Now also a Romantasy author! Born in Vienna, Austria, I am now living in the paradise of Perth, Australia with my wife, two married children and three grandchildren. I worked many years in the printing industry and later for the United Nations in Vienna. My wife had been a pen-friend, whom I visited in Hong Kong and finally got married to. After an eventful life, finally retired, I began to write children's stories, had them illustrated through Odesk, narrated them myself for YouTube and finally published the ebooks on most platforms. Recently I started writing Romantasy stories and there are nearly 80 of them available. I love romance and wriye about all sort of life situations and also fantasy.
Cheers to another new set of stories about our favorite cat friend, Oliver and his pals, Jumpy & Joey!
The Incredible Train Journey was my sons' favorite story among the three. Maybe because they haven't really ridden a train before and would love to take a ride soon. Bet they thought all train rides were exciting, like the one Oliver and his friends were in. The visit to the mermaids and sharks were breathtaking, the giant baby boy was cute, but the dragon fires were the most exciting!
Hiccup was an interesting story for us because we actually hate getting hiccups while eating. Oliver found a way to cure his hiccup, and it involved disguise, climbing and birds! Yay, how exciting!
We also liked Fishing, this one was kind of close to my heart because my parents actually have fishpond and when my sisters and I were still little kids, we often went fishing and held a contest of getting the largest fish. I hope my kids will get to experience this one too, like how Oliver and Joey had done in the lake.
This is another set of feel-great stories that children will surely love. My sons would never get tired of listening and reading Oliver's stories! Plus, the illustrations were super cool and vibrant, too! Werner's kiddie stories are always a pleasure to read!
Starting with an Incredible Train Journey, this is Werner Stejskal’s latest entry in his ongoing Oliver and Jumpy series of picture books. Parents and grandparents may remember that smell of coal as the engine enters the tunnel, but their train trips were surely never like this. Blending fairytale, reality, and a small child pushing toys around a track, this reads like a grandparent making up the story while the infant plays. It reminds me happily of when my children were small, and it’s a fun tale to share, perhaps my favorite of the set.
Hiccups follow, with a most unexpected cure, and a wonderful picture of a pelican carrying groceries is sure to surprise – though I can’t help wondering if my kids would have wanted to save the fish rather than eat it when cat and kangaroo take a boat out on the water.
As the stories continue, I find myself wanting to know how many readers are emailing their ideas to the author. It’s a fun concept. And the stories and picture are quick, light and fun too.
Disclosure: I heard it was free so I bought it and offer my honest review

These stories are part of the Oliver & Jumpy series created for young children and adults with young minds.
Story 22: The Incredible Train Journey
Oliver has a harrowing adventure with his friends, Jumpy and Joey on a most remarkable train ride. The train is filled with parents and children so the three young adventurers grab the last three seats. Oh, the places they go, the wonders they see, as the train takes them on a journey through magical, sometimes scary places — some with fire-breathing dragons! But their trusty brave train and engineer gets them safely back. They are happy to be home.
Story 23: Hiccup
Oliver suddenly comes down with a case of hiccups. Even Joey cannot scare them out of him. Oliver remembers the story about Hiccup Mountain and the Hiccup Bird. It won't be easy for Oliver to climb to her nest and get her strange cure. Will Oliver, as clever as he is, manage to fool the mother bird and find the cure for his hiccups?
Story 24: Fishline
Oliver is a lucky cat. He gets breakfast delivered by a Pelican — all his favorite foods. Joey, the little kangaroo, needs to use a trampoline to join Oliver in his tree house so that his mother, Jumpy, can do her shopping. Oliver decides to take Joey fishing. Can you believe Oliver hooks a fish so big it takes the boat for a ride? Oliver is certainly a cat with nine lives.
Author Werner is a talented children's writer because he has that rare gift of thinking like a child. Be sure and read all of Oliver and Jumpy's wild and exciting adventures to the children in your lives — they will thank you for it. As always, the pictures drawn by the various illustrators are brightly colored and captivating. The author welcomes readers to send ideas for more stories at www.bedtimestory4you while checking out all of the adventures of Oliver & Jumpy. These delightful tales are wonderful for reading to small children from 18 months to 3 years old well as teaching older children ranging in ages from 3 to 7 years old who are just beginning to learn to read. The stories are educational, enticing young minds to love learning to read by using exciting escapades to capture their attention and stimulate their imaginations.
Werner Stejskal’s book of Oliver and Jumpy Stories 22-24 is so cute and funny! It is also quite well written. The illustrations are beautifully done and would be very appealing to young children.
Having reviewed several of Werner’s Oliver and Jumpy books so far, I can say that this is my favorite. Your little ones will love it!
Story 22, “The Incredible Train Journey” takes our friends, Oliver, Jumpy and Joey, on a fun but scary adventure. The train ride turns into a roller coaster; the train goes up and up and then quickly way, way down. Oh, my, gosh! Loci the train goes under the sea, and our friends see mermaids and a shark. Whoa! Loci is back on land, and then before they know it, Loci becomes an airplane and flies into the sky across a canyon. Oh, my! They find themselves in a world of giants, and a little giant boy thinks Loci is his toy. They escape to Iceland (Icyland) and see a polar bear and then barely get out of the clutches of fire-throwing dragons! Our exhausted friends are relieved to be back near Sillandia and home. Whew! What an adventure!
In Story 23, “Hiccup”, Oliver has the hiccups. He hears that there is a mother hiccup bird on the mountain. All her baby chicks are born with hiccups. The bird can get the nectar from a special hiccup-curing flower that grows deep in the jungle. Oliver climbs up the mountain, disguises himself as a baby bird chick, and hops in the nest. The parents feed the special flower nectar to the baby birds and Oliver. Cured of the hiccups, Oliver jumps off the mountain with his parachute. Whoops! The parachute doesn’t open, but Jumpy catches Oliver in her strong arms.
Story 24, “Fishing”, is delightful story. Oliver and Joey are having a pancake breakfast together in Oliver’s treehouse. Oliver is babysitting Joey today. Oliver and Joey decide to go fishing on the lake so they can have a nice fish dinner. Oliver catches a huge fish, but the fish takes off with the boat in tow. Joey is strong enough to resist the fish and is able to get the boat to shore. Followed by some animal friends, they carry the fish to the park, and they have a wonderful barbecue.
I'm a relative new-comer to the Oliver & Jumpy series, but I'm beginning to get a feel for the characters. Oliver (the tomcat) and Jumpy (the kangaroo) are NOT romantically involved. She's a married lady with a little son named Joey and Oliver is a bachelor who serves as Joey's Favorite Uncle. The three of them like to pal around together and they have adventures that I can only describe as a charming mixture of the natural world and fantasy. And when this author starts fantasizing, he pulls out all the stops. That's what makes them delightful books to read to a kid. After all, YOU may not be expecting both sharks and mermaids in the same bit of ocean, but a kid's fine with it. The more excitement, the merrier.
The first story has Oliver, Jumpy, and Joey going on a train ride and that train runs through every kind of adventure possible, from deep-sea dives to cliff-hangers to tunnels with fire-breathing dragons. They're youngsters and just practicing, but still....
In the second story, Oliver is forced to go undercover when he develops a case of hiccups which can only be cured if he can successfully pass himself off as a baby bird! And after that crisis is past, there's the little matter of getting down off the mountain top. Who packed that parachute, anyway?
The third story is interesting because it's NOT narrated by Oliver, but in third person. It's more of a domestic tale and we get to see Oliver's very enviable life in his luxurious tree house. If I had a pelican delivering food every day, you'd never get me to leave. But Uncle Oliver is minding Joey and he proposes a fishing trip. Of course, Joey's game for that (as any little boy would be) and it turns out much better than I would have anticipated. Maybe the author was still exhausted from the train ride.
These are well-written and totally off-the-wall kids' books. If you and your child like to let your imaginations go wild, you'll love this series.
Oliver and Jumpy love to explore and have fun. They are the greatest of friends and enjoy sharing their stories with children. Three new stories are in this book. First, The Incredible Train Journey. Second, Hiccup and third, Fishing. Let's see what they are up to now. Joey, Jumpy and Oliver experience their first train trip. They are all excited and can't wait to see where they'd go. Through the countryside, in a tunnel and up a hill. Swooshing down through the valley and straight under water. They go to the beach and even see Icyland. What a journey for them. Hiccups are strange, aren't they? Oliver has the hiccups and can't get rid of them. He knows birds in the mountains have a cure. Oliver climbs up the mountain and pretends to be a baby bird to get the cure. After three days, they are gone and Oliver heads back home. Fishing is so much fun! Oliver is having Joey over for breakfast and then they will go fishing. A Pelican stops by with breakfast and Oliver sets the table. Since Kangaroos can't climb trees, they use a trampoline near Oliver's house. After having breakfast, they go fishing and catch one big enough to feed them all.
I love how fun this series is. You just never know what Oliver and Jumpy are gonna do next. We can all learn from them too. Mr. Stejskal writes with a style that draws little ones in. The illustrations keep the child focused on the story. So many adventures to have and so much fun to share. These will be your child's favorite book in no time. It's a must for little ones library's. You won't be disappointed.
I found no issues.
I gave this one 5 cheers out of 5 because each adventure is better than the last. Copy of book provided by author in exchange for a fair review~
“All of us were hiccupping as we waited for their parents to return.”
Story 22: The Incredible Train Journey
Oliver, Jumpy and Joey take an amazing train adventure that takes them up like a roller coaster, down into the sea and flying across a canyon in this tale of excitement and fun. The illustrations are beautiful and every child will wish for a trip like this.
Story 23: Hiccup Oliver gets the hiccups and they just won’t go away. He decides to visit the Hiccup bird who knows how to help their children when they get the hiccups. Oliver disguises himself as a bird and is soon on his way to getting rid of the hiccups. What a fun way to lose hiccups! I wish there was a Hiccup bird near me sometimes!
Story 24: Fishing
Oliver takes Joey fishing to try out Joey’s new fishing rod but start the day with a delicious breakfast that Oliver makes. Joey is getting so big now and he and Oliver are becoming close friends. This is a wonderful story about hanging out with friends and doing what you want on those lazy summer days.
These three stories are just the latest in the amazing adventures Oliver and Jumpy have been having. I always look forward to the next episodes in these delightful children’s books.
This time out we have three different illustrators, i Cenezal, Anahit Aleksanyan, Mario Tereso and their pictures are colorful and capture the story perfectly.
I loved the imaginative story about the Train but being a bird lover I have to say my favorite was the Hiccup Bird story. Werner Stejskal has done it again!
So far there are 11 books (each containing 3 stories) in the Oliver and Jumpy series by Werner Stejskal. Oliver is a black tomcat who is rather full of himself and Jumpy is a female kangaroo. They are good friends, and have had many adventures together. Sometimes Jumpy’s son, Joey is part of the adventure as well. This book, which is book 8 of the series, contains the following stories:
In Story 22: The Incredible Train Journey, Oliver, Jumpy and Joey go on a train journey which takes them to places where trains do not usually travel: it’s an exciting magical adventure.
In Story 23: Hiccup, Oliver has the hiccups. What do you do when you have the hiccups? Well, Oliver visits the Hiccup bird (an adventure in itself). He has to disguise himself as a baby Hiccup bird: will this work? And how will Oliver return home afterwards?
In Story 24: Fishing, Oliver takes Joey fishing to try out Joey’s new fishing rod. Will they catch any fish?
These are delightful whimsical stories, beautifully illustrated. Just perfect to read with small children. My Kindle doesn’t do justice to the illustrations (although they look beautiful on both computer and telephone). I know times have changed, but I really prefer print versions of story books for young children.
Note: The author drew my attention to his Oliver and Jumpy story series, and I downloaded a copy of this book for free.
I think this may be my favorite book in The Oliver and Jumpy series. In the first story young readers are taken on a wild adventure with Loci, the locomotive turned roller coaster. Passengers get more than they bargained for as they are taken under the sea, through a land of giants, and a cavern filled with fire-breathing dragons. The second story involves Oliver's plight with uncontrollable hiccups. When he remembers the legend of a deep flower hidden in the jungle that provides food for the hiccup bird, he is forced to become a mountain climber. Can Oliver successfully disguise himself as a hiccup chick, find a cure, and return home safely? The third adventure finds Uncle Oliver having breakfast with Joey, his young kangaroo friend. They decide to go fishing in a rowboat on the nearby lake. What happens when Joey gets impatient?
Cenizal does a wonderful job illustrating the cast of characters which include sharks, mermaids, dragons and giants. Their facial expressions are priceless. Preschoolers will love them. If you haven't read any of the stories in this series, I recommend that you start with this one. You can read all three stories in one sitting or break them up into individual bedtime stories. Highly recommended!
This book is part of a series called Oliver and Jumpy. This particular volume has stories 22 - The Incredible Train Journey, 23 - Hiccup and 24 - Fishing. It is an excellent gift for parents with children under 8 as suggested by the author. The book is beautifully illustrated by i Cenizal and that is a very important plus, as its main audience will rely on the images to follow the stories, as many will note have reached the age to start reading by themselves. In The Incredible Train Journey, Oliver, Jumpy and Joey go in a ride in a train through incredible places. In the Hiccup, Oliver goes into a journey to the top of a mountain in order to have his hiccup stopped. Finally in Fishing, Peli the Pelican delivers breakfast to Oliver, and Joey is invited for the breakfast. After eating they go out fishing in another delicious story. Stories are very sweet and characters are always showing good behavior. No violence, nothing too scary or too exciting, it will keep your toddler entertained during that critical bedtime period. They will love the stories and soon enough Oliver and Jumpy will be in their hearts forever.
In my kindle fire the story was presented in landscape orientation. No option to have it in portrait orientation, but this is far away from being a problem.
These are great adventure stories for young children, and the illustrations are gorgeous. Remember Oliver, the handsome and arrogant black and white cat? Remember his best friend the kangaroo lady, Jumpy, and her little boy Joey? Well, they are back! Three more adventures are told here which kids will thoroughly enjoy. First story, "The Incredible Train Journey," is filled with excitement, and simulates a scary roller coaster ride through tunnels and under the sea. The second story is "Hiccup" which Oliver can't stop... Hiccup, Hiccup! He has to climb a tall mountain where he's learned a certain bird secretes through feeding her babies a certain nectar to stop and prevent future hiccups. I wonder if this works on humans! The third story is "Fishing," which is really fun to do. Oliver takes Joey on a fishing trip. Oliver catches a really big fish which draws their fishing boat around the lake. Who will win, Oliver or the fish? As always, author Werner Stejskal presents excellently written stories to excite children. I recommend this story highly as well as all of Werner's other fun stories.
"Oliver and Jumpy, Stories 22-24" by Werner Stejskal is the continuing saga of Oliver 'an elegant Tomcat,' and Jumpy Oliver's kangaroo best friend. Their adventures take them on: 1.) Story 22 - The Incredible Train Journey (a train that goes underwater who knew?) 2.) Story 23 - Hiccup (where Oliver goes to live with some baby birds for 3 days so that he can receive nectar from a flower that will help stop his hiccups.) Finally 3.) Story 24 - Fishing (enjoying a nice day with friends at the lake, catching a fish, and proceeding to the BBQ park for a feast.)
The nice part about these stories is that if you've never read one of these books before the author introduces the character. It is great because the stories are short and can be read as a bedtime story in 1 or 3 parts. Perfect for school age children to read with their parents, or alone, and also for parents to read to their younger children. Always enjoy reading about Oliver and Jumpy's adventures.
Oliver and his friends certainly have some amazing adventures in Sillandia. At the beginning of this book, it starts as just a family train ride. Throughout the story it's a wild ride that it like an ultimate rollercoaster designer's dream. My daughter loved each new thing to see as each page turned. "Hiccups" takes the overdone topic of how to cure hiccups by using the fantasy of the story to find a resolution. She loved Oliver's costume and found the ending very satisfying. "Fishing" was the last story in the book and had so many events she could relate to or find interesting. That is something we love about Oliver and Jumpy's stories: they are a springboard for connections that most children can share with the adult reading with them and they are creative stories that spark a reader's imagination. It is adventure, silliness, and creativity that will please your young one.
For some reason, I read Oliver and Jumpy: Stories 22-24 by Werner Stejskal, which I received free in exchange for my review, in August, but neglected to write that review. Probably just old age and senility. Like the other books in this series, this is three neat little stories of Oliver the elegant tom cat and his friend, Jumpy the kangaroo, and the adventures they get up to. Elegantly illustrated, these stories are a hit with my grandchildren, and I’m certain for kids anywhere. From Oliver’s train journey to his fishing trip with Jumpy, they not only entertain, but contained subtly within them are good life lessons for kids. My apologies for the delayed review, and thanks for another great book.
I received a copy to facilitate my review. The opinions expressed here are my own. Story 22 finds Oliver and his friends on a train ride adventure. They are taken through many fantastic lands and find themselves on a rollercoaster. Story 23 finds Oliver with a case of the hiccups. The only way he can get rid of them is to climb a mountain where a special bird lives. Their babies are born with hiccups and need the nectar from a special flower. Follow Oliver on this adventure. Story 24 Oliver is spending time with Joey while his mom goes shopping. After eating breakfast they go out on a boat to go fishing. Follow them on this fishing adventure.
Oliver and Jumpy, Stories 22-24, involve an exciting and adventuresome train ride that is truly creative and will keep children enthralled. The next story is about having hiccups and how Oliver solves his problem in a funny way. The final story is about a fishing adventure and sharing with friends. All these stories will engage children and open their minds to creativity as they read each entertaining story.
I was given this book in exchange for an honest review. As an author of children's books I would recommend this book.
Wonderful stories for both the young and those share them!
Werner Stejskal you have done it again, coming up with stories full of excitement and wonder to the little ears who will hear these wonderful stories!
An exciting train ride that stimulate the senses, a great fishing tale that all can enjoy and who would ever think to disguise as an eagle chick to receive the nectar that blocks hiccups. Werner you have come up with great stories here what an imaginative mind you have! Well done!!!
Another hit with the top-hat wearing Oliver and his pal Jumpy. The stories are once again great for children, really engaging their imagination and interest and the accompanying colorful illustrations are whimsical and a perfect partner to the three stories. The author always engages the children reading with questions, which works great for getting parents to engage their young readers in discussions about the story. Older kids will enjoy reading these alone and younger ones will love having it read to them, as the stories will appeal for a broad age spectrum.
WOW Oliver is up to his tricks again , and yes Jumpy saves him,Take the train ride, experience the hickups , and go fishing with these two friends...Enjoy these great stories..my grandchildren loved them. DEXTER DON
Once again, three amazingly tales of Oliver and Jumpy are put together to share the stories of friendship between unlikely animals. The graphics and stories mesh so well together that both tell the story.
For parents looking for an entertaining series for their little ones, look no further. With both colorful pictures and fantastical journeys, this series is excellent for young kids.
