I was close. So close to living a life of happiness with them. Four men that seemingly want me, want to be a part of my life, when so many others chose not to be. With growly overbearing ways, sweet smiles, mouth-watering pastries and addictive kisses.
But a cruel twist snatches it—and me—away.
Now, I’m trapped in a nightmare, bruised and broken, struggling to hold on to any hope that I’ll survive this.
If I do make it out, will I even recognise what’s left of me? Will they still want me, even with my cracked, damaged pieces?
Especially as the fight to survive isn’t over yet—and until I no longer have to look over my shoulder, it never will be.
Whispered Promises is a spicy, medium burn, MFMMM why choose romance. It's the second in the Not Yours Duet and not a standalone. For mature readers with darker themes, and parts may be triggering.
This duet finale brings a heavier emotional side to the relationships while keeping the romance alive.
Watching Rosy slowly learn to trust herself and accept that she didn’t have to face everything alone was such an important part of her story, and I was glad to see her gradually lean on the people who loved her.
Bry, Noah, Nate and Max brought plenty of protective boyfriend moments, sweet affection and chemistry! Seeing how much they wanted to make Rosy feel safe and loved made for some lovely moments, and the romance and spice kept me invested without taking away from her healing journey. I just wish we’d had a little more time to see each man’s individual personality shine through.
The found-family dynamic was still a highlight, and I appreciated seeing Rosy slowly find happiness again despite everything she’d endured. I would have loved more of her friendship with Steph, too, but overall, this was an emotional continuation with plenty of romance, tenderness and growth.
A lovely finale for these characters!

A sincere thank you to Issy Eva and Happily Booked PR for the ARC! 🥰📚
I’m so grateful for the early read. As always, all thoughts and opinions are completely my own. ✨
Thank you to Happily Booked PR for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for a honest review.
Rosy has dealt with a lot in a short span on time. Personally, she really made the book for me. There was an element of repetition for her, where it wasn’t just the emotions bubbling up (which is more than understandable) but specific thoughts constantly appearing. But moving past that, the way we see her manage her trauma and try to live her life is incredibly admirable. I liked that despite her negative thoughts, she did allow herself to lean on her partners for support - more and more as the story progressed. I wished we could have seen more of her friendship with Steph and that level of support but I was glad to see what we did. The MMCs - Bry, Noah, Nate and Max - all felt rather samey-same here. Before, I felt I could distinguish them far more than I could here. I totally understand that they’re all in the same situation, all struggling with the woman they love being taken and the aftermath of it, but I needed more variation. They all were shocked and angry and emotional, but their personalities just seemed to be buried beneath all of that so I found myself struggling to properly connect with them.
I knew that following the cliffhanger of the first book, the finale of the duet would be hard. There were many difficult moments and a long trigger warnings list so if you do find some things triggering, definitely check the list first. That said, I feel like the plot could have gone further. We see someone kidnapped and abused and then the repercussions of that trauma. And yet, it felt rather as though we just kept going round in circles. Thing happens, triggers traumatic response, MMCs get emotional over wanting to help, FMC settles… and then the cycle repeats. I just found myself wanting so much more - more grittiness, less tiptoeing and repetition. Character wise, we don’t really meet anyone new; it’s all very much the same faces, bar a few. I do think we should have seen a lot more of Steph - her best friend has gone through a lot and yet we see her so fleetingly. The new characters didn’t feel like they added much for me, instead losing my focus when we would switch to POVs that seemed unimportant to the story. Perhaps their purpose is to hint to a wider universe but I just felt like it was taking away from this story. The romance and spice were good, holding my attention. I do think it felt blander than what we had in the first book which feels crazy to say considering there is more romance and certainly a lot more spice here. I would have thought the post-trauma bonding would really enhance the relationships and instead, I felt rather bereft. The ending wasn’t too bad, but did feel like a relief when it ended. Again, it was in a completely random POV which I can see being a teaser for future books, but just felt wrong to me. I wanted this story rounded off and instead, it feels too open a conclusion for me. This is more of a 2.5 overall rating for me, but I’ll round it up.
Overall, Darkened Promises is a book I had hoped would wow me but sadly fell short.
⭐⭐⭐/5
Thank you again to Happily Booked PR for an advanced copy of this book.
When reading Whispered Promises, it felt like a long setup for this one. After reading Darkened Promises though, I don’t really feel like a lot happened in the story…
Whispered Promises ends on a cliffhanger and Rosy gets kidnapped. Her savior occurs pretty early in the book, which is followed by Rosy working through the trauma it caused and the boys trying their best to provide whatever Rosy needs. Great for her, don’t get me wrong, but it didn’t do a lot for the plot. There were a few chapters from the villain’s POV, but they weren’t enough to really keep me invested in the story. I love that the four men do everything they can to reassure Rosie that she’s safe and that they’re all communicating so openly - I wish everyone would find a relationship like that. In a book though, it got a little boring that there was hardly a single argument in the whole story. The finale also was a bit underwhelming, as everything was resolved quite quickly.
Just like with the first book, I love that this is a why choose/reverse harem where the spice does not take over the plot.
Also, and I can’t emphasize this enough… I fucking love Max.
(I received this book as an ARC and I am leaving this review voluntarily.)
Darkened Promises picks up the thread left dangling at the end of Whispered Promises and wastes no time plunging its heroine into the kind of darkness that makes the first book’s gentler moments feel almost painfully distant.
Rosy had only just begun to believe she might finally belong somewhere, surrounded by four men who each offered her something she had spent a lifetime without, steady protection, quiet understanding, practical care, and the simple gift of laughter.
But that fragile happiness is ripped away with brutal efficiency, and the story that follows is one of survival under conditions that test every soft place she has left…..
What struck me most was how completely the tone shifts without ever losing the emotional core that made the characters matter in the first place.
Brynn/Noah/Nate/Max remain recognisably themselves, all growly, attentive, baking obsessed, and fiercely devoted, but their devotion is now filtered through fear, rage, and the helpless knowledge that they cannot reach her. Watching them scramble against forces they cannot yet fully see gives the romance a sharper, more desperate edge. The spice is still present, still open door and group oriented when the story allows it. It shows them how easily everything can be taken.
The physical and emotional cost Rosy pays is written with a rawness that refuses to look away. Bruises and broken pieces are not just metaphors here, and the question the book keeps asking…. will she recognise herself if she makes it out, and will they still want what remains?!
There is no easy comfort offered. Hope exists, but it is hard fought and constantly under threat, and the sense that the danger has not finished with any of them lingers long after the final page.
The found family warmth that first drew me in is still there, but it has been tempered by fire.
Darkened Promises is the darker half of the duet that was promised, and it delivers on that darkness without sacrificing the heart that made the first book worth reading.
It is not a comfortable ride, but it is an affecting one, and it left me caring more about whether Rosy and her men can rebuild something whole than I expected.
This was an emotional rollercoaster, and I have a feeling this one could really put your heart through the wringer! 🥹❤️
The thought of finally finding people who want you, love you and genuinely want to be part of your life, only to have it all ripped away, is heartbreaking. I really feel for the heroine in this one. Just when she seems to be getting close to the happiness she deserves, everything takes a cruel turn, leaving her fighting for her life and struggling to hold on to hope.
And then there are the four men! 😍 Growly, overprotective behaviour, sweet smiles, delicious pastries and addictive kisses? I can definitely see the appeal! I love the idea of her finally finding people who make her feel wanted and cherished, especially after experiencing so much disappointment from others.
But what really gets me is the emotional side of the story. It’s not just about surviving what has happened to her, but also about finding herself again afterwards. I imagine there are some heartbreaking moments as she struggles with the thought of whether these men will still love her when she feels broken and damaged. That fear of not feeling worthy of love after going through something traumatic is such an emotional theme.
I’m also really curious to see how the relationships develop after everything that’s happened and whether the love and support surrounding her will be enough to help her through what comes next. With the fight for survival still far from over, it sounds like there’s plenty of tension, angst and emotion ahead.
Just a little heads-up, though: this is the second book in the Not Yours Duet, so it’s definitely one to read in order rather than jumping straight in. It also comes with darker themes that may be difficult for some readers.
This sounds like a seriously emotional, spicy read with plenty of angst, intense relationships and four men who want to be there for their girl. I’m expecting heartbreak, protective heroes and hopefully some moments that remind us that even after the darkest times, love and happiness can still be possible. 🖤📖🔥
We pick up right where we're left off in Whispered Promises and wow, this second half was definitely a completely different vibe than the first book. A lot more intense, suspense, trauma filled, healing, more suspense. Rosy goes through a lot. From being taken, to the things she endured while being held captive and than afterwords. We see her trying to find a new normal yet still obviously very traumatized and unsure how to move forward..... All while still having to be on guard due to her captor still lurking around. Add in her boyfriends, Bry, Max, Nate, and Noah who are all also struggling with what happened as well as past truamas resurfacing for them as well. Each of these characters go through a lot and having to face their past to move forward.
But seriously the suspense aspect had me not wanting to put this book down. There were a few surprise pov chapters I didn't expect and WOW! especially the very last chapter after the epilogue! 😳👀 I need to know more!!! The ending did wrap up fairly quickly considering everything that happened, but it was a happy ending.... a very happy ending 😏🥵
Thank you so much Issy Eva and happilybookedpr for allowing me to arc read for yall. 🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻
Darkened Promises by Issy Iva was an emotional roller coaster from beginning to end! This sequel delivers plenty of angst, romance, suspense, and character development that kept me invested in the story. Rosy’s journey was filled with challenges, but watching her grow stronger and find her way through the darkness was one of my favorite parts. The chemistry between Rosy and the men is fantastic, with each relationship bringing something different to the story. I loved the emotional connections, the protective moments, and the way the characters continued to grow together. The darker elements added tension and made the story even more gripping. I did find myself wanting more time with these characters because I wasn’t ready to let them go! Overall, Darkened Promises is a compelling continuation that will keep romance lovers turning the pages.
I received an ARC copy from Happily Booked PR. Thank you for giving me the chance to read this novel and share my honest review of the novel
This second part was truly unique and moving. We see Rosy living and coping with a real trauma. What I liked most about this book is how it allows you to understand and empathize with Rosy's experience with trauma. Personally, I found it to be realistic. There are moments of denial, apathy, sadness, and guilt, as well as moments of joy and courage. And the most important thing for me is the therapeutic journey that Rosy goes through. It was also interesting to see how the four guys dealt with the trauma differently. Even though they didn't experience it directly like Rosy did, it still affected them. It was a really particular story to read. I've never read a Why Choose like this before!
This is the finale of the duet. The first book ended with a cliffhanger. I was prepared for this to be very emotional. I just didn’t realize how emotional and stressful the trauma was going to read. She is trying to navigate the new realty of her life. While her boyfriends are having to also cope with what happened to her and their collective pasts. They need to heal to move forward. And the person who kidnapped her is still out there. There is a lot of suspense and healing. The ending is worth it and I loved the epilogue and following. This was an incredible ending to the duet. Thank you to Happily Booked PR and the author for my ARC of this book.
This book carrys on from the cliffhanger ending of book 1 and we find out all the information we do desperately needed I was hooked from the moment I opened this book up until the end The pace of this book was really good and was kept engaged all the time
Please check your triggers as this book is alot darker than the first book in the Duet
All the male characters were very well written and I loved how they took care of her in their own individual way and together they United. I did go through an emotional rollercoaster while reading this book and sobbed in places
I loved this duet so much and I can't wait for more from this author.
This book was a good read that picked up where the cliffhanger left off and gave the details the reader was looking for. There were some incredibly sensitive topics covered in this book and I think the author did a wonderful job in how she handled the writing of these issues. I think the characters were very well written as well. I received an advance copy of this book at no charge. This is a voluntary review.
I love how this book starts straight after the first one. Jumps straight in and the pace is much quicker. I love how the tone is so different to the first. I didn’t want to put it down. The boys love for her was so warm and made my heart ache at times. The ending was wow! I’m very intrigued by the final chapter. I need to know more!!!
Darkened Promises by Issy Eva is the final book in the Not Yours Duet, and after the cliffhanger ending of the first installment, I knew this one would be significantly darker. Be sure to check the trigger warnings before diving in because this story covers some very difficult and emotional topics. Rosy had already endured so much, so watching her face even more trauma was heartbreaking. While the events felt realistic, it didn't make them any easier to read. One aspect I particularly enjoyed was the secret society element. It added an intriguing layer to the story, although I found myself wanting to learn much more about it. It left me wondering whether the author plans to explore that world further in future books. My biggest struggle with the story was the healing journey. At times, it felt repetitive, as though the characters were stuck in a cycle. I was frustrated that Rosy never went to the hospital or had evidence collected after her assault. While I understand that trauma affects decision-making, I felt that Bry, Noah, Nate, and Max should have stepped in to help rather than trying to move past what had happened. Their reactions often seemed to fuel Rosy's self-doubt and overthinking, creating a pattern that repeated throughout the book. Thankfully, once therapy was introduced, I felt the story began to move forward in a more meaningful way. I appreciated seeing Rosy gradually lean on the others for support and improve her communication, both individually and as a group. I also appreciated that, while there was some spice (and it's a why choose), it never overshadowed the plot. The character relationships remained the focus, which made the emotional aspects of the story more impactful. One relationship I wish had been explored further was Rosy's friendship with Steph. Throughout the duet, their dynamic felt inconsistent. At times they seemed like little more than roommates, while at others they were portrayed as close friends. I struggled to determine where their relationship truly stood. Another issue for me was the frequent POV shifts. I typically enjoy multiple perspectives, but the rapid transitions and inclusion of characters we barely knew occasionally felt overwhelming. However, I suspect these perspectives may have been laying the groundwork for a larger interconnected world, which could be explored in future stories. The ending left me feeling both relieved and slightly underwhelmed. After such an intense and emotional journey, it felt a bit anticlimactic, though it still provided the closure I was hoping for. Overall, Darkened Promises is an intense, emotional read filled with drama, heartbreak, healing, and hope. Despite the heavy themes, it ultimately delivers an important reminder that even after experiencing profound trauma, it is still possible to find love, happiness, and a life worth living
Thank you to the author Izzy Eva for giving me the opportunity to Arc read this book. This book is the second part of the duet too Whispered Promises. I loved to the first book and I thought I couldn’t love the second one more I was wrong
I could read 10 books about these characters and I would love every second of it. I’m sad that the duet is over. I really enjoyed this book’s darker twist it was great the way that Izzy wrote the trauma of Rosy the female main character she is so strong this character even if she is flawed and I loved how the healing journey was not linear it was up and down and messy and it made it so very realistic. She has always had flawed realistic characters with complicated back stories and traumas so it was amazing to see how she wrote such a dark trauma the slight bit of mystery at the end of this book killed me and I wanted to know more but it was well written. I love all the male main characters especially in seeing how they took care of her and helped her patiently through her trauma and that they never stopped loving her. I think it is incredible and unique that every one of the male main characters has their own personality as well. One of the male main characters Nate he is a protective grumpy bear. then you’ve got Max another male main character who is the complete opposite a sunshine teddy bear.then you’ve got Noah who enjoys taking care of the female main character and he is kind and emotionally mature and patient so he’s amazing. then last, but certainly not least there is Bry he’s my favourite he’s so caring kind awkward slightly and he’s just so loveable. He cooks for her he takes care of her and he takes into account her needs all the time. They all do but he especially does out of all the four male main characters. I hated the villain in this story, but they were interestingly written in a way that hooked me even if it disgusted me by the way they thought the villain, it was really realistic in its evilness This is one of my all-time favourite why choose books I have ever read I’m sad it’s over now and I really enjoyed the steamy part they were spicy but incredible.
I absolutely flew through Darkened Promises, for me, the real heart of this story was the relationships. While Rosy's journey is understandably at the centre of everything following her kidnapping, it was the men around her who completely stole the show.
What I loved most was how distinct each of the MMCs felt, which continued from Book 1. They all brought something different to the table, with their own vulnerabilities, strengths and personalities, yet together they created such a solid support system for Rosy. I particularly appreciated how realistically the author portrayed their struggle to navigate her trauma. They wanted to protect her, comfort her and show her how much she meant to them, whilst constantly worrying about overstepping boundaries or causing further harm. Those moments felt genuine and carried a lot of emotional weight.
That said, I did find myself wishing the overall plot moved forward a little more. At times it felt as though the story was circling the same ground rather than progressing, and by the end I was left with quite a few questions, hence not being a 5 star review. The ending in particular had me wondering whether it was setting up future books. I don't feel we got nearly enough information about the organisation Peter was involved with, and I'm still scratching my head over the woman in the lycra jester-style suit!
But honestly? Any lingering confusion was almost completely overshadowed by Chapter 70. Dear God that was hot lol. I was giggling, kicking my feet and outright squealing with delight. Rosy finally had me cheering so hard that I had to put the book down for a moment and just enjoy the chaos of it all. Absolutely worth the wait.
And as for choosing a favourite among the boys next door? Not happening. Every time I thought I'd found the one, another would come along and steal the spotlight. I suspect that's entirely the point... because really, why choose?
A thoroughly enjoyable read packed with heart, healing and characters I couldn't help but root for.
Thank you to the author and HappilyBooked PR for the ARC - my review is left willingly and represents my own views.
Darkened Promises by Issy Eva is the continuation of Whispered Promises, and this is definitely a story where you need to read both books to get the full experience.
Please check the trigger warnings before reading. This book deals with some heavy subject matter, including on-page sexual assault by the main antagonist.
Following the events at the end of the first book, Rosy has been kidnapped, and this story opens with the terrifying reality of what happens to her while Max, Nate, Noah, and Bry desperately search for her. Once she is found, the focus shifts to the aftermath and how all of them navigate what happened. Rosy is left struggling with fear and trying to process her trauma, especially knowing that the person responsible is still out there.
I appreciated that the story explored not only Rosy’s recovery but also how the experience affected her relationships with the men in her life. As she spends time reconnecting with each of them, their relationships continue to develop and solidify. There is a lot to work through, both individually and together, and the emotional weight of those moments is a big part of this story.
While I enjoyed the continuation, some of the darker themes were difficult to read, and the pacing felt a little slow in places. That said, the spice absolutely delivered! 🔥
Overall, this was an emotional and intense continuation of Rosy’s story. It’s not an easy read given the subject matter, but it carries the characters and their relationships forward in meaningful ways. Just make sure you read Whispered Promises first, because these two books really belong together.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Darkened Promises was definitely a different vibe than Whispered Promises (Book 1). I loved the first book and really enjoyed getting to know the characters and watching their love stories bloom. This book, however, was much, much darker.
I still loved the FMC and was really invested in her journey as she found love, experienced intense trauma, and struggled to find her way back to herself and her men. She is so easy to like, and it was heartbreaking to watch her go through such intense pain and fear throughout this book.
The MMCs were all incredible in the way they helped her through the aftermath and supported her recovery. I adored them all in book one, and I continue to love them after reading this one.
I will say that this is not a light, fun love story. It's hard to read at times, and through almost the entire book, you're immersed in the pain and fear of not only the FMC but also the men who love her and are wrestling with their own guilt. The book was very well written, and the storyline was engaging enough that I kept reading, even when things were difficult and unpleasant.
Somehow, the spice in this book felt not just hot but also healing for the characters. Writing this kind of trauma in a way that keeps readers immersed in the story is hard to do well, and I think Issy Eva did a great job.
While this isn't a book I'll want to read over and over again, I'm glad I read it and got to continue the story of Rosy, Bry, Nate, Noah, and Max. It was a heavy, emotional journey, but one I'm glad I experienced with these characters.
📚Book Review📚 ⭐️Darkened Promises⭐️ 📖Not yours duet 👉Issy Eva 🗓️Release Date: 22nd October Well this was different to what I expected. The first book was such a comfort read with a slight underlying feeling of something not being right in the background, it ended on a darker note, but you expected it. This one opens where we left off from the first book, and it is a lot darker than book one. There are plenty of twists and turns and it is quite unhinged. (PLEASE CHECK TRIGGER WARNINGS) But it is also centered a lot around Rosy trying to heal from her trauma, Unfortunately with the threat still active this is not linear. It was interesting because everyone deals with trauma in different ways, and we have 4 guys and Rosy all trying to heal and heal each other in their own ways. Did I agree with the way everything went down - because Mum me was like Noo - But female me understands that everyone deals with trauma differently. Once again these men all had distinct personalities, so there was no confusion on page with who you were dealing with. Although I do feel like this was more noticeable in book 1. Some areas felt a bit repetitive, and I would’ve expected to see more of her best friend in this story. Although this was a darker story than whispered promises it was still good. It was kind of fast and slow at the same time (not sure how to explain what I mean here) but an overall good, easy read. Darker than I was expecting, but mainly because book 1 was such a nice easy read. The ending of this duet leaves the opportunity for more books I am assuming following different characters in the future, which leaves me to question, will it carry on with Rosy and her guys, or will they just make an appearance or will it be totally new characters will we be seeing more of the someone who made an appearance at the end of this book ? ALl in all a really good duet, and I am interested to see what Issy Eva brings in the future. Thank you for the opportunity to read and review this book.
Please read trigger and content warnings as contains dark themes and dark scenarios.
The is the second book in the duet and the book followed along in the same style as the first.
Much like the first I was thoroughly engrossed in this book, the story kept me glued to the pages.
The story continues from the cliffhanger of book 1 and my heart absolutely went out to Rosy and the situation she was in. I was hoping she would be able to get herself out however the MMCs, who love and adore, knew something was up and they kept looking but she’s definitely came back with some dark thoughts and higher anxiety levels.
This story covers trauma for all the MCs as well as healing and bonding and what this looks like. Each MMC offers Rosy a different way to handle her healing process from kindness and guidance, to understanding and control. By helping to heal her, they are also healing themselves of their own past traumas in the process.
You just knew something was going to happen again as that’s they way the story was leading but you were hoping it wouldn’t be catastrophic.
I do love how Rosy’s confidence starts to grow again and while she went through something very traumatic, she’s remained kind and is still conscientious of others and their feelings including animals.
But let me tell you, I was not expecting the twist that came and all I can is I hope it’s the next series because I am very intrigued to find out more.
I thought the first book was emotionally heavy, but after that cliffhanger, I should have known book two would be heavier still! In this story Rosy, our MFC, goes through some traumatic experiences when the story picks up straight after the end of book one. But the whole thing isn’t just traumatic for Rosy, it’s also traumatic for Nate, Max, Noah, and Bryson too. I liked how the book went into the trauma on both sides, what Rosy went through is horrific (check your TWs before reading), but on the opposite side for her men so is losing someone in such a way. The healing journey in this story was balanced the same way too and it was lovely to read how they healed each other, and through the healing, how their relationship progressed. The emotion was so deep in this story, we see Rosy spiral time and again as she works so hard to push through the fear and anxiety to do the simple things that were so easy before “him”. Her men are there to support her at every step, the caring, nurturing, checking in, and Nate’s stubbornness provide for some needed beautiful moments in the book, and it’s so good to see finally that they are all, all in. It was such a hard fought for happy ending, and a spicy one at that! I loved the twist that was the final chapter, it wasn’t necessary to the timeline of the story, but I enjoyed the perspective and what I am hoping is the set up for the next duet.
This is Book 2 in the Not Yours duet, and wow, once again, I was pleasantly surprised and literally devoured the book.
I really loved the story of Darkened Promises and didn’t expect so many suspense and thriller elements, which made reading it incredibly exciting. Especially at the beginning, the book starts off very dark, something I hadn’t anticipated at all. It also comes with a few secrets, which were equally thrilling.
The middle part was definitely very emotional and felt more like the vibe of Book 1. Once again, the characters really moved me, and I really enjoyed the different POVs. There was also more spice in this book, and it was really good!!! Despite the many main characters, the author still managed to give them depth and showcase their personalities so beautifully. I also really liked Rosy, even though she acted a bit naively at times.
I really like the author’s writing style because it’s just so enjoyable to read and easy to follow. Compared to the middle section, the ending was very fast-paced and exciting - the transition felt almost a little too quick to me.
Darkened Promise pleasantly surprised me, and I really liked Book 2 as well! I highly recommend the Not Yours Duet and can’t wait to read more from this author. I think the combination of a romance, suspense, emotional depth, and spice is simply brilliant!
Thank you to Issy Eva and Happily Booked PR again for giving me the opportunity to read this ARC and trusting me with this duet. I loved both books so much, I didn't want to leave it. I'm also very confused and intrigued with where this ending leaves us. What's going to happen? I really want to know now!
I'm very happy that the little cat drawings before each chapter continued over to this book. They were a very cute and welcome distraction from how dark some of the content was. I was having chills at how horrific the antagonist was. I definitely have to advise everyone to read the trigger warnings as book 2 was so much darker and more intense than book 1. Poor Rosy, I wanted to hug her and keep her safe the entire time. She's so sweet and went through so much. I do love how each of the guys reacted and handled what was happening. It made me fall in love with them all over again.
After finishing Whispered Promises, I couldn't wait to read this one. I found myself flying through it way faster than I did the first one. The individual spicy scenes as well as the paired/group scenes with the MMC's were amazing and so hot! And Nate in some of those? 😍 Yes, please!
I am left in awe at how good this duet was, one of the best Why Choose stories that I've read. I highly recommend, and again please check your trigger warnings!
We pick up almost exactly where book one left off, so I’d highly recommend reading that first! Thank you for allowing me to ARC both these books!
And what a way to start… Poor Rosy! My heart absolutely aches for her. Our FMC just can’t catch a break as she struggles to deal with the trauma and aftermath of everything she went through in book one.
The MMCs do everything they can to support her and help her heal. A trip to the animal rescue offers a little hope of normality, but of course, things don’t go quite as planned…
Just when things start looking up, not only for Rosy but for everyone involved, we’re thrown another curveball. And honestly? I did NOT see that coming! All I can say is… poor Rosy AGAIN!
This book was so different from what I expected going into book two, and I absolutely loved every minute of it. The addition of new POVs was such an interesting touch, adding even more depth to the story and making everything that much more compelling.
And that ENDING?! EPIC! I need more. If this doesn’t lead to an expanded world beyond this beautiful duology, I genuinely might cry!
A truly beautiful duology that took me on a rollercoaster of emotions. I highly recommend picking up both books - you won’t regret it!
I was excited to dive back into this world, and I really enjoyed the darker, more suspenseful twist this book takes right from the opening pages. Rosy is such a brilliantly strong character, her healing journey is written well —it is up and down, messy, and raw as she tries to process her trauma.
The four male characters (Nate, Noah, Max and Bry) are boyfriend perfection. The guys all rally around her with endless patience, working through their own guilt while helping her piece herself back together. The spice throughout the book is steamy.
That said, I did find myself wishing the overall plot moved forward a lot quicker. At times, the story felt like it was circling the same ground rather than progressing, and by the end, I was left with quite a few unanswered questions about the villians organisation.... maybe another story from this same world?
What To Expect: 🌼Why Choose/MFMMM 🖤Medium burn 🌼Neighbours to lovers 🖤Multi POV 🌼Rescue animals 🖤Found family 🌼Anxiety Rep 🖤Darker themes including stalking and grief 🌼No pregnancy 🖤No bullying inside the harem 🌼Hurt/Comfort 🖤Golden Retriever MMC 🌼Introverted FMC 🖤Cinnamon Roll MMC 🌼Caretaker MMC 🖤Grumpy MMC
When an author writes an antagonist as downright disgusting and infuriating as this one, you have to know they've met some true villains in their lives. The way the antagonists chapters were written had me feeling ill at times. Issy probably wished she had a power washer on hand after writing them so she could jet the ick off 😅
This is forever going to go down in history as one of my all time favorite duets in ANY genre I regularly read. I loved the why choose trope here, and appreciated that every one of the men, and of course Rosy, were fleshed out so well. None of them blurred into the background or felt like they didn't rightfully belong there. It was also nice for smexy times that we got a variety of experiences 😉 your girl does love a good mix even in why choose. And although I'm a greedy h*e, I understand that the story didn't require a inordinate amount of spice to be incredibly enjoyable and compelling.
The epilogue has my mind positively REELING, girl what the hell do you mean you're going to dangle this ominous person and situation in front of us and walk away? 🤣
I received an advance copy of this book at no charge. This is my honest, voluntary review.
This half of the duet is much darker than the first, but no less enthralling. While the first book gives you warm, giggly feelings with some relationship drama, this book packs an action-packed, suspenseful punch.
Issy does a tremendous job with handling some tricky situations, including therapy, trauma, self-worth, etc. She treats each character with such care and realism. It truly feels like you’re leaving this world behind and entering Rosy and the guys’ perspectives.
Every time I think I have a favorite MMC, the others remind me why I love them too. They’re not perfect, but they love Rosy amid all her trauma and quirks. Max’s silly dialogue cracks me up every time though. Even in a spicy scene, he’ll say something slightly unhinged that just tickles me 😂
The last several chapters are EVERYTHING. 🥵🔥 Worth every tense moment.
Finally, I did not see that last chapter coming and I’ve gotta say, I’m intrigued! Issy’s debut duet came out with a bang and I can’t wait to see what she does next.
Finally, back in with book two, and it starts out exactly as you'd expect. Max is saying space while Nate is dying to get to Rosy.
I just want to say, if you've ever wanted to know what the villain was thinking in a story, this one delivers it. It makes you want to scrub your skin raw, and you're not even living the situation. So, be careful what you wish for because it's absolutely handed to you in this one.
The majority of this is healing and recovery, even with the threat still hanging over Rosy's head. I love that all her guys are doing their best. This is written so well that you feel like you're in it. From Rosy's POV to all of the guys, and I'm sure many have experienced this. From the guilt, heartbreak, not feeling deserving, all of it is fully witnessed.
That ending, though. Who is this person that has randomly appeared because now I'm desperately wanting more information?
"The world’s no longer safe. It’s full of predators. You just don’t know who they are beneath their disguise of humanity.
"You shrinking or minimising your needs isn’t going to make for a successful relationship. Communicating will help build that.”
Oh my god. What a way to start a new month! This book left me completely speechless I did not see any of the twists coming. While Peter was set up to be the horrible boss, the actual execution and reveals blew me away.
I read this in one sitting and couldn't put it down! It was such an easy read, without any big, massive blocks of text to get bogged down in, which made it so easy to stay completely focused.
The cliffhanger at the end of book one was 100% worth it. The way all of the MMCs come together to find her, completely throwing caution to the wind and putting their lives on the line with a "she is ours, we are getting her back" attitude, was incredible. And when they finally retrieve her, the level of care and devotion they show her is unmatched, they would literally do anything for her. Plus, as for the spice level? These boys are hungry, and they be eating!
It wraps up the duet so perfectly, and I am officially hooked, I need to read so much more of Issy Eva's work when it's published.
Disclaimer: I received an Advance Reader Copy (ARC) of this book through Happily Booked in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions expressed are entirely my own.
Mic drop on that ending scene between them all! I was wondering when that was going to happen.
I’m sad to be saying bye to these characters. The second book was darker than I thought it was going to be but this is said in a good way. I love a dark romance so the elements of that in this book was a welcomed surprise. It was emotional to read how Rosy’s trauma affected each and every one of them. I felt the most connected to Maxi in this book in terms of the MMC’s, there’s nothing specific to pinpoint that it’s just how I felt when reading.
The first book was an easy 5* for me and with all reviews I keep it completely honest. The reason I gave this book a 3.5 was due to the pacing (for me personally). I felt that from when the boys got Rosy back the first time to the point where she ended up back with Peter it felt really lengthy with not too much happening. I understand a lot needed to happen in that time in terms of recovery and growth but ultimately that’s where the lower rating came from for me.
Peter got what he deserved. Chapter 71! DOES THIS MEAN WE WILL BE GETTING MORE FROM THEIR POV?!

📚 Uhm. What did I like? Meh. Not a lot really. I prefer a book to have some substance or some plot of some sort, but this one fell short for me. The relationships with the guys were already set in book 1, so this book didn’t have a lot of that. I’m not going to deny that having that happen would be traumatic, of course, but it was just too much of the same thing. The entire book was dealing with the trauma in a very repetitive way, and I was bored. I rolled my eyes a lot. I just didn’t particularly care. 🌶️ There was a scene that stood out, however, having her ask for that seemed completely out of character. She’s a soft and boring wallflower, and I just didn’t really believe that she would ask for that. Take it if given, yes. But ask for it, I dunno. Didn’t make sense. ⭐️ There’s no witty banter, and we still have a female who doesn’t betray us, but she’s not around much, and especially after something like that happens, a girl needs her girlfriends. We all process in different ways, I get that, but this just didn’t do it for me. 2⭐️s
