This trilogy is phenomenally well written. The descriptions are spot on, while remaining quite enthralling and entertaining. I love that this novel is mythologically, historically and scientifically accurate. I also like the fact that Pohler includes a variety of Greek gods in her writing, rather than simply using the Olympiad as so many authors attempting to write about Greek mythology do. And Pohler doesn't just attempt to write a world based on Greek mythology. She succeeds. Pohler has not only researched her facts with respect to mythology, but with her novel as a whole. Even the trail riding and equine aspects of this novel, where present, are factual. It adds an entirely new level to the story, making it even more complex and enjoyable. Pohler manages to seamlessly blend mythology with reality to create an awesome world for readers to get lost in.

Pohler is very detailed in her writing. Everything is precisely worded to convey a specific thought, feeling, or image. Each and every word seems to have been carefully chosen to build a cohesive overall picture. Everything is vivid and extremely well laid out. She creates a world that you can imagine yourself walking into. I also appreciate the differentiation in writing style between Earth and Olympus. Everything on Olympus is much larger and more elaborate than Earth, as it should be. Her writing also sports an intensity rarely seen in a YA novel, while also giving you some very good laughs.

The characters in this novel are quite well developed. You may not know their entire life histories, but you do get to know everything that is pertinent to the story and to let you get to know the characters. It was very refreshing to read a story by an author who can differentiate between necessary development to create a well-developed character, and giving an entire life history that slows down the storyline because it isn't actually relevant to the plot. Not only that, but character development continues with leaps and bounds throughout the trilogy. These individuals grow and mature the way that normal high school students do, even if some of them have challenges or fears that most of us will never face. Overall, her character development is unique in that the characters, regardless of their age, learn and admit things about themselves as we learn them. Self-growth and realisation is a never-ending process in this story.

These novels combine into one fantastic trilogy. I felt a sense of completeness at the end, even though I can see the opening for further stories and still want more time with these amazing characters who have wormed their way into my heart. This mythologically infused trio of stories is a fantastic escape from reality for YA lovers of all ages.

Finished book one last night. I find certain aspects of the story intriguing; however, there is a juvinility (is that a word?) to the writing that rubs me the wrong way. And there's instalove (even though she denies it for like two whole days THANKS FOR HOLDING OUT, GIRL. Can't tell if the author is from England, San Antonio, TX, or Colorado (ironically I'm from San Antonio and obsessed with British culture, so I knew a lot of the references the author gave. But it all seemed so mish-mash, that it made the story feel clunky at times). Idk, I couldn't bring myself to love this first book. I'll try to read the next two (it downloaded in a trilogy, and it was free so I might as well give it a try). I just don't love a naive MC. I keep having to remind myself she's 15...but also a thousands-year-old god shouldn't be interested in this dumb 15-year-old. Just saying.
So far, 3 stars. Might change that as I read the next two installments.

Alright, just finished book two. There were still so many parts where I was like "Therese, you freaking moron" especially at the end when...well, let's just say she was so close to getting what she wanted and stupidly did a stupid thing that meant she couldn't get it. Also, I didn't love how much of this story's plot seemed to mimic certain aspects of the second Twilight book New Moon (the whole taking drugs to experience near death and see loved ones/love interests). There were certain scenes, like more animal deaths (or technically, a near-death in this case) that didn't seem like they fit in with the plot except to maybe reinforce something that happened in the first book. It interrupted the flow and didn't make much sense. And I still don't see what Than sees in Therese. Yeah, she's a good person but she's just so DUMB. How much dumb do you need to cancel out the good qualities??
For me, it's between 2.5 and 3 stars at this point.

I give up. A few chapters in to the third book I realized I had no desire to finish it. I hadn't connected to the characters, I found the MC annoying (still. The author fell into the trap of letting the plot dictate what happens and not the characters). Character-driven stories are always better than plot-driven ones, and that's mainly what spoiled it for me. I jumped to the last 30 pages or so to skim to see what happens and it sounds like a lot of dumb stuff happened in the parts I skipped so I'm glad I didn't go through the process of reading it. I guess, technically, this last one was a DNF for me.
Final rating: Sorry, but it's gone down to a 1.5 to 2 stars for me.

I didn’t know much about Greek mythology before reading this so it all seems so real to me. The different gods and goddesses are very interesting. I love Poseidon and Hades. Ares is a pain in the ass for no good reason. Theres is in love with Death, Thanatos. She can’t be in his presence without dying. But in her dreams, she can. If she completes a set of challenges, she will become a goddess. After that, she must find her purpose of she will return to being mortal. But what purpose will she choose? All the good ones are taken.

Thanatos is sexy and has a good personality. I really like his character. Now that the author has went back and made Therese older, it has made a huge difference. I never felt she was as young as the original text. There was just too much responsibility and decisions to make at the younger age. Not that it wouldn’t be possible. I listened to the audiobooks to these plus read some. The narrator is excellent.

This is as good as I thought it might be after reading the Vampires of Athens series. I was only going to read the first three books in this series but as with the vampire series this has pulled me into the story I am now going to read books 4-6. I have only just discovered this author but I shall be looking out for more of her works as they are well written and the plots and twists and turns keeps you reading and wanting more.

The Gatekeeper's Trilogy is the first three books in the EPIC Gatekeeper's Saga. It is absolutely my favorite YA Mythology series. It's such a fun ride to watch the main characters Therese and Than meet, fall in love, grow up and evolve into amazing people.

Eva's writing is very easy to read and she will draw you in from the first chapter on. Her attention to detail is fabulous. She is a genius at weaving Greek Mythology and modern life effortlessly. The characters are all very strong and realistic so we can relate to them easily. The God's personalities make it easy to fall in love with them from the beginning. This is a series you will want to read more than once, so do yourself a favor and dive in to this magical world!

Gods and their petty quarrels

Therese can't understand why her parents were killed. Then she meets Hypnos, the God is Dreams and flies through her dreams towards their souls. Meeting Thanatos, the God of Death, she begins the transition from mortal to immortal.
Angering some of the Gods on the way. Can she overcome everything to win her p!ace among them?
A must read for all lovers of the Greeks Gods and how they !I've the play with the mortal world.

I love this series. Eva gives her own twist to Greek mythology and creates stories and characters you fall in love with. I chose to read all six. I highly recommend these especially if you enjoy Percy Jackson. I love Therese and Thans story. Its not an easy journey for them. This is definitely one of my favorites by Eva.

I absolutely loved the trilogy. Books like this are rare to find where mythology is taken and made into such a unique way that takes from the myths themselves but arranged into something new that the author creates. It’s a process of defining and creating your own version of myths instead of just going with the original myth.
What I really loved about this trilogy though was that you grow with the character Therese. I rarely find books that take the character from such a young age of the modern era and put them in for such a wild ride.
From mortality to godhood Therese goes through the ups and downs that teenagers go through with the added effect of having the god of death as her boyfriend and true love. So yeah not so normal but oh so enjoyable to read.
The Underworld family is undeniably the best of the best when it comes to gods to respect. And I’m glad Therese will be apart of it.

Greek Mythology and Modern Humans All Mixed Up

This is an interesting three book set that starts out with an interesting premise and love between the god Death and a human girl is a nice romance. All the trials and pain this couple suffers throughout these three books as they try and stay together is inspiring. However I felt that the third book rushed to an ending and was done. The boy almost got the girl, I think?

I really liked the idea of these books. I felt the first one was pretty good but after it the next 2 just felt flat I wasn't as interested anymore. I love Greek Mythology but the way the characters where written just didn't do it for me. And I think it had a lot to do with Therese. Maybe I just didn't really like her.

I have to admit I was not as impressed with this series as I hoped to the after reading the prequel. It made it easy to understand who everyone is and how they fit in, but it did get a bit boring here and there. Loved the first book, liked the second book and barely made it through the 3rd book, but all in all it's a nice series, easy to read and follow.

DNF. I liked the premise of this book but it just felt like it was geared for a very young audience even though there were young adult to adult theme items in the story. Maybe the main character made it seem like this since she sounds so child like younger than the 15 she is portrayed as. Just didnt vibe with me at all. I was disappointed as I am a Greek mythology fan.

The Gatekeeper’s Trilogy is the first 3 books in the Gatekeeper’s Saga. From the very beginning you are drawn into Greek Mythology in present day. I found the theme very interesting and difficult to put down. This read was one of my first young adult favorites.

Teenage Angst on Full Display in Mythological Trappings

Nice interweaving of myth. Lots of emotional drama. Greek deities great and small on display in all their grace, pettiness, flaws and strengths. A fun read if not wrapped up in a pretty package.

Good book!!

It was a good book. There were parts that could have extended it a little and other parts that could be taken out. I wish we could get other back stories on the Gods. Good read. Glad I read it.

Interesting premise

But the execution was juvenile. I realize that this is a ya book, but that doesn't excuse silly plot twists.
