The History of Norway - from the Ice Age until Today is written for all those who want to know more about the country's history.
A lavishly illustrated, single volume work that gives a comprehensive picture of cultural and social development in Norway – from the time man first began to affect the country almost 12 000 years ago right up to the present. The juxtaposition of text, maps illustrations and captions provides the reader with variety, insight and the opportunity to delve into things more deeply.
Anyone trying to understand contemporary Norway will find this book both stimulating and useful.
A concise and comprehensive non-academic volume about the socio-political and cultural history of Norway. It encompasses a very large period, starting from the first human migration to the lands of nowadays Norway (circa 12.000 years ago) until the 2000s. Moreover, the volume is well illustrated with maps and pictures. It was a fast and fun reading but, of course, rather superficial in terms of the coverage of historical events. Nevertheless, a good start for having a glimpse at the historical sources of many current events in the country.
My Grandpa gave me this book to learn more about our family's heritage and about the history of the country I was born in. I really enjoyed this book, and learned a lot from it. The photographs are great and complement the text well. Definitely a must read for anyone interested in Norway, and it's sparked my interest for further reading!
Whistle-stop history of Norway from the Ice Age, through the Vikings and the Middle Ages, to the turn of the millennium, detailing the political, industrial and social change that has shaped the country.
Bought this book when I spent a month in Norway in 2003 but not read it til now. I will return but until then this has scratched an itch!
