Mary Pope Osborne is an American author of children's books and audiobook narrator. She is best known as the author of the Magic Tree House series, which as of 2017 sold more than 134 million copies worldwide. Both the series and Osborne have won awards, including for Osborne's charitable efforts at promoting children's literacy. One of four children, Osborne moved around in her childhood before attending the University of North Carolina. Following college, Osborne traveled before moving to New York City. She somewhat spontaneously began to write, and her first book was published in 1982. She went on to write a variety of other children's and young adult books before starting the Magic Tree House series in 1992. Osborne's sister Natalie Pope Boyce has written several compendium books to the Magic Tree House series, sometimes with Osborne's husband Will Osborne.
I've read almost every book in the series. My kids love joining Jack and Annie in all their adventures and always learn a bit too. My kids show a lot of interest in these books from about age 5-9, great for early elementary aged kids and introduction to reading chapter books.
I read so many of these books when I was little, I didn't love love them though. I read a lot of them in Spanish. They are about two kids who time travel in a magic tree house. -August 2022
I'm reading this book series (or at least enough books to be familiar with this book series) since my six-year-old (now seven-year-old) granddaughter is reading them. So far I've read: #1: Dinosaurs Before Dark; #2: The Knight at Dawn; #3: Mummies in the Morning; #4: Pirates Past Noon; #5: Night of the Ninja; #6: Afternoon on the Amazon; #8 Midnight on the Moon; and #9 Dolphins at Daybreak.
The Magic Tree House book series is a great set of books to introduce to lower elementary students (k-2). This book uses very vivid details in the stories that give the reader an opportunity to place themselves in the main characters shoes. Also, this book is very good for introducing chapter books and more advanced reading for that age group.
I love the magic treehouse books. They're my favorite series of books! They have adventure and excitement. They are very fun books to read. -Daniel Flowers
