With two of the Jerusalem Stones in hand, Jack and his friends must race the clock to find the remaining Stones as Ren Lucre's Creach forces gather strength. With two of their group now with Creach blood flowing in their veins, the team will be tested as never before. They must unite together if they have any hope of surviving their journey to the Underworld and their battle with the vicious Lord of the Demons. The fate of the entire world hangs in the balance.
Jeff Gunhus is the USA TODAY bestselling author of thriller and horror novels for adults and the middle grade series, The Jack Templar Chronicles. The first book, Jack Templar Monster Hunter, was written in an effort to get his reluctant reader eleven-year old son excited about reading. It worked and a new series was born. His books are available in several languages, been Foreword Reviews Book of the Year Finalists, and reached the USA TODAY bestseller list.
After his experience with his son, he is passionate about helping parents reach young reluctant readers and is active in child literacy issues. As a father of five, he leads an active lifestyle in Maryland with his wife Nicole by trying to constantly keep up with their kids. In rare moments of quiet, he can be found in the back of the City Dock Cafe in Annapolis working on his next novel.
This series continues to be outstanding! Jack Templar and his buddies face their most difficult challenge yet as they must travel through a secret portal to the Underworld in order to steal an ancient talisman. Fast paced and action-packed, there is never a dull minute as Jack and his friends face their greatest fears, and are confronted with difficult choices. Getting assistance from a couple of unexpected sources helps them locate the elusive portal but there are always additional obstacles to hinder their progress.
I enjoyed the story and eagerly await the next installation.
This book was given to me in exchange for my honest review.
Jeff Gunhus did it again! The 5th book in The Templar Chronicles; Lord of the Demons is a fantastic, fast-paced adventure that both kids and Adults would enjoy. Jack Templar and his group of Monster Hunters (some are slightly changed but alas they are hunters at heart) have set off to gain the third Jerusalem stones, as usual, their paths are rarely smooth sailing and they encounter many bizarre and dangerous beings on the way.
Lord of the Demons is like all the other Templar Chronicles, it's fast-paced, adventure-filled, nail-biting and scary at the best of times, what makes this series so much more enjoyable than some is the great characters that we get to know through their adventures. I love how I've seen the growth of the characters, how they've grown as a group and also individually. I really love the dynamics between their little group and found myself laughing out loud when they were bickering amongst each other.
I really love the camaraderie between them, and it was so easy to forget how young they are. They had maturity at the best of times but also the purity of a child's mind and I think that's what I love about the book, children aren't afraid to say what they think, and I like those dialogues when one of them would say things lacking filter, things that adults could only dream about saying out loud.
As usual the journey is tumultuous and dangerous and like all the books in the Templar Chronicles they are all fast paced and filled with adventures. Its definitely a series that you find yourself flipping through the pages and constantly saying "just one more chapter" and then at the end you find yourself breathless and unable to fully articulate in words how damn awesome the story was! I love this series and I could only imagine how much more fantastic it would have been if I read it when I was a child, this is certainly a series that can be enjoyed and appreciated by all age groups.
One of my favourite parts of the books still remain to be the "Warning" at the beginning, I find it really sets the mood and tone for the tumultuous and adventurous journey that anyone that continues to read the book will find themselves in.
I really want to know the mystery of Jack's parents. What are the secrets that people are hinting at? I have enjoyed reading this series. In the last couple of days I have reread the first 3 books and the 4 th book and now this one. They have all been constant and exciting. There has been plenty of drama, monsters, demons and teenage heroes as the sixth main characters continue on their quest to find the Jerusalem Stones. There are lots of fights between different creach and the Black Guard.
Jack Templar is a fourteen year old boy. Who might be the chosen one to reunite the Jerusalem stones and the Templar ring, so they can stop Lord of the Creach, Ren Lucre. Who plans to get all the creach (monsters) to war with the humans.
The Black Guard fight against monsters. Jack has been one for less than a year. Jack also learned that Ren Lucre is his grandfather and tried to kill him. His father has been in Ren Lucre's prison for the past 13 years.
Eva is one of the instructors a teenager. She has been turned into a vampire against her will. She hopes with the stones reunited she can be turned back.
Will and T-Rex were Jack's best friends in school. They decided to go with him to school to become a monster hunter. There home life was bad.
Daniel has become a werewolf a week ago. He was a instructor and likes Eva too. Werewolves and vampires are sworn enemies. Xavier was at the school too. He is small but smart an inventor.
It has been said by an oracle that at least one of the six will die while on this mission. The friends are there for each other and mankind.
I thought one fun scene is a guard where the gate to the underworld might be is reading a Percy Jackson novel. I was thinking earlier it reminded me a little about that book too.
I will be looking forward for more books in this series. They have at least two more stones to collect.
I was given this ebook to read and in return agree to give a honest review and be part of it's blog tour.
This is the fifth book in this series and it's best to read them in order so you will understand what's going on. The author gives a warning at the beginning of each book to read these at your own peril, and they're getting shorter, which is nice. Because at this point, I'm all in and ready to just get started!
In this book, Jack and his friends need to go to the Underworld to get the next stone. It's a daunting task and is the scariest place they need to go so far, but they are willing to risk their lives for the cause. The group needs to continue to trust each other and that can be difficult at times since Eva and Daniel aren't human. That also gives them the desire to push forward and complete their mission.
As usual, this book moves at a fast pace and there was lots of action. What I loved about the last book was that there was more story and not as much action so this book fell a little short to me since I have lots of questions and didn't feel like there were any huge revelations like there have been in previous books. There were some things of interest, though, like meeting Bella and the Talib, learning more about the Templar Ring and Eva's question that will stay with Jack forever.
Like the other books, this is fun to read and has humor, danger and plot twists. It's a must-read in this series and I'm excited for the next one!!
I received a copy of this book to review. My opinion is 100% my own.
This review first appeared on my blog Christy's Cozy Corners.
Jack Templar and the Lord of the Demons is the 5th book I have read in this series and the 7th book I’ve read by Jeff Gunhus. He has become one of my favorite authors! This Jack Templar series is so good! I am not sure why it’s not being talked about everywhere. The characters in these books are so well developed and the progression the story takes is so much fun to follow. In this book, Jack is still searching for the Jerusalem stones and has to face the Lord of the Demons! Not a fun task…
If you haven’t read the first four books in the series, you are going to want to start with them. Like the Harry Potter or Percy Jackson books, you can’t just jump in with book 5! You won’t have any idea what is going on! To sum up books 1-4 would just spoil it for you….but know this….if you read the books you’d better be prepared to fight monsters because they’ll be coming to get you! When you read the books, they just know. So be prepared!
I really love this series and cannot recommend it enough for those of you who have young readers in your house. I’d say ages 10+ would be fine.
This series continues to be super fun, even though the last two were a bit formulaic. Still, Jeff Gunhus always puts in enough that is weird, interesting, and unique that you just can't help enjoying the adventure.
