There's no place like home! But what if "home" happens to be the town's mysterious, rundown, mansion? At least that's what young Andrea Malone keeps asking herself ever since she bought the vacant, dilapidated house months ago.
Determined to put down roots in the cozy little town of Belhaven, she gets busy managing the much-needed renovations in order to revive the old house and restore it to the grandiose mansion it once was.
With the renovations nearly complete, the mysterious house begins to reveal secrets from its troubled past.
On the same day that her quirky parents arrive in town for a visit, Andrea makes a shocking discovery that has her questioning if she should spend another night in the house.
She calls on her friend and amateur sleuth, Gloria Rutherford, to help her get to the bottom of the mysteries that surround the mansion.
The more clues Gloria uncovers, the deeper the mysteries get. She discovers that some of the local town folk would prefer that the secrets remain buried in the past.
Andrea has made the decision to stay in Belhaven, buy the Magnolia Mansion and fix it up. That was when a body is shows up. Of course Gloria is hands on from the very beginning. She is rarely too far behind a body being found.
She starts to work through some of the clues that are stumbled upon when they find an unusual feature on the debris from the remodel.
Now Gloria is all in. She is wanting to help Andrea even if that means having limited contact with Andrea's parents. They are not as pleasant as Andrea.
With familiar locations and familiar friends and family, it is very easy to get caught right back up with the Garden Girls. It is especially fun to see Gloria training Margaret and Lucy.
Gloria is a really active grandmother and boy does she love when the grandsons come to visit. They might be a little bit hard to handle, but she enjoys it.
It is another fun cozy mystery that leaves you satisfied with this case but ready to move on to the next book.
I've quickly become quite fond of this series. Gloria and the garden girls are wonderful characters and I love the silly antics that Gloria's grandsons get into.
This is a well-written Christian based Whodunit with just the right amount of suspense. It has a great storyline and character development and is a unique mix of mystery, murder, mayhem, family and true friendships. I found myself laughing out loud more than once and was stumped as to who the villain was until the very end. I’ve loved reading all of the Garden Girls books and highly recommend this series to anyone who loves cozy mysteries (there is no offensive language, graphic violence or sexually explicit scenes). All six books in this series can be read and enjoyed by the entire family. I’m anxious to see what predicaments Gloria, her friends and family get into next and what mystery they solve.
I just love the Garden Girls Mysteries. In this 6th book in the series the girls are working to solve a murder in the Magnolia Mansion. There are times when it is hilarious and times when you want to choke someone (ie Andrea's mother) and tell her to get a life. You will enjoy this book and will not want to miss a page of it as you try to figure out who the villian is.
Magnolia Mansion Mysteries is a good book as you would expect from Hope Callaghan. This Christian Cozy mystery features Gloria Rutherford in book 6 of the Garden Girl Series. it's fun as the girls work together to solve the mystery of Magnolia Mansion. This is a must read series.
I tell ya - I’m in love with this series. Next to the Divine series by Hope Callaghan, this is my next favorite. There are also recipes included in the back. This book has “Cheddar Cheese Chicken Baker Recipe” which I plan to make very soon.
I truly like getting to know all of the Garden Girl characters even better in each new book. There are also other characters that are unique in their own special way and add spice to each read. We just met Andrea’s family maid and chef who lived with Andrea, her parents, and Pierce Weight in New York from the time Andrea was an infant. Now that Andrea has an enormous home in Michigan and she lives alone in it, she has decided to invite the maid, “Alice” to live with her in which she accepted.
Anna, who Andrea has always called “Alice” is one hot tamale! Apparently, she has quite a bit of spunk and I’m sure she’ll add some mysteries of her own in the upcoming books of this 23 book series.
Next up is book 7 “Missing Milt”. In fact, in this 6th book, Gloria’s sister, Liz and Liz’s friend, Frances are beside themselves because Milt has been missing for a few days now. Liz has requested Gloria’s assistance in locating him, but at the time Gloria was caught up in trying to find out who killed the person whose bones were found in Andrea’s dumpster. Now that the Garden Girls have solved that mystery, it’s on to finding Milton.
read as part of the Cozy Mysteries Collection: Home & Holiday Edition collection which had this at the end which had a GG#10 first so i read them out of order. It is listed as a 300+ pg book but it seemed much shorter so the collection must abridge the books definitely have better idea of characters. Gloria does seem to find bodies/mysteries everywhere. Gloria and Andrea find the skeleton of a decades long missing cad. while looking into it they also discover more about the previous residents.
I am enjoying this series. I like how the author adds scripture and prayer without being preachy. Another body is found at Magnolia Mansion which Andrea now owns. To make matters worse, her overbearing parents come to visit. The mom is a super clean freak and both parents do not care for any of Andrea's friends, including Gloria. Gloria and the rest of the Garden Club girls go snooping around to see if they can find out who the deceased is and how he died. Another mystery is the painting that was also discovered in the dumpster where the body was found. Not to give anything away, everything is sorted out in the end.
This book was quite interesting and it had more than one mystery going on at the same time. I got really creeped out in a few places. The suspense was that high! The author is fantastic. She blends the mysteries together and come out with a stunning mystery book. She is one of the best mystery writers that I have ever read. It is well worth a person's time to read her books. They are fantastic. Good clean mysteries laced with suspense, humor, and a little romance.
The house with many myseries- both current and old. A death from the past comes back and everyone wonders whodunit. Hidden rooms turn up everywhere. What more secrets does this house have to tell? I like that Alice comes to live with Andrea. I also enjoyed the cameo the granboys put in. They are a hoot!
Good, good, GOOD! 😊 The Garden Girls have a decades old mystery to solve and for once I hope no one gets arrested for it. That sounds weird 😕 but trust me after you read the story I bet you feel the same. Loved reading about the boy's visit and I am so glad Gloria has to keep up with them and not me😉!
Another winner in the garden girls mystery series. It's like visiting old friends as the characters are so familiar that you get caught up in their daily lives as you read the novel. Gloria and friends solve another murder mystery at Andrea's place. Her beau Paul doesn't mind that they are doing his job. Fun read.
The 6th installment in the series. This time the garden girls are solving a cold case with current implications. With each book, there is continued character development.
The books come as part of a box set of 10 stories. The mysteries are novella length and have multiple cliff hangers, so while they can technically be read as a stand alone, it's better to read them in order.
Gloria and the garden girls are on alert when Gloria and Andrea find a skeleton in the dumpster outside Andrea's house. The investigation causes some lost paintings to be found. All this while Andrea's parents are visiting and Gloria is teaching her grandsons how to drive a tractor Great series
I have now read the first 6 books of this series and can say I have loved them all. Gloria is awesome. Her adventures are wonderful journeys to be on. I find while reading these books i van not put them down. I look forward to reading more
Loved this book and the characters in the story. I think the Garden Girls series gets better and better as I read this series. I'm really looking forward to reading the next book.
How refreshing! This is a nice entertaining story of intrigue, mystery, community and love. The characters are a joy. No foul language. The simple story flows well and doesn’t bog down with over-explanation and words. Nice.
I love these stories . There is mystery, friendship with adventure. A small town with secrets that surface after an old home has a facelift. Accident, murder u be the judge.
The Garden Girls are a very interesting group. Gloria is dating a police detective who seems to find her always in the thick of things, especially if it's a murder investigation. There is fun when her young grandsons come to stay overnight. Good clean mystery.
A fun murder mystery with lovable characters. A great group of women solve mysteries in their little town while getting themselves into some unique situations.
