I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Parson Ironerose lives in near isolation with his cruel uncle. But his life changes when his aunt takes him away to attend Belcon, an academy where magic and warfare are taught.

He forms a magical bond with the beautiful half elphven princess Elara. But in a world where elphves have their powers bound and dark creatures lurk, there are secrets and dangers he must now navigate.

A Cage of Flowers drew me in almost immediately. The continuous adventures, questions, and feeling that something wasn’t quite right kept me reading into the night way longer than I should’ve.

The writing was descriptive but not overdone. Despite the large number of secondary characters they were well developed and I became invested in each of them.

I loved the dual POV.

I also appreciated that the characters were young adults, not 16-year-olds written into an adult world.

And I was not prepared for the twist at the end. I really enjoyed this book and can’t wait for Book 2.

“After everything she had done, he still loved her.”

This book was everything I have been looking for when it comes to being a Harry Potter fan as a child.
You first follow Parson who has had it rough with his Uncle a grade A (insert biggest insult) watching his Aunt and swoop in with his cousins. I love the whole dynamic his cousins have the love you feel from his Aunt and Uncle.

The details in the description given when it comes to the school makes it feel real. Jordan Lanio-Burns is just a visual storyteller when it comes to her writing, you really get a beautiful grasp on how the scene looks, the characters are so well rounded and feel real. I felt like I was truly part of the Ironerose Vangaurd.

Without spoiling this book will deliver you your heart on a platter, the spice is delicious but then it’ll take your heart and just rip it out! I cannot wait for book 2 so Jordan can put my heart back in my chest!! An amazing read can’t recommend this enough!

Oh this book I read in a day.

It was so cozy. The Cinderella beginning in the kitchens, the orphan shame, it got me into all the feels.

Then we get to Belcon and the academy vibes are there.

“Magic can be categorized into elemental, physical and inherent forms.” I knew that inherent one wasn’t a casual mention!

I giggled at the Step brother reference “plenty of room for activities!”

While reading I thought, nice YA, but then a steamy scene appeared, Yasss.

As always at the end of book one in the series there are so many questions. I can’t wait for book two.
