Updated review because I listened to the audiobook and F-me, this was GOOD. I love a duet read like it’s nobody’s business, and these two nailed June and Malcolm exactly how I pictured them.
Malcolm? Certified vigilante hero saving her during break-ins while also taking a little something for himself. You’ll have to read (or listen 🤫) to catch that part. And the dynamic… he’s her dad’s best friend, basically her “uncle,” then boom,years later they reconnect and that tension? Unreal. It’s wrong, it’s intense, and they absolutely cannot stay away from each other. He is not giving “family friend” anymore, he’s giving mhm.
They’re both dealing with their own flavors of PTSD, and the way they find comfort in each other just hits. I was swooning in real time. Forbidden fruit has never tasted sweeter.

A quick read that has age gap, dad’s best friend tropes. Malcom comes home from serving in the military and has an instant attraction to June. When Malcom goes to live with June the attraction he has only doubles. And when June also gives in, the spice is 🥵. Enjoy Malcom’s dirty mouth!

First of all, dont as in never ever reminiscing about your time in military. Got deployed, attacking, invading and killing the indegenous people of the country that your country is invading while in segs scene.
Its definitly not sexy. Specially when the world knows the USA goverment and the military is one giant genocidal war mongering!
Better yet, stop glorifying america military as if they are hero when their main duty is to invade a free country, steal that free country natural richness, grab the land from the indegenous and call it democracy. rape, slaughter, create starvation, dehumanized the people then call them terrorist for ever dare fighting back to regain their freedom and sovereignity from the US greed!
So, lets just stick on the segs! Perfectly three star for the segs scenes. The mysterious criminal? Easily detected, so no plot to dig deeper than daddy bestie with bestie daughter romance on this part for me.
Chemistry was undeniable. From the first sight, its all about hanging on loose threads to avoid the unavoidable.
And for a mom who knows her husband is serial cheater, how can she not see her husband's friend and her daughter is shagging when they move in together??
And for this great "patriot" to not talk to his buddy about his relationship with his daughter...such coward move for me....

I’d like to start with this being a beautifully done audiobook in a duet style. I enjoyed both the narrators.
I was interested in premise of this book being a taboo story of June and her dad’s best friend Malcom who is freshly out of the military and I wasn’t disappointed.
I will say that I didn’t really care for the first time he touched her was while she was in a sleeping pill induced stupor while he’s supposed to be there making her feel protected after someone broke into her home. So she went from having her ex threaten her earlier that night to someone breaking into her home to having her dad’s best friend perform somnophilia with her without her prior knowledge which she even considers sexual assault when she later finds out.
I enjoyed that he did try to teach her some self defense and she actually learned from him. I thought that was great foreshadowing and built a better trusting relationship both between them and confidence within herself.
The dad is the worst as he’s just a habitual cheater and I’m glad the mom finally decided to leave him though I wish she didn’t decide to save face for the kids. She deserved better.
I’m not sure if the mom/dad were just oblivious or too consumed with their current situation but the sister immediately caught on to the relationship between Malcom and June which I found to be almost as bold as the insta lust trope. Though I’m glad their relationship was eventually revealed to her parents regardless of their feelings towards it.
Also OF COURSE IT WAS TYLER. I honestly didn’t see that coming but it makes sense. Them having spicy time in front of Tyler while he was tied up after the attack was a nice touch and gave me dark romance vibes.
It was definitely spicy and there was lots of push and pull between them.
The epilogue was well done though I felt it was a little rushed and would’ve enjoyed more to it.

I got the opportunity to listen to the audiobook. It was an okay listen. This on is June and Malcolm’s story.
I liked the little mention of Denise and Issac for Whatever he wants it was a nice little touch.
Malcolm after his deployment has found himself lodging with his best friend’s family. June the youngest child comes home for her sister’s engagement party.
Malcolm is desperate for the wife and kids know that he is done serving his country. As soon as he opens the door for June he knows it’s wrong but the heart wants what it wants.
If that isn’t complicated enough Malcolm is Junes hero as he saved her from a house fire when she was younger and as much as she has a crush on the man. She sees him as her uncle.
He does help her out with a stalker issue and comes up a solution that gets him living with her. Malcolm does take advantage of June when she’s out cold on sleeping tablets to which he does get caught. But it does work out for the couple.
This is a short and spicy story with more spice than plot but the plot that is there is actually good. I would have loved a scene between Malcolm and the dad when the dad finds out that Malcolm is making him a grandad.

I have read a lot of f*c%ery and depraved and shocking smutty books and they were still good, but the way this one is written is so cringe. So much ick with the not established anything and the sleep S.A. such a no for me. Ick.

This book was so good. It was so forbidden and taboo. This is an age gap fathers best friend romance. Malcom is instantly smitten with June and I loved it. Also the narrators did so good reading this book. They were perfect for their characters.

Not my usual trope style or read and yet I ate it up and was glad I listened. This is a really good book, and would have stuck listening it was longer!
From the start, it pulled me in with how easy it was to keep up with the story but what really hooked me was the characters and the way the narrators portrayed them.
June surprised me the most as a character. She comes across as vulnerable at first but then there’s a quiet resilience to her that builds as the story goes on. Even when she’s placed in situations where she has very little control, she doesn’t lose herself and that made her feel more layered than I expected in such a short story. I liked that she wasn’t perfect or fearless but still pushed back in her own way, which made her reactions feel real and kept me emotionally invested in her.
And Malcolm is exactly the kind of MC who walks that fine line between obsession and self preservation with conviction. He’s controlled, dominant and very aware of the power he holds over June but there’s also a quiet intensity to him and Oliver Highpoint really gave such character to Mal’s inner thoughts. What made him interesting for me was that he’s not softened or looking to be redeemed… he leans into that morally grey taboo space and commits, but still manages to have moments that hint at something deeper beneath the surface. It made his dynamic with June feel more charged, because you’re constantly trying to figure out where the limits are… and whether he even has any!
The tension between them is constant, it’s sharp, charged and yes… very spicy. It builds in a way that keeps you listening, and when it hits, it hits. Definitely not a “fade to black” situation.. and some lines just stuck.. like I cannot unhear like ‘three muchs? godd*mn’.. *embarrassed laugh*
And let’s talk about the audiobook because wow..
the narrators understood the assignment and delivered it. They didn’t just read the story but they performed it in ways that had even me blush. Every bit of tension, attitude and heat came through so clearly that it made those intense moments hit much harder. It honestly added a whole extra layer of spice and immersion that made it difficult to pause.
Brisa Knight is new to me but her voice was perfect for June and she acted the part amazingl!

His Reward ALC Review
First alc review I’ve done. Quick audio book finished in 4.5hrs great for something right before bed and while running errands / doing tasks or simple just want to be immersed into something quick and spicy! On the borderline of being risky taboo… dad’s best friend that she’s always saw him and called him “Uncle Mal” even during until she finally gave into it and accepted the temptation. June has known Mal all her life and because of him, he’s the reason she’s still alive to this day. When she was just a kid, Mal ran into her burning house to rescue her and got some second degree burns on his arms from it. She always saw him as her hero. Years pass, Mal (now 38yr old man) went off to the military and when he came back and saw June again for the first time, everything changed. To him she wasn’t his niece anymore but a very attractive 21yr old woman and he knew he needed to have her. To claim her. And have his kids… No matter the cost. June was dealing with a lot of personal stuff in her life and unfortunately a break in at her apartment so Mal offered to be her roommate to protect her. She saw is at him always being her hero and for Mal, it was a way to keep close to her, protect her, and secretly win her over. Overall a Win win for him. Well the secret didn’t last long when she woke up in the middle of the night and saw what he was doing to her 👀🌶️🌶️🌶️ … he promised never to happen again which didn’t last long but at least she was awake for it. Things escalated. He won her over and even got her pregnant. They end the book with them moving to a new place and talking about telling her parents eventually … definitely a cliffhanger if you ask me because I would have loved to hear about their reaction lol
Ps. They do find out who broke in. He got what was coming to him karma and justice was served. And Mal and June get their HEA

They end the book with them moving to a new place and talking about telling her parents eventually … definitely a cliffhanger if you ask me because I would have loved to hear about their reaction lol

This is a pretty quick book. I was chosen to receive an ALC (advance listener copy) for the audio book release. I need to start with saying this style and my comfort level are not a match. It was much more than what I was expecting, even in light of the reader warnings, which are present and were well communicated to ALC prior to also.
My review is my opinions and if you’re reading this you need to understand that the clearly communicated message is not something I thought I’d have an issue with however it became apparent this wasn’t the book for me. If “morally grey” is a genre that you enjoy, please do not take my opinion into consideration as you decide if you want to give this a read or a listen.
The good: Fast paced. The story line that is present is a topic that’s worth having a book about. Its believable.
The less good: The spice is a lot in this. Like a LOT. Which many times I’m ok with it, however here I felt like I was lacking a connection to characters. That’s always a struggle for me in any genre. I wanted more substance to the story. More of the backstory of why the person who “did it” did it. More of the chemistry felt between Jane and Malcolm. More of the frustration between Jane’s parents. More “girl talk” since the sister figured it out. More of the relationship between Malcolm and Jane’s Dad. I wanted to feel that he was going to be upset but it was so briefly touched on that I just felt like there could have been much more there. I should have taken the “trigger warnings” more seriously, 100% my fault. I don’t usually research authors before if the books sound good but if I would have this author very visibly states “writes morally grey novellas”. Lesson learned. Thankfully it was a quick listen. This is 100% one of those books you’re either gonna love or hate. No middle ground.
It’s not for people who want a strong plot with their spice. However, if you’re just looking for some spice with a little plot then this is for you. Unless you don’t like non-con then move on along.
Not much gives me the ick, but that first bedroom scene??? Yeah…that did it. And when he’s thinking “tonight’s the night” I was literally like, sir, tonight’s the night you committed a felony?? Lord help.

A steamy age gap romance with the hint taboo of the love interest being Daddy's best friend. The characters are complex and multifaceted and the circumstances that bring them together are all too real.
June is the baby of her family who is the only one that sets off to stand on her own 2 feet. Her adoration and hero worship of Malcolm started when he saved her life. But after a decade of separation their reconnection brings new feelings and desires, leaving June to make a choice, do whats right for her or what society expects.
Malcolm is a fantastic MMC who was given so much depth and emotion through Oliver's expert narration. He is a good guy that makes some questionable decisions but ultimately turns the tide and saves the day, again.
Love this story and if you need an enjoyable easy read that has realistic sex scenes, a touch of the dark and a touch of the taboo, I suggest you try this.

First of all, can’t get enough steamy audio books, so if you are looking for hot audios with little plot - this is it. For an age gap romance book and this did not disappoint. It’s been 10 years since Mal has seen his best friend’s daughter (that’s like a niece) but he quickly realizes she is a grown adult and June sees how attractive Mal is for the first time.
The connection and heat between Mal and June was amazing, I loved his protective nature.
The male narrators voice was excellent. Loved his voice and it was sexy. The females voice was good but her microphone issues with the high pitch ends to her words was difficult to listen to at times. But I kept listening due to the well written lines.
I wish there was a little more to the ending. It kinda leaves you wondering what happens to them. But overall was a quick and delicious listen! Can’t wait to read or listen to another one of her books. I received an advance copy of this audio book and this is my honest review.

His Reward is a short taboo romance involving a younger woman and her dad's best friend. This was a fast and easy read with dual narrators.
The good: Lots of great spice and I love the taboo aspect of their relationship. Also loved the bit of revenge at the end. The male narrator was great.
**SPOILERS AHEAD**
The less than great: I don't mind a bit of dubcon or somnophilia but it did bother me that the first time the "good guy/hero" engaged in it was the first time the two mains had any sexual contact at all. It just seemed to come out of nowhere and even the MFC considered it sexual assault (rightfully so). I was also a bit put off by the dialogue from the MFC, as it came off a bit more naive/dumb than innocent. The ending felt a bit rushed, but I appreciated the epilogue.
All in all, a fun and spicy quick read with a little bit of plot thrown in for flavor.

First I want to note that I received a free copy of this book and I'm voluntarily leaving a review.
Second i honestly recommend checking trigger warnings before reading. I do love dark romance so when I saw them i thought nothing of it but there were a few instances where i felt uncomfortable. I am all for Somnophilia when it’s consensual. I’ve read/ listened to multiple books that contain Somnophilia but even the FMC saw it as SA. FOR ME PERSONALLY that part wasn’t my cup of tea. Others might not care when it comes to reading it and that’s fine. I will never yuck someone’s yum.
Overall this was a quick steamy very taboo romance and other than that part I did enjoy it. I did feel like it was a little rushed I honestly wanted more. I felt myself left with questions I need the answers to. I would have loved to see how their relationship developed because it felt more lust driven. I want to know how the parents reacted to the news of them and the pregnancy.

This story pulled me in from page one. The age gap, the forbidden dynamic, and the deep emotional tension made it impossible to stop reading. The dad’s best friend trope is one of my favorites, and this one nailed it. He’s broody, protective, and holding back so much, until he just can’t anymore.
I loved how the heroine brought softness and sweetness to the darker edges of the story. There’s heat, intensity, and a strong emotional undercurrent that makes the connection feel real. If you like powerful heroes who go all in and heroines who bring out their best, this book will definitely hit the spot.
Highly recommend for readers who love forbidden age gap romances with a punch of steam and a satisfying HEA.

I got the Audiobook as a ALR, so writing a bad(ish) review feels bad, but this book simply was just - meh.
The narrators both are great, voices pleasant to listen to and sound like people telling their story. So no notes on that (and they pretty much are two out of the three stars in this review).
But the story?
Cmon... the "mystery" pretty much uses a bilboard to advertise itself (and that the FMC doesn't see it, made me pull a muscle at how hard I rolled my eyes).
But oblivious FMC aside... the MMC isn't much better.
First I really like his inner struggle of "no, this is wrong. Look - don't touch"... but then the first chance he gets he breaks that and in ways that are SO WRONG, just to then gaslight her into liking him and breakind down her boundaries by "being nice"... somebody lock that guy up, and do that QUICKLY.

Well, I kinda went totally blind into this one and.. Oh.. My.. God.. It was sooo HOT!!😍 I mean, it's just under 5h long but damn.. 🥵🥵
From the first minute I heard his voice.. I just couldn't stop listening! I listen to it in one sitting with just minor food and toilet breaks! 🤣
Malcom and June is so great together and I absolutely LOVE how naughty and taboo he is.
(And you know I'm all for taboo romances😉)
The little stalker micro trope made it even more interesting.
I DEFINITELY recommend this audiobook, it's just great and I'm actually really sad that it's done😭❤️

Honestly, Malcom and Junes story, even though taboo, is worth it! Once June starts to realise how good they are together, they’re a force to be reckoned with. I loved Malcolm’s devotion to her from the onset, he’s a mad that will do whatever it takes to get his woman…. Quite literally…. It’s not often that a novella has much more than smut in it, but I loved the fact that there was actually a story line there too. The audiobook for this is music to my ears as a I love a duet

While a quick read, the back and forth tension was good and I loved the slightly dark tone of it. Mal and June bonded after he saved her from a fire when she was a child and from there things just blossomed once Mal moves in with June when they are much older. Mal is absolutely obsessed and protective of June, which I adore! There is some some non/dub con and other triggers so make sure you read those as your mental health matters!
