Charlie Madison is a burned out Special Forces Agent and his world is about to be turned upside down. When his 13-year-old niece barges into his reclusive life, Charlie must come out of retirement to rescue her parents and a computer Program that has recorded the actual Voice of God--the implications of which have shaken the world's religions to their core. Together, with the help of the attractive and mysterious Lisa Harmon, Charlie and his niece circle the globe, tracking down the religious radicals who have kidnapped his sister and brother-in-law. But, there is far more at stake than the safety of the parents or even religion. If the Voice of God created reality, It can destroy it. If controlled, It would become a weapon of mass destruction making all others obsolete. Soon the trio not only fights against various religious powers, but major governments as well . . . until the Program is discovered and played back with unimaginable results.

Bill Myers was born into a Christian home, and although as a child he became bored with Christianity, he decided at the University of Washington quote, to "make God my boss." Ironically, at the University his worst subject was writing. He claims to have prayed, and said that he would be able to do anything for God, except write. Even so, he has become a prominent Christian writer, and has a large amount of successful books and films to his credit.

Ever seen a movie or TV show or played a video or computer game that had a strange plot, but still was able to draw you in, and wouldn't let you go until it ended? The Voice (not to be confused with the current NBC singing competition) by Bill Myers is much like that. The story is decidedly weird; people who were able to capture the voice of God on an audio recording have to keep said sound file from getting into the wrong hands, or else serious havoc will be wrought? Even stranger are some of the ideas the book presents; without giving too much away, The Voice's characters claim that most Christians' idea of where a very important Biblical event happened is incorrect, which sounds like something from The Da Vinci Code or Richard Dawkins' writings, not a Christian novel. As bad as that may seem, it didn't keep me from being seriously engrossed in The Voice, especially when I first sat down to read it yesterday; I had planned on just reading a chapter or two before walking home, but, next thing I knew, I had already made it to the thirteenth chapter. If you're a fan of Christian fiction and can accept this book as just that--fiction--then, this is probably worth a read. I made a special request at my local library to get a copy of The Voice, just because I had bought its sequel, Angel of Wrath, without knowing it was part of a series. After reading The Voice, I'm curious as to where this story arc will go. I'll definitely post a review; you can be sure of that!

This book was so good. It races from the prologue to the epilogue. I wish I could wipe out my memory so I could read this book again. In fact, I may just read it again anyway. At one point, his description of God's all-mighty power so connected with me I had to stop and talk about it!

I really liked this. A quick, easy read, although I did get lost a few times with all the sciency talk and whatnot. But as it got closer to the end, with their encounters with The Voice... made me stop and wonder what it would be like if we were in complete harmony with God. And the main character, Charlie, realized that just like the rocks, we are changed by our exposure to God, to The Voice. ‘The rock was still a rock but and yet the presence of God had changed it... the longer God’s presence remained, the deeper the change.’

Although this book doesn't include the direct spiritual warfare often seen in Frank Peretti's books, it does have a fast-paced plot full of danger, and the stakes have never been higher. The action in this inspirational thriller should satisfy Peretti fans.

I would give three and a half stars if that were an option. Whatever genre, whether sci-fi/fantasy, romance, western, historical, etc., my absolute favorite books are those that deeply explore character development and relationship through well-written, compelling conversation and personal encounters, along with a meaningful and convincing story and plot of course! This book reads more like a script idea for a typical action movie, which might be the very thing that recommends it to some readers! For me it just felt a little wearying as it moved from one car chase to explosion to escape scene to another. Still, a great book to pass the time, keeps you going from start to finish, just not one that moves you or makes you ever desire to read it again.

This was an interesting experience. Halfway through the book I shelved it away as "Did not finish" but months later, picked it back up and I'm glad I did.

Imagine if science was able to extrapolate the voice of God? For theocratic nations, such a thing would prove either good or bad depending on which mountain that voice is found. It was definitely an interesting take on the subject and as another reviewer pointed out, it definitely would play well for a movie.

Such a great read. The sequence where everything starts to return to original, unadulterated form will make your head spin, and think things that kind of make you shudder. I think this is vague enough to not be considered a spoiler.

"WHAT IF THE VOICE OF GOD HAS BEEN CAPTURED ON TAPE? WHAT IF IT REFUTES THE FOUNDATIONS OF JUDEO-CHRISTIAN BELIEF? WHAT IF ITS POWER COULD DISSOLVE THE VERY REALITY IT CREATED?"

This is one great "Mission Impossible" story. It's full of suspense, bad guys doing what it takes to get their hands on the secret weapon, bombs exploding and lots of gun fire. Charles Madison, X-FBI agent is one lean mean fighting machine. He's just like the energizer bunny “takes a licken and keeps ticken!” When Jazmin runs to her uncle Charlie for help, all heck breaks lose. Her parents have been captured by the enemy because they want the technology her parents have developed. Jazmin explained the top secret research her parents have been working on that could change the world, and how we hear and see God.

Charlie is a little overwhelmed as Jazmin explains all this scientific stuff (he wasn't the only one). Later on, a priest attempts to explain the project again (hooray). He says that the whole world can be reduced to patterns and mathematical formulas â" including "the voice", which would be the greatest mathematical formula ever discovered!

Why could such a discovery be a threat? Why would everyone want the "voiceprint" of God? According to Gen. 1:4 "God said, let there be light," and there was light. He spoke it into existence. In John 1:1 it says "In the beginning was the Word ("spoken" word) , the Word was with God, and the Word was God". It also says in the bible that the "rocks will cry out His glory if we don't praise Him". I always thought this was a figure of speech â" not something that could actually happen, or something that I could hear for myself. Whoever owned this technology (according to Jazmin and the Priest) would be able use God's power. In this story they have discovered power in the vibration of rocks" they wanted to use it for good â" others wanted to use it to destroy their enemies.

The premise of this book is based on technology that has captured the mathematical formula from rocks and is able to translate it into the "Voice" of God; that created the heavens and the earth by a spoken word. Powerful stuff! I was going along with this theory up until the rocks cried out messages â" they translated and understood. I have loved Bill Myers and the books he's written over the years, (Agent Dingledorf for kids, his teen series he wrote about spiritual warfare, the Wager and Eli! ) Each of these books have their own unique style, message, and emotional thrill ride. I expected nothing less from this book! The author is a man that writes about things that often time push the envelope of "normal".

So, I dug deeper into this "Voice" scenario on the internet. Could this really happen? That is when I discovered the most surprising things being researched and acted on right now. For example, science says "Motion equals vibration, vibration equals sound". The bible said in the word was God (word " vibration equals "voiceprint" of God).

"The law of vibration is the basis of manifestation. Everything is in a constant state of vibration and motion". There really are people studying vibrations from rocks (much like the technology we use to detect earthquakes) and have come up with patterns (not kidding â" check it out!). You can buy equipment to decipher these vibrations to get patterns. They are close to finding out the actual message the rocks are putting out from the activity detected. If we could hear the rocks cry out, what would they say? Would they verify biblical events? Interesting to think about

Bill Myers is an author on the cutting edge in many of his books, and this one is no exception. After I understood that the technology in this book is real and people are really researching "vibrations, etc", the book came together for me and it will you too. Be prepared to have your socks knocked off by the message and possibilities found in this story. You will view life very differently after reading this very exciting book.

What if the voice of God has been captured on tape? What if it refutes the foundations of Judeo-Christian belief? What if its power could dissolve the very reality it created?
The Voice of God. The ultimate weapon of mass destruction. The Voice is a great example of a typical Bill Myers book... portions of action, suspense and a very thought-provoking plot. To be honest, I found The Voice quite hard to get into and not as enjoyable as others he has written, so much so that I considered stopping reading it a couple of times when I was half way through! I am glad I read it to the end though, as the last half of the book was definitely better than the first, and I loved how Myers weaved accurate Biblical archeology throughout.

In conclusion, I have enjoyed far more books than The Voice, but as so often happens, all people are different, and appreciate different writers and genres... I notice the average rating on Amazon is 4.5 stars (perhaps Burton or Jon should give a second opinion ;-) If you enjoy a thought-provoking suspenseful story interlaced with Biblical archeology, overlaid with super-natural elements, then you may enjoy this book.

"A prolific pioneer of Christian fiction, nonfiction, film, television, audio drama, and who knows what else, Bill Myers now sets out to write a crisp, express-train read featuring 3D characters, cinematic settings, and action, and, as usual, a premise I wish I'd thought of--and succeeds splendidly! Two thumbs up!" (Frank E. Peretti )

A sequel to The Voice is to be released this year, entitled Angel of Wrath.

It's an odd story. Boy meets girl. Boy's niece bursts into store and declares her parents have been kidnapped. Boy takes girl's car to rescue niece's parents. Girl turns out to be an agent assigned to...... well, you'll find out. Yes it's religious, but not overbearingly so. The non-Christians are very much plucked from the big book of middle Eastern stereotypes... but given the context, it kinda works. The niece is a strong character who is very likeable and appropriate for the story. I particularly liked the way even at the end of the story, all the remaining players struggled to reconcile what had happened to their own view of the world. I'd consider reading more by this author.

Another excellent genre-spanning book from Mr. Myers. Though perhaps not as profound of a work as "Eli", I still really enjoyed this book. Rumor has it, there is a sequel coming in April, which I will definitely want to read as well.

I will never think of rocks crying out there same again. Typical Bill Meyers - fast moving and fun to read, but he adds things that are impossible or unexplained characters to make the story work which is disappointing. I still liked and enjoyed reading “ The Voice”

Concept was great, tone was preachy, and all characters seemed to miss the point at the end of the book. Don't regret reading it, but wouldn't recommend it.
