She’s always craved his touch…even though it’s forbidden.

When Ash is assigned her first feature as a reporter, it should have been simple: interview a real life Dominant for an article about BDSM. But her subject is none other than Darien Gallagher, her best friend’s stepfather…and it’ll be an interview she never forgets.

What started for Dare as a lesson in sensual domination suddenly has become so much more. He can't deny the spark between them, even though he knows she’s completely off limits. With every seductive word, every lesson, Dare tests Ash's resolve and pushes her boundaries. But at the same time, her boss Adam has her craving things she shouldn’t.

While Ash finds herself dreaming of both men, a dark secret threatens to destroy everything. But how can she hold onto a relationship that isn’t even real?

As a romance novel reader, we all know the basics that go into writing romance and a great author knows how to capture that. We all love the hunt, feel the emotion, watch the chase, and finally sigh at the fall. But sometimes we want to just settle into a smokin hot book without having to think or feel. Just relax and experience it. And let me tell you this book is loaded with experience!

I was happy to be able to read this book for review because it contains a straightforward story about down and dirty love, some amazing romance, and great storyline.

The author entertained the heck out of me with this steamy book. I love the hot and heavy storyline where the heroine just a wee bit of a naughty girl. Something we all kind of wish we had going on. There were a few places that were stilted and just didn't flow right for me but overall, it was delicious!

Heated scenes of mild BDSM and straightup sex make up a large part of this book but when we don't want to think about anything that's going on or put a lot of emotion into reading a book, sometimes that's just the best type of entertainment that we can enjoy. Let me just say the ending was HOT!

The author did an awesome job describing the passion these characters felt in such a way we could just picture it right in front of us. The plot of story was different and so enjoyable as well. It made for a pleasurable read and definitely a memorable one.

Smokin hot! Smoking hot!

An unconventional romance!!!! My Best Friend's Stepfather is not your standard erotic romance. This book explores and pushes boundaries of what is consider the norm. The title alone of the book screams forbidden and lets just say every aspect of this book is exploring and discovering your sexuality. And for the heroine, Ash, her sexuality is about to be explored as she is taken down on a new sexual adventure of BDSM. While Ash knew what she was getting into with the her best friend's stepfather a well known BDSM dominant, she didn't expect that she would like it. Well more than like it, love it. She loved how Dare was able to dominant and control her body while pushing her to a whole new sexual high. But as Ash explores this new sexual adventure, her feelings for Adam, her best friend deepens. As she ventures into this uncharted territory of loving two men, can she make a choice of who she wants to end up with?

While this is not my ideal love story, Opal Carew does take her readers on one forbidden erotic romance that will definitely leave you surprise. So if you are looking for a hot dirty erotic forbidden romance then this book my might be for you.

I really wasn't expecting it to end up how it did when I went into it which means the author eliminated some of the inherent predictability. Dare is a mature man who shows Ash about the BDSM world on his own terms. Adam is the man she's had feelings toward for a long time and he finally fesses up after she gets involved with Dare. She is torn between them but there is an ultimate resolution that could lead to happiness. I liked the plot though some elements are not what I usually go for.

My Best Friend's Stepfather is my first book by Opal Carew. There have been so many good ratings on most of her other books and I was excited to get started on this one. Unfortunately, it fell a little short for me. I wasn't bad, it started out good, actually, but even when I read erotica, I like for there to be other things going on as well and I felt like this one just had a little too much filler. I just didn't connect with it. The story line was fine but I needed more content than just sex scenes. However, if you're just looking for something steamy to get you through all this snowy/cold weather, this book is for you.

Ashley is writing an article for the magazine she works for on the relationship between Doms and Subs. The Dom that she is interviewing just happens to be the ex-stepfather to a friend that Ashley had in high school. Although I never really felt as if Ashley and Helen were friends, which could be the point of that relationship. I also needed more information on why Helen is the way she is. I understand that she didn't really have that stability in her life of a father figure but she is just diabolical.

At best, this is BDSM Lite coupled with a Poly relationship between 2 bisexual men, and a 20 something woman, who is just discovering her sexuality. Although it was somewhat captivating, it had a few issues (i.e. a TSTL female character, melodrama, and lag)... Other than that, it was a decent way to spend a relaxing day off...

This book was all serials put together into one book. I am reviewing them all as 1 book here.

From the blurb under the book I expected this book to go completely differently.

The premise is that Ashley might get the "story of a lifetime" about a "real life Christian Grey".....sorta heard this before.

She's supposed to write a story about a Dom and all that it entails in a Dom/Sub relationship. He is going to "train her" and be her "mentor". This I didn't feel.

BUT it's actually not the same as Christian Grey! Because this guy is her best friend's stepfather, which apparently is supposed to be taboo.

Not only that, but Ashley and her boss, Adam have been secretly in love with each other for quite a while. But neither has told the other.

So that's the bare bones let me explain a bit further my issues with this book.

This story is just so convoluted I had no idea what was going on!

First the title: My Best Friend's Stepfather, we learn that Helen, the aforementioned BFF is not actually Dare, Mr. BDSM himself's stepdaughter, see her mom and Dare divorced. Not only that but she and Ashley aren't really BFFs any more because she dropped off the face of the earth.

My next issue, the article, it was basically a ploy to get the story going, mentioned here or there at a whim, but by the end of the book we don't know if it was a career altering article, if it was even written or what.

The continual issue of Ashley thinking that Dare is her bff's stepfather like woah I don't know what to do. /sarcasm. It got old, it got annoying and FAST.

The "lessons" what exactly were they teaching Ashley about Dom/Sub relationships? Because what I saw wasn't really anything in the BDSM category. So what were they supposed to teach?

After one particular lesson, Dare tells Ashley that maybe she and her friend, the guy she's got feelings for and that they could practice. So basically she and Adam end up doing some practicing, but she basically mimics exactly how the scenario went with Dare, it was just weird, because the impression I got from Dare was that she needed to try to take control a bit more and make decisions for herself, not carbon copy her session with Dare.

Then there is Helen, she makes an abrupt appearance into the plot line. She also is SUPER creepy, and weird. She's basically trying to seduce Dare, and continually calls him "Daddy" *shudder*.

Then Ashley and Adam have moments with each other and she asks him to wait for her to be done with Dare because it will be a short fling. I mean it was weird. Naturally he didn't want for that to happen and asked her to choose, but she didn't want to and it was eventually swept under the rug. Did I mention that Adam used to intern for Dare, and thus both know each other but Dare didn't know it was Adam who Ashley was seeing??

Now here is where things go a little crazy

I want to thank Netgalley for giving me this book for free for my open and honest opinion!

Just when you think that Erotica maven Opal Carew's novels can't possibly get any steamier. She manages to pull the wonder that is My Best Friend's Stepfather out of her salaciously wondrous bag of literary tricks.

Honestly enough, the story starts off a tad on the vanilla side, as far as the BDSM side of things goes. Dare is a good Dom, but he does manage to keep things very much Christian Grey, during his sessions with Ashley.

While all the reasons that Ashley becomes infatuated with the enigmatic and most decidedly alpha, Dare, are glaringly obvious from the start. Those surrounding Ashley's feelings for her clearly beta friend and boss, Adam, are allowed to languish in slightly murkier waters.

The reason for the indecisiveness on the part of Adam lying not at his feet, but at those of both Ashley and Dare.
Ashley being to blame because she refuses to make things easy for her two lovers and choose.
Dare, because of some hinted past between he and Adam,
that remains unresolved for a large portion of this read.

So readers get to sit through a great deal of human ping pong, with Ashley as a very willing and ready ball.
While this constant back and forth is great from a sexual standpoint, the schoolyard nature of the emotional aspect of their struggle gets tiring after a while.
The addition of Dare's very dysfunctional ex-stepdaughter/stepdaughter, Helen, into the mix; provides a strange and very unexpected catalyst that helps to move the story along quite nicely.

It is after dearest Helen manages to spill the much lamented beans, that things really start to change for the better.
The sex and story really take off, and the romance becomes all the sweeter.

How you ask?
Well, let's just say that sometimes great things have a habit of coming in threes.
Opal Carew's exploration and treatment of the M/M/F ménage pairing is so sensual, and well represented in this book, that the whole experience elevates this story from the everyday to the extraordinary.

As such, authoress Carew also succeeds in tying up all of her story's loose ends in a very colorful and all-inclusive happily ever after bow.

Reviewer's Note: This book has been released as both a serial novella and a complete work. It is the opinion of this review that this book is best enjoyed as a complete volume.

The book didn’t exactly go as I thought it would, and it had its good points and some very bad points.

So..here goes my explanation. I very much enjoyed the relationships in this book! Dare, Ashley…and Adam (I promise not to give away too much) they are just SOOO yummy together! I am missing the BDSM though, I mean, Ashley is supposed to be getting “trained” by Dare..but it’s not really training…I guess I’m confused there.

ALSO- I’m EXTREMELY thrown off this book by Helen, not because she’s a friend and Dare is her Step-father, but not really and it’s confusing why it would be such a big deal when it really freaking isn’t AND Helen and Ashley aren’t even BFF anymore OH AND she’s super duper creepy and gross..ANYWAY…

The article…what the heck happened there?? I mean…was it even important or was it just a plot setter and then it was just decided that everyone just stop talking about it like it never even happened??

LASTLY--- THE ENDING--- LIKE WHAT THE HECK JUST HAPPENED???!!! I did NOT see that coming and it’s actually kind of disturbing and I don’t really know what to think about it. Believe me..when you get to this particular spot you will be thinking EXACTLY the same thing!

So- The romance is amazing in this book, but the rest really was just confusing and had my head hurting. But even though I am not that thrilled with this one, I will be reading more from Opal because she is an incredible author.

I feel I have to mention, this is a ménage book with M/M moments, which I personally don’t care about one way or the other. But there are people out there who would pick this up expecting it to be a M/F semi normal relationship and I just want to put out there that it is not and if you’re not into M/M or Ménage then you shouldn’t read this book!

This book really took trust in the author to read, as if I am being brutal the notion of a "stepfather" affair just sends images of REALLY OLD DUDES PERVING.......*Shudders*. Combine that with BDSM annnnnnnd were in territory I was unsure my poor brain would recover from !!

I am sooooo glad I took the said leap of faith !!. This book was AWESOME !!. This is Ashley and Dare's (and Adams) story.

Ashley has been asked by her boss Adam to do an article about Dom's.......no hardship until off she pops to interview said Mr Dom himself......Dare. Dare turns out to be some-one that Ashley knew in the past. He was the stepfather of an old friend (although thanks god their not friends anymore. I will get to Helen in a bit). Moving on.....my greedy brain cells screamed "what's the connection between these two hot guys ?". The way Ashley could just not make a choice between the two hunks, was if I am being honest frustrating.....but I got it.....she wanted her cake AND to well and truly eat it !!!!.

Helen the "stepdaughter" was just a FREAK or maybe that was just my take on her. Glad that's cleared up. The only reason this story got 4 shiny ones rather than 5 was "the event" with Helen and Dare ???????!!!!!!!!!. Saying NO more on that one, but my molars sure as hell protested !!!

Overall Opal leaves the reader with a VERY intense, intricate story line. Really good character development and pace. I was glad the term "stepfather" did not really apply to the story. Its more of a "headliner" to wet your appetite !!!

Overall a fabulous read !!!. Normally M/F/M love stories annoy me as I want it all sown up and neatly packaged.......I was happy with this ending.

Well done Opal and Many thanks Netgalley for this opportunity xx

Later peeps xx

Ashley wants to do an article on BDSM for the magazine where she works. Dare, a Dom, tells her the best way for her to learn about BDSM is to live it. He will teach her. She is hesitant because Dare is her friend's ex-stepfather but she is also exciting and willing to learn. Her boss, Adam, who has feelings for her is not happy with the way she is doing her research for her article.

I enjoyed this story. I liked the characters. I also liked that Ashley was unsure of her feelings but with her friend Jessie giving her ideas and Helen, the ex-best friend, telling her stories of the past, once she is given an option she goes with it. I did not see the ending coming but it was perfect. The sex was hot and plentiful.

A hot, quick read.

The title pretty much tells you everything you need to know. Although, this is billed as a BDSM book and I would disagree. The dom aspect is extremely light and I think it would be more accurately advertised as a love triangle/poly relationship story.

It was pretty much straight porn. And (as I expected from the title) there were many parts that just made me feel icky.

Think i'll go take a shower now....

Ashley works as a reporter for a magazine company. Her boss, Adam has become one of her closest friends. They met when she was only sixteen and he was older. He was friends with her brother and although he found her attractive he didn’t cross the line.
Ashley wants to experience a dominant/ submissive relationship as research for her next magazine article. She finds a man willing to give her the interview she needs but soon realises he is the stepfather of an old friend.
The lines begin to blur in this erotic romance novel and Ash is about to get everything she wants.

Hot and x-rated. 4.5 stars out of 5.

The title of this book sounded so much better than what this book turned out to be. I think if Helen and Ashley would of been current best friends, or possibly have seen each other more over the last six years then maybe that aspect of the title would of been more believable and more interesting.

If you are reading this for the BDSM aspect then don't. There is little of it in this book and what there is, is poorly written.

The other thing that bothered me about this book is this author doesn't use chapters. I have never read a book in my life that doesn't have chapters. Even self-published books have chapters.

This book Is readable, I just would not spend $14.99 to do so.

If you want to read this for Dare the Dom then I'm sorry your going to be disappointed, there isn't a dominating bone in his body. Saying that if you like M/M or M/F/M then this is maybe for you. I enjoyed the love triangle aspect and it appears you can have your cake and eat it. But what let this book down big time was Helen the stepdaughter. No, just No!

Ah this book was something. Had so much potential. I liked the M/M/F factor and thought that was quite unique. I had a problem with Helen and the first half-ish of the book was quite boring. The last half was steamy as hell and I enjoyed that

This was a very interesting book.  It was full of twists and turns and it was enthralling.  The characters were well developed and they all had lots of chemistry.  What started as an article about BDSM becomes a triangle of love.  You have Darien a dominant that has had an interest in Ashley for a long time but now she is an adult and he can act on his desire.  Then there is Ashley a girl that had a crush on her friend's stepfather and now she has the possibility to be with him even though it's just for her article.  But she is also interested in her boss Adam, she thinks that he doesn't see her but if she only knew that he sees her with hunger in his eyes.  When Adam hears what Ashley is about to do and he figures out who she will be training with he knows that he is in trouble.  What is he going to do when Ashley starts to fall in love with Darien.  What is Ashley going to do when she realizes that she has fallen in love with both Darien and Adam?  But that is not the only thing that will be coming in-between them there is another person that is going to make trouble for their relationship.

I totally recommend this read!

This book was interesting to say the least it shocked me and made me question what I was reading. Near the end it was like a bad soap opera that couldn’t figure out what to do so just through everything they could think of into it. I HATED the fact that the book was great with the love triangle thing going on but then they brought in this male/male romance thing and it just didn’t fit. I couldn’t picture either of the characters being bisexual and so it just ended up ruining the rest of the story for me. And then the author also through in the fact that the stepdaughter is obsessed with her step dad and makes a move on him well he’s with Ashley. It’s just wrong.. and then if that’s not enough there we also find out that the stepdaughter also snuck into her stepdads room and fucked him well he was sleeping and thinking it was Ashley. And then to add to it she also becomes pregnant with his kid. This book was just wrong.
Up until they started all the crazy shit I liked it, that is the part of this book that is getting 3/5 stars for me. The rest of it gets 1/5 stars because it was unbelievably unnecessary!

NO NO NO
DO NOT READ THIS BOOK

My thoughts (some spoilers):
It started off decent but just went completely down hill. I went into this knowing nothing, I didn’t read what it was about to keep things interesting. So when BDMS was introduced I was excited because I haven’t read one in a while. But when I read from three POV I was confused because it highly uncommon in these types of books. Then I realize that there was a love triangle. I am personally not the biggest fan of love triangles and try to avoid them, and this book just made me dislike them even more. It’s was super back and forth which got boring after a while. I was convinced for most of the book that Ashley was going to end up with Dare. I personally am not a huge LGBT book lover, while I support the community I do not want to read about it. So when the “big secret” of Dare and Adam being in love was revealed I was about ready to DNF but there wasn’t much left in the book so I decided to push through because I don’t like DNFing. Then the polyamorous relationship was introduced and I felt so uncomfortable and discussed. This was a wft book. Would never ever recommend.

I really love this author. One of the first erotic author I read. She is a very good writer and plots are very interesting and I guess very unusual for me anyway. I do enjoy an menage once I started reading them and this author introduced me to the menage genre. In this book Ashley is a journalist and looks into the Dom/sub culture and interviews a local billionaire Darien Gallager aka 'Dare'. He agrees to the interview but soon decides he has to have the very young Ashley. Once Ashley accepts Dare as her trainer she succumbs to her desires and goes to Dare willingly meanwhile there is her close friend and boss, Adam who starts to believe that he will lose any chance of a relationship beyond a friendship if Ashley continues with Darien. Once the setting is established the reading is quick and beyond steamy. With more drama throw into the mix it is a book you cannot put down but before that I could not get into it. I was waiting for the customary jumping into the sexy hot scenes to begin but in this book it does not happen until the later pages. Still a good story.

I got an ARC of this book for an honest opinion. I did enjoy this book though going in I didn't realize it was going to be M/F/M - M/M I don't usually read stories like this as I have trouble seeing someone share the person they love. I detest cheating which is what Ash was doing to Adam, before they started their threesome relationship. The fact that the author made it feel real that they all loved each other helped. I have to say it kind of turns me off when they do anal sex without condoms., and then switching up. And the fact that Dare said the child was not his without a DNA test if Helen really did sleep with him. I reread that part 3 times and at no point did I see where she told him they didn't sleep together or that it wasn't his baby. So for him to say it's not his was confusing. And for them to adopt it if it wasn't so that psychopath Helen wold be around all the time. Uh..no. This story had a lot going on for it to only be 49 pages. I wouldn't by it for a friend or myself as the price is more than it should be for the length.

My Best Friend's Stepfather is a very much a spicy, dirty, BDSM romance. Ashley always had a thing for Dare, now as an adult, a one-time interview leads to something more. Ash experiences a sexual awakening in her for both Dare and his type of play. Add to that, an unrequited love for a childhood crush and the return of (ex) best friend, tensions soon arise, adding fuel to this hot love.

This whole novel is not only a menage a trois, but a power play of dominance between lovers. Highly sexual, as promised by the premise, the plot itself is just okay. While I like that it's relatively short, the conflict that goes in the subplots are resolved a little too quick without much pacing, hence the 3 stars.

As always Opal Carew delivers a hot, sexy novel where you don't know exactly where everyone is going to wind up. This one sets up the main character Ashley writing an article about her experience with a dominant man who happens to be her ex best friend's stepfather. However minus the beginning that is the last time you hear about the "article" and it becomes a straight sex fest for the rest of the novel. This novel was a little too fast-paced, skimming over a lot of the depth of the characters. It made me miss her earlier novels like Insatiable or Total Abandon, but it still was good. =)

This was an *okay* read. I stress *okay* because it had its fualts. The lead male is hot? I guess? He's supposed to be this experienced Dom, but he turns out to be a bit of a sad pushover. The lead female is just.... Just dumb. The co-starring male is...... Kinda desperate. There's a whole awkward stepdaughter portion of the show that just seemed so unnecessary and tedious to read through. Literally skimmed the middle section. And then the ending.... Huh...

This is my second Opal Carew read. I have one more on my shelf, and then I think I'm done with this author.

Went in blind on this one. Not what I expected at all by the title. Adam, Der, and Ashley. The indecisiveness of Ashley was annoying and how they were both ok with her just being with someone else but not ok because they wanted her themself. Then finding out about the men use to be in a relationship. So no surprise then that the 3 of them got together.
The baby twist was so stupid

This book was pretty good. I thought that it was just going to be a D/s romance book. But no...it was a pretty good twist, I have to admit. I did feel like there was too much back and forth between who she wanted to be with. I would have liked for the end relationship to be talked about a little longer. So more her and the guys and less Helen. I guess I would recommend this to romance lovers.
