To him, I was only just Sage, Matt Nichols’ little sister. But I've worshiped Conall my whole life. My brother's best friend. My secret crush. My first and only love. Always hoping he’d really see... me.
And then, a torrent of circumstances ripped through my life. One by one, my family began to crumble. My dad's heart attack. My brother's tragic death. My mother's slipping sanity. And then Conall's abandonment. He took my heart when he left, but he gave me a reason to grow up fast, to be strong, and to live.
Now, just when things finally start looking up, he's back in Bitterroot. Standing before me, not the boy he once was, but a man. Just when I’m on the cusp of living again. Just when I’m starting to feel like I could let go of the past and be happy without him, the feelings I set aside for all those years are raging once again through my veins. My tight control is slipping. The future I've so carefully mapped out now seems so uncertain.
He’s changed, but he hasn’t. I hate him for leaving, but I love him for coming home.
But will he stay? And do I really, truly want him to after he shattered me before?
Sibylla Matilde grew up on the back of a horse exploring in the mountain valleys of Southwest Montana. She attended a two-room schoolhouse 1st through 6th grade where she had same teacher the whole time. At the age of 12, Siby discovered historical romance, devouring the work of Jude Devereaux, Lisa Kleypas, and Karen Robards. She began writing in 2013 with her debut novel, Little Conversations, and self-published ten works over the next three years. She took a few years off to deal with life (it proved very difficult to move on from her Bangin’ Mofos…they were a blast to write), but is back at the keyboard with new steamy stories brewing in her naughty little brain.
Music is her emotional trigger. Growing up with a Wagnarian-opera-loving mother, Sibylla loves music that digs deep into her soul and covers her with goosebumps. The soundtrack to her life includes different genres and generations, but her favorites include Thirty Seconds to Mars (she’s a bit obsessive about Jared Leto, actually), Kings of Leon, The Killers, My Chemical Romance, and many other artists and bands. Her inspiration playlists on Spotify truly drive her writing, and she loves to share her eclectic taste with anyone who will listen.
Siby strives to write books that make the reader bask in the sweet glow of new love, burn hot with a passionate intensity, and day drink from gut-wrenching heartache. Her characters are not world-famous rock stars or billionaires, rather every-day small-town people experiencing their own extraordinary romantic adventures in the Rocky Mountains she calls home. Siby loves to hear from fans and can be reached at Siby@SibyllaMatilde.com.
We met Sage in book 1 of this series, she has a 4 year old daughter who is a result of a one night stand with her brothers best friend.
When Conall returns to Bitterroot, he is shocked to learn of his daughters existence.
Sage is a tough cookie, she has bought up Mattie on her own but when it comes to men she has trust issues and especially with the man who let her down all those years ago.
I loved Conall, he was pure Alpha with a gentle side and pretty hot to boot. When he realises he could have what he never thought he could have, he is determined and goes for it, no matter what gets in his way.
A special shout out to Mattie, such a cute character - I loved her epilogue.
ARC provided by the author Sibylla Matilde in exchange for an honest review.
This is the second time posting my review for this. It seems to have disappeared from my self. I am not just reposting the review.
I hate to say it but I think I enjoyed this one more then the first. I have loved each book Sibylla has put out so far. She is a author when looking for a book I check out to see if they have any new releases. I am looking for "Post Break Up Sex" which is out next. I reccomend you give her read.
Arc Kindly provided for honest review but I also own copies of her books.
First off, Always Conall is part of the Bitterroot series but you would be fine reading AC on its own.
Always Conall has a great story line and the two main characters Conall and Sage are very likable and empathetic. You will find yourself rooting for both of them. Sage grew up loving Conall and after a tragedy that impacts both their lives Conall leaves and breaks Sage's heart. Fast forward a few years and what do you know, guess who comes back to town? This was one of my favorite parts of the book, the author captures the feelings and longing perfectly. You want Sage to run to him then not to run to him. Though Conall has come back he has missed out on a lot. Was it selfish for him to leave? Should he had stayed? Is it too late?
Each book by this author is better than the last and I loved Always Conall. If you weren't sure before give this one a try. Quick easy read.
ALWAYS CONALL by Sibylla Matilde has to be my favorite book by her to date. Less than 24 hours and I had devoured the book – which is really, really fast for me. For comparison: I usually accomplish 1-2 books a week max. It’s something about Sibylla’s books that always captures me and keeps me hooked from the very beginning.
The story is so amazingly sweet and the characters loveable. We meet Sage first in book #1 of the Bitterroot series where she quickly becomes Brynn’s best friend. Also Sage’s little daughter Mattie was introduced. Mattie really is a spitfire and I cannot explain how much I loved her and her obsession for purple and ponies, she has to be by far my favorite character in Sibylla’s books.
Conall and Sage’s big brother Matt have been best friends and Sage has had a crush on Conall for as long as she can remember, but she was never more but Matt’s little sister to him. One tragic night everything changes when Matt dies. Conall blames himself for what happened and is about to run away to save her and her family from the curse he thinks he is. Sage tries everything to keep him from leaving her, however he flees anyway – but not without leaving something from himself behind.
Fast forward 5 years. Sage now has a 4-year-old daughter called Mattie. When Conall returns now he is flabbergasted to see Sage with such an already grown child. To say it is all flowers and roses now that they are reunited could not be more wrong. Instead, there are fights, there is heartbreak, there is blame and regret and there is Sage trying to protect her child and be the best mother to Mattie she can possibly be, all the while there is Mattie with her hopes of family with a mum and a dad who lightens up every bad mood with her ponies and her wittiness.
Sage is a strong heroine, the things and heartache she had to overcome to be there for her daughter and when Conall comes home she has to fight her fear to be left alone once again. I felt with her every single second.
Conall had the best intentions in mind when leaving Bitterroot, but he is taken aback what effects his choice had on Sage and how much he lost and missed in these 5 years he was away. 4 years of seeing his daughter he never knew he had growing up that he will never get back. His guilt is like a stab to my heart, which he now has to overcome in order to prove to Sage that he won’t run again in the next rough situation but instead can be the man Sage needs him to be and the daddy his little girl Mattie deserves.
Mattie!! Ohh Mattie! I cannot describe how much I loved this little girl! She completely stole my heart! She cute and funny, but also intelligent and extremely inquisitive which brings Sage but also Conall to hard-pressed to explain situations countless of times. The connection Mattie and Conall shared from the beginning was just incredible.
“DO YOU LOVE MOMMY?” I BRUSHED MATTIE’S HAIR BACK OUT OF HER EYES AND LOOKED AT HER TENDERLY. “I’VE LOVED HER AS LONG AS I CAN REMEMBER.” “DO YOU LOVE HER A LOT?” “I’VE NEVER LOVED ANYONE MORE. IT DIDN’T SEEM POSSIBLE. AND THEN I FOUND OUT ABOUT YOU.” MATTIE FROWNED. “DO YOU LOVE ME MORE THAN MOMMY?” SHIT…HOW TO ANSWER THIS. THIRD-DEGREE BY A FOUR-YEAR-OLD. WITH NO COFFEE. FUCK ME.
Oh, and I loved how Kian stepped up for Sage to make sure she doesn’t get hurt again. His protectiveness gets me every time.
This is a second chance love story with angst, regret and passion in just the right places. It surely is a bumpy ride – it’s emotional and funny and just another awesome read created by the wonderful Sibylla Matilde. I cannot wait for her next book to be released!
ANOTHER fantastic book written by Sibylla Matilde! And, I must say, she picks the coolest names for her guy characters - Ronin, Rhys, Kian and now Conall! So unique, but ultimately intriguing...
8/29/14 -
Sibylla Matilde hits it out of the ballpark again with another emotionally-charged novel that does not disappoint. Sage has loved Conall like forever. He’s her older brother’s best friend, and he is hot! She’s always followed the two around from the time she was young, and when tragedy strikes, Conall’s guilt gets the best of him. How can he do this to her, though? He can’t leave her too!! And, when she begs him to stay after an act of mind-blowing indiscretion on both their parts, Conall just runs leaving Sage in tears and heartache. Four years have now gone by. Sage’s life is different. She has a much more important responsiblity. One that does not just concern herself. And, here comes Conall strolling back into town. What’s that all about? Is he here to stay or just visit? And, boy does Sage have some whopper of a secret that she has been keeping from him! How will he react to it? And, will he stick around once and for all if it’s a life-changing situation?
The two main characters just blew my socks off. Sage, the younger of the two, was mature and strong. She’s smart and beautiful and is full of life. Life has thrown her some curveballs since she’s been young, but she rolls with the punches and just survives. With good supportive friends, she finds a balance to live her life to the fullest. Her lovelife isn’t much of one, but she doesn’t seem to be in a hurry to be swept off her feet. And, then there’s Conall! SWEET, SEXY Conall! Oh, my word! What a man! Anyone could see why he attracts such lust from women! He’s one hunk of masculine beauty! He’s so gentle and kind, however, which is apparent by his tenderness to a special little someone. But, will he stick around to get to know that tiny little angel? That’s the ultimate question, though, because Sage is no stranger to Conall’s heartbreaking ways when things become too much for him to bear. So, she’s pretty hesitant to take a chance on him yet again. But, she knows that it’s “Always Conall”. He has held her heart in his hands forever and that, she doubts, will probably ever change.
This was a beautiful love story! Two individuals bearing a pain so devastating and then trying to put the pieces back together for a better more substantial life for their family. I cried quite a few tears for both of them - the first time they were intimate, when Conall left, when Conall returned, when Sage exposed her secret, when they again were intimate, and finally when it came to deciding if they were truly meant to be together forever. It was an up-and-down rollercoaster of emotions that just had me holding my breath hoping that they would get that “happily-ever-after” they both so deserved. The author magnificiently pens the pages with an array of sweeping emotions. I still am such an amazing fan of Ronin’s from “Little Conversations”, but Conall surely is in close competition. I can’t wait to see what male hotness graces the pages of Ms. Matilde’s next novel!
And, thank you to Ms. Matilde for providing me a copy of her newest novel for an honest review! It was my pleasure to read and review her latest release...
This is Sibylla’s fourth book and it’s been lovely watching her grow, not just as a writer but in her confidence in her abilities. We have now progressed to ‘I’m thinking it doesn’t suck’ from ‘I hope it doesn’t suck.’ Well Siby, I can assure you, the book doesn’t suck, at all! It’s a wonderful bittersweet love story.
Always Conall is book 2 in the Bitterroot series, although it can be read as a standalone. Saying that, when characters do flow in from another book, I always like to read the others and then when you get to this one, it’s like saying hello to old friends again. So I would advise you to read Because of Kian first before you read this.
Sage was introduced to us in book one. She’s a single mum who works in a bar and is trying to make a better life for herself and her daughter. She didn’t give out many details about the father, only to say that he wasn’t even aware his daughter existed.
So here we are 5 years after Conall went away, and he’s back from the Army and in town. And about to get the shock of his life.
Conall has always been it for Sage, all she ever saw or wanted. But now he’s back, and she has a priority that comes before him, her daughter.
She’s got a kind of boyfriend as well, but all of the old feelings come flooding back when Conall reappears.
Sage is just a sweetie really. A teenage mum, she’s had to grow up fast and doesn’t really have any experiences of the normal stuff that should happen between men and women. So she ‘dated’ Jeff just because it was informal and easy and wouldn’t upset her homelife with her daughter. But she doesn’t know what normal is and when you experience it through her eyes, well you could cry for her:
“He brought me flowers. Again. Maybe totally cliche, but I loved it just as much this time as I had the last. More, really, because this time he knew how much it would mean to me. And he’d shared with me what it meant to him.”
Conall, well he’s a bit tormented by his past, even more so when he finds out what the ripples of him leaving caused. I would have liked more background about Conall’s missing years from his pov, and if he thought on Sage during that time, used it in moments of need overseas perhaps. We got a little glimpse, but what can I say, i’m greedy.
There is only one thought running through your mind reading this, you want Sage & Conall back together and to stay that way. Of course you know they are not going to be able to resist each other:
“I fucking want all of you.” he rumbled against my skin, pulsing vibrations through me with every breath. “I want to taste you exploding in my mouth.I want your hot little pussy and your tight little ass.”
But can they stay together? Can they get past around all of the issues in their past and present to get their happily ever after?
Go and grab a copy and read it and find out. It’s a great sweet (but sexy) second chance romance. What are you waiting for, go get it now!
Always Conall is easily one of the best books I have read this year. I can’t begin to tell you how much I loved this read or how much it mad me laugh and cry. Always Conall is an absolutely fantastic read full of humor and emotion. This book and its characters will capture your heart and not let go.
Sage has always loved Conall, her brothers best friend. But a myriad of bad circumstances upend Sage’s life and throw her into a tailspin. But then Conall, the man that she has always loved leaves her and her entire world is blown apart. I loved Sage. She is was so strong, brave and fought back against what life had thrown at her. And there was the small secret that Conall never knew- their daughter Mattie. When Conall comes back to town, he is a changed man. Sage doesn’t know whether to love him, hate him or even trust him. Can she forgive Conall for breaking her heart and leaving her when Sage needed him the most?
My emotions were all over the place while I was reading this book. I fell in love with all of the characters, especially Conall. Conall is all alpha but at the same time amazingly sweet and caring. I loved when Conall met his daughter and realized how much he had to lose and how much he had lost while he had been gone. Conall becomes a changed man after learning that he is a father. He is determined to be with Sage and be the best father to Mattie. Conall is absolute man candy/ book boyfriend material.
Speaking of Mattie- has a cuter character ever been written? She is adorable and precocious. I loved every single word that she spoke. And just wait till you read the epilogue. It was the absolute perfect way to end this perfect read.
Always Conall was an absolute joy to read. The plot charmed me and was set at just the perfect pace. The characters are so well written that their pain and joy are almost palpable. This is one of those series where the second book is just as stunning, if not more than the first book. I couldn’t put this read down. I would recommend this book to everyone. It is definitely one of those reads that will make you fall in love, break your heart and then leave you smiling at the end.
You think Kian's the one?? It's time to meet Conall and think again!
I should start by saying I was in a total book rut before reading this, even tho I've enjoyed the last 2 books I've read I haven't finished either yet. I just couldn't get in the right head space, but Conall just dragged me straight out and ensured I devoured him in a single sitting!
Everything about this book shouts out to me, best friends and old lovers that are just meant to be, trying to find their way. It had everything I needed a super hot guy, with issues he needs to work through and a very strong yet vulnerable female that is as easy to fall for as Conall is. The amazing addition that is Mattie just sets the whole book off and she's just adorable, in fact so much so that it makes me want to pounce on my hubby and demand a 4th child! (That feeling better pass pretty soon or Sibylla will have a lot to answer for!)
I'm not one for going into detail about what happens in the book (that's what a synopsis is for) I just throw my feelings down in a jumble of words and man did this make me feel!! I laughed, I swooned, my jaw dropped, I gasped and I teared up. Emotions galore!
Sibylla's writing is so effortless it didn't feel like I was reading a book it almost felt like I was watching a film, everything just appeared right in front of me and flowed so beautifully.
I love the fact that we don't get tied down in lots of unnecessary characters and the plot doesn't have silly dramas thrown in just to ramp up the story. It really is just a beautiful love story.
I feel that now I'm blogging I need to be even more responsible when dishing out 5*'s. So for that reason I probably tried harder than I have with previous reads to find fault and I really couldn't, so I won't apologise for a 5* review I'll just tell you to go buy it and see for yourself why I loved it!!~Zoë
Ok so I found a new favorite author! After Because of Kian, I knew I just HAD to continue the series with Always Conall and I was so incredibly satisfied with Sage and Conall! WOW! Seriously a beautiful story, a fascinating second chance, and a sweet and steamy connection between these two.
The way Conall is with Mattie from the first moment he sees her is endearing and what happens after weaves together to create a love story with all the flaws and heartache but one that will leave you with a feeling of "YES! This was meant to be"
I loved how these two came together and had to learn about each other all over again. They way they fought together and the way they each wanted what was best for the other and especially for Mattie showed how selfless these two actually are. I loved every interaction they had, even when some of them ended with my heart breaking. It's because of these sacrifices they wish to make for each other that this love story hit me so hard. I laughed, I cried, and I rooted for Conall throughout the whole story, even when he wasn't rooting for himself.
Sage is such a strong and fascinating character. She has done what was best for her daughter and doesn't hesitate to do what is best even in the most uncomfortable situation, like the first time she sees Conall after 5 years! WOW! She is so brave and the way she grew up from the last time they were together... breathtaking!
This is such a sweet and heartwarming read with moments of humor and family that has become stronger than blood. I loved the characters in this book and the way Kian and Brynn played such a significant role as well.
I FREAKING LOVE THIS SERIES! And I can't wait to read more from this author. I'm hooked!! Beautiful writing, intriguing dialogue and a flawlessly told love story that will leave you feeling the connection with these characters long after you turn the last page.
Erin's Review After reading the first chapter, I wasn't quite sure Conall was going to be on my ever expanding book boyfriend list. Then I kept reading. What appeared to be a total jerk, was a man who didn't think he was good enough. He was a man who ran from his problems so he wouldn't burden anyone else. Sage is an amazingly strong young woman. Single mom, put herself through school, has to stay strong for her daughter. If only Conall knew..... Sage and Conall don't start out falling in to each other's arms confessing their undying love for one another and I LOVE that! They had to work through their own insecurities first. I think there was no way for them to even attempt to be together otherwise. My favorite had to be Mattie. She was as precocious as they come and will steal your heart immediately. Thanks to her, I learned more about Twilight Sparkle than I would have ever known before reading this book. I won't tell you if Sage and Conall get their HEA. What I WILL tell you is that they DO have some hot sex, and that Conall sure knows how to make a girl feel special, even if he can't say the words. Sage is cautious, and with good reason. She as her daughter to protect, and her heart. Can Conall break down the walls? Guess you'll have to read to find out.
**This book is #2 in the Bitterroot Series, but I read it as a stand alone**
So, I just finished my ARC. I can't even begin to explain how much I loved this book. The situations, the emotions, everything that happened was just so believable. A lot of times in books, situations or emotions come about that just don't seem like they'd really happen in real life, only a fairytale. But with this book, the timeline of this story playing out is just awesome. It was all set in such a believable timeline, as no situation was forced. All the emotions that seemed appropriate for those situations played out so well and it wasn't rushed. All the emotions Sage went through, I felt right along with her. All her fears were justified. But at the same time I was right there with all of Conall's feelings as well. I am SO glad we got to read from both of their perspectives because I loved knowing each of their true feelings for the other even though they didn't know, or just wouldn't believe them.
I laughed my ass off in a few parts but also cried my eyes out in others.
I do love how the story ended, but it wasn't enough (LOL). I truly want more of Sage and Conall!!
Every book of Sibylla's that I read, I like more and more than the last one. Awesome job with this one! It was definitely worth the wait!!!
5 Stars I loved this book! I was so excited to receive an Advanced Reader Copy from the author, to which I promptly sat down and completely devoured this story. We first met Sage and Mattie in Because of Kian, and if you are anything like me fell just a little in love with them. Mattie and her Ponies are every bit as adorable as ever, but Sage really shined. We learned about her broken heart and her lost love, but in Conall's coming home we really see all she had gone through and just how strong she truly had to be to merely survive. Conall was blindsided by the effects his choice to leave had on Sage, and how much he truly lost by staying away for 5 years, years he can never get back with the daughter he didn't know he had. In this second chance story, Conall has to prove he can be the man he needs to be and can stick out even the toughest situations to win his family. This is one of my favorite books by Sibylla Matilde, I laughed and darn it I even cried a little! Thank you so much for the ARC.
This book is a hot read, but also a very emotional read.
From the very start we are left puzzled due to Conall's behaviour towards Sage when she particularly needs a friend.
We are then left wondering what the hell happened as he does something she didn't think he would ever do.
What he finds when he returns shocks him to the core, and leaves him reeling. Does he have the chance to make amends for his past mistakes? Does Sage have it in her to forgive his actions and move forward with her life? And what happens when the consequences of his past actions appear more real than he could ever have imagined?
A lot of emotion lies within the pages of this story as Sage and Conall try to find a way forward. Whether that is together or not remains to be seen. We also meet up with the characters from book 1 in the series, Because of Kian.
I love the way the author writes and I look forward to reading more from her.
I thought Sib's last book was my favourite - then I read Always Conall ..... We first met Sage & Mattie in Because of Kian, and this story is as much about Mattie as it is Sage & Conall (infact I think Mattie stole the show!!)
I dont want to give the game away but basically 5 years after her world is turned upside down Sage is just starting to get her life in gear until one day Conall appears back in Bitteroot and she knows life for her & Mattie will never be the same again.
A beautiful story of reconnection and new discoveries with one of the sweetest epilogues I have ever read.
I really didn't think anyone could out do Kian for me but omg I LOVED Conall!!!!!!
This book was brilliant the dynamic between Sage, Conall and Mattie was so believable I could understand every fear Sage and Conall had it didn't feel like any unnecessary drama was added it was sooo well written!!!! I loved Conall he really stepped up when he needed to and Sage was a lovely strong woman I loved them together it was perfect!!!! Mattie was adorable I want the 3 of them to have another book maybe just a short novella ;) ;) ;) what do u say Sibylla???? I'll be ur best friend forever!!!!!
Sibylla Matilde has outdone herself this time. Always Conall is her best novel yet.
In the second installment of her Bitterroot series, we are given Brynn and Kian's friend, Sage Nichols' story. While learning about what happened to her and Conall and their fight for love, you won't be able to stop yourself from falling in love with their Five year old, Chatty Cathy, My Little Pony loving Mattie. She stole my heart and I'm sure she will yours too.
I received a copy from the author in return for an honest review.
Loved. This. Book.
One thing that I'm always amazed about by Sibylla's books is how real they are. Not some contrived, far fetched plot, etc. No, her books reflect real life situations and emotions. And written so well too.
I could not put this book down! Another great read from Sibylla, I went on a reading bender and read untill 4 am! A must read especially if you read the first book in the series. Happy Reading!
“I love you. I always have, since forever. It's always been you, Conall.”

Conall was here. I wanted to cry. I wanted to hide. I wanted to drink. I wanted to... wrap my arms around him and never let go. My pulse felt erratic, and my thoughts jumbled around in my brain. I felt like a hyperactive, bipolar schizophrenic on crack.
~Sage Nichols has loved Conall McAllister her entire life , all she ever wished for was for him to see her as more than her brother Matt's younger sister, the girl they always torment, the one who follows them around; she just wants him to see her. But tragedy strikes when she least expects it, taking away everyone she loves one by one; her dad's heart-attack, her brother's car accident, her mothers slipping sanity. And just when she thinks things couldn't possibly get any worse, Conall skips town with barely a goodbye, abandoning her but leaving a piece of himself behind. Sixteen year old Sage is forced to grow up overnight weather she's ready or not.
~Five years later, Sage is finally starting to get to a place in her life where she feels like she'll be okay. She has worked hard to get to where she is and is finding it a little easier to breathe. She still misses Conall with a fierceness and hates him for leaving her when she needed him the most, but that doesn't change the fact that she will always love him-no matter how much it hurts. That's when her life takes a turn she never saw coming~Conall comes back to town. The boy she has loved her entire life has grown into quite a man, one who has no idea of the mess he left behind. A mess he is determined to make up for, even if she fights him tooth and nail. The more time they spend together, the more Sage loses control of her tightly reined emotions; she has dreamed of his return for five long years, but now that he's back she is scared to death to let him in again. After all, he will just end up leaving her again-that's what he does, isn't it? Can Conall convince her that he is here for good this time or will her abandonment issues send him running when it gets too hard?
“Right. Who we fuck is our own business. I forgot.” “You know, I waited. For years. And you didn't even fucking call me. And now you just want me to drop everything when I don't even know how long you're going to be here. What the fuck, Conall? You don't get to make me feel like shit for wanting a halfway normal life.”
This book had everything I love about a good second chance book. Lots of drama, tons of angst, a whole crew of amazing characters and enough sexual tension to melt your kindle. I mean seriously, the chemistry between these two was off-the-charts and it caused some crazy situations; both good and bad. I have never seen so much stubbornness between two people, it caused a lot of fighting that's for sure. But no matter what happened, or what was said, the pull to each other never waned. The biggest hurdle they had to overcome was Sage's fear of abandonment, which was huge and rightfully so. No matter Conall's intentions for leaving in the first place, he caused quite a bit of damage and Sage most definitely made him work for it; I loved that about her. The only thing that drives me crazier than insta-love, is someone who is too quick to forgive. I am all for forgiveness, I am not someone to hold a grudge myself, but there is something to be said about a little bit of groveling-no one should roll over too easily, I don't want any doormats in my stories. In the end, Sibylla Matilde delivered us a heartfelt story that will grab your attention right from the beginning and will not let go. She has earned her spot on my 'One-Click Addiction List' without a doubt and I don't see her going anywhere anytime soon.
He was, quite simply, the love of my life. He had been all my life. The only constant, even when he was gone, really. His absence had made me stronger, but never made my love wane. While it had been tinged with other emotions, the deep, intense love always won out.
“I love you. I always have, since forever. It's always been you, Conall.”

While it had been tinged with other emotions, the deep, intense love always won out.
where shall I even start. Another 5 star read from Sibylla Matilde. She is one of those authors that I will read everything she puts out. Because of Kian (bitterroot #1) is the first book in the Bitterroot Series. I didn't get to read Because of Kian right away, I know, I know **Hangs Head in Shame**. But anyways, I read it and LOVED it. Sad actually I didn't read it sooner. ok So I'll wait a second so you can go one click.. And while you’re there you might as well one click Always Conall also. I'll tell you why you want to when you get back..... ..... ...... Ok your back. So here is why I love this series.
I absolutely love Sage's Character. She is a strong individual raising her little Mattie on her own after unforeseen circumstances. But she was a pro. She might have struggled as a single parent trying to make her way, but she never asked for handouts and she hated asking for help. I felt for Sage. I could understand the hardships she had to endear. But she didn't complain about any of it or blame other people; I love that in a heroine.
Then we have Conall. Gosh this man. He had the people around him that cared for him as their own family, until one faithful night he didn't think he deserved their love. So he ran. He did the only thing he thought was best. So here I am thinking. WTH quit running and stay. Just stay, you have too. Right off the bat I wasn't sure what I would think about Conall. Not off to a great start in my book. But oh does he make up for it. I ended up falling in love with Conall. I might not have liked the fact that he left. But I get it. and like other people, I can forgive him for it. Conall ended up being the perfect amount of man. There is no other way to describe him. Now we are here 5 years later. And Conall sees everything he has missed out on. Now is his time. Does he take the new information he has learned and become a better man out of it or does he leave like he left all those years ago because he didn't know how to handle everything. I told you just a little about the story so here is why I loved the book. It was a refreshing read. Sage wasn't needy, or whiny. Just because Conall came back in the picture she didn't go running to him for support or expect him to pick up the slack. Conall on the other hand; he wanted to take care of Sage. He wanted to be the man he should have been 5 years ago and then some and he wanted to make up for it. The Plot was flawlessly executed. There weren’t any holes in the story. If I had any questions, they were answered. As always Sibylla has carried out another 5 star read. I have loved watching her grow as a writer and I am only even more excited to see where she will take us in the future.
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. The first book that I ever read by this author blew me away...Because of Kian was a complicated and kinky and yet beautifully tender love story of trust, healing and forgiveness. It seems to me that Sibylla Matilde has a gift for writing these very real-life kind of stories and most women can relate to her female characters. A young girl's first big crush morphed into a real long-lasting love that stands the test of time...a fmily tragedy that leaves many people in various states of shock and will affect how they deal with all future relationships...and a one night of passion that results in a consequence destined to bring the players back together. I loved that Kian and Brynn were very involved with this story as well (Brynn herself knows all about learning to trust a man again) and became the voices of reason for both Conall and Sage as their lives once again became entwined and butted head-on in some fierce misunderstandings and reckonings. Sage is not the innocent "little sister" of Conall's best friend Matt anymore, but a single parent and soon-to-be registered nurse who can take care of herself and her daughter, thank you very much... and he has come back from 5 years in the military, still a sad loner filled with guilt and regret for many of his actions from many years ago. This is a sweet and tender "coming-of-age-after-the-fact" type of romance with more of a family oriented slant and less of the gritty kink of the previous couple's book. Don't get me wrong...when Conall and Sage DO finally connect, it is nothing short of hot and sizzling fireworks...but the whole story plays out in the presence and with respect given to a little girl and everything that is done is more or less for her well-being and out of a deep love for family. This was a lovely book about second chances and coming home again, even when you don't think it is possible or in the cards for you or even the right thing to do! Enjoyable enough for hardcore romance readers as well as those who like a little softer touch to their new adult novels.
