This was such an honest, endearing, and deeply moving story. A book that somehow manages to tackle so many different issues happening around us and around the world, while presenting them in a way that feels unfamiliar, intimate, and incredibly thought-provoking. It carries so many messages, revelations, and layers within one story.
What made this book feel especially different and personal to me was the experience of recognition. There is something so refreshing about reading a story and suddenly realizing you know exactly what the author is referring to: the places, schools, restaurants, shops, brands, food, little details and familiar corners of life. 🥹
I related to this book on so many levels, and it brought waves and waves of nostalgia. There was something almost surreal about seeing pieces of home and of our everyday lives reflected back at me through fiction. It made the story feel much closer to my heart.
This is a story about identity, belonging, society, and the thin veil of the constraints we place on ourselves and on one another. It explores the ways our surroundings shape us, the expectations placed upon us, and the complicated relationship between who we are, who society expects us to be, and who we ultimately choose to become.
It was heartbreaking at times, but also incredibly inspiring. There were moments that hurt, moments that made me reflect, and moments that left me thinking long after I had put the book down.
And perhaps what I loved most is that beneath everything, it felt real. It felt close to home not just geographically, but emotionally.
@nejoudalyagout , I’m so proud of your work and so happy I got to experience this story. ❤️ Thank you for creating something that felt so personal and familiar while still opening the door to so many bigger conversations.
Wishing you all the success and love this book deserves. 🤍
