KK Hendin writes books where people flirt awkwardly, make out, dish out a whole lot of sass and ridiculousness, and live happily ever after. She's the author of many books, including the weekly serial, ALL THE WRONG REASONS.
She also writes books as Brontë Reeve, where people aren't as nice and Happily Ever After isn't a guarantee.
KK is currently writing way too many books and is still waiting for the subway to run on a regular schedule. When she's not playing book Tetris in an attempt to fit everything onto the bookshelves in her tiny NYC apartment, she's probably wandering her neighborhood with her camera or drinking yet another cup of coffee.

A few notes:
This is not a Twelve Beats In A Bar book.
This is not a New Adult book.
This is not anything like the 'usual' KK book.
You've been warned.

Beautiful Little Fool by K.K. Hendin is a 2015 publication. I was provided a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is my first book by this author, so I had no idea what to expect, but I thought the blurb sounded intriguing, so I signed on to review it.

Well, this one certainly is interesting, I 'll give it that. It's hard to review books like this because I don't want to give anything away. I do think many people will be surprised by it because it doesn't really fit into any specific category, and I don't imagine anyone will know what they are in for when they pick it up. I admit that as I got a few chapters in, the story had a New Adult tone to it, (which had me worried because I've pretty much sworn off NA), but no, it's definitely not New Adult, although you do get two perspectives and are privy to Cedar and Ellis' thoughts, the book is a third person narrative.

Once I finished the book I was a tiny bit shell shocked at first, but the more a thought about it, the more I liked it. This is a wicked little story with lots of twist and turns and a shocking conclusion I never suspected was coming.

So, the author gets high marks for imagination, for storytelling outside the box, and for weaving a tale of intrigue and mystery that kept me wondering what was going on, and what would happened next, which kept me engaged from start to finish.

Overall this one is 4 stars

Beautiful Little Fool by K.K. Hendon is one of those books that you are either going to like or hate. It is not a romance. It is more of a dark thriller or psychological thriller. When I finished the book I questioning what I had just read. I didn't particularly enjoy the book but at the same time I could not put it down. It was like driving past a horrific accident and fighting the impulse to look. Rather than turning away you ended up staring with morbid curiosity. I had to ponder on this story for a few days before I could formulate my thoughts to write a spoiler free review.

Beautiful Little Fool is masterfully written. The author wove a very complex plot that was meticulously executed. The twists and turns will keep the reader guessing. The final revelations will be a complete shock. The characters are well developed and play their roles to perfection.

It was very hard to like the main characters in this book. Neither one had qualities that a reader could invest in. On the other hand, their story was fascinating.

Ellis Carrington, the hero was the unlucky guy that was born under the wrong star. Nothing could of changed his destiny. He went from being an ordinary guy to a ruthless billionaire within moments when he inherited 87 billion dollars from Harold Feingold. The power and money affected him and changed his character. He suddenly had money and power. The only thing left to conquer was Cedar Reynolds, the most desirable woman in New York City.

Cedar Reynolds is the Queen of New York City. She is rich, smart, powerful, and exceptionally beautiful. She was billionaire Harold Feingold's protege. She should of inherited his empire and 87 billion dollars. Now she will do anything to acquire this money. Even sacrificing herself to Ellis Carrington. After all she is Cedar Reynolds, the woman everyone wants to be.

The story begins with Harold Feingold passing away and the mystery of who will be heir to his empire. No one knows what his last will and testament contain. The one thing for certain is his last wishes will be carried out to perfection. He is still the most powerful man even from the grave. His power has no limits.

This book shocked me. Even though it was not my cup of tea, it was a very good book. If you are looking for a romance, this is not the book for you. If you are looking for a book where there is redemption, this is not the book for you. If you are looking for a book to mess with your mind and twist your thoughts, read this book. This is a psychological thriller that was written with perfection.

I knew from the blurb that this one was going to be an interesting ride and that I’d need to just let it all happen without trying to pigeonhole it into a nice neat little cubby, what I didn’t expect was it to be so deliciously twisted and intriguing.

Intriguing is a good place to start because I’m going to state right off the bat that I can’t say that I liked any of the characters, well maybe one but he was a bit player, and there may be a bit of displaced admiration for another, but I was definitely intrigued by them in the way a scientist would be upon conducting an experiment or maybe a more apt analogy would be when you’re watching a horror movie and you know the monster is going to butcher the poor innocent but can’t look away even when the bloodbath begins.

Cedar Reynolds is much more than she appears and as the unofficial Queen of New York, she reigns supreme but what lurks beneath that perfect facade? Is she a psychopath? Sociopath? Or simply a woman determined to get what she feels is her due? Despite everything, and even now that I’ve finished the book, I can’t help but admire the woman’s mind. Intellect is a powerful and seductive thing and Cedar has it spades. Ellis, while he showed some sparks of life, the poor guy was just a total fish out of water. The most likeable character was Cecil, though that is a dubious honor considering his is Cedar’s PA.

The book is a quick read and well paced. There were quite a few moments that had me going WTF and having to pause to process it all, and then there was the BIG one that branded ‘deliciously twisted’ on this one. Also, if you liked the movies Dangerous Liaisons or Cruel Intentions, you’ll more than likely find this one right up your alley, but don’t mistake it for being just like them, just that they have similarities.

The Bottom Line:

When I read the blurb for this book, I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect. It intrigued me, and being a voracious reader of the romance genre, I guess I was thinking that this would be a hard fought battle of the hearts. That the hero of this book would win over his heroine, in true romantic fashion, and off they’d go into the land of happily ever afters, albeit the insanely rich land of HEAs, but still.

“Everyone wanted Cedar Reynolds. Everyone wished they were her.”

Perfect. That one word sums up Cedar Reynolds with exquisite accuracy. Her finely honed persona was one crafted painstakingly by Cedar herself and designed to feed and maintain her image as the most feared, respected, envied and admired woman within New York City’s high society scene and beyond. This image was one that Cedar protected ruthlessly, exactingly. Controlling absolutely everything and everyone that even remotely touched her, her precisely managed life or her coveted professional standing, she was always planning and plotting her next move and several moves beyond. Everything, absolutely everything served a purpose. Every word she said, every expression on her face, every move she made was calculated to her advantage or to serve a future purpose. EVERYTHING.

“When you’re New York City’s reigning queen, you never walk around with a hair out of place, with a nail chipped, or God forbid, in last season’s clothing.”

Cedar Reynolds was orphaned at the tender age of 18, losing her parents, darlings of the New York City societal pages, in a most horrific way, leaving her to be taken in by a close family friend, multi-billionaire, Harold Feingold. It was Harold who groomed Cedar into the strong, confident and precise woman she was today. Acting as her mentor, Cedar was the closest thing to a confidante that the elusive billionaire had, but even she did not know all of his secrets.

“He was perfect. Absolutely perfect.”

Ellis Carrington was orphaned at the age of 5 and the product of the foster care system. Having just completed grad school with his master’s degree two weeks prior to the death of Harold Feingold, he was taken completely by surprise when Mr. Feingold’s attorney pays him an unannounced visit two days after the funeral and delivers some life altering news. Thus begins Ellis’ plunge into the spotlight, into unimaginable wealth, into a life he never dreamed of because it was so unfathomable.

As the heir to Feingold’s empire and as his protégé and quasi-confidante, Ellis and Cedar are thrust together. Cedar sees Ellis’ discomfort, his struggle to find his place, and offers to help him. She proposes mentoring sessions, a crash course on the rich and famous lifestyle, so to speak, and Ellis, completely smitten with and dazzled by Cedar, as well as in desperate need of a friend he can trust just as much as he is in need of the guidance she offers, gratefully accepts her offer.

And so begins the whirlwind romance of Ellis Carrington and Cedar Reynolds…

“Everything was calculated. Everything was always calculated.”

Through most of this book, I felt as if I was reading the New York high society version of Mean Girls. This is a dark, twisted, off-the-charts mind-fuck of a tale that absolutely left me wanting a more. The author delivered a devious, wicked, evil story and she did it brilliantly. It left me scratching my head; it left me questioning everything that I had just read; and it left me sitting there with my mouth gaping open and an audible “What the hell?!” bursting from it.

This isn’t a story that you enjoy, this is one that you experience, and that experience for me is definitely worth the 4.5 smooches I’m giving it.

My Review: (ARC provided)http://triciaciak.blogspot.com/
5 stars!

I read it and was speechless. My jaw dropped and I thought Oh My God this didn't just happen. Definitely not a typical romance if one at all. I was shocked I don't think I've ever read a more despicable heroine if you even want to call her that. I think she was worse than Amy Dunne from Gone Girl! I'm glad I read the authors note about going in blind because honestly I don't know if I would have read it otherwise. This isn't typically something I read, I like dark but this was more than dark. I couldn't put the book down though and commend the writer for putting this out there because I think she might get a lot of upset romance lovers! Actually most of the characters in this book are pretty despicable and even the "supposed" good guy wasn't very likable to me. I did feel bad for him but I wasn't really rooting for him.

Cedar-like I said...heroine? villain? She gets anything and everyone she wants. She will stop at nothing to get where she needs to be. She's beautiful, rich, and thought of highly in the New York scene. She is called the Queen of New York City.

Ellis-hero? Very smart just finished up his Masters degree and recently discovered something he never would have fathomed. Cedar and Ellis pushed together unknowingly, very attracted to each other, each has a plan.

There is not much more I can write without spoiling it.

This book was a good change of pace for me and made me realize I don't always need everything wrapped up perfectly at the end. It's nice to have jaw dropping moments and this book was definitely one.

It is going to be hard to write a review for this book without giving away too much, but I'm going to do my best! I cannot tell you much about the plot without giving away the big reveal, but what I can tell you is that the prose is taught, the writing is perfectly sparse, and the pacing is quick. There's no ornamental descriptions or long passages of inner dialogue in this novel. Every sentence is straight to the point and packs a punch. There is not a single wasted word.

Without giving too much away, I will say that I loved Cedar as the lead character in this novel. She's unlikeable, for sure, but there's something altogether intriguing about a woman with such a narrow vision of what she wants in the world, and who will stop at absolutely nothing to get it. She's deliciously unattached and a little evil, and I loved living in her world for a while.
The book is short and moves at a quick pace throughout, but the last 20% of the novel moves at breakneck speed, right up to a shocking conclusion. The story is riveting and you'll gasp when you find out the big secret. I found myself saying "What?!?"

This book is unlike any other K.K. Hendon novel, but I loved it!

Beautiful Little Fool is an insanely insane book! (That probably makes no sense if you haven't read it yet...) Going into this book I was kind of hoping for one of those "Wow I didn't know I could love someone until I met you! So sorry for trying to trick you... I've truly changed..." kind of books. Yah, totally not what this book is about.

Beautiful Little Fool is a cruel and intensely beautiful story that holds no punches and left me completely astounded by the last sentence. Truly, I was woefully unprepared for this book and what it's truly about.

First off, this book was beautifully written (well at least as beautiful as it could be for being written about such a weird and disgusting situation). The author did an amazing job of keeping me in suspense and unsuspecting to what is truly going on with not only the characters, but also the plot. What I thought was a simple plot and basic characters ended up being a book full of small backstories that lead to this book full of betrayals and scary rich people (no joke, I'm re-thinking my "How to Become Rich" plan because of this book). So cheers for a book that twists you up and spits you out and leaves you utterly confused on how things could've escalated so quickly.

So, onto the characters...

Cedar at first glance is the usual power hungry rich girl looking to have even more money and more status. Yah she was manipulative and a Grade A b*tch but couldn't she change? Wasn't this a story about a change in character and a realization of what's truly important? Not money but love?

Yah no. This story was definitely not what I was expecting. Cedar is manipulative and heartless and she just gets worse as the book goes on. I really underestimated her throughout the book and everyone did the same. I'm actually really impressed with K.K. Hendin's ability to make a main character so vicious. Cedar did everything in her power to make sure she got that 87 billion dollars.

Ellis, on the other hand, is who I thought would be the hero of the story. Yet instead he was blinded by the money, responsibility and, of course, Cedar. This is definitely not the usual romance story or even rags-to-riches book. Instead of being strong and insusceptible to trickery, Ellis is the exact opposite. He's a weak character and is presented as a fool who is way over his head.

This book really reminded me of the Great Gatsby as their was no truly redeemable characters. Of the main characters, Ellis was far too weak and Cedar far to evil. This book really took me out of my comfort zone which made me love it and hate it.

I was actually really into this book until I got to the ending. I felt like the book ended on too much of a almost paranormal spot and it just made the story feel a little too fake. I could understand it if the characters were born the way they are, but then it's thrown in that Cedar is this whole other thing... I don't know...

I am interested to see if there will be another book after Beautiful Little Fool. This is definitely the book for those who aren't interested in the usual story and want something that is more thrilling and breathtaking (and not in a good way). ;)

Have you ever read a book and at the end thought “What the hell just happened here?” That is what happened with BEAUTIFUL LITTLE FOOL- and in a good way. I have read KK’s other works, namely the Twelve Beats in a Bar series, and I was excited to read this one from her. I am so glad that she gave some warning to release all pre-conceived notions on this book and go in blind- that it was nothing like what she has written before. I am glad that I took this advice to heart. It allowed me to see the story with a fresh perspective and that made ALL the difference.

This book basically centers around Cedar. She is conniving, manipulative, and the epitome of what every woman in New York wanted to be. She was brilliant, gorgeous, and determined to have what she wanted no matter the cost. At first she comes across as an alpha female. It is not often that you read such a strong and independent woman who is the alpha in a story. She is the one calling the shots and every man is at her back and call. She is at the top in every possible way and that was something interesting to read. It is not often you read such a strong female lead and she has that strength and determination in spades.

Poor Ellis never stood a chance against her persuasion. He is shocked at his change in life and what new direction he finds himself in. He is not prepared for the world ahead of him and Cedar finds this as an opportunity to get her way. Ellis just wants to live his life and find a way in this new found chaos so he relies on Cedar for help and falls in love. Their relationship seems picturesque but hides many secrets- some that poor Ellis knows nothing about.

Needless to say the last 30% of the book shocked me. This story took a complete turn and it was well played and well delivered. Maybe I should have seen it coming but I didn’t. It was well planned and well executed on KK’s part. Who knew she had such a sinister side of her writing brain?! This book will shock you in a new way. I am still reeling from that ending. Cedar Reynolds… The world needs to watch out for the alpha witch.

If you want a surprise and a fresh story , this book might just be what you need. There is so much happening in this short book that you take it in as it comes and are stunned after the last page. KK has shown a new side to her writing style and I am both intrigued and terrified as to what this side of her brain comes up with next!

So I have to say first and foremost the description of this book was so confusing, but in such a good way. I mean you know going into the book that it has something to do with more money then I could ever imagine, but little else. I mean you know someone died, and left someone a lot of money, and someone is clearly not happy about the outcome, but isn’t that always how it is when someone with money dies? Needless to say i was interested to see where this book was going. I have ready that the author things to reader should go in as blind as possible to the book, and I have to say for the most part I do agree, it helps make the book more impactful, but it also makes it kind of hard to review. So while I am going to do my best not to give too much away, if you want to be completely surprised abandon this review now, you have been warned.

So I have to admit the book kind of started off a little bit slow for me. We start off right when someone has died and all the planning and events that happen after someone passes away. Normally I don’t really like when a book starts up slow, but I think it kind of worked for this book, because the subject matter didn’t warrant a fast pace, and when the book did pick up (and it does in a big way) it made it more exciting.

It’s hard to say too much about the characters without making it not as exciting for the reader, so I am going to try my best. I would say the two main characters in this story are Cedar and Ellis, and honestly I had a hard time liking either of them. These two really don’t get classified as heroine and hero in my book. More like the complete opposite. While it is hard to say anyone would really like these characters, they do make for a compelling story, its kind of like one of those train wreck situations you can’t help but stare.

All in all I thought this story was both interesting and unique, the author definitely took some risks. I enjoyed reading the book, and it was a short read for me. I think if you are looking for a book that isn’t your standard everyday book then this might be a book you want to check out.

First Reaction: WHAT?!

Full Review:
I honestly don't know how to write a review for this book without giving away it away. Everything, from the plot to the characters to the writing were not what I was expecting at all and I loved that.

I've never read a book by K.K. before so I went into it completely blind, even the summary left e wondering exactly what the hell was I getting myself into.

The book begins right after the richest man in New York dies and his protege, Cedar, is left wondering who did he put in his will, what she finds out comes as a complete shock, but in what turns out to be total Cedar fashion, she gets on top of the issue and handles it like a boss (A very, very, VERY scary boss)

The writing of this book is amazing, the author manages to confuse you and make you second guess everything and doubt everyone in who is ever mentioned, I even doubted characters that were mentioned twice, I was that suspicious. Once I started it I didn't want to put it down until the last page.

Definitely Unexpected
This is my first time reading this author and she did a wonderful job with the writing of this book. She has created the perfect love to hate character in Cedar. Its somewhat difficult to write this review without leaving any spoilers or things that will leave you with preconceived notions. You don't get a lot of information from the blurb, but that's on purpose. You really need to go into this without the afore mentioned preconceived notions. I will say though that this book will have you doing several double takes, asking yourself "did that just actually happen?" I had several of those moments where my eyes were probably bugging out with my jaw dropped to the floor! I seriously have to give the author props for having come up with this story. I certainly haven't read anything quite like it and it's definitely worth the read. I will absolutely be looking for more from this author. I was given a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I was given an ARC book for an honest review free of persuasion from the author or anyone else affiliated with this book.

CONTAINS SOME SPOILERS

This book was hard. It was rough. It left you with a love to hate emotion towards the characters. What would you do for 87 billion dollars? For Ellis, it was handed to him. He was chosen as the sole heir to a billionaire. Cedar thought it should be hers. She was going to do whatever it took to make it hers. WHATEVER it took. I can not give you much more on this story. That is why the synopsis is so brief. You really must go into this book not knowing. This is not your typical happy ever after romance story. You will be left wondering WTH. I urge you to pick up this book and give it a shot. K.K. Hendin really pushed the envelope with this book.

When receiving the ARC to review from KK Hendin, we were asked not to give much away in our review. So, this will be a short, sweet, to the point review that I hope leaves you intrigued enough to pick it up.

Cedar Reynolds – Queen of New York. Curator of the Art Gallery. She has it all. Or, does she? When a tragedy rocks all of New York City, Cedar's world gets turned upside down. For 87 billion dollars, she is willing to do ANYTHING.

A mind blowing, quick read that left me wanting 10x more than what there was. You will be floored by this book. Pick it up, devour it, and then let it take over your mind with what the ending for Cedar Reynolds could be.

This is my first experience of K K Hendin's writing. I really enjoyed Beautiful Little Fool from the start. There were many WTH moments over Cedar's behaviour but you could understand her thought process but the sudden twist at the end surrounding Ellis was a step too far for me. I can understand she is willing to do ANYTHING for 87 billion but I expected her to get some comeuppance. That is the only letdown of this book for me. I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

From the blurb I knew this was going to be an interesting book. I mean when there is that much money at stake pretty much anything goes.

This is my first time reading a book by K.K. Hendin and I loved everything about it! I felt the woman on the cover matched Cedar rather well!

I loved how Cedar was a demanding powerful woman. I loved everything about her. I know she's not the most likeable person but I think that's why I like her since she's a different character to love.

If you want a different kind of romance book then you should try this one out!

I'm not sure there's much I can say about Beautiful Little Fool without spoiling the read. Beautiful Little Fool is definitely not what I was expecting. I loved that it was different from what I've read by K.K. Hendin in the past. The read is quick but will have you wondering more than once about what you've just read. I know I'll be rereading BLF again soon, while waiting on more from Hendin.

OK, so where on earth do I start.. This book is wickedly crazy and twisted but insanely brilliant! There are some major WTF moments throughout.
Cedar is the epitome of gold diggers despite being rich in her own right but then when 87 billion dollars are at stake you'd do anything right?
