I am on Week 1 day 1 of the cleanse so I can't really speak to results yet! However I have done the Shred plan & lost 20 lbs after repeating for 3 cycles! All the smoothies & shakes in this cleanse are delicious!
Update : I finished week 1 & am down 7 lbs!!! And that is with going to the gym only 3 days!!! On week 2 now! I will report back with total weight lost on my last day!! I can definitely tell my stomach is a lot smaller. ! : )
What is fitness for? If you were to ask the average gym member why they are picking things up and putting them back down, or running in place, or repeatedly jumping on and off of a wooden box, you would get a small assortment answers: To get bigger, stronger, thinner, faster, maybe more flexible, and occasionally because it makes them feel good and they just really likes it. Shake that last person’s hand and tell them to keep it up.
But nutrition is a big factor in any fitness program. You need to eat right for energy and for cleansing. And along with nutrition comes calories, or better known as “dieting.” Calories are a big important factor in any fitness program.
In his article, “The Latest Fitness Craze Isn’t About Weight Loss,” Patrick Mustain writes: “This traditional myopic take on movement is usually also accompanied by the hype, the shaming, the fostering of unattainable expectations, the obsessive focus on body weight and shape, and the general misleading marketing techniques of the commercial fitness industry. Add it all up and it doesn’t take deep examination to realize that most of the folks who are claiming to help us get fit and healthy are doing a poor job.
But a growing number of fitness professionals and businesses are rejecting the ‘get-ripped, blast-belly-fat, buy-our-product’ approach that has dominated the health and fitness narrative. These gyms, programs, and professionals are tapping into backgrounds in physical therapy, sports performance, medicine, martial arts, and, by golly, actual science, to help their clients learn to move, and move well.”

Smith covers everything in his book. In 2010, Dr. Smith was appointed to the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports, and Nutrition by President Obama.
As a fitness buff myself (I work out five times a week), I adhere to a somewhat nutritional plan. Though it is not the best, I maintain a sense of credibility towards my goal of losing body fat and gaining muscle mass. To do a cleansing program would not be right for me.
The only question that had I posed to myself was, what would happen when the two week program was over? Do you repeat, or do you just carry on with the basic principles that were offered to you in the book by Dr. Smith?
Dr. Smith is very thorough with his descriptive manner. In fact, I found the book to be very repetitive. I was actually able to skip through a lot of it, because of the repetition. Also, I noticed that page numbers were missing from some pages that just had text on them. One page had a picture on it and therefore, the page number was missing because of that reason.
He does give recipes for smoothies. Some of them look and sound interesting; some of them don’t.
“The Shred Power Cleanse” is a very informative, educational book. For a basic fitness beginner, I would recommend this book. For an advance fitness person, skip it.
Most of the recipes look great, I can't wait to try then out ..I'm on vacation. I just started weight watchers on Friday and these recipes will mix well with that plan also. I know that there is a companion book; so I don't expect it to go into detail; however, I would have given this book 5+ stars if it had a tiny blurb. Things such as a quick sentence on " the cantelope ....vitamin....activates...readmore in the...book... I m going to get the other book to read because the recipes were great so I think the companion will be helpful. Even if I just combine what I use with ww in a way that works for my family and i...as I look forward to sneaking healthy dishes to make them healthier...OH, AND I LOVE THAT YOU CAN MAKE A PITCHER, PUT IT IN THE FRIDGE, AND SHARE IT, OR DRINK IT FOR BREAKFAST 3 OF 4DAYS IN A ROW! Ian Smith must know what it's like to live I. A real world with a real family also,I rarely review,I need to be super impresses ( Or super not smh) obviously not the case bere.
Knowing what I know about diet and nutrition, I can't take this book seriously. Eating clean has nothing to do with drinking your meals, that is a path to failure. Further, the persistent recommendation to eat "low fat" yogurts, dressings, etc. to me indicates a complete disregard from the medical community that those items are actually detrimental to your health. To lose weight and get health you need to move, I agree with that. As far as diet it should be hormone free meats, full fat cheeses and unsweetened yogurt, fresh vegetables, nuts and occasional fruits in moderation. This book plays into the billion dollar industry that lies to over weight consumers about the steps needed to lead a healthy lifestyle. I would give this book no stars if I could.
I like most of the recipes and the information provided regarding detoxification. But there are lots of repetitions in the daily eating schedules and I would have preferred more veggie smoothies and less fruit ingredients. But I will try it and also look out for the other Shred books. Would have loved a grocery shopping list at the beginning of the recipes.
I'm giving it a 4 star rating because it works. But there is a lot of wasted paper b/c it repeats itself for every day. It says to pay attention b/c it varies... Didn't notice any variance. I felt great. Only did the first week, but lost 6 lbs.
Well, yeah, I had better lose weight if I only ate fruit smoothies (for 2 meals) and "clean salads" for 2 two weeks! Ok, he allows some snacks, but not enough. I'm sure I would feel great, but just not for me. But some awesome smoothie recipes.
