Pie for Chuck

Rate this book
When tempted by his favorite dessert, Pat Schories's lovable Chuck recruits his friends to help him sneak a taste.

Big Chuck is a woodchuck with a taste for pie. He daydreams about warm, flaky pastries and their fruity filling. When he spots a freshly baked blueberry pie cooling on the windowsill, he must have it. Chuck can't reach high enough, so he recruits his friends to help. Maybe Raccoon or Rabbit can get the pie? It takes some impressive—and athletic—teamwork for Chuck and his friends to reach the ledge, but their reward is so sweet!

A companion to PANTS FOR CHUCK: An I Like to Read® Book.

For little ones or early readers. The animals can't reach the pie individually, so they team up. With good art.

There's no telling how much pie Chuck the Woodchuck could eat--if he could just reach the delicious dessert. But as this "I Like to Read" book shows, he simply can't reach that pie that is cooling so temptingly on the window sill. As his other animal friends rally around him and try to help, they all fail until they work together. The watercolor illustrations will bring smiles to the lips of children as they watch carefully as those mice on the top of the animal pyramid reach out for the pie dish, and then run to hide after it tips. This picture book is perfect for sharing with beginning readers or right before bedtime or it can provide a wonderful vehicle for repeated reading and practicing fluency.

Chuck the woodchuck is back in another easy reader. He wants pie. The other animals do, too. However, the pie on the windowsill is just out of reach. Working together the animals finally get what they want. This is a very easy book designed for the beginning reader. The warm, friendly illustrations aptly suit the text, and the story expands on the endpages. Kindergarten teachers might appreciate this book when discussing problem-solving.

Very simple and a quick reading book with not a lot of text. While reading this for my storytime I added a lot more sentences and words to make it longer and more engaging. Illustrations are great and overall I really enjoyed the story.

Animals want pie in a window but can't reach it, eventually reach it by working together. Ok book, but I do have a hard time finding pi day books and this is a decent one for that.

The I Like to Read books are perfect for beginning readers. Pie for Chuck has a central theme of working together. Beginning readers will love finding the animals in the illustrations inside the front/back covers. The details in the illustrations are astonishing. This book is GRL C and is a story that students can retell. An incredible book for a PreK-K classroom library.

This book is both cute and humorous as well as appropriate for the early beginning reader. Vocabulary is limited, repetitive, and supported by large, clear illustrations. The familiar animals are friendly toward each other and sweetly portrayed as young and mischievous. Large print and soft colors enhance the presentation. Lastly, a happy ending is always a delight.

Not only is this a great book for a very emerging reader, but it also makes a fun storytime book for toddlers.

It's rare to find a cute, humorous, well written super early reader that both child and adult enjoy. So much fun to read my not quite four year old hardly realized he was deciphering the words! We will be looking for more of these!
