Heart's Desire #4

Warlock Unbound

Rate this book

The last Beckett brother is going down.

Heart’s Desire, Book 4

If he had a choice, Daniel Beckett would wait to cast the Beckett family mating spell until his life is more settled. But his brothers, worried he’s losing himself to his wolf, aren’t giving it to him.

Daniel doesn’t need a spell to know Kerry Andrews is his mate. With the last of the Godwin warlocks still on the loose, Daniel crosses his fingers that the willful, stubborn, beautiful woman will allow him to protect her.

Kerry is tempted to make Daniel wait, like he’s made her wait for so long. But the decision is taken out of her hands when things start going horribly wrong. A sleeper hex is activated, putting her life in danger—and the only safe place to run is Daniel’s waiting arms.

Once there, Kerry finds a whole new world to explore with her magical mate. But Arthur Godwin is plotting to rip away their newfound happiness. Women who look like Kerry are turning up dead…and it’s only a matter of time before the killer’s weapon hits its intended prey.

This title contains explicit sex, graphic language, a growly wizard and the woman who loves him.

Dana Marie Bell wrote her first short story when she was thirteen years old. She attended the High School for Creative and Performing Arts for creative writing, where freedom of expression was the order of the day. When her parents moved out of the city and placed her in a Catholic high school for her senior year she tried desperately to get away, but the nuns held fast, and she graduated with honors despite herself.

Dana has lived primarily in the Northeast (Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware, to be precise), with a brief stint on the US Virgin Island of St. Croix. She lives with her soul-mate and husband Dusty, their two maniacal children, an evil ice-cream stealing cat and a bull terrier that thinks it’s a Pekinese.

Considering the epilogue - it'll be interesting if the author revisits the family in 20 years.

Series Review!

Thanks to Netgalley who gifted me with a copy of Warlock Unbound which made me go buy the previous 3 books in the series. In exchange for the gift I give an honest review of the series.

I have read one other series of DMB and really enjoyed it. That series was a bit more silly and humour based and I totally loved it. This series is a bit more serious with a harder fantasy flavour what doesn't change is the use DMB makes of humour and snark to make her characters lovable and easy to relate to and care about.

This series is the story of 4 brothers who have to live with a curse...all three are magicians of one sort or another and the novels tell us their individual stories within the context of one larger family feud. No one can fault DMB's incredible writing, her stories are face paced and she gives us fully dimensional characters which make appearances through out each of the 4 novels..the story line is continuous and a back to back read such as I did really keeps you engrossed in the the world and in your feelings for the characters. In book 1 we have the family curse explained and throughout the series we learn of the impact on the family, we also learn of the different magical factions that make up the world in which the story takes place and how those factions help unite the family and those of magical intelligence.

I know lovers of PNR will enjoy each of these well written novels and fantasy lovers will embrace the world in which the stories take place. I have given all 4 novels a 4 star rating and that is where I will place the entire series. If you love witches, warlocks, sorcerers and magic with a dash of shifter this series will be on your favorite shelf immediately.

I'm sad that this is the last Heart's Desire book.

The final Beckett brother, Daniel, doesn't want to cast the Mate Spell till his enemy Arthur Godwin is dead. He knows who his mate is - Kerry, and he doesn't want her in any more danger than she's been in already. The Godwin's have already kidnapped her twice, tortured her, beaten her up and though they are all dead except for the spineless Arthur, he doesn't want to take any chances.

Kerry, a mundane, knows all about magic as her BFF, Lana is a witch, and it was explained to her when she was 16. Lana is now mated to one of Daniel's brothers. Kerry knows she is Daniel's mate and can't understand what is keeping him from casting the Mate Spell.

Lots of adventures, hexes, dead bodies, and imp possessed teens later we have a HEA and a truly good epilogue.

4.5 stars for a good conclusion to this series but lacking quality time with the two main H’s loses half a star.
A great fun read that brings the Beckett brothers and their mates to a wonderful close.
Lots happening as in previous books which I think really need to be read before this one otherwise some of it won’t make sense.
My only complaint would be I don’t feel Kerry and Daniel really had any couple time. Yes they have known they were mates for awhile but still haven’t spent any quality time together and didn’t get that in this book either. Their relationship felt compacted due to having to fit in everything else that needed to be done of which there was a lot.
A lot of covering the same ground for new readers is in this book and if you have been reading these through it gets tedious.
Plenty of repetition with the spells casting but some new ones thrown in.
Interesting twist with Kerry and what happens and I loved the epilogue, so cute.
I have read and reviewed from the back of this book previously but review is missing.

I've been waiting so long for this one in the series to come and I have to say I was a little bit disappointed in the storyline between Daniel and Kerry, especially as the other books have been building up to their story for such a long time. I felt compared to the other books the story was a bit lacking. But it was great to see the other characters and their partners and how they're still awesome couples and still dealing with this family of baddies who are out to get them.
I have greatly enjoyed finding a new author from this series though and look forward to reading more of Dana Marie Bell's work.

I wish I could say I loved this book but unfortunately I just didn't connect with this one. I really enjoyed all the other books in this series and I usually really enjoy DMB's books but this one just didn't catch my attention. :(

I just didn't connect with Daniel and Kerry like I did with the other characters and I found the story a bit boring. I think that this time around the story was just a little lacking.

Daniel Beckett is the last of the Beckett brothers (wizards and werewolves) to cast the spell that will bring his mate to him. For weeks now, Daniel has been fighting his brother’s demands that he cast the spell with everything he is worth.. It’s not that Daniel doesn’t know who that spell will bring to him or that he doesn’t want her with him, it’s that he just knows that by calling her, it will start something that could lead to everyone’s doom. But, finally, he has to give in and cast the spell, and hope.

Kerry Andrews also knows that she is Daniel’s mate, and she has acknowledged their attraction to each other long ago. But as a human and a nurse, she has no sway in the world that Daniel lives in even though Kerry has been getting help from one of the most powerful women wizards around, who is her best friend’s grandmother. Kerry has almost given up hope that Daniel will ever call her to his side when she just knows it has to happen.

What should have been a simple spell to bring Daniel and Kerry together, instead starts off a chain reaction that will put not only Kerry in danger, but will also reveal a hidden part of Kerry’s background that will have the potential to put her in even more danger than being targeted by the last of the evil Godwin warlock men. Daniel and Kerry will have to work fast and believe in their love strongly to end not only all the treats to Kerry’s life, but also the Godwin threat to all each of the Beckett’s holds dear. It comes down to a deadly fight of good power versus evil power, and the winners will win it all and, as normal, it appears that evil has stacked the deck.

Two lovers will fight not only for their right to a loving future, but for their very lives and those of their loved ones in Warlock Unbound. It seems like I waited forever to see Daniel finally accept Kerry as his mate, and I was happy to see him finally do it. I wasn’t surprised to learn that the Godwin wizard brothers had made a preemptive strike in this final round of their war against the Becketts. However, I loved watching as all the Becketts and their mates came together to help Daniel and Kerry with their fights and to help them discover a way that Daniel and Kerry could be together forever. While I enjoyed the final battle that ended the Godwin threat, I really loved being a fly on the wall on the family Samhain celebration the best. I can safely say that the next generation of Becketts will keep everyone on their toes even more than these brothers. Warlock Unbound is full of suspense and passion, with the perfect touches of humor and family bonding that will keep you turning the pages to see what will happen next.

Daniel Beckett doesn’t need a spell to know that Kerry is his mate nor does he need to one to know that protecting the beautiful stubborn woman from the last Godwin warlock won’t be easy in this bewitching paranormal romance.

Kerry Andrews wanted to make Daniel wait but a sleeper hex suddenly makes everything in her life go horribly wrong and the reader can’t help but become ensnared by the magical and exciting new world that Kerry finds herself exploring with her mate. The chemistry sizzles from every page with some hot and steamy sex scenes but they will have to find a way to finally end the threat to their lives if they want that happily ever after. The characters are strong, captivating and demand your attention while the fast paced, smooth flowing plot thrills readers with lots of suspense, action and romance while some snarky dialogue and family ribbing adds humor and depth to the story.

Expectation builds lots of tension throughout the story as young women like Kerry turn up dead and the Beckett brothers and family begin to realize that the last Godwin warlock has a set a nasty plan in motion. Anticipation builds as it seems the former attack on Kerry by their enemy has awakened something inside of Kerry that causes quite a bit of excitement and changes things in ways none of them could have imagined. Well written scenes and details capture the imagination bringing the story to life while the intriguing events guarantee that there is never a dull moment.

I was completely spellbound by this story from the very beginning, the fascinating world has so many interesting and different elements and the spell casting and magical elements seem so very real that it enhances that the story. Although it is obvious that the Godwin warlock threat is ongoing throughout the series, I had no trouble picking up on what was going on and I enjoyed the book immensely even though I have not read the previous books – of course I intend to rectify that as soon as possible.

Dana Marie Bell is a go-to author for me. I always know I will enjoy her next book, and Warlock Unbound was no different. I don't recommend starting with this one, as it's the conclusion of a series. Do yourself a favor and start with Shadow of the Wolf.

Daniel Beckett, the last un-mated Beckett brother finally casts his mate spell knowing it will draw Kerry to him and closer to danger. Kerry knows that she's Daniel's mate, what she doesn't know is what is about to happen to her life once he casts the spell to call her to him. It seems that the last Godwin warlock is up to worse tricks than his brothers or father ever pulled. As women with way to much in common with Kerry turn up missing or dead, it's up to all of the Becketts and their mates to stop him before all of his plans come to fruition.

Why do I want you to read this book? The relationships are wonderful, once a Beckett finds his mate he's completely dedicated. Don't let the insta-love/lust fool you, they take the time to get to know each other and see what it takes to be a true partnership, all while fighting a bad guy. The siblings have a wonderful dynamic and it's really fun to see how their respective mates play into that and build a sisterhood among themselves. Speaking of siblings, these four brothers will have you cracking up. Their behavior shows how close they are even while annoyed with one another. The baddies are really nasty, and the plot lines are done perfectly for the length of the books. Ms. Bell's take on the magic rituals and different callings (castings) is both inspired and imaginative.

In Warlock Unbound, we have a couple of really cool surprises, some very sweet (and steamy) loving, and a solid wrap-up to a much loved series. The epilogue had me laughing and craving pizza at the same time, which is a new experience for me.

Overall, I recommend this series to PNR reader who enjoy a snarky sense of humor, Dana Marie Bell fans, anyone who appreciates a sense of magic and mystery, and werewolf fans :)

Daniel is the only unmated brother of the family. He has been reluctant to cast the mating spell because he knows who his mate is and that it will put her in danger. Kerry wants Daniel to cast the spell to confirm what they both know and feel, but she was not prepared for what else it brought about for her. A dangerous warlock is killing women who are similar to her and Daniel’s family comes together to protect Kerry and stop the tyrannical and evil warlock before he destroys any more lives.

Even though Warlock Unbound it the fourth book in the series, I did not find it difficult to understand the dynamics of family. While I would not call it a stand-alone, I don’t feel as though you must read the entire beginning of the series to enjoy this book. As a reader, I really enjoy that from an author and it makes me WANT to go back and read more of the series instead of getting frustrated and giving up before I’m even at the end of the first chapter. Daniel’s love and devotion for Kerry is one of his best qualities. He will do anything to protect her, which means his brothers and their mates stand behind him and protect Daniel’s mate, too. LOVE THAT! Kerry isn’t a wallflower and she fits right into the sisterhood of the other mates within the Beckett family. The dialogue between the brothers had me laughing and rolling my eyes (in a good way) which made me want to keep reading

Overall, this is a great Urban Fantasy/Paranormal story that I really enjoyed. So much that I want to go back and read the earlier books in the series. Kudos to the author for that!

I enjoyed each brother's story of their journey to find their mates and destroying the evil that tried to separate them. I love that regardless of how they fought or quarrel with each other it was never done in hatred or malice. They fought and loved as siblings and family should. They always had each others backs and protected not just their mates and themselves but they fought for the innocent, justice for the murdered and end the lives of those who misuse their powers for evil.

I enjoyed Christopher & Alannah Beckett, Zachary & Johra Beckett, Gareth & Genevieve Beckett and Daniel and Kerry Beckett, how they each found not just their mate but a mate that could love both man and beast. I loved how the future is full of little Beckett monsters as the Beckett line grows and change to include females as the line was cursed to only have males. This new generation of Beckett's (females) are also born with their wolf. I like it!!!!!

A preview of what happen to the kids that were possessed in the final battle and those they had cleanse from the binding with the demons would have been nice. As well as did Gareth and Jo created the school for those kids, whether they be warlocks, witches and wizards whom parents or relative disown for their inadequacy whether in power or physique?

This is my first Dana Marie Bell novel. I will start by saying this is the 4th in the Heart's Desire Series but stands alone, however I do intend on going back at some point and reading the entire series.

Daniel is the last of the unmated Beckett brothers, he knows that Kerry is his mate so he casts his mating spell to bring her closer to him. Kerry knows she is meant for Daniel but she doesn't know what evil will come her way. The evil in this one comes as the last of the rival Godwin warlocks pulls more stunts then any of his brothers or their father did before him. I understand that this is somewhat of the way things go for the women in the Beckett Family Tree tend to come up missing or dead. It is wonderful to see the family pull together to save her.

I really enjoyed the way Ms. Bell showed how all the previous relationships are growing stronger and how dedicated the family is to one another. Having grown up in a large family I can understand the dynamic and it made me smile and how the wives grow to love and respect each other as they all bond tighter together. The story has strong characters and the plot line will keep you interested and turning the pages.

If you are in the market for a great Parnormal Romance, that will give you a 10 on the steam o meter, but make you laugh, I highly recommend this series.

Daniel's been resisting his family's pleas to cast the spell to call his mate. He is skating dangerously close to his wolf driving him crazy if he doesn't become mated soon. But Daniel knows that his mate is going to be Kelly, a mundane (aka non-magical), and he's worried about the harm that may come to her if she's officially part of the family. Hell, she's already been kidnapped twice.
And it turns out he's right to be worried. As soon as his spell is set, Kelly is put on suspension at the job she loves, nearly hit by a truck, and narrowly misses having a brick fall on her head. She knows it's time to get to New York and to the Beckett's for help. But removing the hex also opens up the warlock blood running deep in her bloodline making her even more vulnerable. Now the family is trying to figure out how to keep her from being seduced into working with a demon (the fate of many warlocks) as well as tracking down the last of the Godwin brothers who are set on taking over the world. Or some such nonsense.
Read the whole series based on a review from The Good, the Bad, and the Unread

I usually enjoy a Dana Marie Bell book better than this. This one just didn’t seem to be up to the same level as many of her other books. It felt kind of rushed and as if it was missing quite a bit of substance as there just didn’t really seem to be an awful lot going on in this one. The two sides of the story, the romantic aspect and the suspense aspect, just didn’t quite fit together right either.

I kept getting tripped up over the twin’s names when that topic came up because they were so similar. There was even a time or two where I’m certain they even got flip flopped around, when it should have been one name but was the other instead, and it got missed in the editing process, which made the confusion even worse. It also didn’t help that the names of the twins’ partners were similar to each other either. Kerry and Kelly, then Daniel and Dennis.

I don’t know if I just wasn’t really in the mood for this or what, but I wasn’t a fan of this one at all.

Wow! Dana Marie Bell really outdid herself in this novel and I wasn't disappointed.

Bad luck hit the fan for Kerry Andrews when Daniel Beckett did a mate spell. The spell triggered someone else hidden, and most of it wasn't good. Even before the mate spell, Kerry never lost hope that she was Daniel's mate. Will Kerry make it to Daniel in time or one piece? Who is warlock unbound?

Arthur Godwin was up to something very bad. Will the Becketts stop him in time?

I give 4.5 stars to Warlock Unbound, Hearts Desire Series, Book 4 (Samhain Publishing) by Dana Marie Bell.

Great Ending

I have read the whole series. This was bitter sweet for me it was a great way to end this series but I hate to see the end of the Bekett Family.I come from a large family and loved the laughter and even the arguing because that what loving families do.They fought together with their stronger women and triumph over evil.A true happy ending in every sense of the word.Mimi

Awesome!!!!!

Yup. I knew Kerry and Daniel would be great. It was. Kerry never Broods . She just gets up. Kicks butt and protects those around her. Daniel was annoying and rude in the first books but he got better until I really liked him. Is there more? I love all of your series. The Gray Court is my favorite.

Excellent book

Great end of the series. Loved all of them, each filled with tough feisty ladies taking on the bad guys and mating with a hot alpha wolf. Sometimes it just takes that special lady to handle both. Look forward to more books by this author.

Loved how it turned out.

I absolutely adored where she took the story. Kerry rocks this one. The chemistry and characters really worked for me in this book. The final twist was exactly right for the series, and the epilogue really sewed it all together like a master.
