Some love stories begin with a kiss. Ours began with a dead body.

Twelve years ago, they ruined my life.

Silas. Rowan. Calder. Jax.

My best friends.
My first loves.
The boys who swore they’d never leave me.

Then they murdered my husband… and disappeared before sunrise.

I spent years rebuilding myself from the wreckage they left behind. Years convincing myself I hated them enough to survive without them.

But now they’re back.

They’ve forced their way back into my life with rough hands, dangerous promises, and the same devastating pull I never truly escaped.

But the men standing in front of me aren’t boys anymore.

They’re killers.

Part of a vigilante organization known only as The Silent Syndicate—a group that hunts monsters the law can’t touch and executes them without remorse.

And somehow, the most terrifying part isn’t what they’ve done.
It’s how badly I still want them.

But the deeper I fall back into their world, the more dangerous the truth becomes.
Because the truth will destroy us all.

SEVERED THREADS is a dark, why choose/reverse harem (meaning the female main character has multiple love interests and never has to choose between the men she wants), romantic suspense trilogy featuring morally gray vigilantes, obsessive love, found family, trauma healing, and men who would absolutely kill for the woman they love. It is book 1 of The Silent Syndicate and ends on a cliffhanger. It contains adult themes, sensitive topics, and is solely intended for mature audiences 18+. It is recommended that readers consult the trigger warnings found in the foreword before reading.

About the author

K.L. Lindsey

K.L. Lindsey writes dark romance because it’s cheaper than therapy and way more fun. She has a soft spot for golden retriever men with sharp teeth, traumatized girls who burn the world down, and plot twists that hurt.

No one knows if she’s chaotic-neutral or just caffeine-dependent. Probably both.

When she’s not writing morally questionable characters doing morally questionable things, she’s rereading her favorite scenes and wondering if she should warn her readers… (She won’t.)

She lives in a house full of books and bad decisions with her husband, kids, and cats.

***I was given this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review.***

***Please, check the trigger warning for this book as there are some heavy themes and on page descriptions of DA and SA.***

I loved every second of this book. It was hard to put down and do real life and go to bed at a decent time. Once I started I was hooked. There are flashbacks throughout the book which I typically struggle with in a book but I even gobbled those up and never got confused about where we were in the story and what was happening. Those flashbacks are essential to understanding the dynamic between the main characters in present day.

This is a why choose where the FMC and her 4 MMC’s all met as children, grew up as best friends while all secretly pining for each other. She agrees to an arranged marriage to help her deceased parents business to thrive going forward. The marriage isn’t a healthy one, to say the least. This is where her best friends come to her rescue and end up forming the Silent Syndicate. The SS unalives abusive men/husbands. But once they do this they disappear. For 12 years!

In present day, they show back up and in their own ways keeps trying to worm their way back into her life and ultimately her heart. With the help of the FMC’s, live in, housekeeper, Marta. I swear Marta has a past and secrets of her own that are dark and I NEED a Marta novella. Our FMC is independent, can protect herself, has zero trust…and may just have a secret of her own.

🪡 Why Choose - 1 FMC, 4 MMC’s
🪡 Touch her & - Literally.
🪡 Trauma & healing
🪡 Trust constantly being tested on all sides
🪡 Strong, Independent FMC
🪡 Goofy and Impulsive MMC
🪡 Dominate MMC
🪡 Stalker MMC
🪡 Quiet but sees everything MMC
🪡 🌶️🌶️🌶️

This is book 1 of a trilogy and book 1 ends on quite the cliff hanger! I need book 2 asap! Thank you for the early copy KL & I’ll go read Damaged while I wait for book 2.

Thank you K.L. Lindsey for the ARC, this is my honest review.

I love a good dark why choose and this one hit the mark. I

Liz had me hooked with her black cat energy and her don't mess with me attitude. And the guys were incredible. Four very different personalities, each bringing something unique to the story. Jax and Calder give us more of that golden retriever energy, while Rowan and Silas are on the more serious, controlled side. I loved getting to know each of them, and having POVs from all the characters made the story even more engaging.

The storyline was another major highlight for me. The shifts between past and present flowed seamlessly, gradually revealing the events that led to where we are now. It all came together so well and laid a strong foundation for what I think is going to be one hell of a series.

And that cliffhanger?! This book ends on a wild note that leaves you questioning what just happened and desperately wanting answers. If that ending is any indication of what's coming next, book two has some serious explaining to do!

I can't believe I'm going to have to wait to read the next book, this was so good. Reading this as an ARC reader means it's not even released yet so who knows when the other 2 books will be released.

I am so invested in Liz (Liesel), Silas, Calder, Rowan and Jax's story.

Liesel is friends with 4 boys, she is their whole world, but is totally unaware of their feeling for her. At 18 she is coerced into marrying by her 3 brothers, they tell her it's to help shore up the family company.

Unfortunately, her husband Henry turns out to be far from nice and for a whole year she suffers at his hands.

Events come to a head when she is hospitalised and the hospital contacts Silas, as her emergency contact.

This story is told in two timelines, the present and the past, from when Liesel was 10 up to when they take her from hospital, make her theirs and then kill her husband.

This story touches on DA and 🍇, so it might be triggering to some, it also contains murder, but no graphic descriptions. That aside the spice in this book is 🔥🌶 and hits all the right spots.

The writing by K. L. Lindley is so well done that you get sucked right in. As her other books are why choose as well, I will definitely be reading them, while I wait for the next instalment of the Silent Syndicate trilogy to be released.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

😱😱😱 I have no words! This spicy masterpiece has left me kinda speechless

K.L cannot write a book I will not devour! She just has a way with words that grab you hook, line and sinker and you will want to read everything she has ever written!

What a ride! This book will suck you in and leave you drooling over these men! The twists and turns and the shock factor will leave you speechless!

These boys will stop at nothing to win back Liz’s love and attention, she is theirs and they will go to great lengths to prove it to her, but live isn’t that simple when your the Silent Syndicate and your profession is saving and protecting woman who have been victimized by the men who are supposed to love and care about them.

Liz, Silas, Jax, Rowan and Calder all grew up together as best friends and when Liz’s parents die she is forced into a marriage to save the family’s business, but Henry is not the man she was lead to believe he was, things start happening as soon as the I do’s are said. The boys find out and things will never be the same again. They finally have her back in their grasp but can they keep her there? Watch out for that ending, it’ll get ya!

I. Am. Wrecked. I’ve spent the past ten minutes or so just staring into the abyss, trying to digest the fact that I’m only one book in to this story and already feeling too emotionally fragile to function. I’m not sure what I’ll do if it goes beyond a trilogy..

Despite how devastated I currently feel, I will be all over book number two. I’m invested. These characters have fought too long and too hard for their happily ever after and even though I know there’s more heartache ahead because of course there is, I can’t abandon them now!

Please let this time to go by so fast. 4.5 (very emotional) stars. ✨

This was such a fantastic read! I was instantly drawn in by the first line in the book. The writing is so well done; the author handles the topic of rape and abuse with care. The way it is described may be hard for some to read but it is all truly how abuse goes for some women. I also loved that this wasn’t just a regular, old romance. This story is about real struggles in life that most people don’t want to even think about, but it’s also about being truly seen. The love between the main characters is something that many people look for; friendships turning into love, no matter how unorthodox people may think it is, it’s their love story…it’s not always just one man and one woman. I’m truly excited for the second book in this serious! Thank you so much for a truly amazing story!

I stumbled across this ARC opportunity on BookSirens and wow I am so glad. I've never read a K.L. Lindsey book before and I was immediately sucked in...stayed up way too late. Then stared at the wall forever after finishing with my heart in my throat. My visceral reaction to the cliffhanger along with finishing in like 5 hours, gets this banger a top tier infinity star rating from me. I feel so connected to the characters and their stories. I need more like I need air. Thank you K.L. Lindsey for this amazing read 🩷

10/10 recommend after you check your triggers as your mental health comes first!!!

I received an Advance Readers Copy for my honest review.
This is a second chance reverse romance with 4 guys who all grew up together with Liesel the main female character.
Filled with Liesel’s dark past marriage that shaped the guys to form the silent syndicate and how they had to leave her to cover up their crimes. They collide again 12 years later and fight to get back into her good graces but Liesel has secrets of her own. Lots of turns in this story and honestly I think there’s more to her personal chef than meets the eye. This story is not complete and your left with more questions than answers leaving you itching for the next book. Slow burn found family with lots of mystery.

Loved this dark reverse harem. Childhood friends to lovers to not exactly enemies, more that Liz ran. Or at least that’s what it seems like at first.
There were lots of twists and turns, Liz trying hard to let them in and trust that they wouldn’t hurt her again. The guys all felt different, both looks and personalities. I liked Calder best, the strong, steady stalker; though he’d suggest it was protective watchfulness!
Could’ve done with a bit more on Rowan, I felt I didn’t know him as much as the rest.
The ending felt like a double whammy, threats from both sides.
I can’t wait to see if they’re linked.

Give me emotional damage, unresolved feelings, a dark why choose romance, and characters desperately trying to find their way back to one another, and I'm hooked.

This book delivered the angst, the tension, and the emotional punch I was looking for.

Biggest fan of Marta, and I want to be her when I grow up.

I love that even the cinnamon roll guy is more Rottweiler than Golden Retriever, and they’d all a bit crazy. And, the nicknames that they each have for her is top tier.

That cliffhanger 💀

Advanced Ready Copy from BookSirens.

This book was a rollercoaster from start to finish in the best way. Full of drama, trauma, love, hate and everything in between this read kept me on edge the whole book. The FMC has been through it and it feels like the surface has just been scratched as to what has happened to her. The MMCs are unhinged and spicy. The cliffhanger is one of the more intense ones I've been left with in the last little while of reading and I need the next book now.
