A decent overview of pro hockey circa 1976. Statistically primitive by today standards, the book was, if not cutting edge, statistically progressive for its time. It's fascinating from the vantage point of 2012 to read about the salary explosion of the early 70's when the average salary went from 23,000 in 1972 to 85,000 in 1976. The players were still underpaid. It's also interesting to read about a time when playoff money was a significant factor in a player's yearly salary. Unfortunately, as the upcoming NHL lockout shows, the owners are still intent on crushing the players union and rolling back the legitimate gains that the players have made over the years.
