From Darkness Into Light: The Biography of a Holocaust Survivor Family

Rate this book
FROM DARKNESS INTO LIGHT is the story of a German-Jewish family that endured years of unmitigated anguish during the catastrophe that was the Holocaust, first in what they thought was their homeland and then in Occupied Belgium. Even though it presents a coldly, brutally accurate depiction of the harshness of life during the time of the Third Reich, FROM DARKNESS INTO LIGHT has the fluid plot, bold characters, and narrative quality of a heart-poundingly fast-paced novel. An excerpt from the “Ron Isaacson, born René Rudolf Isaacson in 1940, closed his eyes and remembered what his mother and father had that as far back in the shadowy, remote past, for as many generations as his family could count, they had been German, and exceedingly proud of that heritage. They were also Jews, and proud of that too ... None of those people had ever imagined that one of those ancient ancestries would be cause to cancel out the other.”

Not a holocaust book

Don't know what's going on here. The title and the look of the cover would indicate that this is a story about the holocaust. It's not so don't be fooled like I was

A great story of trials and strength of a family.

I gave this book a five because it is a story that not only portrays the trials and strengths of the members of this family during those horrendous days of the holocaust, but continues with the trials endured after the war. I thoroughly am intrigued with the following of the family throughout the lives of the 3 generations. I highly recommend this book to all who are interested in the Holocaust and the lives changed and lost during that dark time in world events.

Ok but not great read

I was not enamored with the book. I lost my interest in about the third chapter. That's just my opinion.
