***This novel is intended for adults(18+) for mature and explicit sexual content. It is a standalone and the series does not have to be read in order.***

Sorcha
Some men just can’t accept that a woman can be perfectly content without them. I mean, come on—a girl can get laid whenever she wants. It’s not like it’s hard. And Lord knows, I have no interest in a relationship. There is no room for that drama-filled nonsense in my life. Pursuing my passion is all I have time for. Selfish and shortsighted? Perhaps. However, I know what I want and I have no problem going after it. Life is a string of decisions, constructed and manifested by each person. I own mine, and I don’t apologize for it either.
Gavin
My past always seems to define me. I hadn’t ever considered love as an option for someone with the background and proclivities that I have. Not until I spot a sexy little brunette across the crowded room. It’s magnetic, and as much as she tries to resist, I am going to have her. Even though she won’t submit, her sass does something to me—changes me. Come hell or high water, she will be mine.

What inspired you to write your first Novel? "My girlfriends and I were sitting around discussing our latest reads, all the perfect Cinderella type romance novels that are out there and how we would like to read something that more could relate to. I have been an avid reader since I was a child and love to write, so I decided to write something for us. A not so perfect love story; one that had a little humor, tied in some vampires, a little adult content, morally hard choices and was a satisfying read for all those hard working readers who want some good ole' junk food for the brain when they come home after a long day at work."
Raised in California she moved to Colorado to pursue her education and fell in love with the area as well as her now husband.

Though Kristina loved her art and literature classes in college she put that to the side in order to start her career in nursing. After establishing her career she felt something was missing. While she adores being a nurse she felt her artistic side was calling and started to pick up her writing and painting again, setting aside a few hours a day on her day's off. After a period of time she found that her short story had grown into her first novel. Writing is a passion of hers and she feels the greatest achievement in her art is creating works that bring enjoyment to others.

She continues to reside in Colorado with her husband and children. Kristina is working on her third novel, part III of The Lunar Eclipse Series.

What a fantastic book and a breath of fresh BDSM air. Sorcha and Gavin are both head strong, smart, independent and single. I might even say alpha meets alpha. Neither one are looking for a relationship but they do sort of stumble into one and it all starts with a chance meeting at a BDSM club called the Velvet Rope. Sorcha is sassy and Gavin is immediately taken by her strong will and mouth. And it only gets better from here.

description

I would categorize this as a romance with light BDSM. I think the reason for that is because, although very sexually independent and active, Sorcha has limited knowledge and really no experience with the BDSM lifestyle. So we get to learn and grow with her as we read. She's tough, smart, thinks for herself and will do things in her own time, when she is comfortable doing them. She isn't going to roll over and let anyone tell her what to do unless she wants them to. So it takes just a while to dip her toes into it and even then it's very light.

"Sex this good comes with a price. A price tied with emotions and inevitable commitment. Or devastating heartache."

description

Sorcha has a work friend who talks about the BDSM lifestyle and finally talks her into going to a club. He gives her some technical terminology and information that is very important before going to a club. Although educational, I feel the author did a good job at blending the information with the story. That way you get good and accurate information without all the text book jargon. I thought the fit and flow of the information was very nice and it gives the reader a chance to actually learn some real facts about the lifestyle. On the flip side, if you already have a good understanding of the lifestyle this may drag on a bit for you. BUT don't be discouraged. Like I said, I think it's done well and fits into the story just fine.

description

Scrupulous captivated me from the beginning and didn't want to put the book down. Sorcha is a character I don't typically see in these types of books and I absolutely loved her. Im putting her in my favorite heroine category. I especially loved it when she first meets Gavin. I thought the exchange between them two was hilarious.

For example, Sorcha is at the club getting turned on by all he kinky fuckery that is going on around her. Then this guy walks up (Gavin) and is blocking her view. Since the filter on her mouth is broken, she immediately gets into a verbal back and forth with Gavin.

"Can I help you?" I don't take kindly to having my space invaded without my permission, let alone my lady boner being blocked.

"That is not the proper way to speak to a Dom, girl."
"I wasn't aware that I was speaking with one"

There is WAY more to that scene and its fantastic as it continues, but I don't want to give it all away. You'll just have to read it for yourself.

On to the sex. Sorcha and Gavin's first sex scene... just... wow! Make you want to throw the book down and find someone or something to hump. HOT DAMN!

"Fuck inner goddess, he's yanked my inner slut out, lavishing her beyond her wildest dreams and she'll be damned if she goes back into the closet quietly."

description

I didn't rate the heat level very high on this because although there are some tasty and detailed sex scenes, I felt like some of them were just glossed over. They are written really well and I think the amount of sex scenes fit the size of the book. It was also a little refreshing to actually focus on the story a little bit rather than just the sex.

Gotta love some drama. Sorcha has trust issues and Gavin is still getting used to the idea of being in a relationship, so some things just... slip his mind sometimes.

description

The constant back and forth between these two is the best. Them trying to making the other jealous, the ghost pepper, the word wars, battle of wits and so much more.

I did get confused by the alternate names everyone uses at work. Sometimes it was hard to follow. I also felt that closer to the end the constant back and forth between Sorcha and Gavin was a little too much. For example, I'm waiting for their relationship to go to the next level and maybe get into some BDSM stuff, but then a trust issue takes place and then we have to start all over again. I get it, and if I had a trust issue, it would set me back a step too. Maybe the trust issues could have all been at once to move the story along better? I don't know and don't have a good answer for that. The spots in between the issues is what seemed to drag for me. Some of the things that were happening in the "in between" sections didn't mean anything to me and didn't seem to add to the story. I could be wrong, but those were the feelings that I had while reading some of those parts. I also think the phone number issue went on a little longer than it should have. I get that both of these people weren't looking for a commitment, but at some point when you were talking about sleeping together more than once, wouldn't you at least get a number?

Overall, Scrupulous was a good read and I'm looking forward to reading the next book. I thought the writing style and the flow of the story were really good and kept my interest. This book has humor, great sex, a kickass heroine, entertaining supporting characters and a good story to back it all up. I would recommend this to people who love romance with a little bit of kick and who are interested in learning more about the BDSM lifestyle.

"Rule number one - never question me. Rule number two - your body is my playground and recess has begun."

Well, where do I start? Having been well and truly captured by Kristina's paranormal reads, I honestly didn't know what to expect, but this book was sheer brilliance. From the strong 21st independent and sexually liberated woman, who uses men for her sexual gratification but expects and needs no more, we learn of her true dedication to her decisions, hard work and sheer determination, to get what she wants...
---------
Excerpt:
Not every little girl grows up and wants to be a lawyer, doctor, corporate executive etc. And those who do are allowed to change their mind once they get a taste for said professions. I am right where I should be.
---------

It's no surprise to her friends or family that she has no desire to settle down. Between her work, her home, and her artwork, she has little or no time or desire for a man in her life. Despite the protests of others. She truly is a strong, set minded woman who knows exactly what she wants, or doesn't want as the case may be ;)
---------
Excerpt:
I have no shame when it comes to my sexual needs, and it is something I will never apologise for.....Well I'm just a woman who hasn't met the right one to commit to, nor do I have any current desire to do so.
---------

But on a night to a BDSM club with friends she would meet Gavin. The man who would make her world shift. The mysterious, self absorbed and arrogant, mysterious man who just reeks his pure control and power...
----------
Excerpt:
It's no secret around these parts that I am not only lusted but feared by most...However, life choices to run with the wrong crowds, no matter how long ago that was, has hardened me to an irreparable degree.
----------

His reputation for control in all things sexual as well as personally is much more than FSOG...but Sorcha gives this man a run for his money. Unlike the other women who fall at his feet, she would deny him, push him, doubt him and make him feel things he never had before...
---------
Excerpt:
Gavin Durham is nothing but heart break and trouble wrapped up in one delicious package with DRAMA stamped all over it.
---------

Despite the warnings of his past, from friends for being "Sought after for his discipline" and being pure Dominance, Sorcha would as usual decide her own fate. But could the woman who knew exactly what she wanted let one man change her ways?

But with the points of view being from both Sorcha and Gavin, we get to know and accept them both throughout the book. From his complete demand of Dom play both at work and home, to losing all control when he learns of his true feelings for her, and how he would give anything to be with this woman. Even if it meant "vanilla".
----------
Excerpt:
" I cannot remember the last time I gave in and made love the way we did, unrestrained, unrefined, raw. My intent, at first, was simply sex but our undeniable chemistry overtook...it made me abandon myself, you syphoned my power and left me freed. For the first time, believe I may of had a taste of what submissive's feel, a rush in the release."
---------

But as their sexual relationship grows and feelings too, they both question what they can and can't allow. We see Sorcha doing something she never has before and that's compromise. Lower her guard. Do something for him, because she wants to learn of his lifestyle, just like he has learnt of hers....
---------
Excerpt:
There is no role exchange or edgy play pushing me further than I am ready to go, there is only us, stripped down and open wide for one another on a level neither of us is comfortable with. As the sun rises in the sky, I do something else I have never done, fall asleep in someone's arms, for the entire morning.
----------

But would she be able to relinquish all power to him? Given how incredibly strong a character she is, I truly doubted she could, but their relationship was already so strong and meeting markers and timeframes she had never exceeded with another man, I felt sure they would come to an agreement....
---------
Excerpt:
He is fast becoming friends with my crazy lot making it more impossible to come up with reasons to keep the walks up between us. And it intensified the feeling of rightness I had with him by my side. Gavin said he could see himself falling in love with me, something that is quite mutual.
---------

But the true power of Kristina's writing was still ever apparent as with her other books, and captured not only my fictional world, but my heart. The true love story, despite fears, pressures, sexually...she really has done it again and flipped my book perspective on erotic writing...
---------
Excerpt:
Our play is not ultimately about the sex, it's about the journey into mind blowing ecstasy and providing someone with the wings to fly there, void of typical mental constraints that weigh us down.
---------

She admits herself that she needs to be challenged and excited, all in order to progress, but with Gavin's poor communication skills and lack of relationship understanding, he really can come across as a self absorbed man. He does let Sorcha down, and he hurts her every which way but physically...but would they be able to make their relationship work? Given how long it took for her to accept their relationship and exclusivity...the let down on a momentous occasion for her would leave her reeling.
Would he able to fix this?
---------
Excerpt:
I believed in you, in us. Words can't describe my state of disappointment...I do hope you find what you are looking for, find your happiness. It breaks my heart to know that you don't respect or care enough to allow me to be a part of it...
--------

A mind blowingly HOT read that will capture you both emotionally as well as physically. Just astounding. I can't wait for the next book already!

Honestly, this book was alright. And therein lies the problem...for me there just wasn't enough of anything.
The story didn't blow me way. The characters, although likeable weren't really loveable.
The plot plodded, no real explosions or surprises. And the happily ever after...although it's a breath of fresh air not to be left with a cliff hanger this just felt a bit like a wet rocket, a fizzle rather the bang I'd expect from 2 such explosive characters.
The thing that bugged me the most though was the over analytical explanations of the Ds relationship. It feels to me like the author wanted to make sure that the reader and any cynics out there knew that she has done some research. It feels too much like a manual in some places.
I did really enjoy the multi cultural facet to this book, although being a Brit myself I did cringe at the misuse and somewhat lackadaisical use of a few terms.
I kind of feel a bit bad only giving it a three, I think with a bit more oomph this would make a good book, unfortunately for me it just lacks that certain something.

Sorcha, is a woman who has one main focus, her love of photography. Her relationships (or lack of) are fleeting and not serious. That is until a dare changes all that. She enters a world that grips and fascinates her. Here she meets gavin, a like-minded soul who like Sorcha has no time for anything that interferes with his job, which is his life. After one night of HAWT! HAWT! HAWT! sex Sorcha wants more, more hot sex and more Gavin.
Gavin wants more too, but their stubborn natures keep each other at arms length. Gavin FYI is as hot as foooook.
I loved Sorcha, I loved her wacky points system, I love that she never apologizes for who she is, Gavin may be the Master but Sorcha is a force to be reckoned with. I loved the detail into the BDSM, which I know almost nothing about. Ms Canady has done her research and it shows! I felt for the characters and their struggles. Cannot wait for Jade's story. I've a feeling it will be a bit heartbreaking!

Scrupulous (Affliction of Falling, #1)
by Kristina Canady

3.5 stars

What happens when two strong willed people collide? Sorcha and Gavin happen. Sorcha is one in a million. She has a point system and if the current man of the night she is eyeing from her spot at the bar lands within a certain set of points then he gets “in.” Sorcha as no desire for relationships and never beds the same man twice. Those things lead to complications she doesn’t need in her life. She doesn’t apologize for who she is. She is picky and she isn’t bedding a man nightly. Its been a month since her last romp; she is picky and knows what she wants. Call it what you want; she is who she is.

Gavin is taken back by the sassy “girl” that is speaking to him; a Master in the tone that she does. No no has ever denied him or much less walked away from him. He doesn’t know why he went after her but pulling her into the room at the club just started a force in motion that they both are thrown into neither understands. One night .. that was it .. that’s all it took to send them both into a complete shit storm.

Gavin and Sorcha are great characters and Sorcha is definitely the one in charge although Gavin is the Master. This girl is hilarious. I loved it. Gavin, I wanted to punch him but he is hot so yeah you know you tolerate it to a point. HA! Ms. Candy gives a very detailed and informative script of the BDSM lifestyle in this book. If you didn’t have a clue, you will after reading this. At times it was too detailed for me as in if you are familiar with the lifestyle then it seems to drudge on at a few points but not to the point that its boring. Its just a little overkill if you know what is what in that choice of style.
The story is good and the struggles from moving past their current lifestyles into this new adventure are somewhat compelling. It does make you think how those that find love in the BDSM lifestyle would handle these “issues.”
This was my first read by Kristina Canady and I will say that I will click on her other releases when they come out. As this is labeled Book #1 I would assume we will see more of these characters as she stated her next book out will focus on the character we meet in release; Jade. I fear her story is going to be heartbreaking from what we know of her at this point. Great job!

Sorcha is a free spirit. She lives and enjoys life on her own terms. Before she met Gavin, she had everything under control.

A lot of convincing by her friends puts her in a BDSM club for a night of intrigue. Samuel, her best friend warned her to not talk, just watch. He knew her snarky comments would get her in trouble.

Gavin is 100% alpha male and a top Dom. He spotted Sorcha as she sipped her drink at the bar, then began a conversation, not expecting the exchange to take the course it did. Their meeting that night was explosive - beginning with the smart-assed banter at the bar and finishing with the super-hot sex in a private room.

Neither is a fan of relationships. Sorcha has a rule of not repeating a night of passion with anyone. Gavin doesn't have time for relationships, but there's something about Sorcha that he can't just walk away from.

Sorcha is pegged as a submissive by both Gavin and her friend/fellow bartender, Samuel, who also is a Dom. Samuel is floored that her hook-up in the club was none other than top-Dom, Gavin.

Gavin makes a surprise visit to the bar Sorcha is tending the next night. She later finds out they both work at the same nightclub, him as head of security and her as a bartender.

She fights the sub label as much as she fights the Dom label, her desire for Gavin, and being tied down by her perception of a relationship.

The chemistry between Sorcha and Gavin is undeniable and off the charts. He convinces her to give in to their lust a second time - no strings attached - and it couldn't be hotter.

If you like a super hot alpha and a woman who's not afraid to live her life, this book is for you.

You'll have to one-click this smoking hot book to find out if they stubbornly push each other away or give in to their obvious attraction for each other. Either decision will be met with resistance by the other. The walls won't come down without a fight.

To say that there is anything submissive about Sorcha is laughable. She's living her life on her terms, regardless of what anyone else thinks. Gavin is about as alpha as they come. Dominant to the core, he can hardly wait to show Sorcha her inner sub.

SCRUPULOUS is the first book in the Affliction of Falling series by Kristina Canady. I enjoyed the story, and could appreciate the back and forth between Gavin and Sorcha as they peeled away each others' layers. Neither one has ever been interested in more than a good time, running from the idea of commitment. When the two of them meet, they are shocked to find that their connection goes beyond just the sexual. There is a bit of insta-love, although it is more of an enormous sexual connection that takes a bit to build into something more.

While I can appreciate a super-steamy scene, I wish that there had been more development of the relationship between the two. Kristina did get off to a good start, but, given that the book is solidly lengthy, a bit more depth would have made it a better read for me.

One of the highlights of this book is the humorous and colorful cast of supporting characters. They are a ton of fun, and really bring some levity to the back and forth between Sorcha and Gavin. Kristina nailed it with their personalities, and they really did add to the read. 3.75 stars for this wicked, yet ultimately romantic story. Jade, who made brief appearances in this book, is next up in the series, and I look forward to reading her story, and seeing her take on Sorcha and Gavin.

Independent reviewer for Archaeolibrarian I Dig Good Books.
5/5 (Exceptional)
*I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for a fair and honest review.*

This book was phenomenal! It was stunning, lovely, full of angst, and attitude. It was perfect!
This is a BDSM book but I would say that it’s on the calmer side of that spectrum, which for me, was perfect. Now, not knowing anything about that area of one’s life, to me, the book was incredibly knowledgeable. It sure seems like the author did some great research before writing this book, which is always appreciated as a reader.
The male lead character, Gavin, is the Dom and boy was he. He was bossy and pushy and it was sexy! I would say he was kind of broody as well. One incredible thing about him is how his character unfolds throughout the story. The way that he expanded his character was intriguing and more of a reason to fall in love with him.
The female lead, Sorcha, is sassy, feisty, and a brat! Oh boy is she sassy! You kind of have to have a sassy character to pair with a bossy and pushy character. The pair create so many actual laugh out loud moments you won’t want to miss this read. She has some crazy ideals on love, relationships, and life but they fit her perfectly. She is capable of making your heart feel all mushy though so don’t judge her just yet!
These characters will keep you intrigued and not let you put the book down. The story will leave you wanting to know more. The writing might leave you with more of an open mind on the subject matter. This is an all-around great story that deserves to be read by many. I don’t think it is a question as to whether you will enjoy it but rather when will you read it and enjoy it?

3.5 Stars!!!

I was given this book in turn for an honest review!!!

One passionate night was all it took to change the path in which Sorcha and Gavin’s lives were following. One has no need for a relationship; the other has never considered love an option. With an undeniable chemistry; how long can they deny the inevitable?

The chemistry and desire between Sorcha and Gavin is HOTTER than HOT! You can feel yourself melting into the undeniably off the charts passionate sex. I loved both Sorcha and Gavin’s characters; they each have a great sense of humour and are very open minded. Kristina Canady gives a good and informative representation of the BDSM lifestyle; at times I did feel this information was a little drawn out; the reason I may have felt this is because I myself already have a good knowledge and understanding of BDSM; so to those who have little understanding of the lifestyle it could be of great benefit to truly understand BDSM and appreciate the relationship in which Sorcha and Gavin embark on. Their story without a doubt is captivating; the struggles in which they both fight internally are life changing; you can feel each and every emotion they are battling with. Had the story been fast paced from the beginning and had been a little less on the informative side I would have happily given this book 5 stars. I look forward to reading more from the Affliction of Falling series and from Kristina Canady.

If you love BDSM romances with chemistry you will absolutely love Scrupulous by Kristina Canady.

***THIS BOOK WAS GIVEN TO ME IN EXCHANGE FOR AN HONEST REVIEW***
***Contains graphic sex, dubious consent, BDSM elements, and language. Not for young readers***
***Cassandra Delorie #NerdGirlLola’s Review***

I am going to be completely honest. When I first started reading the book I was taken aback by one of the scenes. It didn’t set well with me and I had a hard time continuing the book. Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad kept reading because the book is great but I did have to set it down and come back to it.

With the little speed bump aside the book is excellent. I think the story is well written and super hot. Sorcha is a woman who knows what she wants from a man, wham bam thank you ma’am, and that’s it, until she meets Gavin. He turns her whole world upside down and makes her want things she didn’t even know she wanted or needed. This story is filled with drama, laughs, and some serious steam.

Overall this is an outstanding book. I would recommend it to anyone over the age of 18.

When I heard that Kristina Canady had a new book out, I got excited.
I fell in love with her paranormal series and didn't know what to expect.
This book was about a group of friends, Dom/sub relationships, and a couple that didn't know how to be a couple.
Sorcha is a woman who has rules and a point system.
Sorcha doesn't do relationships.
Best friend Samuel is a Dom and talks Sorcha into going to a club.
She has a perception of what being a sub is all about and wants nothing to do with the lifestyle.
Gavin is intrigued by her and her smart mouth.
Their first meeting is earth shattering.
Gavin works at the same place Sorcha does and she didn't even know it until he made his presence known to her.
Gavin is a Dom but Sorcha fights him on it.
They decide to try at a relationship and he breaks down the wall of being a Dom to be with her.

This couple is not without their challenges and drama.
This book taught you all about the Dom/sub relationship but also showed the attitude that some people have towards it.
I can't wait to read the second book.

Im a huge Fan of Kristina's Lunar Eclipse series so as soon as I knew she had a new series coming out I knew I had to read it. I was not disappointed!! Sorcha is a sassy smart mouthed bartender/ photographer who's character is very strong and a bit stubborn. I loved her one liners and spunk so much, never knew what was going to come out of her mouth! Gavin is a sexy Dom who lets face it is HOT as hell. They are instantly attracted to each other it was lust at first site i guess you could say that developed into much much more! The connection between the two is undeniable even though they try to fight it a bit. There are parts that are emotional and intense and it all leads up to a great ending I loved the story and cannot wait for book two. Hopefully we will get little sneak peeks at how things are going for Sorcha and Gavin.

Where do I begin with this book. I loved it, it was hot and heady, and very well written. As an Irish woman, I particularly loved the interaction between Irish Sorcha and British Gavin, there is an air of authenticity about it. The dynamic between other D/s relationships did start to get a little overplayed. Been there done that, and so many of them aren't as formal as the book has them, but I also know that there are plenty that are, so I can't really fault Ms Canady on that one! The relationship between Sorcha and Gavin is so true to life, two people who shouldn't traditionally fit together, yet the dynamic between them is etched out so well with confrontations and compromises that it works beautifully throughout the storyline. It's the first thing that I've read by Kristina, and I have to admit, it's definitely not going to be the last! A top class read from a great author!

Kristina Canady won me over with her Lunar Eclipse Series, so when she released Scrupulous, I knew I had to pick it up, and once again, Canady did not disappoint! Sorcha and Gavin both love the night life and are committed to their work, but when it comes to their sex lives, they both have very different tastes. When Sorcha’s smart mouth draws Gavin in, as a Dom, he quickly realizes that Sorcha is nothing like the submissives that he is used to being with. Sorcha doesn’t have a submissive bone in her body, at first. The two of them come together and then clash. Their differences bring them together and ignite an intense and electrifying relationship that leaves them both entwined and fighting for love in new terrain. I can’t wait to read what Canady brings next!

This is the first book by Kristina Canady I have had the pleasure of reading.

I was pleased to find the BDSM story was not over the top. It explained the lifestyle, the pros and cons, in a manner that left you intrigued not bored.

This book follows the stories of Sorcha and Gavin through their exploration of not just a relationship but a D/s relationship and all the angst that entails.

Sorcha is a commitment phobe, yet is promiscuous is the best way. Gavin on the other hand is a commitment phobe who loves a good debauch relationship with his subs.

This story made me laugh, scream, want to inflict harm and warm and fuzzy inside.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK TO PEOPLE OVER 18, WHO LOVE A GREAT BDSM STORY WITH A GREAT STORYLINE!

This was a really good story about Gavin and Sorcha. The two were very set in their ways when we first meet them. But as the story unfolds we see them grow and evolve together. I loved that Gavin accepted and loved Sorcha for who she was from the very beginning. She didn't have to change for them to fall in love, but as they both did a little changing he just fell for her more. Gavin on the other hand was a little stuck in his ways on some things and I don't know if I could have been as forgiving as Sorcha. But all the same it was clear that he loved her. I look forward to reading more of this series and more from this author.

This was pretty good. The beginning took a bit to get me interested. Once I got about halfway into the book it caught my attention more. I'm not a fan of the characters and their personalities, but it was a good storyline. I'm very interested to hear Jade's story.

***I was givin an ARC copy of this book for an honest opinion***

I liked it! Some parts dragged for me but overall I liked it. Sorcha and Gavin both had some major pains to grow through with trying to be in a committed & exclusive relationship but they finally got through it. I loved how sassy and strong Sorcha was and it was great to see that these two lost souls who were so alone even among friends and family got their very own HEA!!

An entertaining, steamy read full of wonderful characters. Sorcha was such a strong, independent heroine and was perfectly matched with sexy and dominant Gavin. I can't wait to get started on Valorous!

Loved It

Nothing like two very strong willed characters to make for a great story. Would have liked their story to develop a little more but looking forward to the next book!
