Emily Felding is a 17 year old senior at Coralstone high school. She is an average student with good friends, amazing lacrosse skills, and an overall happy life. Then her narcolepsy starts preventing her from doing the things she loves and causes her life to spiral downhill. The only person who even vaguely understands what she's going through is her friend Russ Vagran, a fellow student in her grade whom she meets in a sleep study. Russ has severe insomnia and a troubled home life, which causes her to be extremely introverted with a paranoid sense of self-reliance. As the two struggle together through their respective disorders, vivid dreams and hallucinations start to mix with reality and their lives plummet into chaos and confusion.
