PEAKs were real, demi-gods made flesh. Costumed superheroes who exhibited powers and abilities that elevated them above the human race. They became the famous and the idolized, celebrities who were both worshipped and reviled. It was a Golden Age - but then, it all came crashing down.
Vigilance tells the tale of a world where superheroes had existed, but after a tragic accident, were outlawed and then eradicated in an all out war with normal humans.
I really enjoyed this book, and I am not a 'superhero' person. The characters were well developed, and interesting, although I did sometimes get some of the PEAKs mixed up. The pacing was good, developing suspense, making me curious about the 'war.' To me, the overall tone of the story, start to finish, was sad but probably realistic and reflective of human nature. I loved the facility in New Mexico, and all that surrounded that -- I could just picture it in my head. I could picture it on the big screen, too. So, I enjoyed the book, and would recommend it!
