If I had to sum up this entire book in three words, it would be a quote straight from the story:
“Fate is cruel.”
Wow. I’m genuinely still processing this book.
This was every bit as good as the first two books in the series, and what an emotional roller coaster it was. Kelly truly knows how to make you feel alongside her characters, and I felt like I experienced every bit of Francie’s conflict right along with her-the uncertainty, the longing, the heartbreak, the love, and the feeling of having her heart pulled in two completely different directions.
If you love a love triangle that genuinely makes you question how everything could possibly work out, this series delivers. There were moments when I thought I knew exactly what I wanted for Francie, only to have my heart pulled in another direction a few chapters later (AGAIN!). Her relationships felt so layered, and I loved that her feelings were never reduced to a simple choice.
There were parts of this story that absolutely tugged on my heartstrings, and Kelly’s writing made the emotional moments hit HARD. She has such a beautiful way of writing complicated characters and relationships while making you completely invested in where EACH ONE of their stories are going.
I was incredibly satisfied (or at least still trying to convince myself 😅) with how everything ultimately came together (my heart would have broke either way), although I selfishly wanted MORE from the ending! I would have loved a few extra chapters getting to live in that final chapter of these characters’ lives rather than simply getting a glimpse of what comes next. Kelly, can we please get a little Spectacular-style epilogue novella?! Because I am absolutely not ready to say goodbye to these characters yet.
Overall, I loved this. I cried, stressed, hoped, hurt, and probably experienced every other emotion possible while reading it. Such a beautiful conclusion to the series, and one that I think I’ll be processing for a while.
Content Notes: This series is non-explicit but would not necessarily be considered “clean.” It is fade-to-black and contains romantic/sexual innuendo between unmarried/“married” couples, inappropriate partying, moderate fantasy violence, and some language (including a couple uses of the S-word, several D-words, a couple B-words, and one F-bomb). Nothing sexually explicit is shown on-page.

I am at a loss for words.
Kelly has blown me away. This series, my goodness. The world building, the magic system, the incredibly clear POVs....Kelly has given us a spell-bounding series.
The final installment broke my heart in all the right ways. Things happened I never expected, and in some ways, I didn't want to happen. But it was all handled beautifully. I haven't wepted this hard over a book in a long time. Kelly has made such realistic characters, I truly feel for them.
I applaud you, Kelly. You did it. And I can't wait to read what you share next!
And if you're considering picking up the Skylord series, just do it. You won't regret it!
