*Arc provided by author in exchange for an honest review*

Jemma Bell’s debut novel Nerd Girl kept me entertained and glued to the pages. Amy Jenkins is a shy girl so used to blending into the background and day dreaming about her book boyfriends, but when she finds herself in the men’s washroom and bumps into Derrick Walker a cover model she is left embarrassed and humiliated, whilst Derrick is left reeling from his encounter with the beautiful nerd girl whose name he needs to discover before the day is over. As opposites attract and Derrick throws himself into Amy’s world their chemistry is unmistakably hot and sexy, the humour will make you laugh out loud and have you gushing at the adorability and romance, whilst there’s plenty of angst on hand with two fierce best friends Layla and Revin ready to throw in their two cents. I loved seeing Amy transform from a nerd into a hottie tapping into her hidden beauty and confidence. I loved the dual pov getting inside Derrick’s head from his sweet thoughts to the moments I wanted to slap him upside the head lol. Well done to Jemma on her first release now I am excited to get my hands on Moxi girl which I hope is about the two best friends Layla and Revin.

Wonderful debut by new author!

I loved everything about this story. The plot is unique and very interesting. The characters are well developed and well written. The secondary characters do what they are supposed to do-- they support the story through wonderful details and create a depth which furthers the story. In other words, the characters make the story. Jemma Bell does a magnificent job of creating a world full of charm, laughter, sarcasm and witt. I look forward to many more stories from Ms. Bell.

Amy Jenkins is a self-proclaimed book nerd. Sneaking into the men’s bathroom at a book signing to quickly go pee, she runs into her favorite cover model Derrick Walker. The perfect way to meet your future book boyfriend/husband. Will her fantasy come true and Derrick be the dream man from her posters in real life?

“Nerd Girl Problem #101

That moment when you awkwardly run into the sexiest man you have ever seen while he’s hiding in the men’s room. Yes, I did say men’s room. You’re probably wondering how I, a girl, am in the men’s room with said sexy man. You see, this is my luck or rather bad luck.”

I found Nerd Girl to be a cute story about a book signing nerd and cover model finding themselves attracted to one another. Add in a set of colorful friends who embarrass the crap out of you and a bitchy manager and you’ve got a story. I really think I could have killed Mitzi. She needed a reality check by almost every single person she had contact with. There were many, many angsty moments that if I were Amy, I really would have spoken my mind and probably would have been in jail. Overall, I really liked the story and wish I had a funny dog Clyde to entertain me.

Great job for a new author and I hope that we see more stories in the future. I love nothing more than a story with romance and humor. And maybe a nasty villain that I love to hate. Mitzi filled that role perfectly.

Nerd Girl…I’m not even sure where to start to express how much I LOVE this story by the fantastic upcoming Jemma Bell. I was given the honor of beta reading Nerd Girl and what an honor it is. Jemma is a fantastic new indie author you won't want to miss.

Amy, the book nerd and Derrick, the stunning cover model collide in the most spectacular of places…the men’s restroom. He’s seeking reprieve from his crazed fans and she’s seeking reprieve for her bladder. Words are exchanged and attraction flies, but what results is a hilarious journey to self-growth and happiness you won’t want to miss.

This book has it all…Layla and Riven, the best friend and the wingman, only add to the hilarity and craziness of their lives. Mitzi, the manager, the evil witchface that’s looking out only for herself. Clyde, the coolest dog with the coolest trick ever! You can’t get a better cast of characters. It is hilarious, sweet, loving, and even brought tears to my eyes. And the passion…the passion is on point. I so want to be Amy in that bathtub with Derrick…freaking H.O.T!

We all have the nerd girl trapped inside us. Take this journey and find yours.

I was beyond ecstatic when I first heard of this one. I mean who here wouldn't want to get the chance to fall in love with some of our cover models? Anywho the storyline was all sorts or geeky romantic, but I think I was kinda off put by how egotistical the man was. Derrick at times really felt like a blundering caveman, or Tarzan. "Me Derrick p, you Amy" no he didn't talk like that but for me that's how he computed into my head. Even though it was throughly predictable it was still to an extent enjoyable. The side characters were spunky and fun and I really hope Layla and Riven get their own book. Also I'd love to read about Cara and the ex marine because let's face it stuff was getting a bit shifty hot there as well. Gah I wished this went better but sadly I think me and the side characters were more in love then the mains.

Loved the story for the fun, witty, sexy banter between the characters. Amy is adorably entertaining and multi faceted. You think she's simply a cute, good girl, but as the story develops, you admire the strength she shows. Derrick of course is dreamy. Everyone needs a BFF like Layla. Pops and GG round out a fabulous supporting cast. I'm looking forward to more stories from this author and about these characters!

If this was this authors first novel she's made a good fist of it. Nothing more than a very sweet love story with the usual hiccup it was an enjoyable story with plenty of interest. Well written, although there was a couple of strange passages, the story flowed along and had a few steamy scenes to spice the tale up. Well worth it's 4*rating and worth a nice easy read.

I stumbled across Nerd Girl when it was available for preorder, so as most book whores do, I preordered it since the blurb sounded pretty good. I mean come on a nerd and a book boyfriend cover model? I so wish that would happen to me in real life, well if I didn’t have that husband and all. If you are reading this my dear sweet husband, you know I love you. I read it a couple of days after it released and I absolutely LOVED it! I love when a nerd or geeky type character knocks the sexy hot male or female on their ass and they have to have the nerd or geek. What can I say I am a little nerdy in real life so I cheer for the nerds in the world.

Amy may be nerdy, but this girl will surprise you. She is feisty, sassy, funny and overall just real. She knows she is a nerd, well a book nerd to be more specific. So when Derrick literally runs right into her, at first she is awestruck. Well that is until he ends up with his foot in his mouth when he is a jackass. I could almost picture their interaction in my head when I was reading. Derrick can’t help but fall for the girl who looks like a naughty librarian, and when he finds a way to get in contact with her I was on the edge of my seat hoping that it all works out. Too bad he has a psycho agent who happens to be an ex fuck buddy, who at every turn tries to sabotage the relationship that Amy and Derrick are forming. God I wanted to slap the living hell out of that bitch on more than one occasion, I will admit I wanted to slap and possibly knee Derrick as well for a couple of things he did and didn’t do.

I believe this is the first book by Jemma Bell and I also this is the first book in a series. I can’t wait to read more from this author. If the rest of her books keep me laughing and giggling with a small side of angst and a heavy dose of the nerd getting the guy then I will read them all. So if you are a fan of nerds getting the hot guy or girl, make sure you add this one to your TBR lists and find out why I cheered on the nerd girl getting the hot cover model guy.

Oh, I can't tell how much Nerd Girl was exactly the kind of book I needed to read right now! The last few books I've read have been awesome, but they were either dark or heavy and I really needed a light, funny read and that's what Nerd Girl was for me. It was absolutely fantastic and I looooved it!!

I found Nerd Girl on Facebook when one of my friends liked Ms. Bell's page and the cover and title instantly captured my attention. I wanted to read it right there and even more when I read a teaser for it. I consider myself a "Nerd Girl" so the nerd and the hot guy getting their HEA is a favorite storyline of mine and I just couldn't wait to read this one! It did not disappoint at all and I can't wait to read more from Ms. Bell!

I loved Amy instantly! She reminded me of me with her glasses, love of books and her klutziness. She's sassy and funny, a little shy, but a good, sweet girl. Amy's not the type to play games and while she's nice and shy at times, she can definitely hold her own and stand up for herself. I positively loved everything about her and I would love to have Amy as a friend!

Derrick, oh, I loved that guy! I wanted to smack him every now and then, but for the most part I didn't because he is a great guy. He's driven and determined, caring and thoughtful, and sweet and totally in love with Amy. He's not perfect, he messes up sometimes, but I never questioned his feelings for Amy. Derrick is great hero and he definitely made me fall for him just like Amy!

Nerd Girl made me laugh and smile a lot, it tugged on my heart strings and sucked me in. It made me hold my breath, bounce around in excitement and anticipation, and gasp in outrage, shock, and happiness. It was a beyond awesome read, I loved it, the characters, and I can't wait to see them again!

Nerd Girl is a standalone, it's told from Derrick and Amy's POV, and they get their HEA!

Right turn Clyde! OMG...I couldn't get over this book! I laughed my a$$ off throughout the whole thing. My husband was looking at me like I was a cackling psycho! I loved Amy's character! She was a nice girl. Sweet and oh so sassy and woulnt take anyone walking all over her. She was a beautiful woman but was shy and didnt have much self confidence in herself. Derrick Walker is a cover model of romance books. Really hot and arrogant and sometimes an a$$hat. He can be really sweet and romantic and totally oblivious when it comes to his agent from hell Mitzie. When Amy and Derrick meet in the most unlikely places...a mens room at a book convention sparks fly...sorta. She's totally into him until he flys off at the mouth and insults her. Ha. However, he is totally smitten with her. He's your typical playboy but the right girl comes along and he's gotta spend time with her and wants something real with Amy. Now there are times he totally screws up. Wanted to slap him a couple times. I was like really Derrick? Seriously? What a douche! Secondary characters were great. Layla her bestie is awesome. Riven his roommate and trainer are awesome as well. Then we have the gym owner Cara. There's a story there! I think the BEST part ever is with her big doggie Clyde. Right turn Clyde...oh man. Dont wanna give too much away but you will laugh your a$$ off when the best thing ever happens to Mitzie! Totally recommend this I cant say that enough! Jemma Bell is brilliant! This is her first novel I think and she did so wonderfully. I love her writing style and humor that I can totally relate to! Can't wait for her next book!

This is a really great debut story! Amy's quirky nerdiness is excellently written. She's a nerd, but not a wimp. She's shy, but willing and able to stand up for herself. Derrick is not really what I would call an alpha. He's kind of... an alpha-in-training, or a good potential-alpha, but he never quite makes that leap. He's still got the makings of a great book boyfriend, however!

The story is well written & there are so many laughs!! The first 60% of the book is full of the quirky, the sweet, the hilariously funny & moving. And then we get to the SOB portion (for those of you unfamiliar w/ my acronym, that would be the "seemingly obligatory breakup" portion). *sigh* First of all, Derrick's wishy-washy attitude about the reason for the drama was annoying. Secondly, we had their group of friends who wouldn't just come out & TELL HIM the backstory on the drama. The SOB portion lasted an unnecessarily long time, and when everyone started to come around, I had almost lost interest. It took a little bit for me to get back into the connection I'd felt w/ these two from the beginning, and that was hard. That's really the only thing that took this down from a 5+ story, for me.

The last 10% or so DOES redeem that feeling for me, but also made the ending feel a little abrupt. All in all, I would call this a cute, sweet romance w/ likable characters. I'm hoping there will be more to this series, as I'm looking forward to spending more time w/ everyone. So, overall, I do recommend this story! : )

Some of the ladies in my Book Blog swore by Nerd Girl said every Book nerd should read it.

I wasn't too sure what to expect but laughing from the start wasn't it. I was sat there from the first chapter shaking my head, chuckling and thinking 'oh my word, that's what I would do.' I spent a good chunk of the book with a little smile on my face without even realising it. Amy Jenkins is a straight no nonsense book nerd but she does have self image and confidence issues. She literally falls for Derrick, the cover model and fitness guru, and the relationship progresses from there.

The book is fun and quirky, I was worried it would over focus on Amy's confidence issues but Jemma Bell approaches it from both characters and it feels a bit more real. You can't help but love both leads, cheer on for the two best friends and want Mitzi the agent to fall flat on her face or chip her perfect manicure.

About 50% of the way through I realised the story had progressed quickly but I was so caught up in the story I hadn't realised! Then I hit a point where I just wanted to slap Derrick and just floor Mitzi. I ached for Amy and got excited when she beat some of her demons. Honestly, I was so immersed in the story I couldn't put it down and didn't realise the other half had been snoring until I finished the book!!

Nerd Girl is Jemma Bells first book, and what a beginning, I cannot wait for the rest of the series to come out! If you want a fun, fast paced and intriguing read give Nerd Girl a read. It is a must read for any book nerd.

Such a sweet and fresh romance that will leave you with a big smile on your face! There are plenty of funny moments including, but not limited to; Ben Wa balls, spandex (or lack there of), darts and roommates. There is also a scene-stealing BFF, a witch you will LOVE to hate and lots of sexy lovin'. Nerd Girl is definitely a page turner!

Amy... She was such a down-to-earth, genuine heroine... and I LOVED that about her! Her killer precision when throwing a red "passion" bead, the way she "Roared" around a stripper pole and her interactions with Clyde (as well as his with Mitzi) are just some of the reasons why I found Amy to be such a likable character. I was so happy to see her confidence blossom as the story went on!

Derrick... His scaredy pants dance when it came to a certain thousand-legger, the open and unabashed way he loved Amy and the way he handled the Mitzi problem in the end are just a few reasons why he stole my heart. He is such a sweetheart of a Hero, even if he was a skosh oblivious to Mitzi's witchy ways in the beginning.

The two share a super cute HEA that left me hungry for more! I'm very much looking forward to hearing more from the rest of the cast of characters; especially Riven and Layla!

I was given a copy for an honest review.

I have been dying to get my hands on this book!! The very first teaser hooked me and once I read the blurb I knew this one was for me!!! Well Jemma did not disappoint, she actually blew me away!! This book was a perfect mix of everything I love in a great read! The characters and chemistry was amazing, I laughed out loud more times then I can count, and the story was truely captivating! I was sucked in from the first page until the end.

I honestly can not think of a book that made me laugh so much and at the sametime had an awesome level of hotness!! The chemistry was hot and I was rooting for them the whole way through the book. It does also have some drama and angst mixed in, but not too much!!

I would without a doubt recommend this awesome book to everyone. Jemma did an amazing job of writing a story that has everything I look for in a story. I am secretly hoping for more from all these characters!! I will eagerly be waiting to see what Jemma has to come next!!

Gifted an ARC for an honest review! A debut among debuts! Jemma Bell created characters that felt so real. Amy a young book nerd that made me think about myself. I saw some characteristics in her that I had to laugh and say hey she could be describing me. Derrick is a hot, sexy and charismatic man. There is more to him than what is seen on the outside. You know the saying "don't judge a book by its cover." Well that is Derrick. Jemma Bell developed great side characters as well. I hope to see more from them. There is one character that I just wanted to reach through my kindle a slap so hard that she would be transported somewhere else but that is what makes the character great. I was laughing so hard at some moments that my abs hurt and decided I didn't need an ab workout for the day. There are a few surprises with a little "oh no" but the question is will things work out. I enjoyed this debut by Jemma Bell and I will be looking for more from her. Great and fantastic 5 star read. If you haven't one clicked Nerd Girl what are you waiting for.

Derrick is a typical guy, with typical horny guy thoughts, "being a guy, I just tossed out the suggestion for a pole dancing class. I was half joking, but in reality, I’d love to see Amy’s body spinning around and sliding down a pole in a skimpy outfit. Of course, naked would be a hell of a lot better, but that’s not an option at the club." Derrick was seriously stupid at times I wanted to tell at him and hit him, I mean how could he not see what everyone else saw, GAHHH the boy frustrated me! Holy wow though this book was a page turner I really enjoyed it, I would love to have Riven and Layla get a book just to see how their relationship plays out and I'm hoping that Cara gets one as well.

this book definitely deserves 5 stars due to how uniquely it was written. FINALLY ! a woman who is not afraid to use her fist for talking !!!! I would also like to add that I am so glad that there is finally a book with fantastic humor!!!! I mean I love a raunchy book but this book was halarious too!! when I a wasn't giggling and blushing, I was rolling off the bed from laughing so hard!!! last but not least the hunk;) Assertive, dominant , and well find out for yourselves !!!!

It's hard for me to write this review because I really wanted to love this book but I ended up thinking it was just okay. It definitely had some funny moments and the first couple of chapters were great. But I think the style of the writing and the overuse of exclamation points (for some reason this bugged me) just didn't let me fall into the book like I wanted to. I ended up speed reading through the second half of it. But it had a cute concept and some hilarious parts and I probably would read another book by this author.

Read this on release day and loved it!
Amy is a young woman that a lot of women of any age can relate to. Especially those of the voracious reader variety! Derrick was more down to Earth than I expected for an up and coming fitness/cover model. The supporting characters are all well done.
I got frustrated with our hero`s blind, deaf & dumb view of Mitzi but it is dead on how men don`t see that type of behavior for what it is at the time.
Very excited for the next book :-)!

I was extremely pleased.

This book was a sleeper for me. Unassuming cover, not a lot of detail in the back cover blurb, but OMG a fantastic read. This book rocked. Not your typical romance, but a fabulous story. Give it a read, the characters have chemistry and make you smile.

Nerd Girl by Gemma Bell is the first book in her Modern Girl series

Amy is at a book fair when she literally runs into the object of all her bookish fantasies, Derrick Walker. Her best friend Layla sets it up so the her and Amy take a poll dancing exercise class in the gym where Derrick works.

That is where the relationship begins. Derricks manager Mitzi has plans for him thought and they don’t include Amy.

Can the Nerd Girl and the Handsome Hunk make their relationship work?

I had mixed emotions about this book. Derrick really didn’t sweep me off my feet. He treated Amy like crap and always seemed to believe the worst in her, even when she did everything in her power to support him. Even his friends noticed his poor treatment of her.

As far as Amy is concerned, she seemed to embrace the fact that she was a nerd until you put her next to Derrick, then she was a fumbling mess who was insecure about herself. She let Derrick treat her like crap and even made excuses for his mistreatment of her.

The book as a whole wasn’t bad. I loved Layla, Trent, and Amy’s dad! It was funny some of the spills that Amy took in her many bouts of clumsiness. I just didn’t always identify with the characters.
