Mountain Man's Fire & Glass: Rocky Mountain Autumn Nights

Rate this book
Caleb Lawson knows what fire can take. Annie Ernspiker knows what it can make.

Caleb has never questioned what comes next. After earning his place with the Cady Springs Fire Department, he plans to become a smokejumper just like his father—the man who taught him what courage and service look like.

He has the training, the determination, and something left to prove. Then an autumn rescue brings Annie into his life.

She creates art from heat and glass, coaxing rich color from the earth and beauty from materials most people would overlook. Annie is talented, unconventional, and fiercely committed to building a life that belongs to her—even when the people who love her don’t entirely understand it. Caleb understands her better than either of them expects.

What begins as an attraction he can’t ignore soon becomes the one part of his future Caleb hasn’t planned. Annie makes him want things that have nothing to do with following in his father’s footsteps. A home. A life in Cady Springs. And the brilliant, independent woman who sees the man he is beneath the uniform—and isn’t afraid to ask whether the dream he’s chasing ever truly belonged to him.

Caleb has spent most of his life believing the wilderness is where he will prove himself. Falling for Annie means risking the future he thought was already decided. And for the first time, that choice is his alone.

Mountain Man’s Fire & Glass is a steamy small-town firefighter romance featuring a protective young hero, an unconventional glass artist, intense attraction, family legacy, he-falls-first heat, and a rugged Rocky Mountain happily-ever-after.

Fire and ice

This is the story of a firefighter who is unsure of his future, and a creator of glass sculptures who needs to fight fire. They each have a lot to learn about themselves and each other before there can be a future together.

She shapes glass with fire. He has to decide what the fire shapes in him.

Annie is building a future from colored glass, independence, and a commission that could prove her art can support the life she wants. Caleb has spent years preparing for a future shaped by firefighting, family legacy, and the smokejumper path he’s always assumed is his. When an accident brings them together, attraction becomes something neither can ignore.

Caleb falls first, drawn to Annie’s talent, humor, and need to make her own choices. Annie wants him just as badly, but letting someone close is easier than letting them help, especially when Caleb’s protective instincts become solutions she never asked for. Their growing intimacy teaches them that caring for someone isn’t the same as choosing for them.

When fire damages Annie’s workspace and threatens her commission, she has to start over without surrendering control of what comes next. Caleb, meanwhile, has to question whether the future he inherited from his father is still the one he wants. Annie won’t decide for him, even when his answer could change everything between them.

Their chemistry grows into something physical, tender, and rooted in trust. Annie learns she can choose intimacy without giving up her independence, while Caleb learns to listen instead of taking over. Desire deepens into a relationship built on consent, honesty, and mutual choice.

Annie grows able to accept love without feeling owned by it, while Caleb learns where protection ends and partnership begins. What starts with attraction and careful trust becomes a deeply affectionate, sexually open bond where communication and autonomy matter as much as desire. ‍

A hot, he falls first, small town firefighter and artist romance about independence, ambition, family legacy, vulnerability, desire, and the difference between protecting someone and choosing for them. It’s about changing course without losing yourself and building a life together that still belongs to both people.

The Elevator Pitch: A fiercely independent glass artist and a devoted young firefighter collide at the moment both are trying to prove what kind of lives they can build for themselves. As attraction deepens into something harder to ignore, love forces them to confront the difference between following an inherited path and choosing a future with open eyes. Fire can destroy, reshape, and reveal, and for these two, the greatest risk may be trusting each other without surrendering who they are.

Autumn in Cady Springs felt like the perfect setting for Caleb and Annie’s story. If you’ve been following Rocky Mountain Autumn Nights, I hope you’ll enjoy spending a little more time here. If this is your first visit, you can begin with this couple. Their romance can be enjoyed on its own.

Caleb and Annie are probably the youngest couple I’ve written about. That gave Mountain Man’s Fire & Glass a different feeling for me. There’s something especially tender about discovering someone you want a future with while you’re still figuring out what that future might look like. Of course, young love in an Opal Nicks book comes with plenty of heat.

I usually give my heroes a little mileage before love catches up with them. They’ve had time to develop some habits, acquire a few scars, and convince themselves they’re perfectly fine on their own. Caleb is still finding his footing. And writing him falling for Annie reminded me how much I enjoy a love story between two people whose futures are just beginning to take shape.

Caleb is a young firefighter determined to prove himself. If you’ve read Wild For The Mountain Man, you’ve already met his father. Now his son gets a love story of his own, and I loved returning to that family through the next generation.

Annie is a glass artist. Fire is part of her work, too, but she uses it to make beautiful things. I was drawn to that connection between them: the same element plays such a different role in each of their lives.

Neither career leaves much room for carelessness. Attraction, however, doesn’t wait for a convenient moment or ask whether you feel ready.

I’ll leave you to discover how these two find their way toward each other. What I can tell you is that I wanted to give them room to be young, capable, passionate, and still learning. They don’t have every answer before they fall in love. Who does?

Happy reading,

Opal

This was a fun and engaging read that brings together two people still working their way towards their futures. That they end up finding their place with each other was great to follow. Caleb has plans for his career as a firefighter but he finds himself questioning the reason for making those plans. Annie is a glass sculptor with her first big commission and she's so hoping to leave her waitressing job behind to be the artist she knows she can be. I really enjoyed seeing these two support each other, let the feelings bloom between them, and the way they let their chemistry spark. Full of heart and heat, this was a page turner for me. Good fun!

Sweet romance about patience and understanding between Annie and Caleb.

I have recently found Opal Nicks and have enjoyed the few stories that I have read so far. I realized that the couple of Mountain Man’s Fire & Glass are young adults and are coming of age and understanding love. After finishing Ms. Nick’s stories I like to visit the book’s Goodreads page where I can get the behind-the-scenes from the author herself and indeed, this might be the youngest couple she has written yet and are discovering their place in the world.

Caleb is a firefighter and Annie is an artist who uses fire when creating her pieces. They are compatible in many ways and you will enjoy watching their relationship grow as the story progresses. Caleb pays attention and patiently learns how to be himself and still the man Annie needs. Annie allows Caleb in and learns how to let him make his own choices without making demands. This is a beautiful romance story for any age.

This series is set in Cady Springs, one of the sweetest small-towns, with couples that give hope that a special one is out there for everyone. The imagery found throughout this story is what you expect from Opal Nicks and this series. I know I would love to visit this mountain if it was real and light the eternity flame at Stone Mountain Weddings.

Annie is fiercely independent, determined to make her art on her terms. Caleb is part of the fire crew. Annie calls 911 when she finds an older couple in their car that went off the road, Caleb’s crew shows up to do the rescue. Opal wrote these characters extremely well, the best characters are those the readers can relate to and I could relate to Annie’s hardships and Caleb’s instinct to help when her plans get derailed by a fire in her workshop. I look forward to reading more of the Rocky Mountain Autumn Nights series very soon.

Mountain Man's Fire and Glasd

Great read. Some spots I thought were a little slow. But over all it was a great story with a so so ending. I would have liked it to go a little further into the future.
