Prince Mako Delmar lives life at breakneck speed - adventurous, a daredevil, reckless. He loves a good adrenaline rush, especially when it involves ditching his royal bodyguards.
He expects a holiday chock full of thrills when he travels to South Africa and comes face-to-face with the ultimate in high adventure – breaching Great White Sharks. What he doesn’t count on is crossing paths with the lovely American heiress, Harlow Karnes, whose beauty and charm pit Mako against his friends and distract him from the things he loves most. But he soon learns that people are not always what they seem.
After a series of unexpected events, Mako is forced to reconsider his impulsive lifestyle, but is it too late?
Well, I'm the author, so of course I liked it. Why would I write it otherwise? Actually, of the 4 books currently in the series, this one is my favorite. I had the most fun planning and plotting and writing this one. While I love Merrick Delmar (the older son of Dylan and Terra) for his soft-spoken nature and kind heart and adherence to all things formal, I love Mako Delmar (their younger son) for being the wild child, the one who craves adventure and excitement. He is the one who will take over for his father, Dylan, at the Delmar Shark Institute when he's older, so his love for all sharks endears him to me. I wanted to take him to South Africa in this story to see the world renowned breaching sharks of False Bay, and oh, he does! But he also meets a eyelash-fluttering, porcelain-skinned beauty who distracts him from...well, everything. He's a full-throttle kind of guy who might have just met his match...or perhaps a brick wall. I'm not telling!
3.5 Stars - I actually enjoyed this one more than the last two in the series because it had a better plot line that didn't center around just finding true love and there were also breaching great whites in it, which I love so that didn't hurt either ;).
Austin Delmar - nicknamed Mako because of his ability at swimming and his fascination with sharks - is training to take over the Delmar Shark Institute from his father. His father is married to the Queen of Isola de Squalo, a small island in the mediterranean. All his life, Mako has loathed the restrictions his bodyguards have placed on him and manages to slip their scrutiny as often as possible, despite warnings of the dangers. Now, in South Africa to study the sharks breaching there, he meets the devastatingly lovely Harlow Karnes. Totally unprepared for his reaction to her, he struggles to hold it together and not rush into things. Harlow is a spoilt little rich girl, and she is used to being able to wrap people round her little finger. Frustrated by Mako's determination not to sleep with her, she pulls out all the stops and Mako is on the brink of succumbing to her. Desperate to meet her without surveillance, he slips his bodyguards yet again, this time with his cousin Karl, to meet up with Harlow in the city. But, someone is waiting for him. Has he risked himself and his cousin once too often? Who is shadowing him? Will he evade them? This is full of "Oh my goodness!" moments, from when they tussle with a shark who gets too close for comfort, through to comic moments as Harlow tries to keep up with Mako's interests and win his love, to the shocking climax at the end of the book. You won't fall asleep reading this. I have bought all of this series from Heidi Peltier so far, and I will certainly be buying the next in the series.
