Summer break is over, and that means it's back to school! Unfortunately that also means coming back to the rural Asahigaoka Branch School with its leaky roof, single grade-combined classroom, and a teacher who just wants to sleep all the time. School isn't forever though and no one knows that better than those who've graduated, like Kaede who runs the local sweet shop. But before the girls of Asahigoaka Branch can learn this life lesson, they have their own discoveries to make: Natsumi finds out what happens when you put off studying for exams, Hotaru gets lost in the woods, and everyone takes a turn participating in the school festival. Learn the true meaning of autumn in volume 3 of Non Non Biyori!
3.5 stars. This series has a very low-key energy and subtle charm that makes it the perfect thing when you just need to not think about the real world for a bit.
The subtle slice-of-life story continues. It is very chill in its presentations and rarely do you have the "Ah Ha Wow" moment, but that does not mean it is not entertaining. I think I wish a little more was happening, but I am content with the series giving everyone beautifully rendered hair and small victories along with equally small challenges.
More goofy shenanigans this volume! A few school-themed ones, too. I think I'm enjoying it more, maybe it's gotten better or maybe I'm just a fan of how Natsumi is such a failure and she gets lots of chapters this volume.
Well, I stuck it out for three volumes to see if this would get better, but it is just too dull and unremarkable. This sort of gentle humor is better handled in Barakamon, Volume 01 and Yotsuba&!, Vol. 01.
