this region had something to do with the Kelly dynasty.

And speaking of Dynasty... there had been a shock to the system for Trey and his brother Wyatt. Upon the reading of the will for their eccentric and willful father... they found out, not only did they have 2 other brothers by other women but due to the specifics of the will, all of them have to live on the same ranch, split the businesses and stay like that for an entire year....otherwise they get cut out.... with zero, zip, nothing.

A meeting with the seller for the property both Trey and Ariana want has been arranged. It cannot be done without Ariana being there. She wants to be there as much as being stung by a 1000 bees. Trey was her crush...a crush no one ever knew she had... and to see especially him or even anyone else is just too difficult, almost painful.

For the scars from the fateful car accident may have healed as best as they could from the extensive surgeries...but the woman has not. She would rather be out in the small building on her farm working on "lotions and potions" than have to hear all the comments said to her or behind her back. Most mean no harm... but the staring, pointing or children asking "why is the lady like that Mommy"... it just is too much. Ariana knows mentally she should be grateful; her scars and accident were nothing like others which have had to deal with much worse...but she keeps hearing her ex say those words in her head...and feels like she is not the person she was before and would rather hide from all.

Ariana should have known, her day was going to be crappy; it turned damp and rainy on her ride. While she was thinking of how to get out of the meeting with Trey Kelly, she is met by a dog who is barking and running back and forth trying to get her attention. She follows the dog as much as she can on horseback but then has to go on foot to the place where she is being led. There in the middle of a rain-river is a huge beast of a dog trapped. It looks like its back legs are stuck. Ariana works her way down to the animal, tries a couple of times to move it only to twist an ankle and jam a wrist in the process. With her ass up in the air, her leaning and dragging the big dog as best she can... Trey shows up.

Now there was a sight, thought Trey...Even with soaked, muddy clothes and hair sopping wet bent over like that... he could see it was Ariana. He called out just as she was making a little headway and down she went again. Always the gentleman, he refused to listen to her grumbling and first carried her to a clearing and then maneuvered the dogs too.

He was struck by her eyes as she glared at him...he remembered her from their youth and always had a soft spot for her. He thought she had grown into a fine woman and heard of all the accomplishments she had achieved. He also heard a bit about some ex and her accident but nothing which came to mind at the time. He had always thought her pretty and nothing had changed... As Ariana tried to gather herself up to get back to her tied horse... she stumbled and groaned. Trey wasn't having her move around like that and politely explained she needed to get into his truck... she was in no condition to walk on her own. Concerned about the dogs, she declined... she needed to get them to her home. Trey explained he would take the dogs and her to his ranch, call the Doc for the both of them and then send a ranch hand to ride her horse to her ranch.

Damn....he covered everything. There was nothing Ariana could say. As she sat on the passenger side of his truck, she glanced at the man Trey had become. He was everything the gossips and photos from the articles about him said. He was magnificent; strong, handsome with a dash of humble. He started to make small talk and she could barely listen..she was so caught up in her head... so concerned about her scars on the side of her face. She was moving in an awkward way on the seat when Trey mentioned how bad his day had been too. Ariana perked up and asked what was he talking about...and looked directly at him.

It was in that moment when Trey really saw Ariana and thought how lovely she was... how beautiful her eyes and the warmth of her...even in the state she was in. Having Trey look at her for just a moment like that; it made a connection somewhere inside her...she stopped thinking about her scarred face and trying to hide everything... she let herself be in the moment...

And that was all it took.

Both of these two continue on a path of discovery with each other. Ariana feels free around Trey's open affection for her. The two of them work through the negotiations for the land they both want and each come away a winner in more ways then this deal. There are insecurities which rear their ugly heads but end up being resolved in a timely manner.

All of this happens with the backdrop of the coming together of the additional brothers. It seems everyone has a specialty on the ranch and business; maybe it won't be too much of a complication after all. It also seems Wyatt and Juliette, Ariana's cousin, are getting along just fine....maybe another romance is brewing, hmmmm...

This is a strong, friendly, quick read with very little drama. I can see how all the other entries will come together and look forward to reading them...I do love me some Cowboys...

The story is switching very quickly from one character to the other, almost every 1 to 2 pages, which is a little confusing.

The story is about the Kelly boys, Wyatt and Trey. After their father passed away, they heard from their lawyer that they will get the ranch that was owned by Boots (their late father) but they only get it if they spend a year living together on the ranch together with their two siblings and after that year the ranch will be equally shared between them. Only, Wyatt and Trey didn't know they had two more brothers out there..

Trey who kept living on the ranch after Boots passed away wants to expand the ranch by buying the land next door from Parker, but Parker has another interested party, the beautiful Ariana from the lavender farm on the other side of Parker.

Best sentence: Oh... hell... Maybe I'll be mad later. (Absolutely woman logic)

3.5 - "I'm tired of being careful. I'm going to have some fun." Stars!

Book two, in the Whiskey River series, gives us Trey Kelly and Ariana Wright's story. An enjoyable, quick read, that offers more development on the Kelly/Blue brothers as well.

Ariana has returned to Whiskey River, Texas to begin her life again, after a horrific car crash left her scarred, and dumped by her fiancé, the man who was actually driving the car. Confidence shattered, she now spends her days on her lavender farm, working on recipes for new beauty products. The Kelly Farm is right next door to Ariana’s, so it was only a matter of time, and a pair of stray dogs before her path crosses Trey's.

This was a really enjoyable story, I liked Trey, he was sweet, charming and romantic in all the right places. Ariana has a little bit of a martyr complex going on, which although understandable towards the end of the book, starts to err into the get over yourself category, a little but being a novella it was quickly sorted out.

You are also given definite tidbits and teases into who the rest of the brothers are potentially likely to end up with, and I cannot wait to see where the next book; One Night with the Tycoon takes us, and which brother will find himself firmly lassoed next!

"3 out of 5 stars, in the span of one-day Trey’s life goes from surprising to pleasing. First, he finds out that his father had other sons that he wasn’t aware of and now has to share his family’s ranch with them for a year just to be able to inherit what should be his and his brother Wyatt already. Then later that same day Trey finds Ariana in a river on his property, bringing a wanting he hasn’t ever believed he wanted before. Yet, Ariana is physically scarred and has a hard time overcoming it. Will Trey be able to win her over and get her out of her comfort zone for good? Or will she feel that being apart would be best for the both of them?

I liked Trey and Ariana’s romance it was very sweet, comical, and heartwarming!"

The Whiskey River series is a fun and very entertaining read.

One Night with the Cowboy was Trey Kelly's story, he's the eldest of the Kelly brothers.

I really enjoyed watching Trey and Ariana come together. They were both very likable, relatable and had amazing chemistry.

The Whiskey River books are short novella's that cover's each of the Kelly brother's and finding their perfect partner =)

Great afternoon read.

Thank you Tule Publishing via Netgalley for the advance copy in exchange for my honest thoughts.

Story opens with the reading of their fathers will. Trey and Wyatt are shocked to find out that their father had twin boys with another woman. He sets out in his will that all four Kelly boys must live together for a year on the Kelly ranch. One of my favorite chapters was where the 4 boys are together for the first night and are playing pool. Trey meets Ariana, she had fallen in the creek to rescue an injured dog. Trey is instantly attracted to a drenched and shivering Ariana. Ariana and her cousin own the land where they have a lavender farm and are looking to expand and build a factory. Another neighbor has her property for sale and she is deciding who to sell to, the Kelly's or the lavender farm/
Great writing and depth of characters. Want to read more of the Kelly's and their relationships.

Love lavender and cowboys so the description for this one really caught my attention.
From the notification of secret siblings to a rather unorthodox, muddy beginning... this book hit it running from the get go.
Trey Kelly is drawn to Ariana Wright, despite how soggy and filthy she is. What I found telling was that for guy with a rep as a ladies man, Trey is snared by her eyes, he gazes into them, not lower , although he acknowledges she’s tiny, fragile and all grown-up female. He even poetically identifies her eye color. What macho guy does that, unless he’s head over heels?
While I like lavender, I think perhaps Ms. Gaddy really likes purples. I mean, really, who has lavender eyes?
He’s also different in that he’s looking at her, noticing her, not her imperfection, the scar on one side of her face.
Both are horse people. She obviously is intrinsically good, if embarrassed, which makes her snappy, when he comments on her appearance.
But, she’s the one with the hangup about her scar. Having a fiance who leaves two weeks after the accident he caused because he can’t get over the blemish on you face, will leave even deeper emotional scars.
Unlike most people, she attracted to and for the most part comfortable with Trey. Doesn’t hurt he’s the older guy Ariana crushed on as a kid, but back then she wasn’t even on his radar.
They have their love of dogs and inability to abandon a wounded animal, no matter how inconvenient or impossible rescuing and treating it might seem.
Despite a rivalry between Trey’s family and Ariana and her cousin Juliette for property each side wants to buy to expand the family business, Trey falls hard and fast and doesn’t waste time telling her either.
Ariana isn’t far behind, but the wound left by her ex cut deep and is still festering. So, she tries to push him away, so she won’t have to face people, telling him he deserves someone who can fulfill his family’s social obligations. He calls BS and refuses to let her end it. She refuses to talk to or see him.
So, she has to decide will she let past hurt and fear keep her from grabbing hold of the present and a possibly blissful future? fear of what people she didn’t know might think of something she had no control over, fear of how they’d perceive an imperfection? be as shallow as the ex who judged her, afraid to live, to love, to trust...a man, especially Trey, but more importantly, could she trust herself, her judgement?
Yeah, it has a HEA, if you call that an ending... seemed more like a beginning or near close to a chapter but not “the end.”
Also, I got kind of worried when less than 10 pages in there was a big inconsistency in who Ariana and her Juliette inherited the family lavender farm from. Page 5 says they inherited from aunt. Page 9 says they inherited from a cousin.
Caught another couple of minor typos. Reads more like a final draft ARC than published release.
Otherwise, this is an enjoyable short read, only 69 pages.

Meet the Kellys of Whiskey River, Texas, men who have always gone through life, and women, with their father’s legendary charm.

This is Trey Kelly's story ......

It's no secret that, in large, we as a society assume 'pretty people' have it easy. Why? Because everyone wants to be them. They want to know them and be part of their world. Why? Because they're the 'pretty people'. But what happens when that girl or guy is not 'pretty' (by society's standards) any longer? Ariana Wright found out the brutal way that most will not stick around. But she's strong. She pulled herself together and joined her cousin on the family farm, Champs de Lavande. Exactly what the doctor ordered. You see, she's a chemist. So she gets to go hide out and use her talent to create new and innovating products. SO, together with her cousin she began to thrive and grow once again. Both herself and the farm. So when the adjoining farm went up for sale, it was a no-brainer to expand.

But they've got themselves some competition for that land.

Cue, Trey Kelly... HIS family ranch wanted this land to increase their horse stable, Kelly's Champs. They trained, boarded and bred the best of the best horses. Kelly's Champs was an institution. It was known far and wide. And the Kelly brothers wanted to expand.

OK, so now Ariana has herself in a bit of a pickle. You wanna know why? .... She's got herself a crush on Trey :) And she is REALLY nervous about her appearance...But they shared a look and that's all it took :)

There's a lot more to their first meeting and the rest of their journey to HEA, but you're going to have to enjoy it yourself when you read this book. And enjoy it you will. This story a quick fun read. There really is not any angst and I love Eve Gaddy for not making it that way. A true heart-warming romantic read. I loved every page!

The second book in the Whiskey River series truly introduces us to the Kelly/Blue brothers. And not only do we have a blossoming romance between eldest brother Trey Kelly and his neighbour Ariana Wright, but we start to see the dynamics forming between Trey and his brother Wyatt and their new-found half brothers Nicholas and Xander.

description

Sweet, romantic and with some intimacy, One Night with the Cowboy was an enjoyable read with an endearing couple. Trey is a gent who wears his heart on his sleeve and whilst Ariana was a little frustrating at times (understandable considering she has been left scarred in more ways than one following a car accident), she was an intelligent and fairly strong lady despite a lack of confidence.

With hints dropped as to possible future couplings, I'm looking forward to seeing how hard Wyatt falls in One Night with the Tycoon.

3.5 stars.

I as a reader have always enjoyed stories where outer beauty is not what draws two people together. My opinion is that it takes a very unique individual to look past surface beauty and discover the inner radiance. Eve Gaddy truly stole my heart with One Night with the Cowboy. The beauty of finding that treasure in the place that no one else deemed fit to look is the most beautiful gift of all. I was given an ARC of this story for an honest review. Heartwarming.

This was quick read. It moved at a fast pace. It was predictable but interesting. Ariana has a scar that she received from a car accident. She is extremely sensitive about it and has pretty much become a hermit., Trey stumbles across her at her worse. He barely notices her scar. I loved him from that point on. It should be fun reading how the other brothers fall in love

Book two of the Whiskey River series is a hot romance with two great stars. Trey the rancher and Ariana, the chemist who has a nearby lavender farm. Both want the land between their homes that's for sale. Ariana thinks she is unworthy of love because she is scarred from a car accident but Trey convinces her she's wrong. A short story that is a satisfying read for these hot summer months.

**MINOR SPOILERS**
This book is the second in the Whiskey River series and the first I have read by the author. It can be read as a standalone but many of the characters appear in other books. The story is called a book in the description on Amazon but should be considered a short story or a novella. There is little time to develop the characters, the relationship, descriptions in general and the author does not do so.
The book begins with a rushed explanation of the overall story that I think should have been placed elsewhere. Trey’s father has died and left all of his property to his 4 sons. The problem is that Trey did not know about two of his half brothers and they did not know about him. They are forced to live together for a year under the conditions of the will.
Trey and Ariana are the main characters in this book. They are attracted to each other immediately. Ariana is not interested in a relationship when they first meet but gives into her attraction to Trey instantly. They fall in love and consummate their relationship in about 5 seconds (a small exaggeration).
She has a scar on her face that has given her self doubt. Her former fiancé left her because he could not handle being with her any more after he maimed her in a car accident (his words). His rejection and the stares of people who have seen her scar have made her self conscious. For part of the book, she forgets about the scars and no one really notices it. But at the end of the book, she breaks off her relationship with Trey as a result. Trey does not care about the scar and has told her that repeatedly.
When Ariana decides to break off with Trey, she also wants to break off a business deal that involves his family. It is a foolish decision that was not well thought out and, fortunately, her cousin talks her out of it, but it left me shaking my head at her.
The storytelling in this book is not smooth. There is no depth to their relationship. No explanation for why they are attracted to each other. The author simply manages to fill enough pages with words. While I think Ariana’s self consciousness about her scar is natural, the author succeeds in making her seem shallow and impulsive rather than relatable.
I do not plan to continue the series. This story and the others in the series seem like standard romantic stories with little original writing.

I liked the book for the most part. I like what the story was about. It was about a woman that had received a noticeable scar as the result of a car accident that happened as a result of her fiancé’s negligence. He abandons her because he can’t stand to look at her and as a result their engagement ends. She has other experiences with other people who recoil or make negative comments at the sight of her scar. This causes her to become reclusive in order to avoid such experiences. Trey though could care less about her scar. He likes her for the woman she is. The book is well written. There isn’t any profanity. There are few short paragraphs that do contain some sexually graphic dialogue; but it is minimal. The problem I have is the book comes to an abrupt halt. It was like reading half a book. I am really into the story and then “BAM” it’s over. It doesn’t feel like a cliffhanger but the way it ended it may be.

Just okay.

Three stars because the writing structure was good, and the editing was good, but this story completely lacked substance. Things ran quickly from point to point, there was no build up, we barely got to know the characters, then they fell in love (or so they said, there was certainly no feelings of love going on) after just a few days, and the end. I also expected this book to be longer, but half of the "book" is actually a totally different story. I'd like to say that I was disappointed in how short this was, but the lack of depth made me want to skim to the end anyway, so when I was suddenly looking at the words "The End", I was surprised, but not too bothered. That's never a great sign. :/ I just wish there was some kind of emotion in the book. It felt like she stopped world building right as she was fleshing things out, and we got the rough draft.

I enjoyed Texas Cowboy where Ariana Wright and Trey Kelly find a way to work out their differences and find romance. Ariana is partner with her cousin in the lavender farm next to the Kelly Ranch.

The story moves from a mud bath in February, rescuing two dogs, buying a ranch next to both properties and finding a new location for the lavender factory, while still finding time to fall for each other.

The romance was fun, the story faced serious issues and the animals added a touch of humor for the humans to enjoy.

Sweet and sincere

This book was a sweet romantic story. Sometimes funny. Sometimes sad. Just like life. I read through it fairly quickly, and enjoyed every minute of it. Two grown up people with past romances and children, reconnect years after high school dating. And it was so much sweeter the second time around. Lovely story. You won't be dissapointed.

Good read, part of a series but can be read as a stand alone. HEA. Trey and Ariana haven't seen each other since they were kids, know they are both after the same land to expand their businesses. They are instantly drawn to each other but Ariana is scarred both physically and emotionally, can Trey help her overcome her fears.

I really enjoyed Texas Cowboy. This is the story about Trey and Ariana. Ariana had a crush on Trey, but after her accident, she has lost her confidence. Can Trey convince her that he’s being truthful, when he tells her how beautiful she is on the inside and outside? Grab your copy and get ready to fall in love with this cowboy.

Great Story

I do enjoyed that Trey and Ariana got together. After finding out about his half brothers so good had to come his way. Ariana knew Trey growing up but has been some of a recluse since her accident left her a visible scar but also the ex telling her needed someone not maimed. The second story was a second chance of first love for Justin & Maya in Montana.

Trey and Arianna

I enjoyed reading the story of Trey and Arianna. How Arianna suffered after an auto accident that was her boyfriend fault, the broken engagement and his hurtful words. Trey, what a wonderful understanding person, who dealt with 2 stepbrothers he never knew that they existed till his dad's will was read. How he helped Arianna get over her fear.

The eldest of 2 brothers raised by the deceased father finds he has 2 new brothers from a different mother. He has his own business of quarter horses that he raises and trains. While dealing with the new brothers who now must live with him (very large house - each has own wing); he finds himself attracted to a neighbor with her own set of problems. HEA.

This was a terrific story! I loved Trey and Arianna! After an accident Arianna has become a recluse. She fears that no one will want to look at her. Trey doesn't see her imperfections. He only sees the beauty inside her. Can he convince her that not everyone will think something is wrong with her? A wonderful story!
