ARC review. I ate this book right up! Jen is one of the queens of spice and this book did not disappoint! Theo is hot AF silver fox and Eleanor was surprisingly naughty and their story was chefs kiss! I do love an academia storyline and a headmaster/teacher?!? Yesssss! Can’t wait for book 2!!

"The Headmaster's Rule" by Jen Morris is a suuuuuper spicy age-gap grumpy sunshine romance that's also extremely forbidden and full of tension, given that Theo (MMC) is Nora's (FMC) boss. Nobody does forbidden like Jen Morris, and I am excited that she's starting this new series!! I was all in on these two from the very first chapter of this book. Theo was SUCH a grump with a reputation that precedes him. His father was the headmaster before him at the prestigious Wetherly Cove private preparatory school, so he has big shoes to fill. Couple that with a scandal that happened with a fundraiser the year prior, and Theo has something to prove this year at school. He never saw Nora coming, and despite trying to keep his feelings in check, she wiggles her way into his heart. Nora softens his harsh edges and sees through his moody facade, bringing out the gentler side of him. I just loved Nora as the FMC. She has such a penchant for wanting to make the world a better place, to help her third graders, to do good for their school. Nora is everything Theo is not, and she slowly disrupts and deconstructs his carefully curated, strict world as they work in forced proximity on a fundraising project together. Nora is creative, bright, dresses with style and color and funkiness, and my *god,* does she have a NAUGHTY side! Theo brings it out in her! The spice in this book is so good, mostly because of the forbidden aspect of the story. Theo's sexy, silver fox vibes really work for Nora (and for me!), and once the two of them give in to their feelings, they cannot stay away from each other. It's more than just the thrill of it, though. Their feelings obviously run deeper than either of them expected. I honestly loved watching them fall in love. I found this book to be well-paced and not too terribly long. I cannot wait for the next book in the series!

Ok… so hot ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥 I was invested from the first page until the last one!

Theo & Nora were so captivating, charming and genuine.
When their feelings start to grow and can’t be denied anymore… 😮‍💨

I caught myself smiling and giddy with their interactions and eager for what’s gonna happen next. I only stopped reading because I had to wake up early the next day. When I got back to it, I was hungry to keep going.

Theo fought himself whenever he started to think about Nora, and I thought that was endearing.
Every wall Theo tried to build between him and Eleanor, she broke them down. Even unintentionally, her presence and energy were like a magnet pulling him in.

Just like she watched him and developed a crush, he started feeling the same but tried to resist.
I could feel the connection and attraction between them oozing out of the pages. That only made the “finally” moment even better.

Theo, of course, realized all the impediments a relationship with Eleanor would bring, specifically for her. He worried for her, what people would say, and that he wouldn’t be enough. All of his doubts were real and expected to happen.

The side characters (also the future MCs) were a delight. They added to the story and left some suggestions of what their book’s gonna be about.

Nora and Theo were working together for the fundraiser, and it was very nice knowing how much thought Nora put into the concept, the activities, and what all of it meant for the students. She really shines as a teacher and that also makes me admire her.

I really enjoyed the school setting! Wetherly Cove Preparatory School already has me hooked and ready for the next books in the series.

I absolutely loved Eleanor and Theo! Their story starts off slow, building the new relationship between boss and employee. As the work days go on, these two start spending more time together while planning the school fundraiser. Little moments, and gestures start to add up and when these two can’t take it anymore, man does it get spicy fast!! I loved seeing strait laced Theo lose control, qnd taking Eleanor all over the school. Eleanor gives up her control to Theo and he dominates her. Eleanor is a beautiful bright light, that makes everyone’s lives brighter, she just needs that encouragement shown back to her,
and Theo is that person. Supporting Eleanor and telling her it’s okay to be who she is with her bright clothes, fun ideas for the children and caring heart. They are perfect together!

This was such a fun, tension-filled romance with exactly the kind of opposites-attract dynamic I love. Eleanor and Theo could not be more different, and that contrast is what makes their chemistry so entertaining.

Eleanor is bright, creative, ambitious, and determined to prove herself at Wetherly Prep. I really liked how passionate she is about her students and her career. She isn’t simply there to become Theo’s love interest—she has her own goals, ideas, and reasons for wanting the fall fundraiser to succeed. Her personality brings warmth and energy into every interaction, especially when she finds herself working closely with the very controlled and intimidating headmaster.

Theo, meanwhile, is all rules, responsibility, and restraint. After the scandal that previously rocked Wetherly, he feels an enormous amount of pressure to protect the school and maintain its reputation. Eleanor is basically his worst nightmare and greatest temptation rolled into one. She challenges his carefully ordered world, and watching his self-control slowly unravel around her is one of the best parts of the story.

The age-gap and boss/employee elements add an extra layer of forbidden tension to their relationship. Theo knows exactly why getting involved with Eleanor is a terrible idea, which naturally makes their attraction even more compelling. I especially enjoyed the push and pull between them—the lingering looks, the restraint, and that constant feeling that eventually something has to give.

What makes the romance work is that Eleanor doesn’t simply soften Theo; she challenges him. And Theo, beneath that stern exterior, has a vulnerability that makes it easy to understand why he clings so tightly to control.

If you enjoy age-gap romance, workplace tension, a grumpy and tightly wound hero, a vibrant heroine who refuses to be intimidated, and plenty of forbidden chemistry, this is definitely one to add to your list.

A charming, swoony romance filled with tension, heart, and a hero whose carefully constructed self-control never stood a chance.

This book was so addicting!! Once I started I couldn’t put it down. I loved Jen’s forbidden on fruit street series so I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this one. Her writing instantly sucks me into the world she creates and I feel like I know the characters. I loved Eleanor and her bright personality. I loved how she brought Theo out of his shell. Theo was so hot!! He was a buttoned up, serious, grumpy headmaster that has his rules in place. He was a whole different person once him and Eleanor get together! The spice was so hot! The sneaking around had me biting my nails. Jen writes forbidden romances so well!!

I'm always excited to begin a new series by Jen Morris, and since I'm a teacher, this series is really appealing to me. Her books are always filled with amazing characters that make me want to keep reading the other books in the series. I get so excited when I start to predict who the next couples in the series will be, and I look forward to reading their love stories too.

Theo and Nora meet when he is the headmaster/principal of the school where she is working as a third grade teacher. As they work together on the fall fundraiser, they start to sneak around, and things get spicy!

I will admit, Jen is fast becoming one of my favourite age-gap authors (and I also love that she's from New Zealand - slowly growing my ANZ author read list!).

The Headmaster's Rule is an amazing story of a forbidden romance between Theo, the grumpy headmaster of Wetherly Prep, and the new grade 3 teacher, Eleanor.

Jen has perfectly captured the tension and the yearning as the two work together on the school's fundraiser event, and it didn't hold back on the chemistry, the emotions (and of course, the spice).

But it wasn't just about the budding relationship between Theo and Eleanor - the storyline of the fundraiser and bettering Wetherly Prep also kept me reading, and I was just as invested with Eleanor's plans for the school as I was in the forbidden relationship.

I was revived, saw the title, and died AGAIN.

THEODORE WRIGHT.

Even the name sounds like a man who owns cuff links, gives instructions in complete sentences, and could ruin my life without ever raising his voice.

Sir, I have several concerns.

None of them are requests for you to stop.

Theo is rigid, stressed, controlling, quick to judge, and accustomed to carrying the entire weight of Wetherly on his own shoulders. The school is not merely his job. It is his responsibility, identity, and the thing he believes he must protect above everything else.

He cannot risk another scandal.

He definitely cannot risk a relationship with one of his teachers.

And he absolutely cannot stop thinking about Eleanor.

Watching this man fight himself every time he noticed her was DELICIOUS.

Theo would construct an emotional wall, reinforce it with professionalism, add barbed wire, post a security guard—and then Eleanor would smile at him, and the entire structure would collapse before lunch.

She doesn’t even have to deliberately challenge every defense he creates. Her presence alone unsettles him. She is warm where he is guarded, spontaneous where he is controlled, and determined to bring joy into a place he has been managing through fear and relentless responsibility.

Every interaction pulls him closer while he mentally recites the employee handbook and begs his attraction to behave.

It does not.

Thank God.

Eleanor—or Nora—is more than the sunshine sent to thaw the grumpy man.

She is intelligent, passionate, and deeply invested in her students. The care she puts into the fundraiser, the activities she develops, and the meaning behind her plans show exactly why she belongs at Wetherly.

She isn’t chasing attention. She wants to create something meaningful for the children she teaches, including support for their mental health.

I loved seeing her shine professionally because it made Theo’s gradual change feel earned. He doesn’t soften simply because he finds her attractive. He begins recognizing that her ideas have value and that protecting the school doesn’t require suffocating every new possibility.

Nora helps him share the weight he has convinced himself he must carry alone.

She also reminds him that Theodore the man still exists beneath Headmaster Wright.

And Theodore the man is HOT.

Clinical diagnosis. No further testing required.

What made their relationship so captivating was the way they genuinely saw one another. Nora sees past Theo’s stern authority and recognizes the exhausted, caring man beneath it. Theo sees how often other people have dismissed Nora and becomes determined to make her feel important, respected, and heard.

Then he calls her “sweetheart.”

SIR.

You cannot deploy “sweetheart” in that tone while wearing a suit and expect the civilian population to remain calm. There are regulations. Probably.

I was smiling, giggling, and kicking my feet through their interactions. The connection between them oozed off the page, and every stolen look added another charge to the tension.

They both develop feelings. Nora recognizes hers first, while Theo tries to treat his attraction like an administrative problem he can solve through avoidance.

He cannot.

This isn’t a budget shortfall, Theodore. You cannot schedule the horny out of your calendar.

The slow build made the “finally” moment so much better. By the time Theo stopped pretending he could resist her, I was hanging over the edge of my Kindle like a woman monitoring a hostage negotiation.

KISS HER.

NO, MORE THAN THAT.

YES, SIR. CONTINUE.

Their physical chemistry absolutely delivered. Three peppers, but those peppers arrived wearing tailored suits, carrying disciplinary forms, and demanding that I address them properly.

The sneaking around added an extra layer of excitement because both of them understood exactly what was at risk. Theo is Nora’s boss, the school is still recovering from a scandal, and any relationship between them could threaten the professional credibility she has worked so hard to establish.

Theo’s hesitation isn’t only about protecting himself. He worries about what people will say about Nora, whether the relationship could damage her career, and whether he can ever be enough for a woman twenty years younger than him.

Those fears felt real. The age gap wasn’t simply listed as a trope and then forgotten the moment everyone removed their clothes. Their different life stages and the power imbalance of their positions genuinely affected the choices they made.

But Nora does not allow Theo to decide on her behalf what risks she is permitted to take.

THANK YOU, MA’AM.

He may be the headmaster, but she is a grown woman capable of choosing which silver fox she wants ruining her concentration.

That said, we need to hold one emergency faculty meeting.

There is a scene where these two become VERY carried away at school while elementary-aged students are nearby.

And listen.

Do I expect stolen kisses in a workplace romance? Yes.

Do I expect office furniture to become involved at some point? Naturally. I understand the genre and support fictional workplace misconduct in controlled conditions.

But these are not college students wandering the halls.

THEY ARE THIRD GRADERS.

Theo and Nora have to stop midway and make sure they are still alone, and I immediately transformed from feral romance reader into the exhausted administrator nobody invited.

SIR, PUT THE TEACHER DOWN.

MA’AM, FIX YOUR DRESS.

THE CHILDREN ARE LEARNING MULTIPLICATION FIFTEEN FEET AWAY.

That moment didn’t align with how seriously Nora wants to be respected as a teacher or how determined Theo is to protect Wetherly from another scandal. The risk felt unnecessarily high, especially when their offices, homes, vehicles, closets, forests, and literally anywhere without elementary-aged witnesses remained available.

Kissing? Yes.

A desperate stolen touch? Fine.

The full extracurricular practical examination?

Please relocate the class.

That single scene aside, I loved their romance. Theo’s doubts, Nora’s determination, their emotional honesty, and the way they helped one another grow made the relationship feel heartfelt beneath all the deliciously forbidden tension.

The setting was also perfect.

Wetherly Cove gave me exactly the Gilmore Girls autumn atmosphere promised: crisp air, changing trees, crunchy leaves, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and a prestigious school in a fictional East Coast town filled with characters I already want to know better.

I could practically smell the coffee and poor decisions.

The side characters added warmth without hijacking Theo and Nora’s story, and several of them were introduced with just enough intrigue to make me suspicious that future books are already being arranged behind my back.

GOOD.

Give them to me.

I am already invested in Wetherly Cove Preparatory School and prepared to inspect every staff member for unresolved romantic tension.

THE HEADMASTER’S RULE had everything I wanted: a forbidden age-gap romance, a grumpy silver fox losing control over his sunshine teacher, fall atmosphere, genuine emotional connection, excellent tension, and a man weaponizing “sweetheart” against an innocent woman.

Was this relationship an HR violation?

Almost certainly.

Did I care?

Only when the third graders were within hearing distance.

Five stars for Theodore Wright, his tailored suits, his collapsing self-control, and the woman who reminded him that he is more than his title.

I saw the cover. I died.

I read the book.

I've read all of Jen's books and the age gap Fruit Street series are some of her best. So she is no stranger to forbidden romance with a much older male character. In Headmaster's Rule Theo is 47 and Eleanor is 27. He is the Headmaster of a school and she is a 3rd grade teacher. I enjoyed their dynamic and that she brought out a softer side of him. He's stressed most of the time, rigid, quick to judge and shoot down others ideas and likes to maintain control of situations. Eleanor helps him relax, share the load of the project they are working on, and helps him see that he's more than just his job and title. Loved all of that. Loved how he wanted to make her feel important and seen when others have dismissed her in the past. I'm a sucker for the use of “sweetheart”, and he's an expert at tossing that in.
I did have a moment I was a bit uneasy about. I expect in a workplace romance for there to be stolen moments. I even expect for there to be the possibility of desk action anytime there is an office setting. What I'm not crazy about is there being underage students, during school hours, and the characters having sex where they could be seen or heard by one of them. Now if this was a college, I wouldn't necessarily think twice as those are adults but this school has elementary aged children and I find it questionable for the Headmaster and their teacher to be taking that risk. The premise of Eleanor being a teacher who is desperately wanting her colleagues to respect her. Working on this amazing project to help her students mental health, yet engaging in an act, very obviously where young students are close by and could accidentally see or hear, just doesn't align. Now I understand the thought process the author probably took, which was that these 2 characters are so head over heels for each other that they just can not keep their hands to themselves for another moment. But I think some restraint on the characters part was needed there. Kisses, yes. Stolen touches, go for it. Hiking up her dress and going for it right there, having to double check they are still alone half way through the act….um, maybe let's take a moment and proceed elsewhere.
That one single scene aside, this is a great fall read with the setting in September going through Thanksgiving. The descriptions of the trees, the school, crunching of the leaves, halloween night, are perfect. The vibes were definitely there and fall being my favorite season, I'm here for it. The ending was satisfying and I'm really hoping this is going to be another series because there were multiple characters I think would make great stories, so fingers crossed. I received a copy of this book from the author and highly recommend it.

Okay, Theo Wright. I see you, sir.

The Headmaster’s Rule gave me everything I want from an age gap forbidden romance and I absolutely ate this book up. The second you give me an older, grumpy, controlled man in a suit who knows he should stay away but slowly starts losing every ounce of that control, I am DONE. And Theo did not disappoint.

I loved Eleanor from the beginning. She is bright, passionate, determined, and brings this warmth and color into Theo’s carefully controlled world. Their personalities worked so well together because she never felt intimidated by him. She challenged him, pushed his buttons, and slowly worked her way underneath all those walls he had built around himself.

And THEO. Twenty year age gap. Headmaster. Boss. Silver fox. Grumpy. Possessive. Yes, sir energy. This man was basically created from a checklist of things I have absolutely no business loving this much.

The forbidden aspect made their chemistry even better because you could feel how badly Theo was trying to convince himself that getting involved with Eleanor was a terrible idea. Meanwhile, I was sitting there thinking, sir, please stop pretending you have any chance of resisting this woman. The tension, the sneaking around, the stolen moments, and that constant feeling that they really should not be doing this made it impossible for me to put down.

But what really made me love this story was that underneath all the spice and forbidden tension, there was actually so much heart. Theo and Eleanor balanced each other beautifully. She brought life back into places he had kept carefully guarded, and watching him slowly realize that loving her might be worth risking the control he holds onto so tightly was everything.

The fall small town atmosphere was another huge win for me. It had those cozy back to school autumn vibes mixed with a romance that was anything but innocent. Give me sweaters, school fundraisers, crisp fall energy, and a headmaster secretly losing his mind over the new teacher and apparently I am a very happy woman.

Jen Morris completely got me with this one. I came for the forbidden age gap romance and the silver fox in a suit, but I stayed because I genuinely fell in love with Theo and Eleanor together.

If you love age gaps, boss and employee, grumpy sunshine, forbidden relationships, sneaking around, an older man desperately trying to maintain control, and a heroine who makes him completely forget why he had rules in the first place, READ THIS BOOK.

The start of a new age-gap romance series set at the prestigious Wetherby Prep. We go straight to the top of the school when we meet Headmaster Wright, stuffy, uptight, grumpy, rule following Theodore, who's careful, orderly world is completely shaken up by the arrival of new teacher Eleanor, she exudes sunshine and rainbows - from crawling about the floor on an obstacle course with her class, to her bright and fun outfits, she is the opposite of everything Theo has convinced himself he needs to be to lead the school, but with her child-centred strategies and gentle pushing back, he soon realises she is everything he never knew he needed. With a 20 year age gap and the boss/employee relationship to navigate, as well as Theo's determination to do what's right for the school at all costs, its a fight for Nora to get Theo to see her as more than just a naiive ball of sunshine, but its one she is determined to see through.
Key to this stories success is the characters, also new to the school are Paige - the guidance counsellor and Juliana, who just so happens to be Theo's grown up daughter, home to teach English Lit! They are similar ages to Nora and all are in agreement that an older man is HOT! We also meet deputy head Danny who is so sweet and supportive, and a few others like builder/dad Jake who it seems may feature in Paige's story.
Of course the story is full of spice, when these characters give in to the chemistry things get seriously hot, the art room and the copy room being particular highlights!This is something I always think the author writes well.
The book is also full of lots of other emotion, my eyes welled up a number of times, I also felt joy and humour throughout.
The story clips along at a rapid pace, I just couldn't put it down and finished it over the course of one afternoon.
I wasn't sure how I would feel about the setting, but this small town quickly showed its beauty and I think there's going to be a lot of exciting stories to come from here.
I can't wait to continue this series and can only say good things about this new world. Another book that absolutely smashed it out the park!

Eleanor is offered a job at a prep school on Long Island and is excited for the change of scenery. She immediately signs up to help with that year’s fundraiser, not realizing she’ll be working with the grumpy headmaster, Theo, and that no one else will be helping. She quickly learns that running the fundraiser with Theo will be harder than she anticipated, especially when he keeps shutting down her ideas. Theo has a lot riding on this year’s fundraiser after the previous year’s was mired in scandal, and the board is breathing down his neck. Eleanor is his complete antithesis, but eventually he warms to her and her ideas. He also starts noticing her in ways a headmaster definitely shouldn’t notice a teacher in his employ who is 20 years his junior. The more they work together, the harder it becomes to maintain their boundaries until they finally give in to their growing attraction. But what happens when the board finds out about their inappropriate relationship that goes against the rules?

I absolutely loved this book, and it has me so excited for the rest of the series. Theo was a complete grump who held rigidly to the rules and standards of the institution. He wears a three-piece suit every day and is never rumpled. Eleanor loves color and joy and brings that into both her outfits and her teaching. She slowly gets him to come out of his rigid shell, and it doesn’t go unnoticed by the people closest to them. Even Theo’s daughter, who immediately takes Eleanor under her wing as a fellow teacher, was rooting for them. (I love when there is no drama from the kids in an age gap book!) Once Theo and Eleanor get together, he is so sweet with her and is constantly praising her and her ideas.

Theo was also extremely hot. He might have been a repressed 47-year-old man, but once he gives in to his feelings for Eleanor, he cannot keep his hands to himself, and they are doing it in places they DEFINITELY should not lol. He is one hot, sexy silver fox, and the spicy scenes did not disappoint at all.

This was a very solid start to the series, and I think I’m going to enjoy it even more than the Forbidden on Fruit Street series. I also have to say, I much prefer this book cover to that series lol. I can’t wait to see who is next out of the new friend group that formed. I have some ideas…

First book of the new series and we’re already at a great start. Jen grows with her stories, it’s amazing how each time she takes me to this safe place where she brings in so much grace, while writing about life difficulties.

In this book we read the story of Eleonore and Theodore, and their journey to releasing their true selves. The plot is simple : Nora, is a new teacher in a private school and Theo, is its Headmaster. Their relationship develops whiles working together on a fundraising project. Their secret relationship is forbidden cause not only he’s her boss, but also cause he is 20 years older than her. And they cannot be more opposite.

Theo is broody, reserved, follows his own strict rules. He’s a father and a widower, he takes his role and life in general very seriously. He’s hard on people, but harder on himself.
Nora is like a fairy on earth, joyous, colourful, with a passion for teaching. But she has never been taken seriously in her life, particularly by her own family. She lacks trust in her capabilities.

It is during their work, and eventually their relationship, that they realise they are exactly what the other needs. She teaches him joy and grace and he gives her confidence and self-worth. A true beautiful balance.

Cherry on top… the spice is absolutely perfect ! I love the way they explore their sexual fantasies and trust one another to take it safely to the next level. It was so hot… and Theo… dear all mighty …. I sweated… A LOT.

Jen already sets the characters for the other books in the series and I already cannot wait for each of them !

Jen Morris is such an age-gap queen, and I’ve loved her Forbidden on Fruit Street series, so I was so excited to get an ARC of The Headmaster’s Rule. And she did not disappoint.

This one follows Theo, the buttoned-up headmaster of a prestigious school, and Eleanor (Nora), a newly hired teacher who is basically sunshine personified. She’s full of color, life, and personality.

Guys, I really enjoyed this one. I loved the age gap, I loved the push and pull, and the tension was so good. You get all of those we can’t do this forbidden elements that I want from this kind of romance, but what I especially loved was that they never dragged on to the point where I was getting bored or yelling at my book. It was the perfect balance and so well paced.

I also just loved Theo and Nora together. Theo is so rigid and buttoned-up, and then here comes Nora with her yellow flats and barrettes in her hair, ready to completely knock him off his feet. Their personalities are so different, and I loved that juxtaposition between them, but somehow they just fit. Their connection felt natural, the chemistry was there, and watching Theo slowly lose some of that carefully maintained control around her was so much fun.

The pacing worked really well for me, the writing was great, and the spice absolutely delivered. There’s also no over-the-top drama, unnecessary miscommunication, or frustrating conflict thrown in just for the sake of creating angst. It’s simply a really well-developed age-gap, forbidden romance that gives you all the tension and payoff you want from those tropes.

And that ending? Such a satisfying HEA (love a man willing to make a sacrifice). This was another win from Jen Morris for me.

There is something about a grumpy man in a suit who absolutely should NOT be falling for the woman who works for him that gets me every single time 🙈😂 The Headmaster’s Rule delivered exactly the kind of forbidden-romance chaos I was hoping for! 😜

Theo is the stern, serious headmaster of Wetherly Prep, determined to protect the school and keep his life firmly under control. Then along comes Eleanor, the new third-grade teacher who is basically sunshine in human form and seems determined to shake up every one of his carefully constructed rules hehehe☀️📚

The grumpy x sunshine dynamic was definitely a highlight for me. Eleanor brings so much energy and personality to the story, while Theo is all restraint and control, right up until he is not 😏 The age gap and boss/employee dynamic add another layer of forbidden tension, and I loved watching that attraction build.

And the spice? 🔥🔥🔥 Let’s just say Theo’s “yes, sir” energy was understood 😂

I also really enjoyed the autumnal, back-to-school atmosphere. There is something so cosy about the setting, even while Theo and Eleanor are busy making very questionable decisions behind closed doors. The combination of small-town vibes, school drama, romance and spice made this such an entertaining read.

If you love forbidden workplace romance, age gaps, silver foxes, grumpy/sunshine couples and plenty of chemistry, definitely add this one to your TBR! I thoroughly enjoyed it! 😍

Jen’s books are highly problematic for me in the best possible way, because I start reading and I only stop when I finish, and this doesn’t happen because the books are simple, but because the amount of tension she manages to create is absurd, and I can’t rest until I know more and more. What fascinates me most about reading age gap is the negotiation between what you feel and what you are supposed to feel, and this book was amazing in that aspect.
Eleanor is the new third-grade teacher at Wetherly Cove, a traditional school where everything is taken far too seriously, starting with Headmaster Wright. Theo is the headmaster, a legacy he inherited from his father that weighs heavily on him and makes him a serious and rigid man, always concerned with following the rules. Eleanor is a ray of sunshine, caring and empathetic, just as a teacher should be, and it is in this spirit that she presents her ideas to Headmaster Wright.
The way Theo initially rejects everything Eleanor proposes starts to turn my insides upside down, but at the same time, it allows us to see the kind of man he is beyond the authority he projects. And that’s how the magic of the book began for me: realizing that Eleanor’s brightness was exactly what this repressed man needed to shake up his life.
The attraction between them grows with every page, with every interaction between them, in an almost unbearable way that made me turn page after page until the moment they finally gave in. They are incredible together and end up being for each other what a couple should be: they challenge each other to be better. Eleanor’s confidence grows, despite coming from a place where her dreams were ridiculed by her family. And the defenses Theo has built around himself come crashing down. And if I ended up confirming that Theo, free from all those restrictions, would be exactly the passionate man I was hoping for, Eleanor was much more fearless than I expected, and thank God for that.
A legacy can be heavy, duty shapes us, rules can crush us, but there comes a day when we dare to want something for ourselves and, despite the chains holding us back, step a little outside the expected path to love and be happy. That’s what this story is about, and discovering it was absolutely enchanting.

Oh my goodness… I absolutely loved this book and everything about it. From my early childhood I always enjoyed school based stories and was addicted to Malory Towers from Enid Blyton and this just brought back all those memories of books set in and around schools.
I also loved the setting at the coast and the little town with all the quirky named shops and businesses, I thought they were all wonderful.
I thoroughly loved the age-gap trope and enjoyed seeing that Theo was the one who was unsure of the gap and thought that he was too old for Nora!

I thoroughly enjoyed the whole story, the setting was lovely, the school was amazing and all the characters were so likeable and I honestly couldn’t wait to find out more about them.

I absolutely loved Nora right from the very beginning, she was just so enthusiastic and passionate about everything that she did and she just wanted to get along with and help everyone. Oh and I loved all her quirky outfits too, they were just beautiful.

Theo was a bit of a different story… I didn’t warm to him at first and thought that he was just grumpy and set in his ways but gradually I came to love him as well!

I really loved all the will-they-won’t-theys throughout the first half of the book and enjoyed them navigating a relationship and finding out what they wanted from each other, while also both trying to be professional in their jobs.

This was another amazing book from Jen and I absolutely cannot wait to read the rest of the series and find out what all the other teachers and residents of Wetherly are going to get up to….

Okay, Headmaster Wright, just go ahead and be the hottest, dirtiest MMC that Jen Morris has written to date. Given that Morris’ previous release was student/professor, I admit I expected a lot of the same vibes in this forbidden headmaster/teacher romance. But I was very wrong. The Headmaster’s Rule was hot, had a ton of character, and has taken my love for Jen Morris’ forbidden, age gap romances up to a whole new level. There’s just something so delicious about an uptight grump who says the dirtiest things when he falls apart only for the woman he loves.

Theo and Nora had so many layers to them, and I loved seeing them reveal their true selves to each other. Understandably, Theo took some time to thaw, but he felt like he had a lot on the line: a whole school’s reputation to protect, a father’s expectations to live up to, a grown daughter to watch over, employees to nurture and guide. Nora, on the other hand, saw Wetherly Prep as a fresh start, a clean slate away from her past in the city, where she could shine as a teacher. Both of these characters were at such different places in their lives, and not just because of their differences in age. Yet, they were exactly what the other person needed to realize their full potential both personally and professionally.

I really enjoyed Nora and Theo’s romance, at least once Theo could be persuaded to give his own happiness a chance. These two balanced each other so well, with Theo’s experience truly balancing out Nora’s enthusiasm in the classroom. Their dedication to see children succeed transferred well into their dedication to each other. I was really glad to see relatively little drama unfold as Nora and Theo’s big secret became not so secretive at Wetherly Prep. Jen Morris deserves all the love for writing romances with no third act breakup; sometimes, I need a love story that doesn’t make me want to throw the book across the room when the main characters break up for no reason, and I always know that I can get that from Jen.

In The Headmaster’s Rule, Jen Morris gives readers a fantastic start to a new series. I love the school and it’s staff, and I want to see so many of the secondary characters we meet in this book go on and have their own HEA moments. Theo and Nora are grumpy/sunshine personified, but they both had heart and stood strong for their students and their love for each other. I truly loved this pairing, and can’t wait to hopefully see them again as the series continues with other couples.

I’ve read every one of Jen’s books, and I will without a doubt say this is my favorite! It had one of my favorite types of MMC’s - older, grumpy, and uptight. And Theo with Eleanor, who was his perfect opposite, but also exactly who he needed. This one was sweet, hot, and perfect. I’ve been giddy the entire time reading this one. I cannot wait for more.

It was well worth the read, This is the first book by Jen Morris that I read, but she has me intrigued now to try some of her other work.
I really enjoyed this, for me the writing flowed really well, It was a cute romance, but it definitely hit the spot in the spice department as well.
Theo aka headmaster Wright and sweet third grade teacher Eleanor 😍. The way Eleanor makes Theo come to life and realise he has more than his job to live for. The joy she brings to everyone around her after she joins Wetherly prep. You know how they say opposites attract, it seems they do Grumpy and serious headmaster, meets light hearted and cheery Eleanor, and the rest is history. These two characcters are lovable and you can’t help but hope for them to get there HEA.
I’m also looking forward to reading the next books in the series, and following along with the side characters, you can see already which characters will probably get there own story and I am here for it.

Jen Morris is the queen of spicy forbidden age-gap romances, and she did not disappoint with this first book her new series. I was invested from the first page.

Theo and Nora were so perfect for each other. They were captivating, charming and genuine. They were absolutely perfect for each other. I caught myself being so invested in their interactions that I didn’t want to stop reading.

Theo was such a grump, with a reputation for being pristine he feels like he has to uphold. He has the weight of the entire school on his shoulders after a fundraising scandal the year prior. He never saw Nora coming and despite trying to build up walls, and trying to keep his feelings in check, she breaks them down and wiggles her way into his heart. Nora softens his edges and brings out the gentle side of this moody grump.

Nora is the complete opposite of Theo; she just wants to make the world a better place and be a soft place for her third graders to land. She is bright and creative. Nora slowly disrupts Theos careful and strict world as they work on the fundraising event.

The chemistry between these two is unmatched, while these two try to fight the deep pull between the two of them. I honestly loved watching them fall. I can’t wait for the next book in the series!

I’m a big fan of the age gap trope and I’ve read several of Jen Morris’s books so far so when I first heard about this book, I knew it’d be an age gap but I was also interested in the forbidden, work romance plot line.

I liked it, it’s a low drama and low conflict which meant that the focus is on the tension between Nora and Theo. The age gap is significant but I felt like it didn’t play a negative role at all as both characters feel closer in age due to their balance of personalities.

It’s spicy even though it’s more of a slow burn yet there are several scenes that had me thinking that both of them have no control whatsoever over their chemistry, which makes it more of a fun read if you’re focused on the forbidden scenes.

I will mention as a heads up that the main male character has a daughter very close to the main female character’s age as a warning to those readers who might be put off by it. I don’t find it to be an issue in this particular plot line but it might trigger readers who like the age gap but dislike this situation. I liked everything overall and had a good time reading.

The Headmaster’s Rule is book one in a brand new steamy, forbidden series by the incredible New Zealand romance author; Jen Morris.

This novel follows Eleanor a third grade teacher and Theo the headmaster of Weatherly Prep, as they work together to create a meaningful school fundraiser event.
It turns out Eleanor is the only person who volunteers to work on the event with Theo, luckily they end up getting along quite nicely.

This novel was so easy to get lost in, as the relationship between the main characters flowed effortlessly. Theo and Eleanor’s chemistry felt natural and believable, making it easy to become invested in their journey. I loved the heated stares, stolen moments - in perhaps not the best hiding places and the love and kindness they showed one another.

Eleanor is one of my favourite FMC Jen has written so far, I appreciated her confidence in herself, her passion for teaching and also the way she cares for her students (my images include some props I know Eleanor would love).

Overall, this was such a fun and heartwarming romance. The grumpy male lead and sunshine female lead were the perfect match, and I loved watching her bring out a softer, more vulnerable side of him.

A great read for anyone who loves grumpy / sunshine, fall vibes, and steamy on page chemistry.

The queen of age gap romance has done it again!! I swear Jen Morris just knows how to give me ALL the feels. I already love an age gap romance, but add in grumpy sunshine and watching Theo slowly soften for Eleanor and I was hooked. Theo definitely starts out as the grumpy, hard-to-read MMC, but seeing the way Eleanor gets under his skin and slowly brings out a softer side of him was EVERYTHING. I loved watching their relationship develop throughout the book and seeing them both let their guards down and really start to fall for each other.

I also really loved having Julianne’s perspective and getting her side of things as Theo’s daughter. I feel like that added such a fun and important layer to the story because their relationship obviously affects more than just Theo and Eleanor. Watching everything unfold from her perspective made the story feel more complete, and I really enjoyed seeing how she handled everything. There were definitely moments that made my heart hurt, moments that had me smiling, and plenty of swoony moments too. Jen Morris really knows how to give me the angst, chemistry, tension and feels I’m looking for in an age gap romance. I absolutely loved Theo and Eleanor and this was another BIG win for me!

School is in session! And there is the broody, growly, all put together Headmaster Theo Wright who is immediately awed by his newest teacher, Nora (Eleanor), and Nora likewise. Nora is EVERYTHING he is not, wears colourful fun outfits with jewellery and hair clips to match, but she is also what every teacher should be. She challenges the long stuffy traditions he has taken over, his legacy, but when she volunteers for the fund raiser this is her chance to prove that teaching is more than just a job.

But, the appearances for either belie passion and spice that when those are read......well I have never wanted to go back to school until now. Jen writes age gap romance, and age gap is one of my favourite FAVOURTE tropes, (even though I am older than the oldest MC in any of the books I have read) but, they just always hit differently. There is 20 years between these two, but age is merely a number and Nora holds her own and shows Theo this in so many ways. And, who he truly is under the stuffy three piece suit and scowl. (and I am here for a grey tinged beard to run my fingers thru too.....).

This is the first in a new series, and there are a few easter eggs as to whom the next books we focus on, and I cannot wait. If you love age gap, like me, give Jen Morris a go.

As always I am thrilled to have the opportunity to read a Jen Morris book as an ARC. This new setting of weatherly prep seems like it will bring a lot of the similar vibes of fruit st (big city, but small town vibes, and a fun cast of characters) but also has a whole new world of opportunities to explore. Book one features, Theo the headmaster and he is a stickler for the rules, ALL of them but when faced with the blowback from a disastrous school fundraiser the year before and the flurry of a new teacher who seems to go against the "strict" prep school setting he has to make some decisions about how he wants to proceed with the school year and who he wants to be. Eleanor or Nora is a bright former prelaw student who decided she wanted to make a difference in people's lives and pivoted to teaching and is now the third grade teacher at Weatherly. She is every supportive, slightly quirky and smart teacher you could ask for. But she's got a bit of a weakness for the headmaster, especially when he puts on his glasses... If age gap romance, and workplace romance ( with some risque encounters) are your jam be sure to check this out when it releases in early September!

What a sh*&show of last year was, now Theo was beginning a new school year with a board of directors breathing down his neck to make sure the fundraiser goes off without a hitch…he felt like such a failure, letting the school down, letting his father down (previous headmaster)…Theo had no time for distractions.

Eleanor was so excited to start off in the new school, she loved teaching, she loved dressing up for her young students, leaning was fun and that was her goal to install in her young students. From a reading corner, to games, she wanted learning to be fun. She might not have her families support but she was happy with her decision to jump off the law school bandwagon and dive head first into teaching. It was no surprise to her when she raised her hand and volunteered to help with the annual fundraiser, even though the headmaster was a grump, a very handsome grump, but a grump still the same.

Theo and Nora danced around their attraction until they could no longer keep the safe distance…will their age gap get in the way, will him being the boss stop them…time will tell.
